WHAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH JOEL OSTEEN?

Phillip Wagner
A couple of years ago Joel Osteen was preparing to have a “Night of Hope” at Dodger Stadium. Since the Dodgers are in our home city, Los Angeles, I wanted to support the effort. I mentioned to our congregation about the upcoming crusade and helping out so we could be a part of reaching thousands of people who would make decisions to follow Christ.
A few days later someone said to me,
“We’re supporting Joel Osteen? He is pretty controversial you know.”
I was surprised.
I thought to myself, “Joel Osteen, controversial? How could that be? He preaches the most clear and simple gospel message a person could hear.”
“We’re supporting Joel Osteen? He is pretty controversial you know.”
I was surprised.
I thought to myself, “Joel Osteen, controversial? How could that be? He preaches the most clear and simple gospel message a person could hear.”
I had not been keeping up with what people and other leaders were saying on the Internet.
One local pastor said to me later, “I hear you are supporting the Joel Osteen Crusade.”
I said, “Yes I am. He reaches thousands of people for Jesus Christ, he’s in our city, I want to be a part of it.”
The pastor responded, “I’m not going to, I can’t go for all that positive gospel stuff.”
I don’t even know what that means!??!
Are we supposed to be preaching the negative gospel?
What is the “positive” gospel?
Our sins are forgiven? God loves us – just like we are? God has something special for each of us to do?
Just sounds like the ‘regular-amazing-outstanding-full of mercy- gospel’ to me! You know… ‘Amazing Grace’ …and all that.
In the last year I’ve discovered there are many outspoken Christians and leaders who don’t seem to like Joel Osteen.
Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion – even if it is ill informed.
The disappointing thing to me is that Christian leaders feel the liberty to publically attack those whom they don’t really understand or know. There are always such attacks and slanderous public accusations against the most well known of American pastors – Joel Osteen, Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, Bishop TD Jakes and others. Leaders are encouraging other Christians to think it’s appropriate – even spiritual maturity – to disrespect or doubt the authenticity of genuine preachers and to publically express that opinion.
Frankly, it’s embarrassing.
As a Christian, I’m discouraged by the behavior of leaders who criticize, attack or diminish the significance of other Christian ministers.
This critical behavior and attitude is why many people do not want to be a part of Christianity or go to church because they feel that when they go to church they will be criticized the way our leaders do to each other.
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. Galatians 5:14-15 NIV
I believe the main thing leaders should be “called out for” is the arrogance and the divisive example they promote by publically dismissing the relevance of another person’s ministry in order to exalt their own.
Have leaders who take the liberty to bring unfair assessments of Joel Osteen spoken to him or one of his pastors in private about their concerns? I may be wrong – but I don’t think they have.
I love the insights brought to us by Pastor Phil Munsey in an article, “The Joel Osteen Most People Don’t Know” in which he points out that over one million people have received Christ through Joel’s “Night of Hope” events and that Joel pastors the largest church in our nation’s history – 45,000 in one building.
Look at this situation that the disciples brought to Jesus and notice His response.
“Master,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”
“Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.”
…Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem …but the people there did not welcome him… When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them? But Jesus turned and rebuked them and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of
 “– NKJV) Luke 9:49-55 NIV
So, what’s really the problem with Joel Osteen?
Critics say,
“He’s shallow.” “He’s a phony.” “He’s a liar.”
“He’s not really a pastor.”  “He presents an easy, feel-good gospel.”

This reminds me of being in the 8th grade.
I know Joel Osteen.
I consider him a friend.
I’m not a ‘Joel Osteen fan’ – I’m a friend.
I know him to be a genuine man, a humble man and know that he has a desire to lead people to become followers of Jesus Christ. He believes the same fundamental truths about the Bible and Christianity that main stream Christianity teaches and preaches from the pulpits of America.
The problem is not with Joel Osteen –the problem is in the hearts of the ‘Christian critics’ (sounds like an oxymoron) and ‘the haters’ –the newest gift in the body of ChristThey speak without thinking.
Joel is focused on reaching lost and unchurched people. He does it really well.
In interviews with Larry King, Piers Morgan and others, they always try to get him into controversial or divisive topics, (homosexuality, politics, Mormonism, who’s going to hell, etc.) and Joel avoids answering those questions with much detail. His focus is reaching those who have been alienated and are not being reached for Christ with the message of God’s grace. He tries to stay on point.
Why is this so hard to understand?
Joel is criticized for everything.
What he says. What he does not say. (This is my favorite one.) What he ‘really’ believes. What he is thinking. How he should do things. How he could be better at what he does.
While looking at YouTube I saw a video posted by a well-known pastor that shows this pastor addressing an audience (not sure if it was his congregation or a leadership meeting) but it was public. He took time on his platform to show a video clip of a few minutes of Osteen preaching – and then proceeded to tear apart what he said and what he did not say.
This pastor is a good leader, a quality speaker and influential.
He took the platform God has given him to preach the gospel, to put Joel down with an arrogant, condescending grin on his face. Why is that I wonder?
It is easy for people to take a ‘portion’ of anyone’s sermon and criticize what the speaker ‘did not say.’ That doesn’t even make sense.
A Christian blogger criticized the title of Joel’s recent book ‘Every Day a Friday’ – by saying that Friday is not the most important day for Christians, Sunday is because that’s when Jesus rose from the dead.”
Are you kidding me?? Really? If this does not reveal shallow thinking, critical intention and bring into question the rest of his comments – at the very least the title of his blog, “The Insufferable Joel Osteen” should be a clue!
Joel’s book is not a study on theology or Christian history. It is just a book to encourage the millions of discouraged in our country.
Is that wrong?
It would not take long for one of these self-appointed ‘judges of all ministries’ to listen to one of my messages and find flaws.
I leave things out.
I mis-speak.
I don’t say what I was going to say and sometimes say what I should not.
But that does not make me a liar, a hypocrite, a fake or a false prophet.  It just makes me human; doing the best I can to do my part in reaching our city for Jesus Christ.
In an interview on Fox News, they asked Joel questions about his thoughts on Mitt Romney and Mormonism.
Joel said, “Mitt Romney says that Jesus Christ is his Savior and that’s what I believe, I’m not the one to judge the other details.”
Joel was saying if a person (even a Mormon) believes that Jesus Christ is their savior – it does not seem right to doubt them.
He also said, “I can’t say that I believe everything I’ve heard about (Mormonism).” Osteen’s critics do not quote this last part of his statement.
Have you ever been on National TV and been asked questions designed to put you in an awkward position and to answer questions off the point of what your message is? Have you ever been on TV?
Is this difficult to understand? If you are an “Osteen-hater” then everything is wrong. Many Mormons have come to Jesus Christ through his ministry. People don’t receive Jesus if your sermon title is “Mormons and gays or (…insert your favorite issue here…) are going to hell and here’s why!!”
Our church, Oasis Church LA, has a ‘shallow end of the pool’ – it’s an entry point. We don’t teach everything we believe every time we speak. There is a ‘deep end of the pool’ as well – it’s discipleship. Much more is taught to people in those areas of our church ministry.
Joel does not teach classes on theology, the differences of Mormonism and Christianity or a thorough presentation of the foundational beliefs of Christianity. He’s a pastor with an evangelism gift.
Pastors at Joel Osteen’s church, Lakewood Church, disciple people, teach doctrinal truths of the Bible and train people for ministry. They teach people truth from error.
This reminds me of how much criticism Billy Graham took from evangelical leaders who criticized him and questioned his faith and integrity because of how he conducted his evangelistic efforts. Now most people hold him in high regard and an example to be followed.
We pray for the lost in America and then when God is using someone to reach the people that other ministers have not been able to reach – we tear them down. God forgive us.
Have we considered that reality that TV hosts like Larry King, want to interview Joel and not the leaders who attack him, because Joel communicates the grace that others pastors can’t seem to discover?
So what’s the problem – really?
Is it jealousy? Is it arrogance and self-righteousness?
I’m not sure.
I do know that Joel reaches people other preachers do not reach. I see that news reporters who won’t interview other pastors and leaders interview Joel. He sells books about hope and faith to the thousands who will not buy the critics books. Hmmm?
I recently read a blog by the vice president of editorial and acquisitions for Thomas Nelson, who wrote “Osteen parades himself around as a minister of the gospel.” Nice.
He also posted a photo of Joel with a ‘Joker face’ (as in Batman) ‘photo-shopped’ on his face. This is a clear sign of deep biblical insight.
This horribly embarrassing blog was tweeted about by The Chairman and CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers on a couple of occasions, obviously lending his support and endorsement to these self indulgent and reckless assessments.
I was shocked, saddened, disappointed and discouraged by the attitudes of these Christian influencers.  But this is just not right and should not be overlooked because of his stature and position.
Do these publishers know everything their authors believe? Everything? Do they know when their authors have ‘misspoken’ or not articulated something correctly or made a mistake?
Does Thomas Nelson write blogs to publically ridicule and humiliate their authors who have their own flaws? The comments that these people make are not intellectually honest nor are they spiritually appropriate.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
31Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you
.
Ephesians 4:29-31 NIV
Arrogance is hard to see in the mirror.
I don’t know that those who have spoken from arrogance would apologize or recognize their error – but I’m hoping that you, the reader, will be more aware of what is appropriate and Christ-like.
Christians – Please!! Don’t follow this example and criticize publically those ministers whose methods you don’t agree with or understand.
Leaders – this has got to stop. Please, Please – it’s NOT your job to judge everyone publically.
Let’s encourage each other, let’s pray for one another and teach those you influence to have more grace.
It is difficult enough to be a minister because of the challenges we face – the spiritual warfare we encounter! We don’t need our own Christian brothers needlessly attacking.
We need to preach about what we are FOR not what we are AGAINST.

Kendrick Bros Taking Their Films Beyond Sherwood (Filmmakers of "Facing the Giants," "Courageous," and "Fireproof")

Kendrick Brothers Stephen & Alex

Kendrick Bros Taking Their Films Beyond Sherwood

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick developed a love for making movies when they were just kids growing up in Georgia.

"When we were growing up we didn't have a television for a while, but our parents would take us to see Disney films," Stephen Kendrick told CBN News. "And so we got excited about wanting to get into filmmaking one day."

The brothers said they were doing stop and go animation and flip books with their Hardy Boy books while at home.

"We got a little stop and go animation 8 mm camera -- I think Alex was in fourth grade at the time -- and then a video camera in our teens when they came out in the 80s," Stephen said. "So it's been part of our lives since the beginning."

The brothers were raised by Christian parents. Their dad was a preacher and their mom was a teacher.

That is why the Kendrick brothers are especially passionate about producing films with a gospel message.

Small Beginnings

Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, gave Alex and Stephen the opportunity to put their film practice to use by helping with the church's media ministry.

Today they serve as associate pastors at the church.

"We love our church family at Sherwood," Stephen said. "They've been very supportive of us from the beginning."

Their first film called "Flywheel" tells the story of a dishonest used car salesman who comes to grips with his need for God.

It was produced on a bare-bones budget and ran in a local theater in the Kendricks' hometown for six weeks.

The filmmakers went on to write and produce three other films, which Alex directed.

"Facing the Giants," "Courageous," and "Fireproof" have grossed nearly $80 million at the box office, with a combined budget of less than $4 million.

"Fireproof," a movie about restoring marriage, starring actor Kirk Cameron, became the highest grossing independent film of 2008.

The movie's accompanying devotional, Love Dare, has sold more than 3.5 million copies.

Confounding Hollywood

The success of these little-known Christian filmmakers has left Hollywood scratching its head. The Kendricks say prayer is the key to all they have been able to accomplish.

"Every one of our movies is a whole string of miracles where the Lord would step up and provide exactly what we needed," Stephen explained. "The cast, the crew, the locations the protection, the story line, the truths to communicate so when we look up on the scene, when we look up on the screen, and we see the Body of Christ."

They admit that it makes no difference what level of talent you develop and that ultimately true power comes from God.

"No amount of skill can manufacture the favor of God," Alex said.

"We need the Lord's favor to say I want to bless this film where the Lord says 'I'm going to do things you cannot do in your own power.'"

CBN News was invited on the set of the latest Kendrick film in Charlotte, North Carolina. The movie, known only as "Kendrick Movie 5," encourages Christians around the globe to pray.

"This time it was on the power of prayer and to remind believers that we must not only pray but sometimes do battle in prayer," Alex explained.

The film features best-selling author, Bible teacher and daughter of Pastor Tony Evans, Priscilla Shirer.

Shirer, who makes her big screen debut in the film, told CBN News what it was like working on the set with the sibling filmmakers.

"We have just had a great time -- getting the job done but just being light hearted and fun in the process and to see their patience," she said.

She bragged that, as director, Alex demonstrated extraordinary patience.

"He's shown us what leadership is," she said.

Leaving Sherwood

"Kendrick Movie 5" is the first project the brothers have produced under the newly formed Kendrick Brothers Films.

The brothers said they both knew it was time to leave Sherwood, the place where their filmmaking career took off.

"The Lord told us to expand your filmmaking beyond Sherwood's walls and take what you've learned under the leadership of Michael Catt and under the support of the church and try to impact the body of Christ, networking with young Christian filmmakers from across the nation so that they're learning to how to make God-honoring films," Stephen told CBN News.

A recent survey by Lifeway Research found that 56 percent of Americans want more movies with Christian values.

To feed that growing demand, major studios are taking a leap of faith with biblical epics such as "Noah" and the release of "Exodus" in December and the remake of "Ben-Hur" scheduled for early 2016.

Four faith-based films have already earned more than $50 million each in ticket sales, according to Boxofficemojo.com. Those films -- "Noah," "Heaven is for Real," "Son of God," and "God's Not Dead" -- are among the top 20 grossing films of 2014.

"We're excited to be among them doing that. And so when you hear movies that proclaim God's truth, that proclaim the gospel and do it without compromise, without watering it down, we're cheering them on," Alex said.

Obedient to the Call

The Kendricks said their pastor once told them they're not the first God called to make Christian movies, but they could very well be the ones to respond with obedience to the call.

"We want to be among those God uses and so we wanted to take that step of faith, even when we didn't know what we were doing," Alex said. "And so we've learned so much along the way."

"Kendrick Movie 5" is set to hit theaters next fall.

In the meantime, Alex and Stephen say their focus is not box office numbers but the number of people they can touch with their movies with a message.

"What we try to do with every film that we make is aim it at the Church but include the gospel so those who see the movie but don't have a relationship with Christ will hopefully be drawn to Him," Stephen said.

"We've had thousands of people come to Him as a result of the films," he added. "So it's been very exciting to hear those stories of changed lives."

4 Sexual Sins Every Christian Should Avoid - CHARISMA NEWS

4 Sexual Sins Every Christian Should Avoid

There are at least four primary sexual sins of which the Word of God speaks of. (Mart1n/freeimages.com)

Excessive sexual sin and nakedness is one of the marks of our Western culture and much of the world today. Everything is sensual. Everything must be sexy. We live in a sex-crazed world, and nakedness jumps out at us from everywhere. It is becoming more and more difficult for men and women to keep themselves in a state of moral purity.
Sexual sin and neglecting the laws of purity in the body of Christ is one of the elements that can potentially bring weakness, sickness, and even premature death to many in the Church. It is one forgotten aspect of not discerning the Lord's body (1 Cor. 11:29-31).
Those last statements sound so primitive in today's contemporary church. There is a lack of ministry from pastors in this area because of the fear of forthcoming accusations of being unloving, judgmental, legalistic, and ministering guilt and condemnation. Frankly, we've lost our way in this regard. Correction, rebuke and reproof are clearly missing from our counsel in these new crooked days of false comfort and unscriptural mercy.
In days of old it was rather common for correction to be made not only using the Scriptures but through the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. For instance, it was observed by one old timer that in praying for the sick, individuals who had been unfaithful in their marriage and had not repented, but who nevertheless sought healing, had been rebuked sternly by the Spirit of God. Back then they understood that only deep repentance and cleansing through the precious Blood of Christ could the gravity of such a crime be pardoned.
Today, as I said, we are considered condemning and judgmental if we minister in such a manner. Yet it is common for many to get in a healing line and seek deliverance, or submit prayer requests while living in gross immorality without any earnest desire for genuine repentance. Those who practice sexual sin, or any other sin for that matter, and profess Christ, are partaking of the body of the Lord unworthily; and in doing so they are receiving a curse rather than a blessing.
"For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep" (1 Cor. 11:29-31).
I realize that sexual temptations are great, no one is exempt from them, and none should boast of their self-righteousness. I'm also aware that in seeking to turn someone from the error of their ways we must do so in gentleness and humility (Gal. 6:1; 2 Tim. 2:25). But if there is to be victory in this area, it must begin with a reverent understanding and a scriptural estimation of the defiling and degrading nature of sexual sin and its terrible dangers. Before people obey God, they must be thoroughly awakened. Only then will they overcome counteracting forces.
Carefully read these words of one of America's greatest evangelists, Charles G. Finney:
"Worldly desires, appetites, and feelings prevent true Christianity—the human will is, in a sense, enslaved by fleshly and worldly desires. It is therefore necessary for God to awaken people to a sense of guilt and danger and thus produce an opposite excitement or feeling and desire. This counter-feeling breaks the power of worldly desire and leaves the will free to obey God."
That ideology, my friends, is clearly absent from the mainstream of contemporary Christianity, yet it is so sorely needed.
As in modern-day America, sexual sin and nakedness were celebrated in the city of Corinth too and was infiltrating into the church there. Thus Paul had to remind the Corinthian saints that their bodies were now the temples of God and not their own. Their bodies, as ours, are now members of Christ, so a sin against our bodies is a sin against Christ.
"Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Cor. 6:15, 19-20).
As far back as the Mosaic books we find some interesting references to sexual immorality and nakedness.
  • The first recorded human curse was over nakedness (Gen 9:20-23).
  • Nearly two entire chapters along with many other references were a code of ethics on nakedness and sexual immorality (See Lev. 18 and 20).
  • Exposed genitalia or nakedness were common in Canaanite demonic worship. Instructions and prohibitions to Moses were so Israel's altars would not be like the Canaanites' (Ex. 28:41-43; 20:26).
  • When Moses returned from the mountain, Aaron had lost control of the people as they worshiped a golden calf, "unrestrained" (Ex. 32:25), as the New King James says it. The Old King James says "naked," and the Living Bible says "committing adultery." And all this happened shortly after a move of God.
One of the keys to overcoming sexual sin lies in the meditation of the Word of God concerning it. This will nurture the fear of the Lord in you. For example, in Gal. 5:19-21 the works of the flesh are divided into four basic categories 1) sexual sins, 2) sins connected with pagan religion and the occult, 3) sins of the temper, and 4) sins of drunkenness. It is interesting that sexual sin is listed first, not only here, but also in several other scriptural references in the New Testament.
  • Romans 1:24, 6:19 – Uncleanness is singled out.
  • 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 – Sexual sins listed first.
  • Galatians 5:19-21 – Sexual sins listed first.
  • Ephesians 4:19 – Lewdness and uncleanness singled out.
  • Ephesians 5:3 – Fornication and uncleanness singled out; let it not once be named among you.
  • Colossians 3:5 – Fornication and uncleanness listed first.
  • 1 Thessalonians 4:3 – Sexual immorality singled out in our walk of sanctification.
  • 1 Peter 4:3 – Lewdness listed first from our past life.
  • There are at least four primary sexual sins the Word of God speaks of: adultery, fornication, uncleanness and lewdness.
  • Here are the definitions of these four sexual sins:
Adultery: Unlawful sexual intercourse involving at least one married person. Adultery is incompatible with the harmonious laws of family life in God's kingdom, and is under God's judgment since it violates God's original purpose.
Fornication: Pornography, illicit sexual intercourse including prostitution, whoredom, incest, licentiousness (lack of moral restraint), and habitual immorality (would include sexual fantasies that lead to masturbation).
Uncleanness: Often refers to homosexuality and lesbianism
Lewdness: unashamed indecency, unbridled lust, unrestrained depravity (a disposition or settled tendency to evil, the innate corruption of unregenerate man), the person with this characteristic has an insolent defiance of public opinion, sinning in broad daylight with arrogance and contempt. Again, this often refers to sexual sin.
Here's where many people err in their understanding of their sexuality. Notice the following verses.
"Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power" (1 Cor. 6:13-14).
Paul is correcting the dangerous misconception among the Corinthians who believed, "as the stomach is designed for food, the genitals are created for sexual experience." This mind-set is not only common among unregenerate human beings but also among Christians who justify sexual immorality. Paul shows how this analogy is false because your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost and belongs to Christ.
Eating food is a secondary and temporal arrangement, but sexuality reaches into the eternal and metaphysical depths of one's being. An essential identity exists between the present physical body and the future glorified body (v 14). Sexual intercourse is more than a biological experience; it involves a communion of life. Since Jesus is one with the born-again believer's spirit, it is unthinkable to involve Him with immorality; thus the strong admonition not to let the sin of fornication and all uncleanness "even be named among you" (Eph. 5:3; emphasis added).
Sexuality is a uniquely profound aspect of the personality involving one's entire being. Sexual immorality has far-reaching effects, with great spiritual significance and social implications (v18). Such immorality is not only a sin against the body but against the Holy Spirit, who dwells in the body. It is one of the ways we are to discern the Lord's body, which when consistently neglected, as I stated earlier, often brings weakness, sickness, and even premature death.
Regardless of how satisfying and fulfilling sex is in its rightful place within the marriage, it is still a temporal arrangement and not a part of our eternal existence. And yet by it we procreate and give birth to eternal spirits. Sexual immorality messes with the power of procreation with someone to whom you are not married. The sexual drive is not sinful, but it is hurtful if not kept in its proper place. Scripture forbids sexual immorality in order to protect you.
Politicians, businesses, schools and our public institutions are not qualified to handle the subject of sexual immorality and deviate sex problems we have in our culture. They are a part of the problem, not the solution. Sadly though, the church has fallen so short of addressing this problem from a strong scriptural perspective. Some churches no longer even believe what the Bible says about sexual immorality is pertinent. One high-ranking church official said that the church is going to have to come to an understanding of homosexuality according to the changing culture. That is one of the biggest problems in the church today. Many of us are conforming to the standards of the culture around us.
Another well-known charismatic television preacher told his audience that homosexuality is not sin but brokenness. "What do you think David and Jonathan were doing? What do you think Ruth and Naomi were doing?" implying that they were involved in homosexual and lesbian relationships. I had to shake my head at that one. And yet this preacher is considered one of the greatest preachers in America with a very large following. It turns out that one of his own children is a homosexual. Although this is a very crushing trial for any godly parent to have to face, one cannot be loyal to his family at the expense of betraying God's holy Word.
When influential preachers say erroneous things like that, it opens the door for deception and compromise among masses of people who respect these preachers. This will lead to a flood of evil, immorality, and all kinds of perversion among the hearers of such.
It is sad to see the dilution of sound doctrine in much of the church today. It is grievous to the Holy Spirit to see such cowardice and compromise among preachers who have either departed from the true faith or who are afraid to teach sound doctrine in the area of sexual morality. As a result, our children and young people are getting educated by the reprobate minds of the world.
Let the preachers of righteousness speak up with strength and conviction, for the time is here when many are not enduring sound doctrine, but with itching ears are heaping up teachers unto themselves.

Israel Focuses on ISIS, US Vows to Destroy Jihadist Horde

Israel Focuses on ISIS, US Vows to Destroy Jihadist Horde

Thursday, September 04, 2014 |  Ryan Jones  ISRAEL TODAY
Israel’s focus on the threat of the Islamic State (formerly ISIS) has increased significantly in recent days in the wake of the revelation that the latest American journalist beheaded by the jihadists was Jewish and an Israeli citizen.
“ISIS’ growing power and its proximity to Israel could pose a strategic threat to Israel,” opposition leader Isaac Herzog (Labor) told reporters a day after the Islamic State released a video showing the beheading of American-Israeli journalist Steven Sotloff.
Herzog and many other Israeli officials are concerned not only by the fact that the Islamic State is inching closer to its borders both in Syria and by threatening Jordan, but also by burgeoning homegrown support for the Islamists in neighboring states and among the Palestinians.
Islamic State flags have been spotted in Judea, Samaria, Gaza and even Jerusalem. On Wednesday, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon signed an order officially outlawing the Islamic State, a move that would make it a crime to raise money or otherwise express support for the jihadist movement.
The grizzly murder of Sotloff just weeks after the Islamic State beheaded captured American reporter James Foley also finally spurred the Obama Administration to action.
“We will not be intimidated,” US President Barack Obama stated after experts confirmed the Sotloff beheading video as authentic. “Those who make the mistake of harming Americans will learn that we will not forget and that our reach is long and that justice will be served.”
Obama was reportedly working with British Prime Minister David Cameron to establish an international coalition with the intent to “degrade and destroy” the Islamic State.
US Vice President Joe Biden warned the hordes of Islamic State fighters that “the American people are so much stronger, so much more resolved than any enemy can fully understand. We don’t forget. …They should know we will follow them to the gates of hell until they are brought to justice, because hell is where they will reside.”
While Israelis are happy to see Western powers finally taking the threat of the Islamic State seriously, there is frustration that Palestinian groups like Hamas receive alternative treatment.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been trying to drive home the point that Hamas and the Islamic State are kindred movements. In fact, Hamas has also been behind the recent executions of American-Israeli citizens, like 16-year-old Naftali Frenkel.
But, because Hamas is tolerated by the US-backed Palestinian Authority, and because the Palestinian public voted the terror group into power, Washington has seen fit to place it on somewhat different footing than fellow jihadists in Iraq and Syria.

The Rear View Mirror

Many of you feel stagnant in your walk with the Lord, and the reason is that you are reliving your past. Some of you are having a difficult time letting go of old memories. It is imperative to release the memories of the mistakes and misfortunes as well as the memories of the good times that you had, so that you could move forward into everything that Jesus has for you. Your past or current situation does not determine your future destination.

Forget the Past

The Lord says, "Forget what lies behind.  Don't hold on to past memories that will burden you down and bring bitterness to your soul. Don't see yourself as the person who you were in the past, and do not entertain thoughts of regret. You are no longer the man or woman that you once were. Don't reminisce on the good times and the way that you think your life should have been. This will hinder you from My plans. Reconstruct your way of thinking into the image of how I see you.

Allow Me to take the good times as well as bad times of your past, and create a masterpiece from a life that has been totally surrendered and submitted to Me. Accept your past as the teacher that it is. Your most significant opportunities will be found in the things that you have experienced. Do not rehearse those things that went wrong, but release them to Me and allow Me to bring restoration."

"Release those who have hurt you. Unforgiveness will hinder My work in your life and will bring sorrow, guilt, shame and regret. Release those who have lied to you and lied about you. Those haunting memories are preventing you from moving forward as you are holding on to worthless thoughts of situations which no longer exist.

As you release your past, you will no longer be tormented with fear. As you align yourself with My plan, those debilitating memories will diminish, and I will give you beauty for ashes and the oil of joy for mourning. I will restore the years of pain and sorrow."

"Learn from the mistakes of your past. Release every situation that no longer exists. Don't try to resurrect those things that are dead. Old ways of thinking must be buried."

You have a New nature

"Your old nature is no longer in existence. See yourself the way that I see you. Envision yourself as the person that I have created you to be. Nothing that you did in your past will disqualify you from the future that I have for you. Don't be afraid of change but move forward into the victory that I have for you. Don't deprive yourself from entering into the blessings that I have for you by looking back.

Remember where I have brought you from, but walk in the newness that I am bringing you in to. My plans for you are bigger than what you now perceive, and as you look to Me, you will begin to see the promises and the provisions that I have for you says the Lord."

Isaiah 43: 18-19 Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

2 Corinthians 5: 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
