Hamas Admits Most Killed at Gaza Border Were Terrorists - Israel Today

Hamas Admits Most Killed at Gaza Border Were Terrorists

Thursday, May 17, 2018 |  Israel Today Staff
A Hamas official admitted in an interview with Arab media this week that the vast majority of those killed during mass riots at the Gaza borders were members of the terror group.
According to Hamas official Salah Bardawil, 50 of the 62 claimed fatalities were Hamas terrorists.
In other words, the international community is bellyaching and demanding committees of inquiry because Israel put down 50 terrorists. Does this make any sense?
In truth, Israel should be applauded not only for so effectively combating a recognized terrorist organization, but for managing to keep civilian casualties to such a bare minimum during such a massive violent demonstration.
No other nation, certainly none in this region, would have bothered to take such care to avoid civilian casualties when its borders were being assaulted.

Death Penalty for Terrorists Sparks Fierce Debate in Israel - Israel Today

Death Penalty for Terrorists Sparks Fierce Debate in Israel

Thursday, January 04, 2018 |  Israel Today Staff
Israel's Knesset on Wednesday voted 52-49 in favor of a bill that would enable both military and state courts to sentence convicted terrorists to death.
Technically, Israeli courts can already sentence convicts to death, but only via the unanimous decision of multiple judges. Such a sentence has not been handed down since Israel executed Nazi Holocaust frontman Adolf Eichmann in 1962.
The new bill would enable courts to hand down the death penalty with just a simple majority decision.
The bill must still pass several more readings before it becomes law.
The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) is urging members of Knesset to vote against the law, warning that use of the death penalty could encourage a new wave of kidnappings of Israeli and foreign Jews by Palestinian terrorists.
Israel's security chiefs fear that convicting terrorists to death would spark concerted efforts to abduct Jews either here or abroad to force the convicted terrorist's release before his execution.
Similar warnings from the Shin Bet have resulted in past death penalty proposals being defeated in the Knesset.
Another point of concern is that the same death penalty law could be used against Jewish terrorists.
In fact, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a member of the party pushing the death penalty bill (Yisrael Beiteinu) said it most certainly would apply in the rare case of Jewish terrorism.
Trying to trap Netanyahu, who is supporting the bill, firebrand Arab MK Ahmad Tibi asked if the death penalty would be doled out to those like the Jewish extremist who firebombed a Palestinian home in 2015, killing a baby and his parents.
Netanyahu responded: "Yes."
Yisrael Beiteinu MK Robert Ilatov was similarly asked if the Jewish extremist who brutally murdered Palestinian teenager Mohammed Abu Khdeir in 2014 deserved the death penalty.
Ilatov stated unequivocally: "A terrorist is a terrorist."

US One Step Closer to Defunding Palestinian Authority Over 'Pay to Slay'

WASHINGTON -- The Taylor Force Act came one step closer to becoming law after passing through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with bipartisan support.
The bill calls for an end to U.S. funding of the Palestinian Authority until it stops financially rewarding people for being terrorists. The United States currently gives almost $400 million a year to help the foreign government.
"If you murder an Israeli or someone else, you get $3,500 a month," said Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn.
Corker says in interviews conducted with Palestinian prisoners, the captives admitted there was an incentive to commit more egregious crimes in order to receive more money. He says their goal was to do something worthy of at least a five-year sentence to get the payment increased.
The bill is named in honor of American business school student and combat veteran Taylor Force, who was brutally stabbed to death in March 2016 while on a school trip to Israel. The 21-year-old Palestinian man who killed him was then praised and financially rewarded by his government.
"Taylor was an American hero who was brutally murdered at the hands of terrorists. Yet instead of condemning this horrific attack, and so many others like it, the Palestinian Authority rewards terrorists," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who introduced the bill. "These rewards for terrorist attacks are inconsistent with American values. They are inconsistent with decency. And they are certainly inconsistent with peace."
"Simply put, you can't be a partner in peace when you are paying people to commit acts of terror. It is long past time to let the Palestinian Authority know that these practices are wholly unacceptable," Graham said in a statement.
The measure passed the committee with bipartisan support, and both senators feel confident it will soon become law.
"This legislation will force the Palestinian Authority to make a choice: Either face the consequences of stoking violence or end this detestable practice immediately," said Corker. "I thank Sen. Graham for his important role in this effort and look forward to this bill becoming law."
