Why Are the Elders Following the Youth? - Michael Brown

Why Are the Elders Following the Youth?

In the Line of Fire, by Michael Brown
I believe in today's young generation and I am deeply committed to this young generation, but I do not believe that the older generation should be following the younger generation. To the contrary, young people should be following their godly elders.
There is a reason that 25-year-olds cannot run for president.
There is a reason that 14-year-olds are not given driver's licenses.
There is a reason that the Scriptures call on the youth to submit to the elders rather than the elders to submit to the youth (see, for example, Lev. 19:32; 1 Pet. 5:1-6).
Of course, that doesn't mean that young people can't be wise, nor does it mean that young people don't have important perspectives on life, perspectives that their elders often miss.
That's why my ear is always open to young people, especially when it seems that there is a disconnect between the generations.
Wise elders not only lecture, they also listen.
A pastor recently commented to me that when my generation hears the word "homosexuality," they think of an issue; when the younger generation hears the word, they think of a person.
In this case, both perspectives are important, and if we don't take into consideration both the societal issues and the people involved, we will not have God's heart and mind in full.
At the same time, it is a terrible mistake to make our decisions or to make public policy based on how the younger generations feel.
Instead, it is our job to set godly examples for them, to learn to communicate effectively to them, and to do our best to shape their thinking and guide their conduct based on what is right and good.
It is true that the younger generation has more influence today than ever, and it is true that they are often the shakers and movers of our society. But that doesn't mean their perspectives are right or mature, nor does it mean that, rather than setting the path for them to follow, we should start following them. Whoever came up with such an idea?
To be clear, I'm talking as a leader in the church, where the Scriptures set the standards for us and where children are called to honor their parents and youth are called to honor their elders. I'm not expecting your average non-believer to show the older generation that respect (although, before the 1960s, your average young person was taught to show that respect). Yet even in the church, such respect is often lacking because of the over-exaltation of youth culture today.
To give you a case in point, a younger colleague of mine is good friends with a well-connected leader who hosts major conferences for young adults, and this colleague urged him to have a nationally known speaker address the conference. (The speaker was in his late 50s.) His friend replied, "That wouldn't work, because the speaker is too old. They'll hear it better from their peers."
Do we realize how wrong this is?
A good youth leader will inculcate a spirit of respect and honor for the older generation as well as for authority figures in general, to the point that they would consider it a special privilege to learn from an older man or woman of God rather than thinking, "What's that old geezer got to teach me?"
That kind of attitude is totally out of line, not to mention terribly destructive.
To repeat: I believe in this younger generation and I'm deeply committed to this younger generation, and I hold young people in high esteem.
Since 1983 (when I was pretty young myself), I've poured into college-age young people on an almost weekly basis and, to be honest, I'm with them so much and I feel so youthful in heart, mind and body that I'm always surprised when I look in the mirror and see how old I look. (Seriously.)
I'm in touch with young people day and night through social media, and I have plenty of open doors to minister to them, so in no way do I feel shut out or cut off. And I absolutely believe that young people can do mighty exploits for God.
One of my spiritual sons, Daniel Kolenda, who now heads up Christ for All Nations (which was founded by Reinhard Bonnke), led millions of people to faith in Jesus before he turned 30, and he is one of many being used by God at a young age. (Some are even younger.)
In that same spirit, Paul instructed Timothy to let no one despise his youth (perhaps he was in his 30s too) but to set an example for the body (see 1 Tim. 4:12).
The problem is the mentality of our culture, which has turned things upside down in a destructive and harmful way.
When our daughters were in their mid-teens (they're now in their mid-30s, each with two kids), they told my wife, Nancy, and I that we were too strict and that they didn't like our household rules. I told them, "I want you to make a list of everything we're doing wrong as parents and then to write out what the rules should be, and I want you to look at the list once you have your own kids."
We laugh about it today (their kids range from 14 to 8), since their list included things like, "No curfews and no restrictions."
That's why parents raise children rather than children raising parents, and that's why a few years ago, our older daughter said to Nancy, "I'm so glad you raised me the way you did."
Last week, I spoke to 2,000 teens and young adults at a conference in Singapore, and I asked them, "If it was up to you, would you have no mandatory school, classes and tests?" They responded with an enthusiastic "Yes!"
But of course. They're young people.
The fact is that the same generation of Christian young people that is much more "tolerant" about things like homosexuality is also dreadfully illiterate biblically, also having lower moral standards in general. (I fault the parents and pastors for this more than the kids.)
Why should we be following their lead?
To be sure, we should try to see the world through their eyes and be sensitive to the valid perspectives they have, especially when it comes to issues of social justice. But having done that, we should now help them integrate those perspectives into a biblical worldview.
When I was a hippie teenager, one of our mottos (spoken or unspoken) was, "Don't trust anyone over 30." You can see where that got us, and you can see how unbiblical that is. (For some excellent reflections on this, with important insights from the Scriptures, see "On the Value of Being Older" by cultural commentator Bill Muehlenberg.)
The fact is, our perspectives change over the years (in other words, it is not inevitable that the younger generation will hold to the same value system or worldview when it becomes the older generation), and a society that follows the counsel of the youth and scorns the wisdom of the elders is a society headed towards self-destruction (see 1 Kin. 12).
Thankfully, it's not too late to turn the tide in America and beyond, but that means that we of the older generation need to get our acts together and, with wisdom, maturity, sensitivity and compassion, live our lives worthy of the respect and honor of the youth, people who are called by God to be world-changers in the best sense of the word if we can help them find their way.

Will the High Court Protect Traditional Marriage?

Will the High Court Protect Traditional Marriage?

The Supreme Court has heard arguments for and against gay marriage, and a decision is expected by the end of June.

The High Court will decide if the 14th Amendment can require all states to allow same sex marriage. It will also decide if the amendment can require states to recognize same-sex marriages from other states.

"Only three states have actually voted for same same-sex marriage," Mike McManus, head of Marriage Savers (LINK), a ministry to strengthen the institution of marriage in America, said.

"Eight other legislatures have voted for it, but we have it in 37 states because the courts have imposed it in 26 additional states," he continued. "It seems to me it should be up to each state to decide whether they want to allow same-sex marriage."

McManus said he believes the Supreme Court will protect traditional marriage. He also writes a regular column on marriage and family issues.

What is the justices' current outlook on gay marriage and state's rights? McManus answers this question and more. Click play to watch.

Israel desires peace, both for itself and its neighbors. Sadly, since her rebirth 67 years ago, Israel has been forced to repeatedly defend herself against an incessant campaign to harm and destroy the Jewish state.
That being the case, the Israel Defense Forces must remain on the cutting edge, and must constantly be ready to exert force far beyond this nation's meager size and resources.
The video below is a powerful compilation of Israel's forces training for the challenges ahead:

The Supreme Court and the Mark of the Beast - Rick Joyner

Prophetic Bulletin by Rick Joyner

The Supreme Court and the Mark of the Beast

Printer-friendly version
MorningStar Prophetic Bulletin #93 - April 30, 2015
In Revelation 13 it is prophesied that at the end of the age there will be a false prophet that arises to prepare for and give power to one called “the beast.” This “beast” deceives the nations and requires all to take a mark, 666. Without this mark no one can “buy, sell, or trade.” This “mark of the beast” has been a dominant subject in eschatology (the study of biblical prophecies of the end of the age) since the first century, and many things have been called this that turned out not to be so. However, we know it will come, and it may be upon us.
Few events in history have so remarkably fit the biblical scenario of this mark as the potential U.S. Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage. As bizarre as this may sound, this is an uncanny parallel to the biblical prophecy. Even if this is not the actual mark of the beast, it is at least a precursor, a “dress rehearsal” that sets up the world for this ultimate test.

Understanding “The Beast”
First, taking the mark of the beast is not the sin, but rather worshipping the beast. The mark is just the evidence of what one is doing. So to understand the mark, we must first understand the beast.
This “beast” has been presumed by many Bible scholars to be an individual, such as the “antichrist” figure. He is also called the “man of sin,” or “abomination of desolation” prophesied by Daniel. Others have seen it as a system, a world power such as a world bureaucracy. Some have believed it to be the spirit that dominates the world at the end of the age. Some have concluded that it could come in all of these forms. There may be some merit to all of these assumptions, but the principles given in Scripture for identifying the nature of the beast are clear enough for any seeker of truth to discern it, regardless of the form in which it comes.
This beast “comes up out of the earth,” which is a term for “earthly mindedness.” Such is the root of what is popularly referred to as “secular humanism.” This is the philosophy, perspective, or “worldview” promoting the exaltation of man, his wisdom and abilities, above God. This philosophy presumes that man does not need God and should not consider Him as a factor in human affairs even if He does exist.
Because man was created at the end of the sixth day, the number six is often symbolic of man in Scripture. For this reason, many have presumed that the number 666, or three sixes, was man’s attempt to displace the Trinity, and could fit with this belief.
The “abomination of desolation” that was prophesied by Daniel, Jesus, and the first century apostles could have been translated “the abomination that desolates.” Because homosexuality is referred to as an abomination in Scripture, and its impact on Western culture is so quickly and profoundly desolating the moral fabric of Western civilization, it is to be expected that many will start to consider this “the abomination that desolates.”
Who could have dreamed just two decades ago that we would have major cities celebrating “Days of Decadence” with all manner of perversions being performed and flaunted openly in our streets? Who would have thought that such a moral and religious nation could fall so quickly to the ultimate national depravity spoken of in Isaiah 5—calling what God calls “good,” “evil,” and what God calls “evil,” “good,” while the dishonorable are honored and the honorable are dishonored? Is that not precisely what has happened to America in just the last generation?
The meltdown of morality in our military could be happening even faster. Just a few years ago, the U.S. military was such a bastion of morality and integrity that adultery was considered grounds for dismissal because one’s vows had been broken. “Don’t ask, don’t tell” was the handwriting on the wall that a devastating change was coming. But who could have foreseen the pace of the desolation of our military since homosexuality was openly allowed in the ranks? It moved quickly from everyone having to accept it, to everyone having to celebrate it if you expected any further promotions, to now being forced out if you do not celebrate it.
Christians are now openly discriminated against, if not persecuted, in the U.S. military. Not only are some of the best and brightest leaving the military, they are no longer choosing it as a possible career.
The same is taking place throughout government services on all levels, as well as corporations, education, and the media, as was once the case for a long time in arts and entertainment. Now, with a single Supreme Court decision it could be that Christians, Muslims, and Jews that honor their books as the word of God will not be able to “buy, sell, or trade” in America without the constant threat of losing your business, or your position and livelihood, because of an offended homosexual.
Even if this is not “the mark of the beast,” it will be for those who are now losing what they, in some cases, have given their lives to build, because they would not compromise their religious convictions in order to buy, sell, or trade. If the Supreme Court decision falls the way it is expected to, we can be sure that very soon every Christian in America will have to make a similar choice between obeying the Word of God or this beast.

The Great Awakening
The good news is that few things have begun to wake up the sleeping giant of the church like this issue now before the U.S. Supreme Court. A growing number of the most influential leaders across the spectrum of Christianity are now calling for civil disobedience if the Supreme Court rules that same-sex marriage is a constitutional right to be enforced throughout America.
Regardless of what caveats the Supreme Court may add to their decision to feign protection of our freedom of religion, an ultimate firewall that protects all of our freedoms will have been breached. Six thousand years of recorded history where marriage was always between a man and woman will have been overturned. Already there are applications for threesomes to be married, and polygamy at any level will have to be accepted. We also have applications filed for some to “marry” their animals. Voices within the gay agenda have declared that they see nothing wrong with pedophilia. One bad decision for our Supreme Court and America’s slide into depravity will then have been greased, and we will go down fast, unless…

Saving America
America’s slide to this point of moral depravity seems to have happened quickly, but it didn’t. It is the result of a very intentional, systematic erosion of our values that has been going on for almost a century. Only recently has the momentum of this evil strategy gained speed as we enter into the last phase of what the perpetrators boasted would destroy America from within.
This strategy has been very public on the part of several major groups, who will end up fighting each other over the spoils if they succeed. But for now, we must focus on what will stop and then reverse this momentum in order to restore the foundations America was built upon.
President Reagan was at least partially right when he said, “Government is not the answer, it is the problem.” Our salvation will not come from the White House, or any other state house. It can only come from the church house. If the church in America does not rise up to become the salt and light she is called to be, there is no remedy, and an ever-deepening darkness will continue to spread over our land with increasing speed and devastation. The encouragement is that the biggest sleeping giant of all is starting to wake up.
When I was in Washington recently, a congressman said to me that there would be more courage in Washington if they saw more courage in the church. He said they do not feel that the church has their back. The church in America must ultimately accept the blame for what has happened in America, but it can also be the solution. Following are the four major crises in the church that are also the basis of the major crises of our times, as identified at a recent roundtable of leaders of national and international stature:
We have a crisis of courage.
This is the failure of Christian leaders to address the crucial issues of our times with clarity and boldness.
We have a crisis of a lack of moral excellence in the church.
This has robbed the church of its moral authority.
We have a crisis of Christian disengagement from our civic responsibilities.
This has robbed the world of the salt and light capable of preventing its corruption and dominance by evil.
We have a crisis of a lack of the church’s preparation for the inevitable challenges of our times.
This will cost loss of lives, and it will cost many the greatest honor we can receive for our lives—hearing,“Well done, good and faithful servant”(see Matthew 25:21 NIV).
The church is called to be the salt and light in this world, and this meltdown has happened on our watch. We must take responsibility, and we must take action. If we will take responsibility, acknowledge our failures, which is repentance, and become what we are called to be, this great failure can become one of our biggest victories, and our nation can be saved. If the church does not do this, we do not have much time left.
When the Iron Curtain fell, the church was not ready. The cults and crooks were ready, and they filled the vacuum. The week following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, churches were flooded with their biggest crowds in history. The church was not ready, did not have the answers, and another one of the greatest opportunities in recent times was lost. The next strike will be our third, and we cannot fail this greatest of all responsibilities and opportunities. If we do, it will very likely be our last chance.

What Do We Do?

First:
We must decide now that we are going to obey God and that we will refuse to obey any mandate from any power that is in conflict with God’s Word. We must be prepared to pay the price for obeying God, which is likely to be significant and can affect the rest of our lives. Of course, the price of not obeying Him will be much higher and eternal, so we need to determine now who we will serve.
For such a choice, we need to be clear about what God’s Word says on these ultimate issues. As the Lord said through Isaiah the prophet, if we do not speak according to His Word then we do not have the light. Each of us must choose whether we believe His Word or not. Then we must choose if we will obey it or not. We can expect these choices to both prune and purify the church. What remains of the church will likely be much smaller, but it will be far more powerful.
Accepting that The Bible is God’s Word to us is a major issue for all who claim to be Christians. Many have accepted the constant attacks on the validity of the written Word by the enemies of the faith. The very first lie of Satan was to get Eve to doubt what God had clearly said, and this has been his basic tactic since causing the fall of multitudes. Make no mistake about it—this is the point at which we will fall or stand.
Let us consider that if Jesus, who was the Word, would take His stand on “It is written!” how much more must we? Now is the time for all Christians to decide this issue. If we are going to follow Christ, we must believe His Word, fortify ourselves in His Word, and obey it.
Many Christians have bought Satan’s lie that would cause them to doubt what God has clearly said. Doing so makes it even easier for them to buy into the teachings that blur what God has made clear on just about any issue. Those who have done this will soon fall away. This will be a major factor separating the true from the false.
The next major factor that will likely cause many to fall away will be the fear of man, or caring more about what people think than what God thinks. The first group cast into the lake of fire at the end of the Book of Revelation is the cowardly. We can expect many who know the Word of God to fall into this category, because they fear men more than God. In Scripture that is an idolatry also called “an abomination,” as is the one who turns their ear from hearing the Word of God (see Proverbs 28:9).

Second:
We must strengthen our own foundations, especially those under specific attack. The most important of these is the family. This is the most basic and important of all units within a culture or nation. Family is under relentless attack now, not just the definition of it.
A happy, functioning family is one of the greatest lights. Being part of a happy, functioning family is one of the greatest experiences we can have in this life. Being in a dysfunctional family is at the root of our most devastating social problems.
We must also teach and esteem manhood and womanhood, with all of the dignity and nobility they are given by God in the Scriptures. After getting one to disbelieve that The Bible is the Word of God, the devil’s basic tactic is to blur the distinctions that God has made clear. If we are going to be lights in our time, we have to stand against the spirit of this age and esteem men who are men, and women who are women.

Third:
We must call what God calls “sin and wickedness,” sin and wickedness, and we must repent of it ourselves. God does not forgive excuses—He forgives sin that is repented of. We’re not repenting if we are making excuses, or blaming someone else for the way we are.
Homosexuality is called an “abomination” in Scripture. Abominations are weightier than other sins because they are so destructive that they bring desolation. Now let’s consider some other things that are also called “abominations” in Scripture:

lying
spreading strife
using unjust weights
devising evil plans
worshipping idols
a proud heart
the way of the wicked
the devious
acting unjustly
those who scoff (ridicule)
shedding innocent blood
wearing clothing of the opposite sex
those who justify the wicked while condemning the righteous
sacrifices made to God by those living in wickedness
those who choose (vote for?) those who are of “no account”
those who oppress the poor and needy, rob, or fail to keep their word

Now, who has never committed an abomination? If you claim you have not, you are likely guilty of the abomination of lying. So what do we do? We do not say everyone is okay because everyone is guilty, which is an ultimate folly that we are warned against. The Word of God is clear in places like Galatians 5 that such will not inherit the kingdom of God.
What we do is: We first get the log out of our own eye if we are guilty of, or are still practicing, any of these. Then we judge those who are trapped in sin for the purpose of their redemption, reconciliation to God, and their restoration from sin and its consequences.

Fourth:
This is not last because it is the least important, but because it is the most important. We must grow in love for God and one another. We are told, “Love never fails” (see I Corinthians 13:8), which could have been translated, “Love never quits.” Anyone will quit at some level except for those who are in love.
We must love God above all to love all as we should. “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing,” and this is the main thing we are called to do. This will be the main thing that determines if we will be successful human beings or not when we come to the great Judgment Day.
We are also commanded to love our enemies. The gay agenda has turned into the biggest enemy of Christianity in America at this time. Extreme elements within the agenda are resolved to drive Christians into “the closet,” just as they were forced to live for so long. Other enemies of Christianity are joining with them in seeking to drive Christ out of our culture. This is the definition of “antichrist.” Even so, we are told that our war is “not against flesh and blood” (see Ephesians 6:12), or people, but against the spiritual forces that have them in bondage.
We are also told that we, Christians, have been given divinely powerful weapons that can bring down every stronghold exalting itself against the knowledge of God (see II Corinthians 10:4). We will address this in a future Bulletin, but this is a battle we cannot lose if we follow “the Captain of the host,” or the Captain of God’s armies.
We must keep in mind that during the greatest times of darkness, the Lord raised up His greatest lights. Some of those greatest lights were those who came out of darkness, like Paul the Apostle. Paul was possibly the greatest enemy of the church for a time, and he was transformed into possibly the greatest friend of God and builder of the church.
Let us keep in mind that even those who, at this time, may be in the greatest opposition to God and His truth, if saved, can become some of the greatest champions of the faith. The transformation of the enemies of God into friends of God is the greatest victory of all. This will happen to many if the present followers of Christ will stand up as the champions of the faith we are called to be. We are here now for such a time as this, and it is now our turn.

Words of the Prophets: What is God Saying to America?

(© Istockphot/ZU_09)
Amid a growing consensus that America's future is in peril, Charisma asked several faith leaders with prophetic gifts what they believe God's message is for the church and the nation as it experiences an escalating series of "shakings." These four individuals—Cindy Jacobs, Paul McGuire, R. Loren Sandford and Hubert Synn—agree that America is facing turbulent times ahead. Simultaneously, though, they believe there is still a great deal of hope, and if the church truly repents and returns to God, that America could experience the greatest awakening in its history.
What Is God Saying to America?
By Cindy Jacobs
It doesn't take a prophet to know that our nation is at a significant crossroads.
With so many voices swirling around and the news full of its own forecasts and predictions, what is the Holy Spirit saying to His people above the fray and noise? Since 1999, a group of respected prophets called the Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders has met annually to ask this very question of the Lord.
For several years, the news was not good. Words from before 2008 were that, depending upon what happened in the next elections, America was on the brink of losing a measure of greatness in the world as a leader. Almost a year before the 2008 economic shaking, we knew that there would be "no more business as usual."
Then, before the 2012 elections, we heard some good news—that God was going to give us a chance to regain what was lost.
In the years since then, the prophetic words have spoken both warnings about more coming shakings and promises of the spiritual renewal God wants to bring to our nation.
We received warnings of potential terrorist attacks, which were realized with the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, as well as warnings about racial tensions escalating and cities burning from riots, which also proved accurate over the past year.
At the same time, the Holy Spirit revealed that we are on the verge of another Great Awakening and Jesus People movement. We are in a season of contrasts; in other words, the light will be very light and the dark very dark.
So what is God speaking right now about the future of the nation?
We know that more shakings are coming, and we have also heard that there are more terrorist "sleeper cells" spreading out across the nation. Economically, there are some turbulent times ahead, although they can be lessened through the prayers of the saints.
Women will determine the next election, and Asians will be the swing vote. The states will polarize on an even greater level, and some will threaten to break with the union if their state constitutions are violated.
Pastors will be increasingly pressured by out-of-control courts to preach only part of the Word; some will stand before the courts of the nation as a result. However, this will wake up the church to her finest days as she finds her voice in the governmental arena once again.
Threats from all types of radical extremist groups will be posed against Christian leaders, resulting in a shifting and sifting of hearts as some will compromise to avoid persecution.
Those who do not compromise, though, will find their churches aflame with the power of the Holy Spirit as the new "not ashamed" generation of millennials takes the field.
Colleges and universities will experience major moves of God. Even now, we are in the beginning stages of the next Great Awakening. Prayer is being mobilized on college campuses, and young revivalists are preaching across the land.
God does not reveal these things to cause us fear or discouragement; rather, He invites us to partner with Him as He fulfills His purpose for our nation. Let the warnings move you to pray, and let the promises move you to hope.
Will Fires of Revival Burn Again?
By Paul McGuire
As a teacher and author on Bible prophecy, the No. 1 question I get asked is: "Where is America in Bible prophecy?"
The general consensus from a significant number of teachers in Bible prophecy is that America is in a state of irreversible decline and may no longer exist in the near future as a separate and independent sovereign nation.
One of the primary arguments for that is that America is not named specifically by name in the prophetic Scriptures. In addition, America is in the greatest crisis it has ever been in.
The majority of believers in our nation fall into three basic categories. First, the largest percentage are ignorant of the depth and danger of the crisis. They are, as it has been said, in "la-la land." The second group of Christians believe America is in a free fall due to the long list of sins committed by the church and nation. The third group of believers are those who truly recognize the great peril we are in, but believe if a "remnant" of believers will "stand in the gap," engage in true intercessory prayer and cry out to God, that the Lord is willing to send to whatever degree He chooses, revival, mercy and a temporal restoration to our nation. I use the word temporal because at some point on the prophetic timeline the coming global economic, political and religious system that will be headed up the Antichrist and the False Prophet will emerge.
On July 4, 2012, I was praying and interceding for America with my wife in our home in Southern California when I experienced what can only be described as a supernatural vision from God that began immediately after I began to repent for my sins and repent for the sins of the church as an intercessor.
I want to be very precise about what I am about to share in terms of the use of my terminology. First, even though I was saved during the Jesus movement of the 1970s and took part in the charismatic renewal movement, I have what I would call "inspired imaginations or pictures from the Holy Spirit," but rarely if ever what I would technically classify as a vision.
Therefore, I do not use the term glibly. Secondly, even though I have experienced being "set on fire by the Holy Spirit," the burning fire of the Spirit that came upon me immediately after repenting was of an entirely different dimension than anything I had ever experienced before.
Immediately after repenting, my body and hands began to burn with a heat so intense that I could not understand why my flesh was not burning.
The next thing I knew I was looking down upon the North American continent from a satellite point of view and I saw the fires of a genuine revival break out in California. Then, as these fires spread, a supernatural and other-worldly golden glow began to move slowly from the West Coast to the East Coast.
I could see millions of people's faces being illuminated by this heavenly light and I heard the Lord say, "My people are rising in prayer." This divine light represented some kind of biblical revival and Great Awakening. The Lord spoke to my heart and said that it was not His will for America to be destroyed, but His righteous conditions must be met. The Lord impressed upon me that if the "remnant" truly repented and cried out that He would send revival.
However, the promise of revival was contingent on this act of obedience to the call for genuine repentance by at least some percentage of His church. The Lord spoke to my heart one day and said to me, "The cities of America will either burn with the fires of revival or the fires of race wars and destruction."
Can America Be Saved?
By R. Loren Sandford
Whether or not America can be saved rests squarely in the hands of the church.
God agreed to Abraham's plea to spare Sodom if just 10 righteous men could be found. Are we such a people? Righteousness implies a respect for the moral laws and principles articulated in God's Word.
As the influence of godless secular culture has invaded the church, however, we have seen a gradual erosion, not only of the morality of those who call themselves Christian, but of foundational historic theology. We need a massive move of repentance, beginning in the church, but repentance begins with a consciousness of sin, something increasingly missing, both in the surrounding culture and in the church.
Both the First and Second Great Awakenings in America began with repentance. Even as the masses fell into immorality, the nation shared an understanding of moral right and wrong and therefore knew what to return to when conviction came. Repentance made sense to them. Such a cultural agreement concerning moral right and wrong no longer exists.
A time is coming when increasing numbers of people will be crying out in pain as the lifestyles they've chosen inevitably fail. At such times people seek answers. Will the church then appear as a glowing beacon of light, a place of healing and restoration? Or as a dark wall of condemnation? Will we present a doorway to a better life? Or falsely affirm the sin that produced their misery to begin with—and all in the name of "grace"?
I know from experience that the closer one comes to the holiness, glory and goodness of God, the more clearly that which is unholy and unclean stands out. In that light, the Holy Spirit reveals sin for what it is. My job is to love; His is to convict, and I've seen it work time after time.
As the sinner draws nearer to the radiant goodness of God exhibited in and through His people, light exposes darkness.
When darkness is clearly revealed, conviction falls, lives change and people are healed. America can be saved as Christians lovingly radiate the glow of the goodness of the Father's heart.
Will the church as a whole step up to the plate in this crucial time?
Will we be that beacon of inviting light that draws the hurting to repentance and healing?
Will America be saved? The answer lies with us.
The Signs of Shaking Are Evident
By Hubert Synn
The history of America is a phenomenon. In less than 300 years since its inception, this young nation has accomplished what no other nation has been able to accomplish in a similar time frame: ascend to an industrial, economic and political world power; achieve reserve currency status; and be regarded as a universal symbol of prosperity.
America was founded as "one nation under God." God was morally and spiritually intertwined with our society, with evidence of sincere faith woven into the Constitution, Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem.
Scriptural mottos were displayed in government buildings and inscribed onto our currency. Sadly, our culture has steadily removed God as the anchor of this nation and the Bible as our standard for living. Christians are increasingly persecuted. The depth of moral and spiritual division and decline in this country grieves my spirit. Today, America is a country, but no longer one, indivisible nation under God.
As I wake up in the morning these days, I sense an uneasiness, the kind of uneasiness where you expect something bad to happen. The signs of shaking are evident in both national and global current events. When I spend time with the Lord, I am led to pray for our country like I have never done before. America is almost at the breaking point where it cannot halt the slide of what is going to come. As I have been praying for America, the Holy Spirit has shown me how the blessing of His hand over this nation enabled its rapid ascent to greatness, but the removal of His hand will result in a rapid decline into weakness. The Holy Spirit has told me the following:
The Lord wants us to know that as we continue along the path we are going, things are going to start to change rapidly. The successes we have enjoyed in so many things will start to turn the opposite way. The crops we rely on will not be as fruitful as they have been in the past. The change in the seasons will not be the same as it always has been as a gradual change. The changes will be abrupt. As my people continue to be persecuted and mocked there will be repercussions. His hand which has been on the land will be removed like it has never been before. The prosperity will be pulled back and the whole nation's outlook will change. For as He has been removed from our land He will remove His hand from holding America, and she will be on the same playing field as other nations. For the time she was a powerful leader, she will become a weaker nation and will have to rely on other nations for her needs.
I do, however, still have hope regarding the future of America. The way in which God supernaturally orchestrated my meeting with Rabbi Jonathan Cahn at an airport to bring forth the message of The Harbinger shows me He still cares for us. He wanted His warning to be heard loud and clear. Let's all pray for a spiritual awakening, accompanied by repentance and humility.
Pockets of true revival are breaking out across America. Want to know more about the next great move of God? Click here to see Jennifer LeClaire's new book, featuring Dutch Sheets, Reinhard Bonnke, Jonathan Cahn, Billy Graham and others.
