Netanyahu Finds a Way to Keep Deporting Illegal Immigrants - Israel Today

Netanyahu Finds a Way to Keep Deporting Illegal Immigrants

Wednesday, October 25, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
It's not only America and Europe that have illegal immigration problems.
Israel is a small state with limited resources, and it's primary mission is to provide safe haven to all Jews who wish to immigrate.
But Israel's stunning economic success means many from poorer African nations also want in on the action.
In recent years, tens of thousands of Africans have streamed across Israel's southern border. Some were genuine refugees fleeing life-threatening situations. But most were economic migrants whom a majority of Israelis see as a strategic threat to the Jewish state's continued success and even survival.
Israel has used a "carrot-and-stick" approach to handling the problem until now.
Illegal migrants who enter Israel without applying for and receiving
refugee status–in other words, economic migrants–are placed in detention centers and offered $3,500 to leave the country voluntarily.
The hope is that either the large one-time paycheck and/or the prospect of long months in detention will compel most to return home. And, indeed, some 15,000 such migrants have done so.
But some are more determined, refusing the cash and waiting out the detention. Israel's courts allow the government to keep the infiltrators in detention for a maximum of 12 months.
Forced deportation was off the table, until now.
Israel Hayom reports that during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent visit to UN Headquarters in New York, he took the opportunity to meet with many African leaders and sign new diplomatic agreements regarding migrants from their countries.
The agreements enable Netanyahu's government to circumvent a recent Supreme Court ruling and to forcibly deport illegal immigrants as a last resort.
Many antagonists, including the radical left in Israel, have used this issue to smear the Jewish state.
But it must be stressed that Israel does provide refugee status to African migrants who fled life-threatening situations, such as many from Sudan.
What Israel cannot and will not tolerate is illegal infiltration by those looking to leech off of its taxpayers. It simply doesn't have the resources to do so and continue to provide a prosperous safe haven for the Jewish people.

Is the Air Force Done With People of Faith? - TRAVIS WEBER /FRC CHARISMA NEWS

Is the Air Force Done With People of Faith?
TRAVIS WEBER /FRC  CHARISMA NEWS
Is it really possible that the Air Force no longer has room for people of faith? Based on the matter of Col. Bohannon, that may sadly be the case.
Leland Bohannon is a decorated colonel who has devoted decades of his life to serving our Air Force, including flying missions in the B-2 stealth bomber. He's been ranked first on his performance reports, has been bestowed numerous honors, and trusted with oversight of nuclear weapons. In other words, he's the model Air Force officer.
Yet Colonel Bohannon's career may be flushed down the drain by the Air Force simply because of a subordinate who wanted approval of a same-sex marriage. When he was handed several awards and certificates to sign for the subordinate's retirement ceremony, Colonel Bohannon signed all of them except a "certificate of spouse appreciation"—which he couldn't in good conscience sign because the certificate was for a spouse of the same sex. He sought advice about what to do from his chaplain and attorney; the chaplain told him to ask for a religious accommodation. He submitted one but it was returned six weeks later "without action." In the meantime, a major general offered to sign the certificate instead, and it was signed and presented to the subordinate. Yet when the subordinate saw that Colonel Bohannon was not the signatory, he filed an Equal Opportunity complaint against him, alleging discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
The EO investigator found that Col Bohannon violated Air Force regulations and "unlawfully discriminated against the MSgt based on sexual orientation." The EO investigator recognized that a religious accommodation had been sought, but claimed that "even had the accommodation been granted, Col Bohannon would nonetheless be guilty of unlawful discrimination."
As a result, his superior "suspended Col Bohannon from command, withheld his decoration, and submitted a letter to the Air Force Brigadier General promotion board—the rank for which Col Bohannon is eligible—recommending that Col Bohannon not be promoted."
Not only is this entire side-show an absurd waste of time, it is clearly unlawful and unconstitutional. The EO investigator is apparently ignorant of the law in this area; if a religious accommodation is granted, that means by definition that he's not "guilty of unlawful discrimination"—because he's been granted an accommodation. Moreover, religious freedom law and military policy demand that he be granted an accommodation in an instance like this—where the objective is easily fulfilled with another signature on the certificate.
At best, this entire matter is a distraction for Colonel Bohannon. At worst, it could end his career. That's the track this train is currently proceeding on.
Thankfully, our friends at First Liberty are on the case, and those in the media like Todd Starnes are calling attention to this. Let us hope the Air Force fixes the issue before the entire situation is derailed and the military environment only grows more toxic for people of faith.

Dabbling With the Dark Side? The Bible Clearly Condemns Halloween - BEN GODWIN CHARISMA NEWS

Dabbling With the Dark Side? The Bible Clearly Condemns Halloween

Darkness is used in Scripture as a metaphor for evil to represent all that is sinful and satanic.
In contrast, light is a biblical metaphor for good to represent truth and all that is of God.
The apostle Paul instructed, "Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light—for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth ... And do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness; instead, expose them" (Eph. 5:7-9, 11).
It's a tricky balance for Christians to be in the world without conforming to it.
Jesus prayed, "I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one" (John 17:15).
If we imitate the world, we lose our distinction; if we isolate from the world, we lose our influence. Christians need to engage the culture if we expect to make an impact.
It's perfectly fine for a boat to be in the water, but if too much water gets in the boat, now that's a problem. This brings up the question, "How should Christians treat Halloween?"
The origin of Halloween incorporated a mixture of Christian and pagan practices.
According to World Book Encyclopedia, "Halloween developed from an ancient pagan festival celebrated by Celtic people over 2,000 years ago in the area that is now the U.K., Ireland, and Northern France. The festival was called 'Samhain' (pronounced SOW ehn), which means 'summer's end' and it marked the beginning of the dark winter season and was celebrated around Nov. 1. In the ninth century, the Catholic Church established a new holiday—All Saint's Day, also called All Hallows. 'Hallow' means 'saint' or 'one who is holy.' The evening before All Hallows was known as All Hallow's Eve, eventually shortened to Halloween.
"About 200 years later, the church added All Soul's Day on Nov. 2, a day set aside to pray for friends and family who died. People made many of the old pagan customs part of this Christian holy day. Some put out food for their deceased ancestors, or left lanterns burning in the windows so that ghosts could find their way home for the night. In England, people went house to house 'souling,' asking for small breads called soul cakes in exchange for prayers or songs (thus the origin of trick or treating)."
While I personally don't celebrate Halloween, I'm not a killjoy on a mission to rob people of fun. I do not equate dressing up in a cartoon or superhero costume and collecting candy with devil worship.
Many believers boycott Halloween because of its dark elements. The downside is Christian kids feel like they are missing out. Thankfully, many churches offer alternatives such as trunk-or-treat or fall festivals that provide wholesome fun and safe candy zones to keep kids off the streets.
Some of what happens on Halloween is harmless fun, but anyone with any spiritual discernment cannot deny that there is a sinister side.
"Abstain from all appearances of evil" (1 Thess. 5:22). Sin, like art, starts by drawing a line somewhere! It's an odd contradiction for Christians to dress their kids up as creepy characters they try to teach them not emulate.
At this time of year there is a tsunami of horror movies flooding the airwaves featuring vampires, witches, zombies, monsters, cannibals and savage serial killers. Hollywood and viewers, it seems, have an obscene obsession with and an insatiable appetite for gory violence.
You can't avoid being bombarded by the commercials even if you just watch news or sports. These shows glamorize evil and open the door to demonic influences. Some say it's all just fantasy or harmless entertainment, but, if what people watch doesn't affect behavior, then why do companies spend billions of dollars to advertise to them?
In Greek Mythology, Zeus gave Pandora a box and a key as a wedding gift with a note "Do Not Open." Curiosity overcame her and she lifted the lid releasing all the forces of evil into the world.
The point is there are some doors you really don't want to open.
"Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him]" (Eph. 4:27, AMP).
Don't open the door to sin's destructive influence. Slam the door shut in Satan's face!
Halloween is a showcase for witchcraft which the Bible clearly condemns (Ex. 22:18; Lev. 19:31, 20:6, 27; Deut. 18:10-14; Gal. 5:19-21), calling it an "abomination"—morally disgusting, detestable, despicable and abhorrent.
Contrary to popular belief, books and movies, there is no such thing as a "good witch." That is an oxymoron. How can someone controlled by evil forces be good?
Paul asked the Corinthians, "For what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? What communion has light with darkness?" (2 Cor. 6:14, MEV).
Christians have no business dabbling in any form of witchcraft: horoscopes, crystal balls, séances, Ouija boards, Dungeons & Dragons, pentagrams, tarot cards, palm reading, spells, fortune telling, mediums, channeling, divination, sorcery, black magic and so forth.
There are only two sources of supernatural power—God and Satan. If something is not of God, where does it originate?
If you are involved in any of these practices, I urge you to repent of it, renounce it and ask God to remove it from your life. Don't gamble with your soul. Satan uses these and other ploys to deceive the masses.
What we need to know about our future is either found in Scripture or can be revealed to us by the Holy Spirit (John 16:13).
Like bugs drawn to a light to their own demise, man has an inexplicable, magnetic attraction toward evil.
Robert Rudolph said it well: "Open minds like open windows need screens to keep the bugs out."
The air may seem clean in a house, but the air filter catches many unseen pollutants. There are many false beliefs and deceptions floating around, but the Bible is our filter. Its radiant light helps us discern and dispel the darkness.
"God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5). Friends, it's not worth the eternal risk of dabbling with the dark side.

5 more to go...

Oct. 25, 2017

Greetings readers of this Love for His People blog!

So why are 5 more days to go, until I "retire" from my fulltime Accountant's job, so important to me? Well, because I have never retired before! Hitting #63 on the birthday calendar in November (Thanksgiving Day no less with all of America celebrating!) is certainly a good reason also.

I remember way back around 1996 or so when my Dad, Louis James Martin, retired from working over 30 years at the Viking Pump Foundry in Cedar Falls, Iowa. It was a big deal! Thirty years with one company isn't heard of much these days, with businesses and such hiring, firing, letting people go after a few months or years. One of the main reasons is so they don't have to pay the big benefits that one could rely on later in life, and especially medical coverage.

Yes, at one time, if you served long enough with a company, showing appreciation both ways, they acknowledged your loyalty and commitment to them. Not so much anymore. No wonder kids in the workforce move on from job to job after 2-3 years. No one has much understanding of commitment anymore.

Our family threw a big celebration for Dad, with co-workers and neighbors in attendance. Yes, retiring from a daily grind was a big deal.

My CCCP desk/cubicle for accounting. I like the pictures I had!

But my main focus, once walking out the heavy glass door at Charlotte Center City Partners for the last time as one on staff, that door which one has to almost get on their knees to unlock at the bottom, which I also opened every morning at 6:30 am, will be left behind.

At noon on October 31, 2017, the Lord is releasing me to give full focus to our ministry Love For His People, Inc. No more 40 hours of weekly data entry, Accounts Payable and Receivable, payroll entry and general journals. Nor the weekly 10 hours of commute up and down Interstate 77 each 6 am or return at 4 pm. Done! Ended!

Founded by my good wife Laurie and I in April 2010, to primarily bless the people of Israel and encourage others in the nations to do so, the work of Love For His People for these past 7 years has been ongoing, but there is only so much one can do in the work week when other commitments fill the time. But the release is coming!

Along the way, especially after I left my USA Director position at Vision For Israel in Charlotte in June 2010, it was a struggle to believe the Lord to cover the home bills while growing the ministry.

But as I shared on the many social media platforms He prophetically conveyed to me years ago, He has been faithful to bring us thus far.

And now we are ready for the blastoff - another prophetic word given and time to be released.

Some of you too have waited for the time to come and to be released. Let me tell you, it will come! You will see prophetic words over your life fulfilled, and the One Who called you by name is Faithful and True to make it happen, Even as He said it would!

So hang on. Things are about to get even more exciting.

Ahava and shalom,

Steve Martin
