Possessing Your Territory by Elaine Tavolacci Identity Network

Possessing Your Territory by Elaine Tavolacci

Identity Network March 6, 2018

There is a story in the book of Numbers when the Lord told Moses to send twelve men, one from each of the twelve tribes of Israel to spy out the land of Canaan, which is also known as the Promised Land. As I read about the giants in the land and thought about all my friends and ministers who are going through intense spiritual warfare, the Holy Spirit said: "It comes with the territory." Then He said, "Go and take possession because I have made you well able to overcome."

In the book of Numbers, ten out of the twelve spies came back with a bad report because they had seen the giants in the land. These are the same men who had previously experienced great miracles in which the Lord gave them a cloud by day, a fire by night, manna from heaven, and he miraculously provided for them for forty years in the wilderness. He also parted the Red Sea for them and six million people walked through the sea on dry ground while He destroyed their enemies.

When they went into Canaan to spy out the land, they feared the giants that they had encountered rather than remembering all that the Lord had done for them. They returned to Moses with a cluster of grapes, which was so huge, that it took two men to carry it, but they also returned with a bad report. They said that the land surely does flow with milk and honey but the giants are too large for us to conquer. They also said, "We were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."

The Lord is showing me those of you who are facing giants in your life and you see yourself as a grasshopper rather than a conqueror. You recognize that the land ahead of you is flowing with milk and honey, but your focus is on the giants. Jesus gave you a promise but you are not trusting Him for the provision. Many of you are standing on the brink of Canaan but you are in fear because you came up against those giants. Fear looks at the giants, but faith looks at the promises.

On the Brink of Your Promised Land

Two of the twelve spies who were Joshua and Caleb didn't deny that there were giants in the land, but they came back with a different story. They said, "Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it."  In Numbers 14:24 the Lord said, "but My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it."

The Lord says, "You are standing on the brink of your promised land. Pursue your journey with boldness. Just as I have performed miracles with a cloud by day and a fire by night for My people of old, I will also make provision for you and surround you with My protection. My Glory will go before you in all that I have called you to do, and every place that I have ordained for you to go. I will provide you with manna from heaven, and water from a rock. Just as I supernaturally sustained My people in the wilderness for forty years, I will also sustain you. Do not murmur and complain as the Israelites did, but know that I AM well able to bring you in.

Trust Me to part the Red Sea that is before you, just as I parted the Red Sea for My people and drowned their enemies as they tried to pursue them. You will no longer be a slave to Pharoah but you will be positioned above your taskmasters. Do not see yourself as a grasshopper in comparison to the giants that are coming against you. Give no place to fear and intimidation, but continue in confidence that I will fulfill My word that I have promised to you. The giants may appear to be immense in the natural, but that which I have given to you is so much greater.

You can Possess the Land

I will bring confusion among your enemies just as I have sent hornets to drive out their enemies. I am looking for those who will be as bold as Joshua and Caleb who didn't deny that there were giants in the land, but they knew that they were well able to overcome them. I am looking for those who will stand up and say, let us go up at once and possess the Land. Do not allow the enemy to magnify the difficult situations in your life, and don't look at the giants as unconquerable. Go forth in all that I have commissioned for you to do, and knowing that you are well able to possess the land," says the Lord.

Numbers 13:27-33 Then they told him, and said: "We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan." Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it." But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we." And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants[d] (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."

How Amos' Prophecies Are Springing to Life in Israel Right Now - LORI HINZE/UNITED WITH ISRAEL

(Unsplash/Thomas Schaefer)
Food, a basic need, holds the essence of who we are as people. Food and drink bring us together, define cultures, engages and inspire us across all spectrums of life. But food indeed goes far beyond our basic needs. It connects us to people, places, experiences and memories and has the power to elevate a mere morsel to a time-honored traditional family dish. Food and wine have always played an important role in the history of mankind; religious elements, celebrations and are even enjoyed for health benefits.
But have you ever thought about the spirituality of food and wine and how they relate to a life of biblical faith? In Christianity, this may be a new thought. In Judaism, there would be no Jewish faith without food and wine, as it plays a central role in the weekly and annual biblical celebrations. Food and wine are spiritual elements first rooted deep in the soil of Israel. From the time of Abraham, food and wine have played an integral role in covenants and Temple offerings. The Bible prophesies about food and wine with the foretaste of what's to come from Isa. 25:6: "The Lord of hosts will prepare a lavish banquet for all peoples on the mountain; A banquet of aged wine, choice pieces with marrow, and refined, aged wine."
Winemaking Began in Israel
Wine is one of the oldest biblical foods, and Israel has been producing it longer than anyone. After the great flood, Noah first planted vineyards, and wine is one of the elements of Shabbat, Passover and Sukkot. Just as wine is a blessing from the Lord, it is also an expression of gratitude and joy. It's customary for people in Israel to raise a glass and say, "L'Chaim!!" (meaning, "To Life!!") before drinking wine.
Consider that during Passover, wine is the central element of a Jewish family Seder. The four cups enjoyed at the Seder represent the cup of sanctification to set Passover apart as a holy celebration, the cup of plagues to remember God's judgments, the cup of blessing for Freedom from slavery and the cup of the coming Messianic kingdom (Ex. 6:6-7. There are many spiritual lessons we can learn from wine and the vineyard.
From daily nourishment to celebrating biblical holidays, food is the hub of it all. Honoring the Sabbath with bread, celebrating Passover with lamb, welcoming in the biblical New Year of Rosh HaShanah with apples and honey and celebrating Sukkot with eight days of feasting, we taste the prophetic words of Ezekiel: "But you, mountains of Israel, you will sprout your branches and bear your fruit for my people Israel, who will soon return" (Ezek. 36:8).
In Israel, we see the prophetic words of Amos: "I will restore the fortunes of My people Israel; they will rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them; they will plant vineyards and drink their wine, they will make gardens and eat their fruit" (Amos 9:14). God is fulfilling his promise to bring His people back to their ancient, God-given homeland with Jewish wineries and local, bustling food markets and restaurants popping up year after year. Even more proof of the role of wine in Jewish Israel, there is an Israeli winery making wine from a nearly extinct species of indigenous grapes used in biblical winemaking thousands of years ago, suggesting this may be the wine King David drank.
Seeing the Bible in Real Time
And you know, prophecy is not always mysterious. When you eat food in Israel, biblical prophecy is tangible, tasty and literally leaves you fulfilled. A food journey and visits to ancient vineyards that have come alive again after 3,000 years is seeing the Bible in real time, face to face with words of the prophets as foretold in Scripture. Food and wine are a blessing and to see the spiritual and prophetic element of it is enriching and brings a new awareness of the depth and riches of its role in a life of worship and biblical observance.
Israel, the light to the nations, is the only place on earth where God's redemptive plan begins and ends through a specific place and a specific people but available to all of mankind. The only thing better than standing united with Israel is standing in Israel—a living, breathing miracle of restoration as promised in the Bible.
If you believe in miracles, then Israel is living proof that prophecy is edible and eating and drinking wine in Israel is heaven on earth. L'Chaim!

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog: “Darkness Is Falling: Vladimir Putin and the Threat to the West.

New post on Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog

“Darkness Is Falling: Vladimir Putin and the Threat to the West. (Full text of my address to the 2018 National Religious Broadcasters Convention.)

by joelcrosenberg
Nashville, Tennessee -- On the eve of the release of The Kremlin Conspiracy, I was invited to deliver a keynote address to the National Religious Broadcasters convention.
Here is a link to the full text of my speech. We will post the video when it's available.
The following are selected excerpts from the speech:
Preaching the gospel in the open air is now illegal in Russia. So is sharing the gospel with friends and coworkers—even in your own home. So is inviting friends to come to church to hear the Word of God. Christianity Today described the new Russian law signed in July 2016 as the “most restrictive measures [against religious freedom] in post-Soviet history”....
143 million people spread across eleven time zones are slaves of an evil they either cannot see or cannot stop. We must stand with our brothers and sisters who love Christ but hear the prison doors closing and locking around them. We dare not put our lamp under a bushel. The Billy Graham era may be over, but we must never stop communicating the Good News, especially to nations enslaved by cruel and wicked tyrants....
Darkness is falling in Russia. A new czar has risen, and his name is Vladimir Putin. Putin calls himself a Christian, but he has declared war on the gospel.
Opponents wind up in jail. Journalists disappear or die. The economy is suffocating. Poverty is rampant. Deaths by alcoholism and drug overdoses are exploding. Since Putin came to power in 2000, the population has shrunk by more than three million people. They’re not emigrating. They’re dying. One in four Russian men die before age fifty-five. And Russians aren’t having enough children to replace themselves. Why would they? They have no hope.
Yet on March 18—barring something unforeseen—Russians will go to the polls and re-elect Vladimir Putin once again, giving him power to rule until 2024. Why? If life is so dismal in post-Soviet Russia, why is Putin so popular? Why should it matter to our leaders in Washington that by the end of his next term, Putin will have ruled for nearly a quarter of century? And why should any of this matter to you and the American Evangelical movement? Allow me to take those questions one at a time....
Why should any of this matter to leaders in Washington and the West?
Because Vladimir Putin poses a grave and growing threat to the national security of the United States and our allies of any power in the world—greater than Radical Islam, greater than Iran or North Korea or China...
Putin made global headlines around the world by announcing that Russia has developed new first-strike nuclear missiles and state-of-the-art hypersonic underwater torpedoes that make NATO defenses “completely useless.” In an angry, menacing State of the Union address, the Russian president vowed that “Russia cannot be contained.” He explained when and how Russia will use nuclear weapons against her enemies. He complained no one has been listening to his threats and promises of nuclear superiority over the West. “Listen now,” he warned. “I’m not bluffing.”
Putin is hungry for wealth, hungrier for power, hungrier still for territory. He must be stopped, yet no one is stopping him....
Putin is that he sees himself as a modern-day czar. He’s not a Communist. He’s not a Marxist or Leninist. He is, rather, an imperialist. He feels humiliated by the collapse of the Soviet Empire. He sees his mission as rebuilding the glory of Mother Russia, and to that end, he is hell-bent on expanding Russia’s borders.
“My historical mission,” he once said, is to stop “the collapse of the USSR. . . . If I can help save Russia from collapse, then I’ll have something to be proud of. “The monarch [that is, the czar] doesn’t have to worry about whether or not he will be elected, or about petty political interests, or about how to influence the electorate. He can think about the destiny of the people and not become distracted with trivialities.” Thus, one part mafia kingpin, one part imperialist czar, Putin is . . .
  • rebuilding the Russian offensive war machine, o rebuilding Russia’s strategic and tactical nuclear forces
  • selling advanced weapons and even nuclear technology to Iran
  • selling weapons to North Korea
  • invading her neighbors, o silencing his critics
  • threatening the West.
The big question is: What’s next?
