What Many Misunderstand About Jesus' Humility

MICHAEL YOUSSEF  CHARISMA NEWS
Those who only see Jesus as the gentle Lamb of God forget that He is also the fierce Lion of Judah. When Jesus said, "I am meek and lowly" (Matt. 11:29), He did not mean that He is soft, timid or weak. Rather, He is power under control.
Christ's humility reveals much about His matchless power and extravagant love. When He took on flesh, Jesus restrained His power—power that can create from nothing and utterly undo everything—choosing instead mercy and grace. When tempted, He remained without sin. When spat upon, He did not retaliate. Knowing His disciples would forsake Him, He washed their feet. What takes more power than to leave the glory of heaven and come to earth to save and serve undeserving sinners?
Don't misunderstand: Jesus also had moments where He expressed righteous anger. He rebuked the Pharisees for their legalism. He overturned the tables of those who had turned His Father's house into a marketplace. Whenever we see Jesus respond in anger, it is always righteous, always appropriate.
Jesus is not a passive teacher, a detached guru or a peace-loving hippie. In Revelation 1:12-18, we read that the glorified Christ has eyes of blazing fire, feet of bronze, a voice like rushing waters, a face like the sun and a sword coming out of His mouth. This image made the apostle John fall at his feet as though dead—and it should fill us with awe and wonder that such a great and holy God would give His life for us.

Prayer: Lord, You are the Lion and the Lamb, holy and humble, just and merciful. Thank You that You care for me—that You exert Your power for my good out of Your grace. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
"[H]e made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, ... Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name" (Phil. 2:7a9, ESV).

When I began writing on my Enliven Blog ten years ago, I was spiritually dry and recovering from burnout. Yet now, as I write this on my blog's tenth anniversary, I look back in amazement at what can only be a move of the Holy Spirit.
So, if you can relate to feeling weary; if you sometimes wonder how you can complete the work God has called you to, be encouraged. Your Father wants you to know that He is unfailing. There is never any moment you where cannot draw life from Him! And if you have experienced spiritual dryness, you can be refilled.
Below is the story of how I overcame spiritual dryness, as well as some helpful keys to overcoming this in your own life.
1. Realize Your Weakness Is Not an Obstacle to God
Contemplating this milestone of a decade has been both wonderful and humbling for me; it is a miracle of God's grace that has made this possible, with the generous help of others. But to be honest, at the time, the thought of doing it again, even for one more week, was daunting! That is until I paused in prayer, and suddenly found myself in a vision.
In the vision, I was by a bubbling brook, surrounded by greenery. There was an indescribable peace in that place. The brook's water was flowing endlessly through a large rock. Then I noticed something. The water was pouring forth from the mouth of a clay jar. I suddenly knew that clay jar was cracked and broken, but it was completely encompassed by the rock. Within the rock, the jar was tilted in such as way that the water poured forth endlessly; only its mouth was visible.
"But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us."(2 Cor. 4:7 NIV) (Photo via Flickr)
Do you feel weak, or even cracked and broken in some way? Your weakness is not an obstacle to Him. Hear your Father say, "My grace towards you is such that My glory will shine through you and My power be seen upon you!" (2 Cor 12:9).
2. Be Dependent Upon Jesus
The clay jar I saw in the vision had capacity to pour because it was held and encased in the rock. You can have complete security in Jesus when He is your Rock, your source of life.
"[A]nd all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ." (1 Cor. 10:4 NKJV)
A cure for spiritual dryness is to be continually dependent upon Him. This is a position you can hold by faith.
Jesus explained it this way: "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5 NKJV).
Your longevity in ministry doesn't rest on your ability or diligence, as important as these things are. It rests on your dependence upon Christ. Jesus uses the image of the vine and the branches to illustrate what He means by "abiding in Him." The branches are a part of the vine—an extension of it. They are not merely joined, they are one.
You can have the revelation of being one with Christ, and then live rested in that position of union with Him.
Can't You Talk Louder, God?
3. Live and Work Out of the Father's Delight
At the start of 2009, around eight months before I started my blog, I released most of my ministry roles. Everything I thought God had lined up for me, in order to fulfill His call on my life, had fallen over. I was now well into my forties. I had worked so hard but seemed to have lost it all, and had nothing left to give. Yet the Lord was at work. He allowed my spiritual dryness, for it led to my healing.
In my crisis of faith, I asked over and over, "Are You the God I am afraid that You are—a task-master whose approval I can never win? Or the Father I have longed for—a God of grace and joy?"
I had known theoretically that God was my Father, but I didn't know Him as my loving Father.
After a life-changing encounter with God as my Abba Father, I finally knew I didn't need to work for His approval. I was already "good enough"! I knew I was, always had been, and always would be His beloved child. And on this new foundation, I began to write.
Your Father is delighted in you; not because of anything you can do for Him. He loves you, He loves you, He loves you.
4. Be Continuously Filled with the Spirit
As 2010 began, my husband Malcolm and I both had a glorious infilling with the Holy Spirit. So much so, Malcolm had to carry me out of a meeting! (Photo via Pexels)
Finally, I had moved from spiritual dryness into overflow, but it started more than 6 months earlier as I learned to have regular encounters with God that replenished me, little by little.
We need to know where our life flow comes from. When we are releasing life to others out of our intimate relationship with God, we can continue to serve. Jesus said, "'Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.' By this He meant the Spirit..." (John 7:38-39 NIV). The source of this river is His Spirit, flowing from within us.
You are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19), and God's design for you is to never run dry. Today, I pray His life is released powerfully from within you. May you be filled and overflow with His immeasurable joy.
Your Work Matters to God
God created us to be in close relationship with Him. This doesn't mean that work is not important to God!
Yes, we need to take special time out for rest and prayer to prevent spiritual dryness, but there is no place where relationship ends and work begins. We do not work for God, we work with God, and our Father doesn't grade different types of work. Remember, in the beginning He put Adam to work tending the garden. All work can be done to the glory of God (Col. 3:17).
Today, I pray that you will know what it means to be filled to overflowing, and that any spiritual dryness will be swept away by an encounter with the grace of God.
He is waiting for you with open arms. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Daniel 2:1-5 MEV And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams, and his spirit was troubled and his sleep left him. Then the king gave the command to call the magicians and the astrologers and the sorcerers and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king. The king said to them, “I have had a dream, and my spirit is anxious to understand the dream.” Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic, “O king, live forever. Tell your servants the dream, and we will tell the interpretation.” The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, “The command from me is firm: If you will not make known to me the dream with its interpretation, you shall be cut in pieces and your houses shall be made a dunghill.
Daniel 2:13 MEV Therefore the decree went out that the wise men should be slain. And they sought for Daniel and his companions to be slain.

Daniel 2:31-34 MEV “You, O king, were watching, and there was a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before you. And its form was awesome. This image’s head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. You watched until a stone was cut out without hands which struck the image upon its feet, which were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces.”
Daniel 2:47 MEV The king answered Daniel and said, “Truly your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you could reveal this secret.”
Daniel 2:37 MEV You, O king, are the king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
Daniel 2:39 MEV “After you, another kingdom inferior to you shall arise, and a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth.”
Revelation 13:13-14 MEV He performs great signs, making fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. He deceives those who dwell on the earth by the signs which he was granted to do in the presence of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by a sword and lived.
Daniel 7:3-7 MEV Four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse from one another. The first was like a lion and had eagle’s wings. I watched until its wings were plucked and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it. Another beast appeared, a second, like a bear, and it raised itself up on one side, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said to it, “Arise, devour much flesh.” After this I looked and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a fowl. The beast also had four heads. And dominion was given to it. After this I saw in the visions at night a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and exceedingly strong. And it had great iron teeth. It devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the rest with its feet. And it was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.
Daniel 7:24 MEV The ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise; and another shall rise after them, and he shall be different from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

2 Chronicles 7:14 MEV If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Matthew 24:24 KJV For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Matthew 24:32-34 KJV Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Commitment - To Do or Not To Do - Steve Martin - Paperback & Kindle

Commitment - To Do or Not To Do

Published Aug. 18, 2019

Paperback: $14.95
Kindle $2.95

A few months ago I sensed the Lord wanted me to write a book on being committed, day in and day out. Not just about some fad that comes and goes, as they do each decade, or even monthly, but of the eternal perspective He has, and gives to us.

People need something to stand on, that doesn’t shift with every wind and movement that comes along. They need solid ground, especially when their world begins to shake. There is no other on which to stand, on which to build one’s life, than on the Word of God, the Torah, the Bible. The very one Who has created everything certainly knows what is needed for each of us to achieve fulfillment, purpose, and the destiny He has given in His ultimate realm of salvation, redemption, and life with Him, for us and the nations.

When the Holy Spirit gave me the thought to search for all the messages I had thus far written, now going beyond 470 in these last 9 years, that had the word “commit” or “commitment” in them, I was amazed when over 70 appeared on the list. Being an accountant by trade, that is 15%. Not an insignificant number. Thus those compiled messages in this book will reveal at least one thing – that our Lord is faithful and committed, and as we choose to follow Him, we too will be as He is.

Choose this day to seek Him, know Him, and be committed above all to Him. Then you too will discover that His Word is the final word.

Every Abortion Clinic in US to Receive 'Unplanned' Movie DVD: Find Out How to Get Your Copy
08-13-2019
The pro-life motion picture "Unplanned" will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and in digital formats on Tuesday, and Abby Johnson, the woman whose true transformational story is the subject of the movie, is taking advantage of the event by sending a DVD to every abortion clinic in the nation.
"Unplanned" is the true story of former Planned Parenthood clinic director Johnson, which debuted in United States theaters on March 29. The movie is currently screening in theaters around the world.
The film is the dramatic account of Johnson's rise in the abortion provider's organization. In eight years, she rose from college volunteer to one of the youngest clinic directors, to Employee of the Year - then she assisted with an abortion. The inspiring film traces Johnson's journey from staunch abortion advocate to standing side-by-side with the people who prayed for her spiritual transformation and facing the full, head-on attack of one of the most powerful organizations on Earth.
According to And Then There Were None, Johnson's ministry which helped more than 525 abortion workers to leave their jobs, 800 abortion clinics across the country will each receive a copy of the film.
"When former abortion workers who came through And Then There Were None first saw the movie, they overwhelmingly said how much the story reflected their own experiences. These former workers stated that they felt validated in what they had experienced and seen inside the abortion industry," Johnson said in a press release. "While the film isn't easy to watch, I want everyone working in the abortion industry to see it and to know there is a lifeline to get out."
The "Unplanned" DVD and Blu-ray includes interviews with Johnson, a making-of featurette, deleted scenes and trailers, and Matthew West's "Unplanned's" official music video.
"Anyone who has had an abortion, is contemplating an abortion or works in the abortion industry, I encourage you to see "Unplanned," Johnson said. "Supporters of abortion who watch this movie cannot walk away without explicitly knowing what they support."
