From Balfour to today: Has Great Britain turned its back on the Jewish people? All Israel News

I am a proud Brit, proud of our heritage.

The UK wrote the White Paper known as the Balfour Declaration, promoting the idea of a homeland for the Jewish people. Written on November 2, 1917, many of those who came together were Christians who believed that the Jews needed to be in their own land for Jesus (Yeshua) to return. It must have been so exciting to be part of that historic document.

In reality, it didn’t initially mean much because it was only a recommendation, and Great Britain did not control Palestine. But then something remarkable happened—Palestine came under the British Mandate, and this declaration could now be implemented.

It truly is amazing. The Balfour Declaration was written on November 2, 1917, and Britain captured Jerusalem in December 1917, occupying the entire region in 1918. Israel recognizes Britain’s contribution to the Holy Land; every year I receive a partial visa exemption because of this shared history.

It is a wonderful history, although to be fair, we have not always been a blessing to the Jewish people.

Sadly, today Great Britain is very much lacking in its love for the Jewish people. Could you imagine the Balfour Declaration being written today?

Keir Starmer has declared his support for a Palestinian state, which rewards terrorism and offers no clear guidelines. We have turned our back on our Middle East ally and on God’s promise. He also refused to allow the U.S. to use its bases at the start of the war with Iran.

It is ironic—he does not want to be part of a war with Iran, a war that could bring peace to the region, because Iran is a major sponsor of terror. It is a war he could win, yet he chooses a path that puts him in opposition to God—something he could never win.

The British government supports a two-state solution. But a two-state solution already exists today, because Great Britain is responsible for giving away 77% of Palestine. That 77% became known as Jordan. We already have a two-state solution, which goes against God’s word.

The Bible is clear that God’s promise is an eternal covenant, as stated in Genesis:

“Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.” (Genesis 17:8 NKJV)

You do not touch the apple of God’s eye. If you try, you will lose.

It is sad that we have fallen so far from our Balfour Declaration days. And it is not just the government. It was deeply troubling to read the headline in All Israel News:

“No Zios in the flat”: One in five British students reluctant or unwilling to share a home with a Jew, new poll reveals.

This isn’t just sad—it is shocking. It is disgraceful. It is antisemitic. It is a sad indictment of Great Britain.

The Union of Jewish Students (UJS) released a report about the severe levels of antisemitism on British campuses, based on new research and accompanied by recommendations. Between Jan. 26 and Feb. 4, a poll commissioned by JL Partners surveyed 1,000 university students from 170 higher education institutions about their experiences and opinions regarding antisemitism on UK campuses.

This is the same Great Britain whose history and heritage I once felt proud of. Now, I feel ashamed. We have fallen greatly as a nation.

We have become a country where Jews no longer feel safe, and that disgusts me. We are a nation where Jewish ambulances—vehicles that serve the community—can be burned in the streets simply because they are Jewish.

At music festivals, people proudly shout “Death to the IDF.” We have nothing to be proud of.

Britain needs to be great again. It must rise out of this antisemitic hatred. We need to repent and return to God. We must recognize that we are on a collision course with Him—and we cannot win.

The Bible says in Genesis 12:3:
“I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

I want to live in the blessings of God, and I want my country to live in those blessings. We need to bless the Jewish people, and in time, we will become great again.

"His Appointments" - message by Steve Martin

His Appointments

We all have our disappointments. And yet when I look back, I can see our Lord’s hand in them - protecting us, guarding us, keeping us from going down a path that we thought was for sure the way to go.

Even when we say to ourselves and others, “I am positive this is the Lord’s will. How can it not be?”

And then it didn’t go as expected.

I recall the true Bible story of Joseph hearing that his fiancée, Mary, was pregnant before they knew each other intimately. And the child was not his. How greatly disappointed he must have felt? “Why, Lord? YOU GAVE HER TO ME!”

How did that turn out for Joseph? And Mary?

We can’t, we don’t, always see the Lord’s hand in our lives. We don’t have the capacity to carry it, to do it at the time, as He knows and does.

We have to trust in the Lord’s hands. He said He loves us. Is He a liar?

Thank You, Lord, for the times I didn’t marry that one; I didn’t get on that plane; my event was canceled…and then tragedy occurred exactly where "I just knew I was supposed to have been" before Your hand stopped me.

We must also realize that this life isn’t just about me. So many more are involved. I like the Jewish culture. It isn’t “me”, it is “us.” We need more of that.

His appointments carry us beyond the disappointments. When they come, keep looking for His open door. It is coming. I can promise you that, because He is ALWAYS Faithful.

Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who wait for His faithfulness…” Psalm 33:18, NASB

Now, back to my blueberry bagel. It seems to have more purple in it this time. Yeah Lord!

Message #20 in the year of our Lord, April 6, 2026.

It would be nice if you could run down to the local grocery store and buy a package of hope. After all, don’t we find we need it every day? A few good helpings daily sure would be nice. It is not quite that simple to get, but hope is certainly possible to obtain and keep.

The way I have found hope is by believing the promises of the Lord Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, as put forth truthfully in the Bible. Through the centuries, the words written in the Word have proven accurate and life-changing for those who have chosen to believe. I include myself among them. The daily news will get you discouraged. The bank statement and monthly bills, which arrive by mail or on your smartphone, will drain you of your pursuit of happiness.

One minute you are “up”. The next minute you hit a wall. What is it that keeps us pressing on to accomplish the good in life? Family and friends can be a good source of support, but even then, those relationships can falter. We need more. We need hope in our lives.

My desire and prayer is that as you read these messages, you will obtain hope. Not a hope that will get you just through this day, but an eternal hope where you can stand strong, press on, and know deep in your heart that when it is all said and done, what He, Jesus, has said and done will be the very truth that keeps you until the end.

Find hope. Keep it within, and know that the faith, hope and love of the Almighty God will always be there for you. He is our only hope.

The 1979 Production of An Old Man Remembers at New Covenant Christian Church in East Lansing. This was found on an old VHS so the video quality is damaged, but it satisfies the requests I have received from several people through the years.

(Steve Martin “died on the cross” 13x over the play’s run. But I was the “good thief!”)

I loved the songs and music, even if over 40 years old.

Resurection Sunday has come. Over 2 thousand years ago.

The Messiah, Yeshua HaMashiah, has already come. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to redeem us to the Father. He suffered, died, and rose, fulfilling the Jewish prophecies for the coming Messiah's redemption.

We celebrate the hope, promises, and fullfilment of what more is yet to come.

Happy Resurrection Day!

"Carry My Bags" by Steve Martin

Carry My Bags

Totally devastated. After 14 years of service in the ministry, in which I was called “part of the family”, in April 1999, I asked a very personal question to the founder of the ministry, “Can I go with you on your next international trip?” His answer came back without hesitation, “What would you do, carry my bags?” My heart sank.

I knew then that I was leaving this work. The Lord had another place for me. And He did, showing His faithfulness as He always does throughout this whole time.

Looking back on that time, when my heart’s desire was to travel, not just for the sake of traveling, but to do more than sit behind an administration and accounting desk, while taking the leaders to the airport and back 400 times over those years, I knew the Lord had more plans for me to accomplish. My heart was burning for something more.

In the summer of 2026, a trio of friends from Jerusalem, the co-founder of Christian Friends of Israel, Sharon Sanders, and two staff members, will be flying to the USA to hold meetings in Texas, California, Colorado, Montana, and more. I have been asked to accompany them on that journey, as a driver, the worship leader, and the book table manager. I am looking forward to it.

And I will be glad to carry their bags, as they are all older than my 71 years. Thank You, Lord.

And oh yes, speaking of international travel. Since that moment in 1999, when I left the ministry after giving my six-month notice, I have been to Israel 30 times, China, England, Ireland, Trinidad-Tobago, and more.

The Lord gives us the desires of our hearts. After all, He is the One who puts them there.

Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4, NASB

Carry on!
