Multi-All! - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Multi-All!

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“…and he made him a varicolored tunic.” (Genesis 37:3-4, NASU)

Talk about writing some good news! The Charlotte Observer (Charlotte, North Carolina) finally did it this morning on their Sunday, October 22, 2017 front page. I personally rarely read that newspaper by the way, with its anti-bent slant on most of the many things which I stand for in this life. But thanks Tim Funk. You did good.

What was the article about, filling almost a full page? How Elevation Church (Steven Furtick) is becoming more and more multi-racial, multi-cultural, and multi-generational. Multi-ALL!

Being a light to the nations has to begin with how we join with each other - to be that which we have been called to be. Joining together black, white, Jew and Gentile, to be the Body of Messiah. Why else did the Creator choose to create all kinds that He has? And no wonder there are so many Chinese! The Lord Jesus loves them so much!

When it comes to doing the right thing, the churches in our nations better be taking the lead. You want racism dealt with? Better have a multi-racial gathering Sunday mornings in your church.

Want the Millennials to gain some wisdom, especially from the Golden Oldies (like me!)? Join together in church and small group gatherings.

Looking for a place that, wow! Even Jews, Gentiles, and anyone in between (is there such a one?) celebrate life? Use our synagogues and churches as a place that all can worship the Living God of Israel together. (And no, there is no other god above Him.)

I grew up in Waterloo, Iowa. Went to a parochial Catholic high school (Columbus High). Of the 1100 students from 9th-12th grade, there were many 15 black kids. Racial tension was often present, with the “West Side” and the “East Side”. But I was friends with at least half of them whom I personally knew. They were good kids.

And then I married a German Lutheran 18-year old girl! (Her father's name was Otto Unzicker. Loved him and still do. See you in heaven Otto!)

(Photo: Otto with his Bethlehem Bell painting after his trip to Israel in the late 1980's.)

If we are going to be the answer to the racial tension in our cities, our schools, and even within many churches, believers have to take the lead and do what the Lord Jesus, Yeshua, commanded us to do. Love our neighbors as ourselves. And yes, my neighborhood neighbor next door is black. Single mother Tracey, her son Diesel and mom are originally from Atlanta. I have mowed their yard occasionally being she works two jobs.

Do we practice what we so often preach? Check out this photo of our band in 2001.

Steve Martin & The Raiders 2001 – white, black, Native American, male and female!
Old and bearded too!

How about this photo above from 2013? The Ahava Love Band with Jew (Gid Anthony - guitar) black man (Ron Bowen - drums), the Islands! (Wane Daroux - bass guitar), keyboard and singers (Patty Paquette and Laurie Martin - white females) and then me. The old man!

Wane Daroux (bass guitar) - Love the smile as he looks at Ron Bowen on drums.

In order to fight the ungodly spirit of racism, the anti-Semitic overtures in many countries, and the young versus old culture that is blasted out from almost every front, believers need to be the ones to show it right, get it right, and do it right.

If you haven’t got a friend who doesn’t look like you, talk like you, eat like you, or speak like you, then maybe it is about time you get one. That is the Plan He has set forth. Hear and obey what He knows and has desired since the day His family revealed themselves to us, as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Got it?

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).

LoveMusic! - Ahava Love Band - Steve & Laurie Martin - Messianic worship music

Ahava Love Band
Steve & Laurie Martin

Messianic worship music
Full worship time recording

Aug. 20, 2017

Greetings LoveMusic! listeners.

During our almost 40 years of marriage (Oct. 7, 2017!!!), Laurie and I have been involved with the worship teams, choirs, and any form of church music we could (including leading worship in home groups). Using the gifts the good Lord, the Living God of Israel has given us, we loved to sing His praises, worship His Name, and help bring others into the presence of the Holy Spirit.

From the days of Victory Church in Peru, Illinois (1977-1980); our years with Shiloh Fellowship/New Covenant Christian Church in East Lansing, Michigan (1980-1987); then seven years in Fort Lauderdale with Good News Church and Cornerstone Church (Davie, FL) from 1987-1994; onto the season with All Nations Church in Charlotte, North Carolina (1994-2000)...we have been involved with Christian music.

During those years we developed a love for Israel and His Chosen people, as we sought to walk in the full word of the Bible. Our hearts and voices then began to express our love for Messianic music, and it was especially revealed through the music we sang. With songs from Paul Wilbur, Barry and Batya Segal, Joel Chernoff and others having influence among us, we shared their music.

Then we walked through our years with other churches in the Charlotte, North Carolina area - Cornerstone Church (Pineville), St. Giles, Antioch International Church (Peter Wyns) MorningStar (Rick Joyner), and now attend Transformation Church (Derwin Gray) in Indian Land, South Carolina. (We were once called "wandering Jews", though of the Gentile flavor!)

Along the way, we gathered friends and had a few bands, with our desire to share Jesus (Yeshua) with believers and not-yet-believers. Thus Steve Martin & The Raiders and Ahava Love Band (various phases) came forth. Band members who were with us the longest included our big friend Little Big Eagle (bass), Ron Bowen (drums), and Wane Daroux (bass).

Steve & Laurie Martin, Little Big Eagle, Mark DeVito

Also playing with us during those years were Mark DeVito (keyboard), John Rust (guitar), Bernie Lemke (keyboard), Gid Anthony (guitar) Patty Paquette (keyboard), Toni Bogart (keyboard) and Tom Fahey (guitar). We love them all!!!

Our last time leading worship occurred on September 21, 2013 at the One New Man worship gathering with our friend Warren Marcus in Charlotte. Cathy Hargett (Highway To Zion) and her dance team joined in the Saturday evening celebration.

As I always enjoy doing, I brought along my Canon PowerShot camera, placed it on the tripod, and recorded the time of praise and worship. Thus the video you shall see. Not spectacular or professional, but I believe our love (ahava in Hebrew) for the Lord and His people comes forth. I trust you will listen and worship the Lord along with us.

Maybe someday we will sing again in public, and lead worship. What a great joy that will be! Or the Lord may just have us wait until we are in the eternity realms singing His praises - in the glory land of heaven above. That will be the ultimate fulfillment of that desire which He Himself placed within us from the times of our birth.

Be blessed in your blessing others today.

Ahava and shalom. Always.

Steve Martin

In 2010 the Lord God of Israel, my Savior Jesus Christ (Yeshua HaMashiach), led me to start the ministry we call Love For His People. Its primary purpose is to share the love of the Lord with the nation of Israel, Jews around the world, and the people in all the nations as we can. For that end, through social media, writing and distributing books, and in person ministry, we are seeing the love of Jesus spread. We are grateful that He has given us much love in order to do just that.

We often hear the word “love” spoken out loud, and written about, in many ways. It has contrasting meanings to the wide range of people that exist, as it is expressed in different methods through people. When it has all been said and done, there is an eternal love that will stand the test of fire. Because the biblical expression of love, laying down one’s life for his friends, has eternal value, this love from God the Father to His creation is the type that I most seek after and try to share.

In these short chapters of Arms of Love, which is also the title of a song Laurie and I sang while leading various church worship meetings, and as the lead singers in our Ahava Love Band, I share some aspects of how I believe the Bible speaks of love. For you who are about to read this, my prayer is that your heart will be enlarged with His, and you too will become one, even more, to give love for His people, both Jew and Gentile, both saved and unsaved.

I hope that as you read these chapters, you will become more inspired to spend time with the Lord, experience His heart of love, and share it with our fellow man. The world needs to know the love of God.

Ahava - What Does It Mean? (Hebrew word)

The word "AHAVA" in Hebrew
- love in English

Love, Jewish Style

By Ahuva Bloomfield

Hebrew, as one may know, is considered by the Bible to be the first language. It is the language through which God spoke in creating the world. Hence, Hebrew was not just created by God, but utilized by God in creating the world. Much wisdom is attributed to the words and letters in the Hebrew language.

Understanding the concepts that are invested in words can aid us in our own lives. As an interesting example, the word "love" which is thrown about so freely in English, has a special meaning in Hebrew.

Love in Hebrew is "Ahava" , which is made up of three basic Hebrew letters, . These three letters actually are broken down into two parts: a two letter base or root, , and the first letter, , which is a modifier. The meaning of the two letter base, , is "to give". The letter "aleph" , which precedes these two letters comes to modify the meaning of the base word, "give". The meaning of , is "I give" and also "love".

We now see the connection between the two words, "I give" and "love". Love is giving. Now only is love giving, but the actual process of giving develops the very connection between the giver and the receiver.

There is no greater giving than that of a husband and wife. Each one gives to the other. The more giving that one does, the greater is the connection.

Why? The process of giving is a vehicle through which the giver through his act of giving is able to, through a physical gift (or even a verbal comment), give of himself to another. This act of giving something is not merely helping another. For sure, giving is helping another, but it is much more than that.

Giving is a method that enables us to make a connection to another. When we give to another, that which we give to him/her, could have been utilize to further our own self. In stead, we choose to take this object, which could have been utilized for our own needs and instead, use it for someone else.

Giving is a condition that creates and sustains love. With out giving, there is no connection that is sustaining.

The true relationships that our meaningful in our lives are those in which mutual giving takes place. The giving may be physical, emotional, intellectual or a combination. But with out giving from ourselves, no relationship can be enduring.

That is the secret of love that is revealed to us by the Hebrew language. This is the secret that is invested in the language by the Creator.
