The BDS Movement Has Taken Some Big Hits - ADAM ABRAMS/JNS.ORG

The BDS Movement Has Taken Some Big Hits

Israel's Knesset last week passed landmark legislation against the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, representing just one of several setbacks this month for BDS around the world.
The Israeli bill, which passed its third and final reading with a 46-28 vote, grants the interior minister authority to deny entry visas to non-Israeli citizens who actively support boycotts of the Jewish state.
Conveying the rationale for the anti-BDS measure, Member of Knesset David Amsalem (Likud), chairman of the Knesset Interior Committee, said that "if someone demeans me, I do not let them into my home." Responding to critics of the legislation, Amsalem clarified that the new law is not intended to stifle free speech, but was implemented to combat anti-Semitism and enemies of the Jewish state. These opponents of Israel he said, "are not talking about boycotting only the settlements; they are talking about boycotting the state as a state, without any distinction. We are talking about anti-Semites here."
One of the bill's initiators, MK Bezalel Smotrich (Jewish Home), expressed similar sentiments, saying, "In recent years, a new anti-Semitic front has been initiated against Israel. Our enemies carry out a campaign to delegitimize and boycott Israel. Banning BDS supporters that come here to harm us from within is the minimum we can do against those Israel-haters."
Left-wing Knesset members and several American Jewish organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League as well as the Reform and Reconstructionist movements, were highly critical of the new anti-BDS law. MK Tamar Zandberg (Meretz) said the law "is against freedom of expression" and "is meant to silence people." The left-wing American Jewish lobby group J Street claimed the law "damages Israel's democracy and helps the BDS movement." The American Jewish Committee, a centrist group, said that it is "troubled" by the legislation.
Despite the controversy, Israel's new anti-BDS law represents just one of several recent setbacks for the global BDS movement. Last week, the Republican-led New York State Senate passed its own anti-boycott legislation with an overwhelming 49-11 majority. The bill seeks to withhold state funding from any student group that engages in hate speech and actively calls to boycott Israel or other "allied nations." The bill will now move to the state assembly, where it is anticipated to encounter some opposition.
Much like Israel's anti-BDS bill, the New York measure has come under scrutiny. The New York Civil Liberties Union and the pro-Palestinian group Palestine Legal asserted that the law unfairly denies public funding to students practicing constitutionally protected political speech. New York State Senator Todd Kaminsky (D-Long Island) responded to the bill's critics by saying, "We don't have to stand by and give taxpayer money to groups that sell such hate."
Another victory against BDS on U.S. college campuses came at Ohio State University (OSU) last week. Three OSU students led a successful initiative against the anti-Israel group "OSU Divest," which had petitioned to place a pro-BDS referendum on the student government ballot under the guise of a humanitarian initiative. The BDS petition was defeated in a 4,084-3,843 vote.
The setbacks for BDS also extended to Europe. Spain's ruling Partido Popular party approved new amendments that categorically reject the BDS movement. Partido's move represents the first initiative explicitly opposed to BDS by a Spanish political party. Angel Mas, the president of Spanish pro-Israel group ACOM, told the Jerusalem Post that "the time has come to end the impunity, force accountability and create real deterrence against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement in Spain."
Also last week, Christian Imark—a member of the conservative Swiss People's Party and deputy leader of the National Council, the lower chamber of Switzerland's legislature—introduced a groundbreaking anti-BDS bill that passed in a 111-78 vote in the lower chamber. The legislation seeks to halt government funding of organizations that support BDS and contribute to the spread of anti-Semitism. The bill must now clear the legislature's upper chamber, The Council of States, before it can be enacted into law.

Stop the Boycott of Israeli Goodies - Buy Israeli Hoodies! I DID! - Steve Martin, LOVE FOR HIS PEOPLE, INC.

Stop the Boycott of Israeli Goodies
 - Buy Israeli Hoodies!

I DID! I DO!

The nations have been practicing anti-Semitism since day one, and now they have started another form of it. Governments in Europe, and now the USA, are enforcing laws stating that any goods produced in the so-called "West Bank" (Judea and Samaria) must carry a label saying "Made in the West Bank", rather than "Made in Israel". Thus any product not having that "West Bank" label will not be sold in their countries.

BDS, standing for "Boycott, Divestment and  Sanctions",  is at the forefront of this law. It also includes pulling all investments from Israel, in stock, bank deposits, and other financial forms. Sanctions prohibiting purchase of Israeli-produced goods continues to be pushed and accepted in these anti-Semitic nations. All of this is under the guise of supporting a "Palestinian State", or "Palestine".

One way we can combat this, as supporters of Israel, is to buy Israeli goods, directly from the Israeli merchants. Many have a website for that purpose.

We have shown our support for our Israeli friends by purchasing online, and in person when in the land itself, where these goods are produced and sold by our friends. We urge you to do the same.

Bless Israel,

Christians who deeply move Israelis | Tsvi Sadan ISRAEL TODAY

Christians who deeply move Israelis

Monday, December 07, 2015 |  Tsvi Sadan  ISRAEL TODAY
The speech of Pastor Victor Styrsky, given on Holocaust Remembrance Day last month, is now surfacing on Israeli social media and is touching the hearts of many.
Styrsky spoke on behalf of Christians United for Israel (CUFI), founded by John Hagee in 2006. CUFI claims 2.5 million members across the United States is probably the most active and vocal pro-Israel Christian organization in the world today. CUFI's unambiguous commitment to Israel stands in sharp contrast to the growing number of Christians whose attitude towards Israel is increasingly crossing the line between criticism and anti-Semitism.
CUFI affirms, what up until a decade or so ago, was considered a mainstream Protestant position on Israel. "The Jewish people," says CUFI, "have a right to live in their ancient land of Israel, and that the modern State of Israel is the fulfillment of this historic right." CUFI also reaffirms, what was the Christian norm up until a few years ago, that "there is no excuse for acts of terrorism against Israel." CUFI goes further than just pro-Israel theological statements. It pledges "to stand with our brothers and sisters in Israel and to speak out on their behalf whenever and wherever necessary until the attacks stop and they are finally living in peace and security with their neighbors."
During his emotional speech, moved to tears himself, Styrsky compared Christians identifying with and participating in BDS type of activities (Boycott Divestment and Sanctions) to WWII European Christians who remained untouched by the suffering of the Jewish people. In the wake of "Kristal Nacht", he reminded listeners, the Nazis made three decisions concerning the violence and destruction of that night: The Jews will be held responsible for the pogrom, Insurance compensations owed to Jews will be confiscated by the state and the Jewish community will be forced to pay a heavy fine of billions of Deutsch Marks for instigating "Kristal Nacht." A similar decision was made by the European Union 77 years after that event, when Israel is being blamed for "Palestinian pogroms" and the Jewish nation should be financially penalized for instigating the unrest by boycotting Israeli goods.
"Certain Christians," he said, "are joining the demand to boycott Jewish products. These Christians," he continued, "are the direct ideological decedents of yesterday's Christians whose voices were silence and their doors closed to the plight of the Jews during the Holocaust." Denouncing these types of Christians he went on to promise that CUFI's constituency will do their utmost to help build Israel's future together with the Jews.
Responses to this video went from "Wow. Awesome" to "hair-raising … there is still love in this world … brother Victor … allow me to wash your hands."

Scarlett Johansson Scandal Likely Boosting SodaStream Sales - Israel Today

Scarlett Johansson Scandal Likely Boosting SodaStream Sales

Sunday, February 02, 2014 |  Israel Today Staff
If the reaction of Canadian Employment Minister Jason Kenney is anything to go by, the negative reaction of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement to Scarlett Johansson's signing to represent Israeli soda-maker SodaStream is likely to actually boost sales for the company.
A major mover in the BDS movement is international aid organization Oxfam, for which Johansson was an active ambassador. However, the actress terminated her relationship with Oxfam over its own criticism of the her deal with SodaStream, prompting Kenney to posted to Twitter that he is keen to start buying SodaStream's products.
In an interview on Canada's Sun News, Kenney acknowledged that he used to be a supporter of Oxfam, but no more.
"I've given money to Oxfam in the past because I thought they were there to help poor people, not to marginalize Israelis and make Palestinians unemployed," the minister told his host, adding that he is now "dropping Oxfam and becoming a customer of SodaStream, thanks to all the nutters at Oxfam who are marginalizing Palestinians."
It has been widely pointed out that Israeli companies like SodaStream provide thousands of Palestinians with good paying jobs that they would be unable to find otherwise, thanks to the Palestinian Authority's gross mismanagement of billions of dollars in financial aid over the past decade.
Johansson herself even pointed out that fact when she suggested Oxfam's misguided criticism would only serve to put hundreds of Palestinian employees of SodaStream out of work.
In his post to Twitter, Kenney, who visited Israel last month with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, tagged his remark with the term "buycott," which is used by those working to reverse the anti-Israel boycotts by convincing people to buy Israeli-made products.
Israel Today is pleased to host a "buycott" page of our own, featuring a video interview with several Palestinian employees of SodaStream, and plenty of Israeli-made products for your consideration. CHECK IT OUT NOW >>
