ONE FOR ISRAEL - Nov. 14, 2016

Shalom!

We have the greatest hope of all - a hope that is solid, steadfast and certain. We are citizens of God's Kingdom, and sons and daughters of the Most High God! He is continuing to unfold his plans and fulfill his word in our days, but he is not too busy to bend down and hear our prayers.

WHAT ESTHER TEACHES US ABOUT GOOD LEADERSHIP

The book of Esther is a brilliant story with twists and turns of intrigue, disaster and breakthrough. The key figures of power make an interesting study, but of course, it is the One behind the scenes who is really holding all the cards! Continue reading...

"HINENI": HERE I AM. SEND ME!
The late Leonard Cohen, great Jewish singer and songwriter, used this powerful Hebrew word, "Hineni" in one of his songs. He was a man who wrestled with God and sought the truth, but opened his heart with this cry of "Hineni". What does it mean? Continue reading...

SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND

Many are searching and thirsty for the truth, and we try to make sure that the truth about the Messiah is easily available for everyone to find online, and in the language and culture of Israel. Many are coming to faith in this way. Moti recently had received messages from an Ultra Orthodox Jewish man in his forties who has been finding out about Yeshua - please pray for him!

Moti asked,
"Have you read the New Testament?"
- "I am studying it in secret."
"What do you think about Yeshua?"
- "My friends don't know..."
"What do you think about what Yeshua has done?"
- "Yeshua our Lord, our teacher and rabbi - King Messiah for ever and ever!"
"Hallelujah!"

ONLINE STUDIES FOR ISRAELIS TOO!

The semester at Israel College of the Bible is in full swing, with Israeli students coming from all over the country to study with us. You may know that we have online courses in English, but did you know that we also have courses in Hebrew, to enable Israeli students to get the qualifications they need even if theyworking full time, or live far away? They can study:
  • Old Testament Survey
  • New Testament Survey
  • Wisdom Literature
  • Biblical Theology
  • Jewish / Christian Relations Throughout History
  • Issues in Jewish Apologetics
  • Biblical Leadership

We are also working on a new course in Planting and Developing Congregations.
This will be the first academic course about church development taught by a local pastor, Meno Kalisher, who has completed his MA studies at Israel College of the Bible. The course is based on his personal experience of developing one of the strongest Messianic congregations in Israel.

We are getting ready to offer eight online Hebrew courses to students outside of Israel College of the Bible. Taken all together, these courses will grant a certificate in Messianic Service. This enables those who are in full time ministry and serve at their congregations and don't have time to travel and spend a day on campus, to get their qualifications completely online.

PLEASE PRAY FOR...

Three of our staff team are currently attending the Evangelical Theological Society conference, held in San Antonio Texas, to present scholarly papers on topics related to the Jewish roots of our faith and Jewish evangelism. They will also have a booth in the exhibit to represent Israel College of the Bible. Please pray they are able to be a blessing to the attendees there.

Standing With Israel
At the new Friends of Zion Museum in Israel, visitors complete their tour by watching a 3-D film featuring the heroic stories of Christians such as Corrie ten Boom, Oskar Schindler, Raoul Wallenberg and others who helped save the lives of tens of thousands of Jews during World War II.
After watching the film, each visitor is challenged to make the biblical commitment of "Hineni"—a Hebrew word meaning "Here am I"—to defend God's chosen people. At a time when Israel faces a host of serious threats—the push for a United Nations' vote to create the Palestinian state, the dangerous Iranian nuclear deal and worsening anti-Semitism—it's critical for the church to follow the biblical mandate to stand with Israel by declaring, "Here am I."
Today, a spiritual hunger exists among the Jewish people, and many of them are increasingly open to the possibility that Yeshua, or Jesus, is the Messiah. A recent Pew Research Center survey revealed more than a third of American Jews are of the opinion that believing Yeshua is the Messiah is compatible with being Jewish.
At the same time, millions of Jews are returning to their ancient homeland and more than half now live in Israel. Many biblical scholars view this as a fulfillment of Ezekiel 36:24: "For I will take you among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land."  Today, many believe God is doing something extraordinary and new among the Jewish people. Sid Roth, host of It's Supernatural!, believes the restoration of the Jewish people to their Messiah will be the catalyst to release the greatest Gentile revival in history. "When these Jewish people come to the Messiah, it will be the devil's worst nightmare," Roth says. "These Jewish people are going to turn the world upside down." This is one of the reasons why America and the church need to stand with Israel. It's time for the world to hear the voice of faith leaders, pastors and believers expressing their rock-solid support for Israel. Preach a sermon. Call your congressional representative. Write a letter to the editor. Israel is in crisis and needs our help.
Earlier this summer, President Obama raised the possibility that the United States would allow a U.N. vote on the creation of the Palestinian state if the Israelis and the Palestinians don't make meaningful movement toward peace. Many faith leaders have expressed alarm, saying the proposal could bring "a curse on our country." Liberty Counsel Founder Mat Staver noted that no nation that has opposed Israel or taken the land of the Jews has survived. "Babylon, Persia, Rome and Nazi Germany have all ceased, but Israel and the Jewish people remain," Staver says.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the nuclear agreement with Iran as a "historic mistake" threatening Israel and the U.S. The danger is greater than many people realize. Iranian leaders believe the end of days has arrived and their messiah, the "Twelfth Imam," is coming to reign over the world. They believe they need nuclear weapons to destroy  not only Israel, which they call "the little Satan," but also the U.S., the "great Satan."
Despite America's changing foreign policies, the good news is that U.S. evangelicals remain Israel's strongest supporters. A LifeWay Research poll found 80 percent of senior pastors agree Christians should support Israel.
America exemplifies how God can bless a nation that stands by Israel. While the U.S. doesn't have a perfect record, it helped defeat the Nazis in World War II and until recently has been Israel's staunch ally. It would be foolish for the U.S. to turn its back on Israel, especially in light of God's warning in Genesis 12:3: "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse ... ."
After 2,000 years of persecution—the Crusades, the Inquisition and the Holocaust—the shofar needs to be heard from every church and synagogue in the land, warning of the dangers facing the Jews.
Today, Christians have an opportunity to share the Good News. As Roth notes, the "spiritual blindness judgment" is ending and Jewish people are open to the gospel for the first time in nearly 2,000 years. "I see the greatest awakening in history on the horizon," Roth says. "Will you put your faith on the line with my faith?"
We must do our part. Israel's survival is at stake. Just as ten Boom, Schindler, Wallenberg and many others risked their lives and careers to protect the Jews during World War II, we must do the same now—declaring to the world: "Here am I."

Together for Israel - Scott Volk

Scott Volk was born on January 4, 1965 in Brooklyn, New York.
His father, Shelly, along with his mother, June, were successful
American Jews enjoying an upper-middle-class lifestyle when
Jesus radically transformed their lives in the early 1970′s you can
read their riveting testimony in June Volk’s book
The God Who Answers By Fire: A Jewish Saga).

It was in the summer of 1975, while the Volk family was visiting
Art Katz’s community in Northern Minnesota, that Scott
gave his life to the God of Israel, recognizing Jesus as the
Messiah of Israel and the savior of the world. One year later, the
Volks moved to Northern Minnesota and served with Art in
what was to be a life-long relationship until Art went home to
be with the Lord in 2007.

After graduating high school in 1982, Scott completed two years of
study at Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas, and then transferred
to North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he
received his bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Studies. Upon graduating in
1988, he married Beth and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where he
served on the pastoral staff of a church until 1996. It was late in that
year when Dr. Michael Brown (www.askdrbrown.org) invited Scott
to join him in Pensacola, Florida, to serve as personal assistant to him
and help with the administrative details of his growing ministry.

From 1997-2005, Scott had the privilege of serving in ministry with
Dr. Brown as they traveled together around the world in all sorts of
ministry settings. When the ministry that Dr. Brown birthed moved to
Charlotte, North Carolina, a church was planted and Scott was
asked to serve as the lead pastor of FIRE Church. He remained in
that position until September of 2012, when he stepped down to
dedicate himself to seeing Hineni expand into all that the Lord
has destined it to be.

A DEFINING MOMENT

Although a Jewish believer in Jesus since age 10, Scott rarely
identified with his Jewish roots or the Messianic culture; he actually
felt more comfortable and at home in ‘church’ settings. After completing
a tour which he leads annually to Israel, Scott was returning home on
his trans-Atlantic flight when the unexpected happened:

“It was in June of 2010 while on a flight home from Israel that the
Lord did a remarkable and most-unexpected work in my life. It was
as if everything that I’ve heard from my childhood about Israel and
God’s burden for that land and its people, went from my head to
my heart. I felt at that moment as if God, Himself, gave me
revelation as to the calling that He had on my life with regard to the
lost sheep of the house of Israel. Before this time, I’m ashamed to
say that Israel was barely on my grid. In a nondescript and totally
unexpected moment, I feel as if my life was radically changed. I now
feel as if I’ve been born again again.”

As a result of that momentous flight, doors are miraculously opening
for Scott to express this message to churches, bible studies, and
conferences around the globe.

ARAB AND JEW – ULTIMATE RECONCILIATION

Another amazing aspect of Scott’s story is that his family is a living
demonstration of the one new man message. Scott, a full-blooded
Jew, and Beth, a full-blooded Arab (grandparents from both sides
from Lebanon), have been happily married for over 23 years and
have five beautiful children.

“I think it’s amazing that my kids have a little bit of Ishmael and a
little bit of Isaac inside of them all. I’m foolish enough to believe
that somehow, through the simple message of our family being truly
united, that we can bring an empowering message of hope and
reconciliation to the seemingly hopeless situation that faces many of
our Arab and Jewish brothers in the world today. The Messiah’s
prayer in John 17 indicates that the world would know that He was
sent from the Father when those that believe in Him are one. The
greatest evangelistic tool that we have today is the unity of the Spirit
and it’s my prayer and desire to contend for that unity wherever I
am privileged to go.”

The Volks reside in Charlotte, North Carolina along with their 5
children Alysa, Jonathan, Joseph, Emily, and Olivia.
