100 Years since Hanukkah Miracle, Christmas Present of Jerusalem
12-15-2017

JERUSALEM, Israel  A Hanukkah miracle and a Christmas present. That’s what Jews and Christians called the 1917 British conquest of Jerusalem.
Just a week after President Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, thousands of Israelis and others gathered at the Jaffa Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City and outside the nearby Tower of David Museum to mark the 100th anniversary of that historic day.

“Two weeks before Christmas and on the first day of Hanukkah the British Imperial Army entered Jerusalem under the command of General Edmund Allenby. A new chapter was beginning in the history of Jerusalem,” Israeli linguist and TV show host Avshalom Kor told the crowd.

The British conquest of Jerusalem was a turning point for the British forces and marked the end of 400 years of Ottoman Turkish rule.  It was also the first time in 700 years that Christians ruled the city.

The celebration on December 11, 2017 included a re-enactment of General Allenby’s famous entrance into the city on foot and a reading of his proclamation in multiple languages from the steps of what is now the Tower of David Museum.

Henry Allenby, who inherited General Allenby’s title of fourth Viscount of Megiddo, read Allenby’s proclamation in English on the steps where the general read it 100 years earlier to the day.

“Every sacred building, monument, holy spot, shrine, traditional site, endowment, customary place of prayer of whatsoever form of these three religions [Judaism, Christianity, Islam] will be maintained and protected according to the existing customs and beliefs to those whose faiths they are sacred,” Allenby read.

Jerusalem’s current mayor Nir Barkat praised Allenby.

“General Allenby, he was a great military man who conquered the land of Israel but in addition to his military strength, he was also a distinguished thinker and understood our city, Jerusalem, and its role in the world,” Barkat told the crowd.

The anniversary celebration also welcomed a new exhibit at the Tower of David Museum, which includes the white flag of surrender and the keys to the city of Jerusalem handed over to the British.

“Today is 100 years since the entrance of General Allenby to Jaffa Gate on foot changing the world, changing Jerusalem,” said Eilat Lieber, director of the Tower of David.
“It was a moment of hope for the people of Jerusalem who suffered so much from the war, from hunger. They waited for the change,” Lieber told CBN News.

“This wasn’t about demanding surrender of Jerusalem. That’s why he got off the horse,” Allenby told CBN News. “He wanted to show humility. He wanted to show a respect for the inhabitants of this city. He wanted to show respect for the three great faiths of this city.”

Allenby, who was visiting Jerusalem for the first time, said he had been “massively welcomed” to the city. “It’s just been a whirlwind of a mind-blowing experience.”

The great grandson of Maj-Gen. John Shea, who accepted the surrender of the Turks in 1917, also joined the celebration.

“We’ve always known about the story of Jimmy of Jerusalem, as my great grandfather was known by his troops,” John Benson told CBN News.  “But to be here on the 100th anniversary of the surrender and Allenby’s entry into Jerusalem is very proud making and also very humbling.”

An important aspect of the victory was Allenby’s faith.

“General Allenby was a devout believer in Yeshua and he knew his scriptures extremely well, including the prophecies of Jerusalem and when the Lord gave him the prophecy of Isaiah 31:5,” said Ken Thomson from Canada, whose grandfather helped conquer the city under Allenby.
The scripture in Isaiah 31:5 says, “Like birds flying about, so will the Lord of Hosts defend Jerusalem. Defending, He will also deliver it; passing over, He will preserve it.”
“And he was given the idea of using airplanes flying over and dropping leaflets that said leave the city now,” Thomson told CBN News.  “And that’s why he was able to take it out without destruction as the prophecy said.  Without firing one gunshot, he walked into the city.”
Thomson said he was touched by the fact that Allenby was a believer and knew the scriptures. “And my grandfather got to be there, was there with that, was part of history.”
At the end of the ceremony on Monday, the actor playing General Allenby said it was time to return something he had received at the surrender of the city 100 years earlier.

“A hundred years ago, I stood here and I received the key to this wonderful city and I think that a hundred years later it’s about time that I return it,”  ‘General Allenby’ said.

“So, it’s a little bit rusty but keep it, watch it, it’s the only copy so you can lock [the city] in the evening time. Thank you so much Mr. Mayor,” he said.

A Tale of Two Nations - Charles Gardner ISRAEL TODAY

A Tale of Two Nations

Thursday, January 05, 2017 |  Charles Gardner  ISRAEL TODAY
The effect of the shameful anti-Israel resolution at the UN has, it seems, been quite literally earthshaking.
reported last week on how, after Britain voted for the motion, a leading UK journalist accused our government of anti-Semitism in an open letter to Prime Minister Theresa May.
Now I learn from New Zealand friends that the November 14 earthquake – one of the most powerful ever to strike the Pacific nation – came just minutes after a closed meeting at which a draft of the resolution was allegedly discussed between U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Prime Minister John Key.[1]
The Obama administration is widely believed to have been behind the motion, which condemned all Israeli settlement activity as illegal and even delegitimized Jewish claims to Jerusalem’s Old City, which has an unbroken link to Judaism over thousands of years.
And we know that it was New Zealand who co-sponsored the resolution (with Senegal), which saw 14 out of the 15 Security Council members vote in favour, with the U.S. abstaining rather than casting its veto as it usually does on issues relating to borders, thereby giving it added credence.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu called for ambassadors of those countries voting in favour to be reprimanded, and called home envoys to the sponsoring states. And it seems that the Judge of all the earth has sent tremors to the proposers as a warning to those who would touch the ‘apple of his eye’ or divide up his land (Zechariah 2.8, Joel 3.2).
My friend described it as ‘Genesis 12.3 in action’ – the Bible verse reading: “I will bless those who bless you (the seed of Abraham), and whoever curses you I will curse…”
Another friend, from north of Auckland, pointed out that New Zealand were given the “ignominious honour” of fronting the resolution when Egypt (once an enemy of Israel) stepped back from doing so. The Bible does teach that, in the last days, Egypt will become a friend of Israel (see Isaiah 19).[2]
The resolution effectively legitimizes the Palestinian narrative that Israel has no entitlement to land that is historically theirs – the same line taken by the butchers of Islamic State and similar terror groups who have caused such mayhem over Christmas in Cairo, Berlin and Istanbul.
Israel’s Education Minister Naftali Bennett issued a defiant response to the UN action from a snowy Mt Hermon in the Golan Heights: “Five minutes from here, the Syrian government and ISIS have butchered over half-a-million men, women and children. The UN resolution suggests that this is occupied territory and should be handed over to those enemies… You have Israel thriving and a terror state five minutes from here in an abyss of murder. We will prevail.”[3]
Christians in Egypt, meanwhile, have followed their Saviour’s example by responding to the bombing of a Cairo church, which left 25 dead, with forgiveness for the perpetrators.
Arabic TV host Mona Roman is quoted as saying: “We had a lot of phone calls from Muslims saying, ‘We are killing you; we are destroying your churches, and you are saying we forgive you, we are praying for you.’ In fact, two Muslim men called in after the attack to give their lives to Christ. They said, ‘All that we see from you is love and forgiveness. You never answer us with explosions or weapons or hate speech. You are very strong people in love. We are the ones who are weak.’”
Witnesses said that, when the bomb went off, the priest was presiding over communion, repeating the words of Jesus, ‘This is my body, broken for you’. The women (separated from the men in the Coptic Church) were standing with arms lifted in worship of Jesus when, a moment later, they would have been standing in front of Him in heaven.[4]

  1. This quake, of a 7.8 magnitude causing extensive structural damage, struck just after midnight on November 14 near Christchurch, which suffered a devastating tremor five years ago. Just a week later, a second quake struck central New Zealand, with the epicenter some 200km north-east of Wellington, the capital. Although this measured 5.6 on the Richter scale, my sister Penny, who lives over 100 miles away on the west coast, felt the earth shaking – a truly frightening experience.  ↩
  2. To be fair, many New Zealanders have protested their country’s role in this debacle and the nation has become a favourite destination for young Israeli tourists.  ↩

Female Cop Seriously Hurt in Terror Stabbing - Israel Today

Female Cop Seriously Hurt in Terror Stabbing

Monday, September 19, 2016 |  Israel Today Staff
A young female police officer was seriously wounded on Monday when a Palestinian Arab terrorist stabbed her in the neck just outside Jerusalem’s Old City.
The 20-year-old victim was stationed at Herod’s Gate when the terrorist snuck up behind her and began stabbing. An older male police officer was also stabbed, but managed to open fire on the terrorist and critically wounded him.
Additional forces were called in to secure the area. Israeli officials are increasingly concerned over the fresh wave of terrorist stabbings with the autumn biblical festivals just weeks away.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday evening convened an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss increased security measures during Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot.
As part of efforts to reduce tensions, Netanyahu ordered Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein to continue to prevent Jewish government ministers and members of Knesset from ascending the Temple Mount.

Israel Slams American Network's 'Unprecedented Chutzpah' | Israel Today Staff

Israel Slams American Network's 'Unprecedented Chutzpah'

Thursday, February 04, 2016 |  Israel Today Staff
Topics:
Media Bias
The mainstream international media on Wednesday again demonstrated its outrageous bias against Israel in reporting on the terrorist attack near the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City.
The culprit this time around was the American television network CBS, whose news website headlined its report of the incident “3 Palestinians killed as daily violence grinds on”.
It’s fairly simple to ascertain the goal of such an elusive headline.
The initial impression most readers would get is that the three Palestinians in question were the victims. And since so many news consumers these days merely scan headlines, they would have walked away believing that.
The problem is that the Palestinians were in fact the perpetrators.
An online outcry resulted in CBS later changing the headline to “Israeli police kill 3 alleged Palestinian attackers”. It was subsequently altered again to “Palestinians kill Israeli officer, wound another before being killed”.
At no point did CBS publicly apologize or clarify its change.
Israeli media officials called for all Israelis to denounce CBS’s blatant bias as loudly as possible, while Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon called the fraudulent headline “unprecedented chutzpah.”
This debacle has provided an opportunity to again highlight why it is so important to find a reliable source of news from Israel.
The news must be read with a critical eye, knowing that important elements were probably omitted, perhaps purposefully so. Our mission at Israel Today is to fill in those gaps, to provide the stories and angles that the mainstream media left out so that you can form a more complete and clear picture of what is really happening in the Holy Land.

Israeli Border Police officer Hadar Cohen, 19, was sworn in to her mandatory national service just two months ago. On Wednesday, she met an untimely demise while confronting three armed terrorists in Jerusalem.
The attack occurred near the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City, where Cohen and another young female Border Police officer spotted a trio of Palestinian Arabs behaving suspiciously.
Cohen and her comrade demanded to see their identification, but instead the Palestinians pulled out knives and guns.
Eyewitness accounts stated that Cohen, despite being so young and inexperienced, managed to return fire before being fatally shot and stabbed. The other officer suffered serious injuries, but is currently in stable condition.
Additional police forces that arrived at the scene and killed two of the three attackers discovered two guns, several knives and pipe bombs on the bodies of the terrorists.
In other words, they were planning a much grander, more coordinated attack, and were ultimately foiled by Cohen and her partner.
Israeli security officials called the incident a “turning point” in the current wave of violence, that until now has consisted primarily of “lone wolf” terrorists spontaneously deciding to attack Israelis.

Torah Scroll Being Written to Present to Messiah Upon His Arrival By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz - BREAKING ISRAEL NEWS

Torah Scroll Being Written to Present to Messiah Upon His Arrival

“Now it will come about that In the last days the mountain of the house of the Lord will be established as the chief of the mountains, And will be raised above the hills; And all the nations will stream to it. And many peoples will come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths.’ For the Torah will go forth from Zion And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 2:2-3)
Rabbi Yosef Berger, one of the rabbis in charge of King David’s Tomb in Jerusalem’s Old City, has been dreaming of a project for over a year – one Torah scroll to unify all of Israel.
Recent global events have forced Rabbi Berger to move ahead quickly with his dream as he wants to be able to personally present this Torah as a gift to the Messiah. Many prominent rabbis and Kabbalists have told Rabbi Berger that may be very soon indeed.
The inspiration for the project came from the Book of Hosea (3:4-5), in which it is written:
“For the sons of Israel will remain for many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar and without ephod (a sleeveless garment worn by Jewish priests) or household idols. Afterward the sons of Israel will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king; and they will come trembling to the Lord and to His goodness in the last days (before Messiah).”
Rabbi Berger explained to Breaking Israel News what this prophecy had a personal meaning for him.
“In the end of days, when Israel realizes that all hope is lost and they have no solution or salvation from their plight, the people of Israel will be wise enough to seek the three things which our ancestors despised: the Kingdom of Heaven, the Kingdom of David, and the building of the Temple,” he said.
“It is taught in the Yalkut Shimoni (a collection believed to have been arranged in the 13th century) Samuel 1: 106, ‘Rabbi Shimon Ben Monsia said, “No signs of redemption will be shown to Israel until they seek these three things – the kingdom of heaven , the dynasty of King David, and the building of the Temple.”’”
Rabbi Berger believes that by bringing all of Israel together in the writing of a single Torah scroll housed on Mount Zion, where King David is interred, and adjacent to the Temple mount, he will accomplish all three goals in one action.

Rabbi David Hai Abuhatzeira was honored with writing the first letter of the Torah. Rabbi Abuhatzeira is the grandson of the prominent Moroccan Sephardic mystic Rabbi Israel Abuhatzeira, known as the Baba Sali, renowned for his ability to work miracles through his prayers.
For Kabbalistic reasons which he refused to reveal, Rabbi Abuhatzeira chose to write the Hebrew letter ‘yud’, rather than the first letter, which is a ‘bet’. Rabbi Abuhatzeira urgently instructed the organizers of the project, “Write the Sefer Torah as fast as possible, you don’t have much time!…I hope you have a chance (to finish)!”
“The Messiah will also take part in the process,” Rabbi Abuhatzeira explained. “The nation of Israel will give him this Torah as a gift, as it is written “Whither kings shall bring presents unto Thee” (Psalms 68:29) and “Bring presents unto Him that is to be feared” (Psalms 76:11).”

According to Rabbi Berger, Rabbi Abuhatzeira added that the combined numerologies of the phrases “This year we will merit seeing him” (השנה נזכה לראות אותו) and “The arrival of the Messiah” (ביאת המשי), add up to 5776, the current year according to the Jewish calendar.
Hundreds of letters have already been written in the Torah scroll. Jewish tradition teaches that a Torah scroll contains 600,000 letters, equal to the number of Jews who received the Torah at Mount Sinai.  However, the actual number of letters in a Torah is 304,805, leaving many more opportunities for people to be included in the Klal Yisrael project.
Rabbi Berger realizes that preparing a gift for the Messiah is not a normal type of charity, and his expectations are unique. “Even if someone gives me a million dollars to write many Torahs, it isn’t what I want. I want all of Israel individually to have a part in this Torah,” he explained to Breaking Israel News.
When the Torah is completed, Rabbi Berger plans on having a parade through Jerusalem to dedicate it. The parade will go through every corner of the city in order to include as many people as possible and will finish at the Tomb of King David, where the Torah scroll will be kept.
“We want it to be such a wonderful event that all of Israel will be praising God and asking for him to come and redeem us.”
