King Hezekiah, Prophet Isaiah Debut in Oklahoma
06-28-2018
CBN News Julie Stahl,
JERUSALEM, Israel – King Hezekiah and the Prophet Isaiah worked together in biblical times and
now thanks to archaeology, they're together again…in Oklahoma of all places!

Personal seal impressions that likely belonged to the two men are on display together for the first time.
A simulcast linking Jerusalem with Oklahoma's Armstrong Auditorium marked the debut.

"This is a celebration day for all our friends and especially for the lovers of Israel and the Bible,"
Archaeologist Dr. Eilat Mazar told participants in both Jerusalem and Oklahoma during the opening
of the exhibit.

Mazar helped uncover the artifacts in 2009.

"This is one of the bullae that we found," Mazar said pointing to a large poster of the artifact. "It's a
seal impression, very tiny, as large as you can see it now but this is all of one centimeter [less than
half an inch] in diameter, even not the nail on my finger."

Workers uncovered both items just a few feet apart at the foot of the Temple Mount, just outside the
present-day walls of Jerusalem's Old City. Historically that area has been called the "Ophel" meaning
"a high place to climb to."

King Hezekiah, considered one of Judea's greatest leaders, and the Prophet Isaiah lived some 2,700
years ago.

"When people wanted at that time, biblical times, to seal a document, they tied the document with
a string and then they took a little tiny mud and pushed their private seal to the soft mud and made
[a] seal impression. You could read their names," Mazar told CBN News.

Hezekiah's reads, "Belonging to Hezekiah, [son of] Ahaz, King of Judah."

"To find such a private item, that relates to one of the Judean kings, I believe we've reached kind of
a peak in that matter. We came so close to that kind of figure," Mazar said.

Isaiah's isn't as clear. It reads: "Belonging to Isaiah"… but the second word is missing a letter that
could complete the Hebrew word for "prophet."

Exhibit Curator Brad McDonald, from the Armstrong International Foundation, said it sends a message
when artifacts back up the Bible.

"Whenever you find discoveries like this, actual physical items that people can touch and they have
inscribed on them the names of biblical figures, it's always powerful. This is science proving the
Bible," McDonald told CBN News.

Mazar's grandfather Benjamin Mazar, led the first excavation after the 1967 Six-Day War that

"My grandfather excavated 10 continuous years without stopping," Mazar said. "This was a fantastic
project – almost no parallel in dimensions. Hundreds of people worked. They revealed fantastic remains
of ancient Jerusalem from all periods."

Stephen Flurry, vice president of the Armstrong International Foundation and president of the
Herbert W. Armstrong College in Edmond, Oklahoma, where the exhibit opened, said the foundation
has been working with the Mazar family for decades.

"We've had a partnership with Dr. Eilat Mazar since 2006, but our relationship with the Mazar family
actually goes back to 1968 when her grandfather worked with the name sake of our college, Herbert
W. Armstrong," Flurry told CBN News.

"Since that time we've sent students to volunteer on the excavations, and we've also provided funding
for some of her work," Flurry said.

Dr. Michael Oren, Israel's minister of diplomacy calls Eilat Mazar "a hero."

Dr. Michael Oren, Photo, CBN News, Jonathan Goff

"She's fought for Israel's future by fighting for its past in the face of a lot of naysayers and particularly
people in the world today who deny a historical connection between Israel and the city of Jerusalem,
people who deny there ever was a King David or King Hezekiah or a Prophet Isaiah," Oren told
CBN News.

"Eilat digs down and she finds it and she proves them all wrong," Oren said.

Ten years ago, while digging in the City of David, Mazar believed she discovered King David's palace.

"It's monumentality is obvious. Everybody can see," Mazar said at the time.

"Also its date - [it has] been constructed sometime around 1,000 BC, the time of King David in
general based on the pottery that we found underneath and within. These facts brought us to
understand that we have got [a] fantastic monumental construction," she said.

While many archaeologists dismiss the Bible, Mazar maintains it to be an "important historical source."

"The biblical stories and the New Testament stories by the way, it goes together because [it] just
prove[s] quite accurately the development of Jerusalem and the way Jerusalem is described is quite
accurate," Mazar said.

The Oklahoma exhibit provides other artifacts, including a life-size replica of Hezekiah's underground
water tunnel. It's open to the public through mid-August.

Oren believes the significance of these pieces go way beyond science.

"Archaeology is not just about revealing the past. Archaeology is about securing our present.
Archaeology is about ensuring our future. Archaeology is about richness; it's about rootedness; and
as Eilat Mazar will tell you, it's about truth," Oren told participants at the exhibit's opening.

Why the Church Must Respond to Isaiah's Prophetic Call in This Hour - RON ALLEN

August 21, we will see another solar eclipse. (Pexels)

Why the Church Must Respond to Isaiah's Prophetic Call in This Hour

Thanks to a nice bit of search by Fredrick Baltz, reported in the July/August 2017 issue of Biblical Archeology Review, an important ancient solar eclipse has been brought to light.
The year was 702 B.C. The Assyrian Empire has destroyed the Northern Kingdom of Israel some 20 years before and now was setting its sights on Hezekiah's kingdom of Judah. Then, with the Assyrian threat hanging over his head, King Hezekiah became deathly ill. The prophet Isaiah told him to put his house in order, for he was going to die. But, the king cried out to the Lord, and the Lord sent Isaiah back to the king.
Through Isaiah, God told Hezekiah that He had heard his prayer and would give him is more years of life. Even more, God promised to save Jerusalem from the Assyrians. As a sign, God made the sunlight move backwards on the stairway of Ahaz. Scholars have puzzled over the backwards movement of sunlight, but Fredrick Baltz has shown that the apparent backwards movement of sunlight and shade occurs during solar eclipses. Such an eclipse crossed over the Middle East on March 5, 702 B.C. Later that year there was an eclipse on the first day of the Hebrew repentance season of Teshuvah, inviting the nation to return to God.
Hezekiah's healing apparently emboldened him to stand against the Assyrian army the next year, and as He had promised, God destroyed the Assyrian army surrounding Jerusalem. However, the Bible tells us that Hezekiah became proud (2 Chron. 32:25). He bragged about his wealth to the Babylonians and was rebuked by the prophet Isaiah but was content to avoid disaster in his own lifetime rather than seek revival to save in Israel. Then during the 15 years of life God gave him, he had a son, an heir, but did not train him up in the ways of the Lord. It was his son Manasseh who became the most wicked king of Judah and led the people into the rebellion against God which culminated in the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple by the Babylonians.
Now in 2017, on August 21, God is sending us another Teshuvah eclipse and another chance to repent and return to Him. Like Hezekiah, we have received prophetic words to put our house in order. We have been called to cry out to God as Hezekiah did, and we pray for deliverance. But we must not stop short as Hezekiah did, being content to see peace only in our own lifetime. No, we must ask for nothing less than revival and train up the next generation to carry it forward.
We are asking the church to humble itself and seek God's face, as Hezekiah did, during the 40 days of Teshuvah 2017 which begins with the solar eclipse spanning America on August 21. For more information see our recently released book Teshuvah Eclipses or our website at Teshuvah2017.com.
The time is short, and the enemy is at the gate. Join us in praying for revival, unity of the church and healing of our land.

Archaeologists: King Hezekiah Really Did Destroy Idols

Israeli archaeologists believe they have evidence that the biblical King Hezekiah did indeed destroy the high places and idols in the land of Israel as described in the Bible, evidence officials say highlights Israel's past connection to the land and helps draw the country's boundaries today.
Calling it "an important and unusual discovery," the Israel Antiquities Authority said excavations in the Tel Lachish National Park in central Israel revealed a "gate-shrine" from the First Temple period, about the 8th century B.C. It's the largest known gate from the First Temple period in the country.
The Bible says King Hezekiah "removed the high places, broke down the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherah poles." (2 Kings 18:4).
"The size of the gate is consistent with the historical and archaeological knowledge we possess, whereby Lachish was a major city and the most important one after Jerusalem," excavation director Sa'ar Ganor said.
According to the biblical narrative, everything took place at the city gates where the elders, judges, governors, kings and officials sat on benches.
"These benches were found in our excavation," Ganor said.
The IAA conducted the excavation from January through March at the initiative of the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage in cooperation with the Nature and Parks Authority. The excavation completely exposed the gate, which was partially uncovered in a joint Tel Aviv University, British excavation decades ago. The plan is to develop the Tel Lachish National Park.
The 80-by-80-foot Lachish city gate is preserved to a height of 16 feet. It consists of six chambers—three on each side, with the city's main street passing between them.
Artifacts Reveal Details
Artifacts discovered in its rooms give clues as to how they were used 2,800 years ago. Benches with armrests were in the first chamber. At the foot of the benches were many finds, including jars, scoops for loading grain and jar handles bearing the name of the official or a seal impression indicating they belonged to the king.
The IAA said the jars seem to relate to the kingdom of Judah's military and administrative preparations for the war against Assyrian King Sennacherib in the late 8th century B.C.
According to Ganor, "A staircase ascended to a large room where there was a bench upon which offerings were placed. An opening was exposed in the corner of the room that led to the holy of holies."
Ganor said they were excited to find two four-horned altars and scores of ceramic finds, including lamps, bowls and stands in the room. He said the horns on the altar had been "intentionally truncated."
"That is probably evidence of the religious reform attributed to King Hezekiah, whereby religious worship was centralized in Jerusalem and the cultic high places that were built outside the capital were destroyed," Ganor said.
Besides cutting off the horns of the altar, apparently Hezekiah had a toilet installed in the "holy of holies" to further signify the abolition of worship and as the "ultimate desecration" of the place.
The "toilet" was a chair-shaped stone with a hole in the middle found in the corner of the room.  It was apparently symbolic, as tests showed it had never been used.
According to the IAA, archaeological research has identified stones like this as toilets. The idea of using a toilet to defile cultic locations is even mentioned in the Bible, as in the case of Jehu when he destroyed the cult of Ba'al (2 Kings 10:27). It's the first time the phenomenon has been confirmed archaeologically.
Israeli officials were excited about the discovery. Minister of Jerusalem and Heritage Ze'ev Elkin said the discovery is an example of how excavations "show us time and time again how biblical tales that are known to us become historical and archaeological stories."
Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev said the discovery deepened Israel's "connection to our ancestors who walked this land."

"The uncovering of these finds joins a long list of discoveries that enlighten us about our historic past, a past that is manifested in our country's soil and in the writings of the Book of Books," Regev said.
"The Bible—the founding book of the Jewish people—draws the country's boundaries and the heritage of the Jewish people that was exiled from its country and returned to its homeland. It boldly commemorates the way of our forefathers, the prophets, the kings and the judges," she said.
Shaul Goldstein, director general of the Nature and Parks Authority, said Tel Lachish is one of the most "quintessential places" that offers "proof of Israel's hold on the its land."
The gate is currently undergoing a conservation process in preparation to open it to visitors.

Today's Israel Inspiration

Righteous King Hezekiah, one of the last kings of Judah during the times of the First Temple, encouraged the nation with the stirring words in this verse. His faith was well-founded, and the next morning, they looked over the walls to see the once powerful Assyrian army devastated and dispersed, all without a fight (II Kings 19:35). May the Almighty continue to protect today's Defenders of Israel, the soldiers of the IDF. They are the world's frontline defense against a nuclear Iran.
