The Hidden Science That Proves Jesus Definitely Died on the Cross

PAUL STRAND/CBN
Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

When atheists find evidence of Jesus' resurrection and become believers, you know there must be more than just faith that it happened. Two of the most famous former atheists came to a recent Truth for a New Generation conference outside this North Carolina city to talk about how they ended up strong defenders of the fact Christ really did rise from the dead.
As a successful cold case detective, J. Warner Wallace became so well known at solving decades-old murders, he ended up as the foremost expert on national TV true crime shows.
But as an atheist, he decided to turn his superior detective skills on disproving the resurrection of Jesus Christ... or even proving it if the evidence should somehow take him there.
He remembered telling himself, "I'm going to have to figure out how to evaluate that for its truthfulness given this skill set that I had as a cold case detective."
CBN News talked to him at this crowded conference where many hundreds gathered to hear Wallace and others tell their stories and learn how their faith in Christ rests on solid evidence.
Tackling Theories Against the Resurrection
For years some doubters clung to one theory that Jesus didn't actually die on the cross but was just nearly dead and revived later.
Wallace points out when you work with dead bodies all the time like he has and people in Christ's time did, you can definitely tell "dead" from "nearly dead."
"As a homicide detective, I'm thinking 'I've seen a lot of dead people, and I know what dead people look like,'" he said, and then talked about something called "the mortis triad."
"That hot blood's going to stop circulating, you're going to cool down. That's called algor mortis," he stated. "You'll be cool to the touch. And we can actually judge time of death based on how cool."
Jesus Really Was Dead
This author of Cold-Case Christianity moved on, saying, "This is something I've seen my entire career: There's the thing called rigor mortis. It's the second of the mortis triad. And you'll see that kind of stiffness. You won't be as flexible as you would be if you were just unconscious."
And Warner finds in the Gospel of John a key point of proof that Jesus wasn't faking it and that He really did die: a line about blood and water coming out of Jesus' body on the cross when a Roman soldier pierced him with a spear.
"Water will collect in your lungs," he explained. "Now if that happens, if you pierce that cavity, you will see a separation of blood and water."
It struck Wallace powerfully that John wrote of this, saying, "He was either so clever that he included some little-known biological fact that nobody would discover for 1800 years or he just reported what he saw. And as a result we have a good piece of hidden science that confirms that Jesus actually died of cardiac arrest and was dead at the point of the body being taken off the cross."
As a young atheist, Josh McDowell set off to write Evidence That Demands a Verdict to show the evidence about Christ, including His resurrection, was so weak, the verdict would be "Not True."
"The resurrection was one of several things I knew I had to refute as a non-believer," McDowell recalled.
How Could He Move? Or Roll Away the Stone?
But instead of refuting, he became so convinced it happened, he spends dozens of pages in Evidence That Demands a Verdict knocking down false theories, like the one suggesting Christ didn't really die but woke up and escaped from the tomb.
"There were a hundred and some pounds of encasement of aromatic spices and gumming of cement consistency around His body, wrapped tightly in three separate linen cloths weighing about 117 pounds," McDowell told CBN News.
He continued, "Christ was encased in that, and it becomes hardened. Second, how would He be able to move in such a state like that a one-and-a-half to two-ton stone away from the entrance?"
Did the Disciples Steal the Body?
As for the theory His disciples stole the body, the Jewish leaders opposed to Jesus were so worried about that exact thing happening, they talked the Romans into putting a massive guard group—as many as 16 soldiers—outside the tomb.
McDowell scoffed, "The impossibility of that! That they could have climbed through there, tiptoed around all the guards and become invisible to the guards in front of the tomb, rolled a one-and-a-half to two-ton stone that in that day that they said 20 men couldn't move it."
Wallace can't accept this was all just a conspiracy, because detectives know those often fall apart when there are too many conspirators and the people involved face real threats if they don't recant.

He pointed out, "And we don't have a single, ancient record of any of the disciples ever recanting, when that was often the goal of the people who were persecuting Christians."
Wallace pointed out courts don't expect the law to prove absolutely no possible doubt. Only no reasonable doubt.
"So is it possible that they conspired for 60 years, at 500 plus people, under immense pressure with not enough family relationships to hold it together?" Wallace asked. "Yeah, it's possible. It's just not reasonable."
Jesus Appeared to All Sorts of People
Debunkers say Jesus in the biblical accounts only showed up to his closest followers, those most likely to lie about His resurrection. But McDowell said the opposite is true.
"He appeared to the Apostle Paul, Saul of Tarsus, who was anything but a follower of Christ. He despised Christ as a false Messiah," McDowell said.
He also pointed out Jesus appeared to James, saying, "You take James, His brother. James was not a follower of Jesus Christ. He was embarrassed by Christ, his brother, going out and doing these things and claiming these things. But James ended up coming to Christ and became a leader of the Jerusalem church."
No Two People—Much Less 500—Have the Same Hallucination
The Bible talks about Christ after His Resurrection showing up before 500 people. Some debunkers say that was likely just a mass hallucination. Neither Wallace or McDowell buy that.
McDowell interviewed five experts and learned, "No two people ever have the same hallucination because there's no external reference to it. It's all internal."
Wallace added, "There's just no history of kind of group hallucinations with the kind of detail that we see in the gospels. So I was never fond of that explanation."
Worshipping Jesus
McDowell stated, "In my research to refute Christianity, I became convinced the Church would never have been founded without the resurrection. Everything that they did pointed back to that."
One huge thing they did: break the Sabbath and worship Jesus as they did it. Remember: all the early believers were fervent Jews who had believed they faced dire danger if they broke the Sabbath.
Alex McFarland—who organized this Truth for a New Generation conference—points out how that changed right after Jesus' resurrection.
"Pious Jews whose very relationship with God is contingent on keeping a Sabbath that they've observed for centuries, suddenly overnight begin to worship on Sunday. Why? Something must have happened. Well, Sunday was resurrection day."
"Now you have to understand what it meant to the Jew if they ever broke the Sabbath," McDowell explained. "It could mean death."
The Resurrection Proves It All
But the resurrection on a Sunday had been the proof positive that Jesus was indeed the Risen Lord, worthy of worship on that day of the week.
"If Christ physically rose from the grave, then that proves His identity, message and credentials," McFarland pointed out. "What was His identity? God Incarnate. What was His message? Salvation by faith in what He did on the cross. His credentials? Virgin born, sinless life, rose from the dead, i.e.: He is the Savior."
McDowell told CBN News the meaning of it all is so powerful and overwhelming, it still touches him deeply more than half a century after he first came to believe Jesus was indeed the resurrected Son of God, able to conquer death.
"It gives me hope that as Christ was raised from the dead, I shall be, too. Because of that," he stated.
McFarland added, "In the empty tomb, we have it all, ironclad, guaranteed. I tell people the tomb was left empty so that your life could be made full."

CBN's Pat and Gordon Robertson, David Brody, Named Among Most Influential Evangelicals in America - CBN News

CBN's Pat and Gordon Robertson, David Brody, Named Among Most Influential Evangelicals in America
CBN News 11-18-2017

On Saturday, Newsmax.com released its top 100 picks for the most influential evangelicals in America today.
The conservative website pointed out that the evangelicals on their list come from many different Christian denominations, but they all have a common belief in the holiness of scripture and the centrality of faith in Jesus Christ for their lives.
The list includes the vice president of the U.S., actors, authors, pastors, TV reality stars, evangelists, Hollywood producers and ministry leaders.
Pat Robertson, the founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network and the host of CBN's The 700 Club was named number 5 on the list. He also founded the International Family Entertainment Inc. (ABC Family Channel, now Freeform), and the American Center for Law and Justice, among other organizations, and is an important voice for conservative Christianity in the United States.
Gordon Robertson, the chief executive officer of CBN, and son of Pat Robertson was listed at number 15. Robertson often hosts The 700 Club as a fill-in for his father when needed. He's also an executive producer for the show and produces the CBN children's animated series Superbook.
CBN News' Chief Political Correspondent David Brody was recognized at number 27 on the list.  Brody's book on President Trump's spirituality is getting ready to go to press. He also launched the political talk show Faith Nation seen on Facebook Live Wednesdays from CBN's Washington bureau. He's often a regular guest on other news networks  called on to talk about faith and politics.
Listed as the top two American evangelical influencers were Billy Graham and his son, Franklin.  Although the elder Graham has slowed down in his active ministry, Newsmax reports, he's built his legacy as America's greatest preacher. He will turn 100 next year.
Following in his father's footsteps, Franklin Graham founded his own influential ministry, Samaritan's Purse, and preaches the gospel of Jesus Christ to millions through the ministry and his own evangelism rallies.
Vice President Mike Pence, the former Indiana governor, was named at number 9 on the list. Political analysts have said he was chosen by President Trump to be his running mate because of his traditional Christian conservatism.
Also making the list at number 51 was Phil Robertson, TV reality star and the head of the Robertson family.  His Duck Commander company was the subject of the hit TV series Duck Dynasty. Robertson serves as an elder at the White's Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, Louisiana. He has been very outspoken about his faith in the media.
Tim Tebow also made the list at number 56. Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback, now plays in the outfield for a New York Mets minor league baseball team. He took a lot of hits in his professional football career because of his bold stand for his Christian faith. He has also written several books and supported organizations like Cure International.
Other notable evangelicals named to the list include Stephen Curtis Chapman, Andy Crouch, Rick Warren, Beth Moore and actor Kirk Cameron.
According to Newsmax, “the men and women who made their list come from all walks of life whose faith leads them to live differently and to help others in a variety of ways.”

CBN Announces Launch of Live, Social Media-Driven Political Talk Show

07-17-2017

Christian Broadcast Network is launching a new, live social media-driven political talk show.
It's entitled "Faith Nation" and will debut on Facebook Live Wednesday, July 19 at 12:30 p.m. ET and be broadcast every Wednesday thereafter.
Featuring CBN's David Brody and Jenna Browder, "Faith Nation" will focus on today's political topics that are significant to Christians, featuring significant audience engagement as viewers will have the opportunity to comment in real time during the live broadcast.
Each weekly show will feature "The District," with David Brody interviewing leading political figures and news makers in Washington, D.C.
It will also include regular segments from CBN News' Amber Strong and Ben Kennedy discussing today's top news stories and their significance to the faith community, man-on-the street interviews with CBN's Juan Garcia, and additional relevant news content from other CBN News reporters, including Caitlin Burke, Abigail Robertson and Jennifer Wishon.
"There are millions of Christians in America whose values are not being echoed by much of the media. CBN's 'Faith Nation' will provide these viewers with a platform to be informed about important stories that are relevant to them, as well as to give them a real voice in the national discussion of those issues," said Gordon Robertson, CEO of the Christian Broadcasting Network.
"Faith Nation is designed to tackle two topics we are told to not bring up at the dinner table: faith and politics," said Dana Ritter, CBN News Washington D.C. bureau chief.
"The show concept was hatched out of the idea that people still want to talk about it but are more comfortable discussing those issues on social media," she explained. "We see the need to engage the audience where they already are and Facebook allows us to do that while also giving the audience a voice."
"Faith Nation" is produced by Shoshannah Nunez in the CBN News bureau in Washington DC.

Go See 'In Our Hands,' Which Tells the Miracle Story of the Six-Day War - Special Encore Presentation June 1, 2017! - STEVE STRANG CHARISMA MAGAZINE

Go See 'In Our Hands,' Which Tells the Miracle Story of the Six-Day War

Strang Report, by Steve Strang, Founder of Charisma magazine
SPECIAL ENCORE PRESENTATION THURSDAY, JUNE 1 - IN THEATERS AGAIN
Fifty years ago, a miracle happened. Israel defeated their neighbors in what has become known as the Six-Day War and reunified Jerusalem for the first time in approximately 2,000 years.
Gordon Robertson of CBN had the vision to create a docudrama drawing from the actual journals, recordings and interviews with survivors of what happened in faithful hours. It is showing on Tuesday, May 23, in more than 700 theaters around the country—for one night only.
I had the privilege of screening the movie in advance, and it is excellent, which you can tell from the trailer here. It tells the story from the Jewish perspective and reveals a great deal of little-known but very interesting information, such as how the soldiers who took the Temple Mount were actually reservists rather than an elite military team. The film also gives some insight into the personalities of some of those involved.
I was pleased to interview Robertson on my "Strang Report" podcast, which you can listen to below. He talks about how the Six-Day War is a fulfillment of Luke 21:24 (MEV), "And Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled."
In 1967, Gordon was only 9 when his father, Pat Robertson—who has been a strong supporter for Israel for decades and is a real student of Bible prophecy—sat the family down and told them the significance of what was happening in the Six-Day War.
On our calendar, the anniversary of the beginning of The Six-Day War is June 5, but because the Jewish calendar is different, it is actually May 23 when the Jews celebrate Jerusalem Day worldwide. This significant day, Yom Yerushalayim, is the day the movie is being released.
President Donald Trump had planned a major speech from Masada—the site in the Judaean wilderness where Jews fought the Romans until the last person died. Instead, the speech will come at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem (the location hadn't changed when the podcast was recorded). This is the first international trip of his Trump's presidency, and he obviously picked this date because of the significance to the Jewish people in order to make a point.
Sadly, the Obama administration almost seemed more sympathetic toward Israel's Arab enemies than it did to Israel. In the closing days of Obama's administration, the United States abstained from vetoing a United Nations resolution that condemned Israel for "occupying" the West Bank, which includes East Jerusalem.
As Gordon points out in the podcast, the Six-Day War is more than politics. It was God Almighty who prophesied in His Word that this war would happen. For Christians, it is also significant because the area being disputed is also the sight of the Holy Sepulchre, the Garden of Gethsemane and the City of David.
While the prophecy in Luke 21:24 was fulfilled in 1967, Gordon explains there is another great prophecy—that all the nations of the world will assemble against Jerusalem (Zech. 14:2). This is something that is obviously very serious and, as a strong supporter of Israel, I hate to think the United States would ever align with the enemies of Israel to oppose that country.
I plan to personally invite some Jewish friends to see the movie with me next Tuesday, and I urge you to do the same. In fact, you can get group tickets by visiting inourhands1967.com.
I congratulate Gordon Robertson and his team on an excellent project. The timing is incredible. My hope is that this movie will help reveal to those who may be on the fence regarding the Israel-Arab conflict how God's hand is on the nation of Israel and on the events of 1967.
Please share this on social media as well as with members of your church and others in your circle of influence, and let's pack out those theaters on Tuesday, May 23.

Jerusalem Log #7 - Saturday 05.06.17 Jerusalem, Israel - “Why”

A few members of the Nissim and Hadassah Lerner family

"Why" - Jerusalem Log #7
Saturday 05.06.17 Jerusalem, Israel
Steve Martin

Greetings from the land of the Messiah, Who came for all of us.

Why does anyone come to Israel? Of course to experience the spiritual reality of walking where Jesus (Yeshua) walked; to see for yourself the historical locations mentioned in the Torah and the Covenants, the full Bible; and to stand in support of the people, even more so as the world around them grows more hostile and committed to destroying them, as they have sworn to do.

My purpose for these many journeys to their Land is to personally let them know that I too believe what the Scriptures say, what the prophetic truths have declared, and to be a part of the plans of the Lord God of Israel. Simply doing my part.

My heart, and that of Love For His People ministry, is to do what we can, with what we have. That is to love the Jews, living in their Land, given to them through Abraham, from the Father above.

Over these past 40 years many personal relationships have developed with those who have paid the price, made the move (Aliyah), and now walk in faith for that which has been given to them. After centuries of hate and destruction from so-called “Christians”, my actions as a true believer must be to show them the love of their Lord and mine, from a Gentile (non-Jew) as I am. My presence here in Israel demonstrates my commitment to them. It is putting my money where my mouth is.

One relationship that has developed over the last three years is with that of the Lerner family, living north of Jerusalem. Nissim and Hadassah have opened their door to my wife Laurie and I, and we are so grateful for their hospitality and love shown towards us.

Birthday party for the 16th grandchild on his 1st birthday

Having made aliyah with their family of four sons and one daughter in 1989 from the Virginia, USA area, they have put their roots down here, and are seeing the fruit of their determination to live as the Lord has directed. Now with 16 grandchildren and counting (their daughter has nine children!) they are living their lives with the strength provided from above.

Nissim works with CBN, and has seen his important, “behind the scenes” part in the ministry grow and flourish, as the TV and Internet presence of CBN News continues to increase, broadcasting weekly from Jerusalem. Also, Nissim is an excellent cook!

Hadassah lays her life down by being fulfilling the important role of being grandma to her 13 grandchildren also living in the same community. Whatever is needed, both her and Nissim are here to give encouragement to them all. Her postings on social media (primarily Facebook) certainly helps give the truthful position on what really is happening in Israel. I myself have reposted many of what she has put forth.

Both her and her husband have certainly been very hospitable each time we have come and stayed in their home. They often open their home to others who come, for a few days or months. Even now they are hosting a Chinese Jewish girl going to school here at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Their son Timothy actually taught her in China when she was younger. He is fluent in Mandarin and leads many Chinese on tours in Israel as their certified tour guide.

Hadassah, Tim, Shan Shan and I at the Jerusalem Zoo May 6, 2017

Giving thanks to the Lord for what He has done here in Israel, which is miraculous to say the least, is the first thing we regularly do. Giving love for His people is the natural outcome of His love and truth shown to us. We are a blessed people to be grafted into His plans and purposes, into the tree of life. Seeing Him through all this is awesome.

That is why we stand with the people of Israel.

Ahava (love) and Shalom (peace) from Israel!

Jerusalem Log #5
May 4, 2017
Jerusalem, Israel

Greetings to you from the Promised Land!

It sure is great when the Holy Spirit guides you. Once you ask Him to of course.

After driving the short 25 minutes from Jerusalem to King Herod’s Palace and tomb (three videos I recorded are here), when I was finished, and tired from the many steps, I asked “Where next, Lord.” His reply was “Derek Prince’s gravesite.” And so I went back to Jerusalem, to Germantown.

I had been to the Alliance Church Cemetery twice before, but wanted to see it again. It is in the southern part of Jerusalem, in what was/is known as Germantown. I somewhat knew the way, but again was asking the Lord to direct my steps (as I drove.)

Traffic is packed full of buses, taxis, motorcycles, mopeds and cars no matter where you drive in the capital city of Israel, and with a rental car, parking is even more of a challenge. But I found a lone spot two blocks from the cemetery entrance.

Once inside, I started the circular walk to the right, with Derek’s grave not too far from the metal door entrance, part of the stone/block wall that surrounds the Alliance Church Cemetery. To my amazement the mural, which I had first heard about on the 700 Club on CBN a few years ago, was completed! It began in the right, southwest corner of the walled-in resting place, and filled the 12 foot tall wall the entire 70 yards (my estimate) of the right side. Then it turned the corner and ran another 30 yards or more on the eastern wall. What a glorious site!

From Genesis to Revelation, with Abraham, Moses, Joseph and to the reign of Jesus (Yeshua) in Revelation, the complete Bible story is told, painted by Patricia Solveson from Wisconsin, USA. It took her six and a half years.

And how do I know that? When the lady sitting on the wooden bench at the end of my walk around the area, after taking several photos of graves, asked me if I was a photographer, I replied, “I like to take pictures.” I asked her who she was. She softly said, “I am Patricia. I painted this mural.” Wow!

Patrica Solveson

Patricia then went on to say how the Jerusalem Wall of Life came about, beginning over seven years ago when she was asked to do the mural. The director of the cemetery had seen her painted artwork she brought to Jerusalem for several years, giving it away as gifts, and wanted her to paint the mural. Once started, six and half years later, when coming in the spring and fall with her husband Carl, Patricia beautifully put the story of salvation on the Jerusalem wall.

Many people visit the cemetery to see graves of the believing Gentiles buried there. As she shared stories with me, she described how a Jewish man would come often, asking her why this and that was depicted. In time, as she explained the plan of God to him, he too became a believer and now still comes regularly to visit. Other Jews who come in off the street, out of curiosity most times, wonder why the Star of David and Christian symbols are on some sites.

The last few years have seen several Messianic Jews laid to rest here. May the Holy Spirit continue to share the message of hope and salvation to all who come.

You can read more about Patricia and the mural at the website Jerusalem Wall of Life - It is Finished!
