Netanyahu: Radical Islam Reaching Israel

Netanyahu: Radical Islam Reaching Israel

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israel is on high alert due to growing violence in Jerusalem and surrounding areas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has even declared the Temple Mount off limits to Knesset members.
Netanyahu warned his country that the flames of radical Islam burning throughout the Middle East are also reaching Israel.
"We are in the midst of a wave of terrorism. Terrorists that have been incited and who are riven with hate are trying to attack our people – babies, children, men and women, civilians and soldiers," Netanyahu told the nation.

In just two days, Palestinians carried out 10 stabbing attacks in Jerusalem and other cities in Israel and the disputed territories, including two at the Lion's Gate in Jerusalem's Old City.
Rock-throwing and fire-bombing cars are regular occurrences as well as rioters clashing with Israeli soldiers.
Netanyahu and other government ministers went on live television to calm anxiety.

"Israelis are acting with bravery, composure and determination to neutralize and eliminate the terrorists. This requires extraordinary courage and resourcefulness and we are proud to be part of a country that has such citizens," he said.

Netanyahu blames Hamas, the Palestinian Authority and the Islamic Movement in Israel.
He also said the Islamic Movement "is igniting the ground with lies regarding our policy on the Temple Mount."
Earlier, Netanyahu declared the Temple Mount off limits to Knesset members, including Arab MKs, in an effort to calm the situation.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat called on Israelis with gun permits to carry their weapons. Some schools went on strike because parents are afraid to send their children to school.

Many are asking if this violence could be a third intifada Palestinian uprising. But Palestinian expert Pinchas Inbari, a researcher at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, told CBN News it doesn't matter what it's called.

"They are throwing stones, they are killing, they are shooting, they are stabbing so they are not quiet," he said. "So whether it is an intifada or not is not important."

Inbari says overall, Israel wants to deal with troublemakers and not create friction with the entire Palestinian population.

Palestinian Authority's Grotesque Response to Jerusalem Attacks

Palestinian Authority's Grotesque Response to Jerusalem Attacks

Sunday, October 04, 2015 |  Israel Today Staff
Jerusalem, or at least the area around the Old City, has become something of a war zone over the past few days.
In at least two separate attacks, two Israelis have been knifed to death, a Jewish toddler has been stabbed, and several more people have been wounded for no other reason than walking in certain areas while being Jewish.
And how have Israel’s peace partners in the Palestinian Authority responded? By blaming Israel, naturally.
When a 19-year-old Palestinian man mercilessly killed two Israeli men, critically wounded the wife of one of the victims and stabbed their helpless 2-year-old child near Lions’ Gate on Saturday, he was shot and killed by soldiers responding to the scene.
Similarly, when another knife-wielding terrorist stabbed and seriously injured a 15-year-old Israeli near Damascus Gate on Sunday, he, too, was gunned down to prevent any further bloodshed.
The statement released by the Palestinian Authority in the wake of these attacks insisted that the “killing of two young men in occupied Jerusalem” was part and parcel of Israel’s “policy of escalation.” The regime of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas urgently called upon the international community to intervene against Israel.
Nowhere in the statement did Abbas acknowledge that the two slain Palestinian men had only been shot because they had first perpetrated murderous attacks against passing Jews. In fact, the statement didn’t mention the Jewish victims at all.
Tellingly, some foreign media followed Abbas’ lead, headlining the story in a way that sought to disconnect the deaths of the Palestinian men and their Jewish victims, and to blame Israel for the former.
For example, the BBC first headlined the story of the Lions’ Gate attack “Palestinian shot dead after Jerusalem attack kills two.” A more fitting and accurate headline would have noted that two ISRAELIS had been killed and their attacker eliminated.

As the British-commanded ANZAC troops moved north after the battle of Be'er Sheva they were greeted as liberators by the Jews of Palestine. New Zealanders were hosted by the Jews of Rishon LeZion, and Australians entered Jerusalem with General Allenby at the end of December 1917.

Ottoman Archives Posts More Rare Photos of the Holy Land This Week

Posted: 26 May 2015

Israel's History - a Picture a Day (Beta)

More pictures were digitized and posted by the Ottoman Imperial Archives this week, and we are thankful to the archivists for preserving and sharing their photographic treasures.

Among the pictures was this unique photo of Jerusalem, taken from the Mt. Scopus area and dated 1886.  The remnants of snow are still visible.

Another photo, dated 1916, shows the Galilee town of Tiberias on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.  One of Judaism's holiest cities (along with Jerusalem, Hebron and Safed), Tiberias dates back to the era of the Bible and the Talmud.

By Ottoman order the town was confined within the ancient walls until 1908 when a Christian order built a convent outside of the walls.  Several farms were established in 1911 outside of the walls, and they are visible in the photograph.

Jerusalem Inspiration

Many people are surprised to learn that the walled area of Jerusalem's Old City is not quite as old as one might think. The Biblical core of the city actually lay outside these walls, where David established his palace on a mountain ridge nearby. Also surprising is that David's city covered an area of only forty-five dunams, not quite a sprawling metropolis. Yet nowhere else in the world has such a small venue made such a great and eternal impact.

Life and Death of a Jewish Courtyard in Jerusalem's Old City

Israel's History - a Picture a Day (Beta)

Posted: 23 Apr 2015
A scene in a Jerusalem courtyard in the Jewish Quarter, April 1917 (Imperial War Museum Q 86316)

The picture of this Jerusalem courtyard in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City was taken by a German army photographer during World War I and was found in the British Imperial War Museum.  Jerusalem at the time was ruled by the Ottomans.

The distinctive arches on the building on the right identify it as the Rothschild Building, part of the Batei Machaseh compound built for Jewish residents of the Jewish Quarter.  It was donated by Baron Wilhelm Karl de Rothschild of Frankfurt.  The building still bears the Rothschild family's coat of arms. The compound was built between 1860 and 1890 to provide housing for Jerusalem's poor.

The Rothschild Building appears in a series of dramatic Life Magazine photographs taken by John Phillips during the Jordanian capture of the Old City during the 1948 war. The arches can be seen on the left side of these pictures; the picture above was a reverse view of the ones below.  The first was taken in the midst of the fighting in June 1948, and the Jews are seen gathering their belongings for their evacuation.  The second picture, taken in July 1948, shows the looting that took place.  The pictures appear in the DaledAmos blog.

God Talks Through Many Things if You're Open by Kathie Walters

God Talks Through Many Things if You're Open

Identity Network

A few years ago I looked at my itinerary and realized I had a week to myself (no ministry). I thought it would be great to go see my friend Joy Strang in Orlando. I emailed her and she said it was fine to go down.

But I did say to the Lord, "Is there anywhere you want me go with this week?" I wasn't really expecting an answer as I had already decided where to go. I was really just being polite. To my surprise He said, "Yes I want you to go to Israel."

"I was actually going to Florida," I replied.

"Israel" He said again.  I couldn't just say no, so I ended up going to Israel to see my friend, Juinnine. She was living in Jerusalem at the time.  I told some people I was going to Israel and people started sending money for the trip - I had about $2500.  And then a friend from Ohio called me and said, "I want to buy your air ticket to Israel."  "I have plenty of money for Israel," I said. Suzanne insisted on getting the ticket so I ended by taking the $2500 with me to Israel.

Juinnine  was happy to see me at Tel Aviv Airport but told me, "We need to pray because I don't have money to renew my lease and I am behind on the rent."  "Oh well I think I brought you the money for that," and handed over some of the money I brought with me from USA.

So for a week I just hung out with Juinnine who had a great ministry, especially in the Arab villages.

I just followed her around and didn't do anything much myself in the way of ministry.

I Have to Check this Out

It was the last day before I was to leave and we were walking around the Old City. I had kind of complained because apart from seeing a friend, it seemed a bit pointless my being there, when I could have gone to Florida which is only a six hour drive.

As we walked around, I passed a jewelry store - you know I love jewelry especially antique jewelry - rose gold in particular. Well this store had Michal Negrin jewelry, which I also love. Michal Negrin is an Israeli designer.

"I have to check this out," I said and grabbed Juinnine. We went inside the store and were met by a very neat looking couple who looked like Israeli Barbie dolls. He had black curly hair and she was a glamorous blonde.

I started looking at the neat bracelets and necklaces along with Juinnine. The couple who owned the store walked away to the other side of the store.  I realized that they ceased to be interested in me when they heard my English accent. In a lot of places English people are known as "just looking" people.  As the stores depend on tourism for a living they don't care too much for people from the U.K who are "just looking."

I loved the jewelry - this is nice costume jewelry, not diamond and emeralds or anything. But not cheap either.

Not to waste this opportunity to get a piece of Michal Negin jewelery, I said to Juinnine, "I am in one of my favorite stores, I just have to buy a bracelet at least."   As I was picking up a bracelet I liked, The Lord said to me, "Buy four, and buy something for Juinnine."

I was surprised,  "They aren't cheap you know," I replied, but God repeated it.

So I found myself choosing four bracelets and I told Juinnine to pick whatever she liked best.  "Really, anything?" she said.

As I was pointing to the various bracelets I liked and Juinnine was choosing her necklace, the couple who owned the store heard me saying, " I think I will get this one and this one" and they heard Juinnine saying "Oh I think I will get this necklace." They suddenly got very interested in me and came back around to where we were standing.

Are You those Born Again People?

We purchased the four bracelets and a pretty necklace for Junnine. Juinnine said, "Praise the Lord!" The nice looking Barbie doll looking man looked up and said, "Oh are you those born again people." We said, "Yes,"

He explained, "A missionary lady from Sweden came into the store a few months ago and she told us about the Messiah, Jesus. And she emails us every week to tell us more about Him." She emailed us this morning and said some people would come in here today and tell his about the Messiah. It must be you. Junnine prayed with them to know the Messiah.

Before we left they told us this: "The reason we did not accept Jesus before is because we thought if we did, He would take away our business and make us poor, and we want to be successful."  When I bought four bracelets and bought a nice necklace for Juinnine that hit that misconception about God on the head and they were free

And then we talked about being born again -

They had a wrong mindset about God from Christians and missionaries who came to the store, so when I bought the four bracelets and something for Juinnine it squashed that idea they had, and left them open to a God who may enjoy them being successful. I kept one bracelet and gave the rest away

The last I heard they were very successful and had another couple of stores.

God talks through His word, His prophets and minsters. He speaks through signs and wonders and aromas and all kinds of demonstrations. He also talks to people through money. So be open as He is looking for some vessels to flow through.

Roman Find Sheds Light on Ancient Jewish Revolt

Roman Find Sheds Light on
Ancient Jewish Revolt

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Archaeologists in Jerusalem have discovered a rare Latin inscription from the Roman period just 100 years after Jesus. It's the time when the Romans were trying to erase any trace of the Jews from the city.

The 2,000-year-old, one-ton stone was dedicated to the Roman Emperor Hadrian.

"We have preserved enough letters and words that we can figure out the name and the titles of the emperor and by whom the inscription was dedicated and probably the entire monument was constructed," Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) archaeologist Rina Avner told CBN News.

"The 10th legion dedicated this arch to Hadrian upon his 14th [year as tribune] -- that would be 130 CE [A.D.]," Shmulik Freireich, IAA conservator, said.

The Israel Antiquities Authority discovered the stone during a salvage excavation between a mosque and a church near a busy Jerusalem street. Found in a Byzantine-era site, the ancient stone had been recycled to build a water cistern.

"I think it's very significant because it's hard evidence of an official construction project that was carried [out] by the Roman army for the coming of the emperor to the city," Avner said. She says there's more that the stone does not reveal.

"We don't have the new name of Jerusalem that was given by Hadrian and we don't have indication of the change of the city status as a Roman colony," she explained.

Hadrian ruled the Roman Empire from 117 to 138 A.D. He renamed Jerusalem Aelia Capitolina, after his family name, and built a temple to Jupiter on the ruins of the second Jewish Temple.

"It was a policy to Hellenize the land and erase the Jewish past," Avner said.

The unanswered question is whether Hadrian provoked the Jewish Bar Kochba revolt from 132 to 136 A.D. by building pagan temples or if he built the temples to punish the Jews.

The other half of the stone was found nearby more than 100 years ago and is on display in a museum in the Old City.

Avner said it's always exciting to find a direct physical connection to the past.

Israeli PM: We'll Build Everywhere in Jerusalem

Israeli PM: We'll Build

Everywhere in Jerusalem

Chris Mitchell, CBN News Middle East Bureau Chief  CBN News

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is vowing Jerusalem will never be divided. He made the declaration Wednesday as Israelis celebrated Jerusalem Day, a holiday marking the capture of the Old City during the 1967 Six-Day War.

On June 7, 1967, Israeli paratroopers entered Jerusalem's Old City through the Lion's Gate and headed toward the Temple Mount. Their advance meant that for the first time in nearly 2,000 years, Jerusalem was reunited under Israeli sovereignty, with the Jewish people controlling the Old City and the Western Wall.

Many Jews and Christians call that battle a miracle and an historic turning point and that's why Israelis celebrate Jerusalem Day every year.

Thousands of Israelis flood the streets on Jerusalem Day, waving flags, dancing, and singing. It's just one outward sign of how important Jerusalem is to the Jewish people.

"Jerusalem is the heart of us and the heart of the world," Gideon Bashan told CBN News.

"Jerusalem is the place we connect to God," one young man from Kfar Saba near Tel Aviv said.

"It's important because it's our history," said an immigrant from the United States, who lives here with his four children, 17 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. "This is our capital. This is what the world thinks of us is Yerushalayim."

Netanyahu declared Israel will continue to build everywhere in Jerusalem.

"Jerusalem was unified 47 years ago and it will never be re-divided," Netanyahu said during ceremonies at Ammunition Hill, where one of the most decisive battles for Jerusalem took place.

"Since that day, Jerusalem has developed," he continued. "It is prosperous and flourishing and we meet here [at Ammunition Hill] every year to ensure that this prosperity will be even greater, that the construction will be even broader and that it will flourish even more."

But Palestinians say they want Jerusalem to be the capital of a future Palestinian state. Senior Palestinian Authority official Abu Ala told CBN News there can be no peace agreement without Jerusalem.

"It is the second holy place for the Muslims in the world. For the Palestinians in addition to that, no availability of a Palestinian state without Jerusalem," he said.

Israel Police shut down the Temple Mount on Jerusalem Day after Muslims harassed Jewish groups, some wanting to pray on the Temple Mount. But current rules forbid Jews, Christians, or any non-Muslims from praying at the site. Many believe because of this tension, the Temple Mount could become more and more of a flash point in the future.

In the meantime, Israelis celebrate the reunification of the city.
