Donald’s Bible – Dr. Clarence Sexton

Donald’s Bible – Dr. Clarence Sexton

LOVE FOR HIS PEOPLE SPECIAL NOTE in regards to the video that was posted here.
We have received a call from the church, where the video message was originally delivered by Dr. Clarence Sexton, and then put into another video by an unrelated, but well-meaning party from another state, to remove the finished video we had posted here. It had gone viral! As it should have!
The left has been severely backlashing the church and the leaders. Speaking forth lies, of course.
We are glad and encouraged that so many though were able to see the video in the last 24 hours. Again, the church told us that they have been getting much opposition from the left in regards to the video that was being shown here on our website too.
We had joined along with many believing Americans who shared the incredible video speaking of the Bible that President Donald Trump has in his White House office, given to him by his mother, from the Scotland revival.
Many of us want to see the Lord again have His way in this country. Sadly, there are just as many who are opposed to a strong, faith-in-God country, and are just as determined to destroy the biblical foundations America was founded on.
We will not back down, but with respect to the request by the church, we have removed the video.
But do know that the truth found in the Bible is the way of life we still choose to abide in, walk-in, and share with our family and friends.

Globally Respected Charismatic Leaders Confirm 2016 Prophetic Words - RICHARD BARKER CHARISMA MAGAZINE

Globally Respected Charismatic Leaders Confirm 2016 Prophetic Words

Prophetic Insight, from Charisma Media
One recent morning got kick-started before I was even awake! It was an eventful dream, which I'll relate shortly.
In fact, someone had already tried getting in touch in connection with the dream! That may seem astonishing but this sort of coincidence isn't at all unusual. 'God-incidents' always make me rejoice for we have a God of surprises.
When I got around to checking the weekend email, one near the top of my in-tray was from the senior leader of Falkirk Full Gospel Church in Scotland, Thomas Harry. In view of what I'd dreamed, his message stunned me! It reads:
"I have attached an urgent word from the Lord that has had an overwhelming number of confirmations ... regarding the new season we are in and ensuring we build on the biblical foundation of the Apostles and Prophets found in Ephesians 2:20.
"It has been confirmed by respected Christian leaders globally and the document includes 10 confirmations including from Catherine Brown, Sharon Stone, Cindy Jacobs, Peter Wagner & others.
"This will affect us all one way or another, so I felt it was vital I shared with someone like you. Most of us realize there's a great move of God coming and the Lord wants to ensure we have our foundations and houses ready for this ...'
"I believe it signals the biggest shift in the church since the reformation ..."
I agree with Thomas that this prophetic consensus warrants church-wide circulation to leaders and congregations for serious consideration and weighing with the Lord.
To read the full document use this link to 'Word for 2016 ...' and scroll for downloading it as a Word or PDF document. More easily, however, read it courtesy of James Bailey with extensive comments on his Z3News by clicking here.
Thomas' document begins:
"The Lord has confirmed that the church as a whole has shifted to a new season and consequently we must build on the Apostolic and Prophetic foundation laid out in Ephesians 2:20. The attached document has been collated by Thomas Harry, through the leading of the Holy Spirit in order to communicate this word to the global church. Due to the urgent nature of this word, please circulate this to believers and leaders both here in the U.K. and beyond. I urge every believer and leader to take the time to read through this, as it is certainly one of the most important words for the church in many years."
I'm grateful to Thomas for kindly quoting a couple of items from this blog. Furthermore, we know from recent posts there are many more confirmations than those he quotes. (Not to mention the content of daily Lion Bites from Glasgow Prophetic Centre.)
Moreover, this blog's A New Era for the Church lists over 40 prophetic promises made before November 2014 and building up over the following year, presumably leading to a tipping point!
A Revival-Related Dream
The dream I'd had a few hours before reading his email was this:
A crowd I supposed had come from a church were milling around and confused. One man of some standing sharply accused me, "You're not a Christian." Upon my addressing that issue, the scene changed and time seemed to pass, as though the dream's earlier part was about historical events.
At one point, my spectacle lens was about to fall out, so I used my special screwdriver to adjust and tighten it. (This symbolizes a change in clarity of vision in order to understand the dream's meaning—and what was about to unfold!)
Then I found I was looking into large hall inside a building—the ceiling was not visible, but I sensed it was open to the heavens. The distant walls resembled many side chapels in a large cathedral. One was noticeable and commemorated the period of Celtic saints in pre-Catholic British church.
And NOW—actually while typing—I'm getting distinct ripples and chills down my neck as Heather Clark sings, "For the Lord our God He is holy ... holy, holy, holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty" in her distinctive rendition of Exalt the Lord (from her Glorious Praise CD).
The hall in my dream was jam-packed with excited believers, quite the opposite of the earlier scenes. Someone nearby held his Bible to his mouth (signifying not only he will speak in accordance with Scripture but also as led by the Lord, with full prophetic anointing). And so I understood he was going to preach with a holy unction.
But then the alarm went off!
The dream's impact left a lingering impression. So I chuckled upon reading our morning prayer focus from Keep Praying and Bless. The day's Scripture is 1 Chronicles 16:29, "Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His Name!"
We decree that a day will come when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord.
After the daily prayer of blessing for our family, friends, locality and that day's particular city came its specific blessing:
"We bless the nation to receive a spirit of worship, to give glory and honor to Almighty God, that His Glorious Name be praised by all men."
How appropriate—even more so when I read Thomas' email.
May you too be mightily blessed.

A Lot of Times Revival Comes Through the Back Door by Kathie Walters

A Lot of Times Revival Comes Through the Back Door         Kathie Walters

Identity Network

I am sure you know or at least have read how many times revival has come through the back door, not the way people were expecting. Did you know that very often in history, revival has come through children?  Do you know that God is much more willing to "take over" than we are willing to let Him?  We believe we are willing, but God sometimes does "strange acts" that we are not familiar with.

In Isaiah chapter 64 it says that when God came down He did terrible (awesome, powerful, unimaginable) things we looked not for.  So when God takes over and He does all kinds of powerful and wonderful things, what are we to do? Definitely NOT try and work it out with our mind. The mind, however great, will never understand the mysterious ways and mysteries of God, but by the enlightenment of the Spirit. This is where we have to listen closely to the witness of the Spirit within us. He is there to teach you the truth.

In 1 John it says that, "you don't need any man to teach you because the anointing within you is to teach you" (1 John 2:27).

Does that mean we don't need teachers?  Of course not, because they are given by God to instruct the Body of Christ in truth. Anointed teachers who teach under the anointing of the Holy Spirit and impart spiritual truth that brings you ultimately into a closer relationship with Jesus. Truth from God of necessity always sets you free because that's His nature. He does not bring you into bondage again to fear.

I think sometimes we assume that God wants to use someone but there are times when God does things all by Himself!!  He comes through the back door. Keep your spiritual antenna up in the coming days!

 Gone Away

When my husband, David, went to the schools in England years ago they sometimes had to close the school because the power of God came into the school. The kids were under the power of the Holy Spirit, in the corridors and laying all over the playing fields. No one prayed for them. David preached, and then God took over. He chased people.

In the Hebrides revival (see my book "Bright and Shining Revival") The presence of God came down and chased people in the fields and pubs and dance halls. They ran to the church or the police station. In that revival, whole towns were saved.

I was in a meeting in Columbus, Ohio where my husband, David, had been preaching and the Spirit was moving everywhere at the end. A small girl came up to me.  The little ones had been released from the nursery because they thought the meeting upstairs with the adults had finished.

I knelt down to ask the little girl what she wanted (she was tugging on my skirt). She started to speak to me and suddenly God came upon her.  The little girl was gesturing with her arms, and she was suddenly "frozen." That's an expression I use. It has been used in times of revival.  I don't know if this has ever happened to you?  If not, don't worry it will, but the presence of God comes on you so strong that you really can't move, not even bat an eyelid. The person is encased in the Presence of God.  Usually you are taken by the Spirit into heaven or even to another country, or to a place somewhere in the Spiritual realm which is not of this earth.

The little girl was "gone away."  In Scotland years ago during times of revival, when people were encased like that in God's presence they would say they had "gone away" (in the spirit).

I waited and two other small children came and leaned around the girl to see what she was doing, but as soon as they got close to her, this awesome presence fell on them too and they all stood frozen, like statues with their hands raised. One girl had her arms stretched out in front of her.  They stood like this - frozen.  The Presence around them was so strong. I stood up and was keeping an eye on them because I know when that happens you can't tell how long they will be "gone away."

Maybe an hour, three hours, 24 hours?  Well after about an hour I saw one of them move very slightly. When the anointing lifts like that it is very gradually, not suddenly. I knelt down again and waited. When the Holy Spirit lifted from the first little child who had been talking to me, she opened her eyes and looked at me and finished the sentence that she started before this anointing came. I asked them afterwards if they remembered anything? One said, "Jesus was hugging me close and whispering to me about my future."

Funny we were at the back of the room. God sometimes comes in the back door.

Getting Lost in God

In a camp one time in Ohio, we were ministering to the youth and adults - the youth were like concrete - you just couldn't get through to them. They were so resistant to the Holy Spirit - because they were all together and the guys were trying to be tough and not yield to God.  The third day we asked the Lord about it and He said, "After supper minister and pray for the children."

So after we finished eating, we gathered the children in a room and David began to preach to them. He preaches the same to the children as he does to the adults because they don't have a junior Holy Spirit. He preached and then prayed. The power of God fell on them. They were all over the floor, weeping and praying and were truly in another realm.

Someone came and said we need to make our way to the meeting place at the top of the hill, so we ushered the children out, although they could hardly stand. They were still weeping and laughing.  Half way up the hill they caught up with the teenagers who were dragging their feet, not wanting to be at the meeting. But as the small children caught up with them - bang - the power of God fell on the teens, all of them at once, and they fell out on the side of the hill and started sobbing and weeping and repenting.

After a while when they tried to get up, they were so drunk in the Holy Spirit they all helped each other, the big kids and little kids, pulling and pushing each other up to the meeting place.  David and I went ahead and sat with other 200 people attending the camp and waited.

As they hit the doorways the power of God fell on the whole place - everyone was tipped out of their chairs onto the floor. Even more weeping and sobbing and laughing and the whole place so was drunk in the Presence of the Lord.   I don't think we really had another meeting after that.  When the kids and youth came near, the whole place would just fill up and get lost in God.  He took over. He wants to. He loves to. He loves to show Himself strong on behalf of those that love Him.  Sometimes He comes in the back door.

Revival or Move of the Spirit

It's natural for people who have had some kind of encounter with God to want to experience Him more. If God is God and is a supernatural God, which He must be, then it's normal to want to experience and know His supernatural acts. After all He's our Dad.

I was thinking of this the last couple of days.  Inside it felt like I was groaning. There is a groaning of the spirit that stirs you up inside.

I remember when David and I first came to America, it was full blown Charismatic move. There was speaking in tongues and prophesying, words of knowledge etc., but I would feel something missing - I would find myself praying, "Lord please show people what you really can do. Let them see you when you are really in charge."

At first I couldn't figure out why I didn't see the kind of things I had seen before in other places. Now we were in places where God was moving and things were happening, it was not like NOTHING - there was a measure of God's presence. But it was not what I had seen before.

I remember we were ministering to a group of Christians from Portsmouth, UK. They were having a "camp" meeting on the Isle of Wight. Which is a small island off the south coast of England.

We were staying in a "Bed and Breakfast" guesthouse owned by some Christians and we had access to the meeting hall of the Plymouth Brethren church next door.  In the evening we would use the meeting hall for our meetings. During the daytime we did the normal holiday type things, beach, sightseeing, etc.  After the meeting went back to our B and B for an evening drink and snack

We had a great time and then we came to the last day.  Sunday church was ok - it was very quiet though as we joined in the Plymouth Brethren Service and then went out in the afternoon and had a meeting in the evening in the fellowship hall. The evening meeting was good, people were blessed and most people went back into the house for the pre-bedtime snacks. David and I also left the group of teenagers standing in a circle, still worshipping the Lord, so sweetly.

The Move of the Spirit

Drinking our hot chocolate and chatting in the guesthouse, we had not thought anymore about the teens. Suddenly we heard the sound of feet running and someone yelling, "David, David, Kathie…come quick." Well we didn't know what on earth was happening. We followed the young guy back into the meeting hall.

When we entered the room, it was filled with a heavy presence of God. Some of the teenagers were yelling.

In the middle of the circle was a young man of about fifteen years old. He had been saved earlier that day, so he knew nothing of the Spirit realm. He was kneeling on the floor and his arm and finger was raised and pointing. He was slowly turning in a circle on his knees.  As his finger pointed, moving around the circle, the person he pointed to fell to the floor and started to get delivered. Some were crying, some were laughing, some were making other sounds as demonic spirits left them.

The teens that had not yet been reached by Andrew's pointing finger were trying to run away but their feet were glued to the floor and they were unable to move, that's why they were yelling.

We just stood and watched as Andrew's arm and finger slowly moved around and pointed to them. Then each just crumpled and fell in a heap. The Spirit of God started moving on them and they began to get deliverance from lots of things from the past. We waited until the last one hit the floor. Andrew was still kneeling in the middle.

I wanted to explain that it was like watching a movie. Like they were not there. I'm not sure how to explain that if you haven't yet experienced it.

We left them there and went back into the house to join the other adults, drinking their nightcap, tea, and munching cookies.  I remember hearing a noise like a train and thinking, "I didn't realize we were near a railway station."  Well we weren't, we were in a little village. Then this sense of POWER came slowly into the room. The lady I was talking to knew something (the Presence of God) was coming towards us, and she was trying to put down her cup of tea before it did.

He Does as He Pleases

Suddenly everyone fell down on the floor and started weeping or laughing or making other sounds. After a while it was quiet and people were whispering to one another. People were confessing things to one another. Then the room was very bright and silent.

We took a breath and suddenly there was another noise above us, like when the wind blows. Then the children came running down from upstairs. They had all gone to bed and were asleep, but the Holy Spirit went up there and woke them up and began to convict them and touch them in a powerful way. They ran down the stairs and flew to their parents to ask forgiveness and tell their mom and dad how much they loved them. Does it surprise you that God doesn't think "Oh little children are asleep, I'll come back tomorrow."

He sees them the same as you and I. Because they are small it doesn't mean they have a baby Holy Spirit.

The next day we left and went home. No one was the same.  This was the fellowship that Graham Cooke was part of.  Sometimes God comes in the back door. Keep an eye on it. God doesn't always use the ones in front. Sometimes He doesn't use anyone particularly - He uses Himself. This is on the way - don't look just for what you are used to.  He is the door - He can be and do as He pleases. When He shows up it's really better to move out of the way.

"Celebrating Our Savior! The Worship of Our Lord by Martha, Lazarus and Mary" Catherine Brown, Glasgow, Scotland

"Celebrating Our Savior! The Worship of Our Lord by Martha, Lazarus and Mary"
Catherine Brown, Glasgow, Scotland
The Elijah List

...but only one thing is needed... Luke 10:42b

As we celebrate Resurrection Day, my heart is drawn once more into gazing into the face of Christ through Scripture. I'm certain that you, like me, long for a deeper place of holy intimacy with our Saviour. May we each experience this spiritual reality as we journey together this week in a fresh outpouring of grace and glory from Heaven. Yet, even as we long for new God-encounters, we come to pour out all that we are to the Lord. Let this Passover week be a time when we seek to give and not take, to serve and not seek to be served.

As I was meditating on John 12 I was blessed afresh by the profound picture of worship it paints through the lives of three extremely different siblings – Lazarus, Martha and Mary.

Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived at Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus' honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. John 12:1-3

It's so tempting to rush through a familiar portion of Scripture without waiting on the Holy Spirit to bring a fresh illumination. As I re-read this beautiful text, the Holy Spirit impressed this known truth upon me, and in the quiet place of humble waiting I grasped afresh how deep the worship of these three precious individuals was.

It was near Passover, and an occasion had been set apart to focus only on Jesus; a moment in time had been divinely mandated for pure and unadulterated worship of the Lord. A time had been consecrated to wait with Christ and soak up each second of His grace-filled presence. This wondrous encounter would precede the eternal mystery of God outworked on the earth through the beauty and brutality of Calvary. Here, in a little home in Bethany, Heaven came down to earth and the atmosphere inside the house was charged with glory.

A Time to Serve: Martha's Worship

Martha had once been rebuked by the Lord for placing service above worship (see Luke 10:41-42), but now there was not a single word of correction about Martha's service, and the reason was that she now flowed out of love for Christ as labor to Him rather than from a weary place of labor for Him. She was not functioning out of any misplaced sense of duty but rather used her anointed gift of hospitality in worship to her Savior. Long gone was the sense of "having to," now replaced with the reality of "wanting to" use her God-given talents in worship of her Savior. (Photo via Wikimedia Commons)

God has entrusted gifts, calling, anointing, and commission to every born-again Believer. May we endeavour to live in a place of focus and flow that allows the Spirit of God to permeate Christ's love through us to all those we are privileged to serve.

Perhaps, as she moved around the table catering to the Lord and the dear friends who had gathered at their home, Martha reflected on the words that had marked her as a woman of faith when they rose from within her as she spoke to Jesus at the death of her brother Lazarus: "But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask" (John 11:22).

She came to Jesus believing that after four days the Lord would raise her dead brother. She had spoken out of the depths of desperation of a broken heart, but nonetheless she had spoken triumphantly above her circumstances, and her hope was not lost in Christ. Now here she stood to love and serve the One whose resurrection power had raised her brother from the grave. How her faith must have soared to inexplicable heights in those few brief days, and how her heart was surely moved in supreme tenderness to worship Christ with all that she was.

Precious saints, bow your heart with me now and surrender afresh to worshipping God with everything you are.

A Time to Rest: Lazarus' Worship

I want you to use your imagination for just a few moments to picture Lazarus reclining at the table with Jesus. Don't think about the food or the wine; don't deliberate about the table or the benches or even who the other guests might have been. For just one second reflect on the look of adoration that must have been on Lazarus' face as he gazed into the eyes of Christ.

Ponder the reality that here was the living, breathing body of a man once dead who was now alive and well by the side of the King of Glory. Don't you feel he might have nestled as close to Jesus as he possibly could, perhaps even laying his head on the Lord's chest to listen to His heartbeat? Don't you suppose the atmosphere of faith in that room would have been gloriously tangible?

When Christ draws near the things of this world fade away. (Photo by Kevin Moffatt "Come Out!" viaelijahshopper.com)

We can only contemplate what Lazarus experienced during those four days when his body lay dead. What visions had he seen of Heaven and angels and glory? What had he experienced of Hell? These are questions we can never answer this side of eternity, however, it is interesting to ponder.

Lazarus was raised to testify to Christ as the Resurrection and the Life and to God's miracle-working power. Every second of Lazarus' existence would be devoted to being a witness for Jesus. May we, too, emulate his holy, fiery passion to make Christ known throughout the nations!

A Time for Extravagant Adoration: Mary's Worship

We often think of Mary as the one who sat in attentive wonder at the feet of Christ, and rightly so, for Scripture affirms this (see Luke 10:39). Mary was a woman given to extravagant God-ward action. Yet, interestingly, Mary was not the first to go to the Master when her brother Lazarus died, rather it was her sister Martha who went out to meet Him whilst Mary stayed at home.

Did she wait to pray for Martha's encounter with the Lord? Was it within Mary's heart that her only sister Martha would know the blessed place of adoration she had attained in her relationship with Christ? Or was it a very different Mary who sat at home: Was her faith failing? Did she feel disappointed that the Master had been so near to Bethany and yet had delayed His coming, and in the interim period her beloved brother had died?

We will never truly know why Mary delayed in going to Christ, but we are told that when Martha returned "she went back and called her sister Mary aside. 'The Teacher is here,' she said, 'and is asking for you.' When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to Him" (John 11:28-29).

The Jews at the sisters' home had been comforting Mary. I sense Mary might have been having a faith-crisis, but when she learned that the Master was asking for her personally, something broke in Mary, allowing her to move from grief to the glory realm of one-on-one encounter with God.

The speed of her going to Jesus was so rapid that the Jews who had been with her followed her, expecting her to run in her grief to the tomb (see John 11:32).

But Mary didn't run to the tomb, she ran to the One who is Resurrection and Life and she fell at His feet and said, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died" (verse 32). (Photo by Jennifer Page "Forgiven" viaelijahshopper.com)

What did Mary mean? She was acknowledging Christ as Healer, but it would seem she failed to fully comprehend that He could raise Lazarus back to life. Jesus was deeply moved by Mary's grief and those of the other mourners, too. There was no reproof or rejection, only the all-encompassing love of God expressed in Christ. Jesus wept with the brokenhearted and then proceeded to call Lazarus back to life.

Envision the moment and rejoice, for we too will know this reality at the end of the Age when we are raised to eternal life in Christ.

In the meantime, let us also celebrate that God has personally called each one of us and meets us in every detail of our lives. He has an eternal plan and purpose for each of us, and Christ alone commands our destinies. Hallelujah!

Now consider the expensive perfume that was to be saved for the day of the Lord's burial: "Then Mary took a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume" (John 12:3).

Perhaps Mary had looked at her sister Martha enthralled in humble service and worship, then turned her attention to her once-dead brother now vibrant with life whose eyes were riveted with love on the Master, and she too remembered her season of agonizing pain, loss, and doubt now replaced with the wonder of resurrection glory. How could she withhold anything from the Lord?

She looked at that expensive perfume, and there was nothing that could hold her back. I envisage the multitude of angels that must have attended that occasion when all Heaven watched with bated breath as Mary picked up the nard. This was an unforgettable moment of holy awe, and out of the flow of Mary's heart came an action of dynamic worship and wonder and she offered Him her everything. All of it, every single drop of the expensive nard, was poured out on the Master as the alabaster jar was broken open.

She loved Him so and nothing could be withheld; her beloved Savior was irreplaceable.

She poured it out and the whole house was flooded with fragrance. (Photo by Lillis Boyer "Holy Incense" via elijahshopper.com)

I imagine the silence and then the outpouring of grace and the crescendo of angelic worship that trumpeted earthwards as holy beings celebrated and joined the adoring hearts of Mary, Lazarus, and Martha. Heaven and earth were joined in this moment of marvel as Christ was worshipped and adored.

May we live in the overflow of such expression of love to and for our Savior. I pray that our lives would be a fragrance to Jesus and that we would each breakthrough in victorious faith to live lifestyles worthy of His lovely name. We were made to worship and adore Him. He is worthy of all our praise. Today and always may God bless you and keep you in His tender love.

Scottish Jews wary of independence

Ahead of historic vote, many Scottish Jews wary of independence

In opposing secession, Jews cite anti-Israel statements by the Scottish government, historic links to the UK and economic risks

GLASGOW (JTA) — Bright blue signs scream “Yes” while red ones urge “No, thanks” in the streets of Scotland’s largest city just days before a vote on whether to secede from the United Kingdom.

But at Frank Angell’s house, his windows are empty and his yard is bare. A former local council candidate for the Scottish National Party, the main political movement behind the independence push, Angell is a vocal supporter of the Yes campaign, attending rallies and touting the economic potential of an independent Scotland.

But in his local Jewish community, Angell is one of only a handful of supporters of independence.

Most of the affiliated Scottish Jewish community appears to want to remain part of the United Kingdom — among them Angell’s wife, Elaine. Hence the lack of signage on their lawn.

“The SNP has a history of pro-Palestinian support,” Elaine Angell said. “[UK Prime Minister] David Cameron is very strong. He’s pro-Israel. He’s always been pro-Israel.”

On Thursday, Scotland will vote on whether to become an independent country or continue more than three centuries of union with England. The campaign has proved a divisive one here, with recent polls showing the country nearly split evenly on the secession question.

Supporters of independence believe that Scotland would be better able to allocate resources to the local population as a separate country while leaving a smaller military footprint than the United Kingdom. Opponents argue that the country is better served by the UK’s greater global influence and worry about the financial and political uncertainties of independence.

“It’s historical, cultural, but also practical, economical,” Angell told JTA. “The way the economy has gone in Britain has been to pander to a very rich minority and allow a lot of tax avoidance. I also object to the money being spent on nuclear weapons because I’m anti-nuclear.”

Many Scottish Jews say they are wary of secession, citing anti-Israel statements by the Scottish government, historic and family links to the United Kingdom, and the potential economic risks of independence.

“The Jews in Scotland have been well received,” said Malcolm Livingstone, chairman of the Glasgow Jewish Community Trust. “It’s only in recent times that extreme Palestinian groups have upset that. The Scottish Parliament has shown serious signs of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish attitudes.”

Scotland’s 2011 census counted fewer than 6,000 Jews — about 0.1 percent of the population — most of them living in and around the industrial metropolis of Glasgow. Including unaffiliated Jews, the total could be more like 10,000, according to the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities director, Ephraim Borowski.

The community hasn’t been polled and Borowski’s group has no official position on the referendum. But he says official condemnations of Israel during the war in Gaza this summer may have pushed some Jews to oppose independence.

During the war, the Scottish government released eight statements criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza. On August 5, it called for an arms embargo against Israel to protest civilian deaths in Gaza. Glasgow’s City Hall flew the Palestinian flag for a day in August.

“I do know of people who have said explicitly that they intended to vote yes and now intend to vote no, and that’s connected with the much more explicit obsession with Israel and the Mideast,” Borowski told JTA.

The anti-Israel resolutions in Scotland have come alongside a spike in anti-Semitism here. More than 35 anti-Semitic acts occurred in July and August, according to Borowski’s group, compared to 14 in all of 2013. While the Scottish National Party, which is leading the independence charge, has condemned anti-Semitism, some Jews worry that nationalist feeling has encouraged it.

“Nationalism in Europe has not done well with the Jews,” Livingstone said. “I’m not suggesting for a minute that the SNP is like the nationalist parties in Germany, but within nationalist politics there’s always an element that tends to blame minorities for things that go wrong.”

Angell told JTA he has never encountered any anti-Israel sentiment at party conferences. Last month, Scotland’s second-ranking government official, the SNP’s Nicola Sturgeon, wrote Angell a letter saying an independent Scotland would support a two-state solution and oppose boycotts of Israel.

“The foreign policy of an independent Scotland has yet to be written, but I know from the membership of our party that our attitude toward every nation and every group is a positive one,” said Vincent Waters, the SNP city councillor for Giffnock, a heavily Jewish Glasgow suburb. “We don’t have countries or ethnic populations that we favor one over the other.”

With a population of approximately 5.3 million, Scottish foreign policy isn’t likely to have a big impact on Israel. But Ben Freeman, 27, who grew up in Glasgow and founded an anti-discrimination nonprofit, says his country should support Israel as a matter of principle.

“It does matter because it’s our country,” Freeman said. “I don’t want to be part of a country that’s anti-Israel. I don’t want to be part of a country that’s anti-Semitic.”

Some Scottish Jews says they feel more of a connection to Britain as a whole than to Scotland. Unlike Scottish families who can trace their lines back to the country’s ancient clans, many Jews came here in a wave of immigration from Eastern Europe only a century ago, 200 years after England and Scotland formed a political union in 1707.

“Perhaps being a fourth-generation immigrant I have a different attitude toward being Scottish. None of my family was here in 1707,” Joel Conn said. “There’s a lot more that makes us British than makes us Scottish.”

Jews who support independence cite parallels between the Jewish and Scottish stories. Scottish nationalists have desired independence since the earliest rebellions against English rule in the 1200s, much as Jews longed for Zion over centuries of living in exile. And like Judaism, Scotland’s Presbyterian ethos historically encouraged education and literacy.

Joe Goldblatt, a native Texan who moved to Scotland six years ago and gained citizenship in July, was passing out fliers supporting independence last week in Edinburgh. Approaching a mother with a baby in a stroller, Goldblatt offered a pin to the “wee bairn,” or little kid.

“What’s the basis for all Jewish thought? Freedom,” said Goldblatt, a professor at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. “It surprises me when my fellow Jews want to be shackled to the old political tissue, as if they’re saying, ‘The pharaoh has been pretty good so far. Let’s not rock the boat.’ ”

Scotland’s Jewish population is declining as young people move to cities with larger Jewish communities in London, Manchester or Tel Aviv. Between 2001 and 2011, the community’s numbers declined nearly 10 percent.

But though many Jews oppose independence, Freeman doesn’t think a yes vote will cause a mass Jewish exodus.

“Those who will leave will leave and those who will stay will stay,” Freeman said. “I’m leaving in two years, but I want the best for the country of my birth, and I feel the country of my birth should not be independent.”
