D.C.'s Museum of the Bible Officially Opens This Week - CBN News John Jessup

D.C.'s Museum of the Bible Officially Opens This Week
11-11-2017
CBN News John Jessup
The new Museum of the Bible – a project seven years in the making – officially opens its doors this week.
Blocks away from the U.S. Capitol and in the heart of Washington, D.C., it's the first museum solely dedicated to God's holy word.

CBN News got an early sneak peek of the 430,000 square foot, eight-story building. Click on the video below for a personalized tour.

Once past the bronze Gutenberg Gates and security, the very first thing visitors will see is a 140-foot long digital LED display, which boasts a series of breathtaking colorful scenes in a pictorial canopy.

It's the first glimpse at the museum's technological edge, but the museum has much more to beyond the latest gadgets and gizmos.

Here is a floor-by-floor preview of the museum's exhibits and galleries:
  • First floor: Lobby, atrium, media wall, gift shop, children's gallery (Courageous Pages), coffee shop
  • Second floor:  Impact of the Bible gallery, featuring a 20 to 40-foot long scratchboard panel chronicling how the Bible shaped America's founding and still reverberates today.
  • Third floor: History of the Bible gallery to trace the origins and evolution of the Bible
  • Fourth floor:  Narrative of the Bible gallery
  • Exhibit space for international museum galleries including more than 700 artifacts from the Israel Antiquities Authority currently on display, performing arts hall, research library
  • Sixth floor: Biblical garden, viewing gallery, restaurant

Dr. Tony Ziess is the museum's executive director. He told CBN News the goal is to expose people to the Bible and help them engage with the holy book.

"No other book has had such an impact on civilization, particularly western civilization," Zeiss said. "It's exciting to know that we're a part of exposing this book and getting people engaged in all walks of life — whether they come from a faith-based perspective or a non-faith based perspective. Whether they're Hebrew or whether they're Protestant or Catholic or Ethiopian. Whatever they happen to be."

The museum has taken a decidedly non-sectarian approach, saying its mission is to help people engage with the Bible and bring its rich stories to life.
With a $500 million investment and global cultural and scholastic partnerships, the Museum of the Bible hopes that its mission translates into more people reading and appreciating the best-selling book of all time.

With all the brokenness from the flood disasters, hurricanes, wild fires and other challenges happening in this day, I hope this word may encourage and help you. May your Autumn be filled with great surprises, gifts from Abba, divine connections and abundant favor.
"Where have you put him?" He asked them. They told Him, "Lord, come and see." Then Jesus wept. The people who were standing nearby said, "See how much He loved him!" (John 11:34-36)
Jesus had a very special bond with Mary, Martha, and Lazarus; they weren't just casual acquaintances. We can catch a glimpse of His nature by observing the way He became intimately involved in their lives. Nothing has changed. Jesus still has a yearning to be close to His people today. In fact, we see into the heart of Jesus through these two powerful words in John 11:35: "Jesus wept."
I don't believe He was weeping for Lazarus, but rather for Mary and Martha. He loved them so much that He shed tears of empathy. His heart ached because of their deep sorrow. I genuinely believe that every tear you shed also runs down the cheek of Jesus! He weeps today when you drown in the depths of grief.
He Loves You Through the Pain
He says, "Oh, how I love you, My dear one! I want to hold you in My arms and whisper that everything will be okay." Can you feel the heartbeat of Daddy God in you? He loves you that much! You are that special to Him. Even the hairs on your head are numbered. You are that precious! I love my own children more than life itself, but I can't tell you how many hairs are on their heads. Jesus can! (Photo via publicdomainpictures)
Not only does He love us as much as we love our children, but He loves us more than any earthly father ever could, because He doesn't just show love, He is love. Everything that love is, God is. When He looks at His children, He looks with a heart filled with love and tender compassion. He weeps over the things that so deeply affect His children and sends His Holy Spirit to comfort them.
Dear friend, if you're in pain right now, the most powerful medicine for you is the knowledge that Jesus cares for you in your struggle and He weeps with you! He loves you. You have a purpose and a destiny, and you can be encouraged by the knowledge that He has not forgotten you. He will answer when you call on His name in faith!
Grab hold of the following Scriptures, meditate on them, and allow them to minister to your pain:
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed." (Psalm 34:18)
"He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds." (Psalm 147:3)
There is no wound so great that He cannot heal it. He will put the broken pieces of your life back together again and make you a vessel of honor. You will be better than before. I once heard someone say, "I'm a mess, Lord, but I'm Your mess!" He will always show Himself incredibly faithful, but because He draws near to the brokenhearted, He is closest when tragedy strikes. So, run into His loving embrace and let His comfort meet your needs. He's waiting...
He Collects Your Tears
I want you to know, precious friend, that Jesus collects all our tears, but not all tears are sad tears. Some tears simply express deep emotion. Let's look a little deeper at this.
ElijahList Prophetic Resources
"And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil." (Luke 7:37-38)
Once when I was praying, I felt an overwhelming desire to kneel before Him. As I did so, the Holy Spirit came and I couldn't stop weeping no matter how much I tried. I just lay on the floor as His love and tenderness swept over me in waves. Those tears were not from sadness; I was deeply touched by His great love and I responded with seemingly endless tears.
I was very still for a long time, just basking in His manifest presence when suddenly the Lord spoke to my spirit, "Steve, you're weeping at My feet." I had the inner sense that He was standing in front of me and I became keenly aware that He was to my right; I was weeping at His feet. That revelation kept me on the floor for many hours, transforming me from the inside out, giving me a revelation I would never forget. (Photo via Wikimedia)
The Sweet Master Jesus came and received my tears as a beautiful offering. Our Lord loves our tears. Just like the woman in Luke 7, we anoint Him with our love when we weep at His feet, adoring Him with our whole being. How can we not become transformed in His presence?
A Great Lover of Jesus
Mary was always at His feet. She loved to love Him. She anointed Him with her tears and our Lord loved her back. She got the attention of Father, and because of her deep devotion, she went down in history as a great lover of God!
"She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what He said." (Luke 10:39)
"When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw Him, she fell at His feet and said, 'Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.'" (John 11:32)
"Then Mary took about a pint of pure spikenard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume." (John 12:3)
So regardless of whether your tears are the result of sorrow or a heart full of adoration, run into His loving embrace and let His comfort and love meet you where you are. He's waiting...
Pray with me dear one:
Beloved Lord, You care for me in my struggles and You weep when I weep! Thank You for Your deep compassion that changes everything. I thank You for giving me a purpose and a destiny, and that You have not forgotten me. Come and collect all my tears, whether adoring or sad. Help me to lie at Your feet each day and anoint them with my love! You hold every tear I shed dear. Use each moment to transform me into Your image as I worship and adore You. Let me minister to You. Lift me to higher realms of understanding. Sweet Lover of my soul, draw me ever closer. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Basics of Life - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Basics of Life

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“He commanded the people of Judah to follow the Lord, the God their ancestors followed. And he commanded them to obey the Lord's laws and commandments.” (2 Chronicles 14:4, ERV)

In 1992 a fairly new Christian contemporary group 4Him (full bio and concert playlist below), formed in 1990 in sweet home Alabama, came out with their third studio album. It was entitled The Basics of Life, released on Benson Records and produced by Reed Arvin and Fred Hammond. As the lead single song says, they sang of life principles as recorded in the Living God’s manual to us, the full Bible.

I still have the CD, these 25 years later, as I write these words.

(L-R) Marty Magehee, Andy Chrisman, Kirk Sullivan, Mark Harris

For better than 4,000 or more years later after being written, the Torah, the Pentateuch (the first five books of Moses), the Tanakh, the books of the prophets, the Psalms and Proverbs, the Old and New Testaments, the Holy Scriptures – whatever you want to call them – are still the foundational truths given to us through God’s chosen people, the Jews, in order to live a full life.

You can find a copy of the Bible in most places around the world, in many translations for the local nationals. When the good Lord built it, you can bet it was meant to last.

I guess then that we should adhere to the principles that our Creator took so much care in bringing them to us. Knowing the different characters God the Almighty used to write the individual 66 books of The Book (unless you include the Apocrypha of the Roman Catholics, which add yet another seven for a total of 73), you get a good picture of its importance.

From Jewish kings to Jewish prophets, through Jewish scribes and Jewish apostles, and a doctor named Luke, these words have been the bedrock of solid civilizations for centuries. They are eternal, and should be treated as such.

In fact, based on the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in a series of twelve caves around the site known as Wadi Qumran near the Dead Sea and the Jordan River, between 1946 and 1956 by Bedouin shepherds and a team of archaeologists, these words have been meticulously passed down to us. They have been the most preserved and accurate of any writings, of any book, available today for mankind.

The Bible then must be that important to read and follow, if the God who brought these words to His creation took so great care in keeping the eternal words alive for us.

You want to know how to live? Read God’s Word.

You want to know what step to take in a decision you seek to make? Read God’s Word.

Don’t let it just sit on your bed stand or living room coffee table, or occupy a prominent spot in your home library, making it look like you are the Christian you want people to think you are.

Or have it on your smart phone with app to look impressive either.

Read it. Believe it. Act on it.

Let His Holy Spirit, the third member of the Holy Trinity, the God-Head, guide your steps each and every day. Have a rock solid, never-changing footing to stand on in this crazy world that tries to change the rules and the belief system constantly.

You want answers? God has them all. Let His truth be known in your life today and every day, Sunday through Saturday.

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” (Hebrews 4:12-13, NASU)

History[edit]
Andy ChrismanMark Harris, Marty Magehee, and Kirk Sullivan originally met when they sang together in Truth, a Contemporary Christian vocal group founded in the late 1960s and directed by Roger Breland. Truth had a rotating roster of four male and four female vocalists. After three representatives from Benson Records attended several Truth concerts in the late 1980s during which Andy, Mark, Marty, and Kirk performed, Benson approached the quartet saying that they wanted to use the guys to create a new male four-member vocal group under the Benson label. "Where There Is Faith", their first single, stayed at No. 1 on the charts for eight weeks, two months before 4Him left Truth. Releasing their self-titled debut in 1990, they blended the traditions of Christian music's past, with modern pop production and practical lyrics.
In 1996, with the release of The Message, 4Him changed their overall sound in an effort to keep pushing the creative limits of the group. The guys replaced the over-the-top orchestrations and choral vocal arrangements with a stripped down, acoustic band approach where one of the guys would sing lead and the other three would sing backing vocals. On 1998’s Obvious, each member took more ownership of their music – becoming more involved in the production and songwriting aspects.
By 2004, all four of the guys reevaluated the future of the ministry. After close to seventeen years together, the members of 4Him decided to embark on solo careers.[1] On September 23, 2006, they performed their final concert at Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile, AL, the city where 4Him’s 17-year journey first started. At that concert, various individuals (including family members, record producers, management, and Truth founder Roger Breland) were recognized for their contributions to 4Him’s ministry.

In 2008, Marty Magehee released his independent solo release, Open, on his website. The first single, "Eyes Wide Open", was released to Christian radio in May 2008. The album also included the song "Runaway Train", which appeared on 4Him's final CD, Encore. He is also producing albums for other artists. In 2011, Magehee is on the faculty of Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, teaching courses in Worship Band, Studio Recording, Beats and Loops, and Songwriting.[3]
Reunions[edit]
After nearly five years apart, the quartet made their first reunion on the K-Love Friends and Family Cruise in January 2009.[4] A one-off concert in West Monroe, LA took place in March, and another reunion happened on Kathy Troccoli's "KT and Friends Cruise" to Alaska in June 2010.[5] In Spring of 2013, 4Him will perform several concerts on a tour dubbed "With One Voice" together with the group Avalon and solo Christian singer songwriter Cindy Morgan. Starting in September 2015, 4Him will begin a 25th anniversary tour.[citation needed]
