Trump Administration Rallies behind March for Life
01-26-2017
CBN News Heather Sells
After years of hiding in the shadows, this year's March for Life is stepping into the spotlight, thanks to support from the President and a campaign aimed at stepping up media coverage.
Tens of thousands of women are expected to participate in Friday's march in Washington, D.C.  The annual event celebrates life and protests abortion and the 1973 Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade, which legalized it.
In a show of support from the administration, Vice President Mike Pence will address the thousands of pro-life at the march this Friday.  Pence's address is historic, as this is the first time a Vice President will ever speak at the March for Life event.
“Honored to meet with pro-life leaders tonight,” Pence tweeted Thursday. “I look forward to addressing National [March for Life] on Friday.”
Pence will be one of two Trump administration officials to address the crowd in the nation’s capital. Senior advisor Kellyanne Conway will speak at the March for Life and President Trump even promoted the event in a Wednesday interview with ABC's David Muir.
The president turned the tables on the anchor, who asked the President if he could hear the voices from last Saturday's Women's March on Washington at the White House.  That march attracted hundreds of thousands of women but repulsed many pro-life women when it removed a pro-life group from its partner list and actively promoted its pro-abortion agenda.
The president told Muir that he didn't hear the women at the Saturday march but pointed Muir to the March for Life (which opposes abortion) saying "you're gonna have a large crowd on Friday too, which is mostly pro-life people."  Trump added "and they say the press doesn't cover them."
Muir looked unsure and responded  that he didn't want to compare crowd sizes.  "What they do say," Trump repeated, "is that the press doesn't cover them."
A new study shows that the president is right and that the mainstream media normally gives scant coverage to the March for Life, especially when contrasted with the coverage that it gave to the Women's March Jan. 21st.
Katie Yoder of NewsBusters reports that the ABC, NBC and CBS broadcast networks covered the Women's March 129 times more than they did the 2016 March for Life.
Yoder says the three networks spent a total of one hour, 15 minutes and 18 seconds on coverage of the Women's March.  However, they only gave 35 seconds to covering the 2016 March for Life.  In 2015, only CBS mentioned the March for Life, giving it just 15 seconds.
The Alliance for Fair Coverage of Life Issues, a group of conservative and pro-life organizations, is calling on the media to cover pro-life issues.   In a statement released this week the alliance noted "this year, ABC, CBS and NBC have no excuse to silence these pro-life voices.  The networks heavily promoted the Women's March on Washington, helping boost its attendance."
The alliance may get its wish this year, given the high-level support from the Trump administration and growing public awareness of media bias.

A 'New Day' for Christians Under Trump Administration? - CBN News Jennifer Wishon

A 'New Day' for Christians Under Trump Administration?

WASHINGTON -- For nearly a decade, it seemed like Washington sent conservative Christians to wander in the wilderness, and now they feel a sense of deliverance.
"The Christians are being treated horribly because we have nobody to represent the Christians," Donald Trump told CBN News shortly before he announced he was running for president.
Throughout his campaign, Trump reinforced his promises and since winning the election he's appointed one Christian conservative after another to his cabinet.
"I will be the greatest representative of the Christians they've had in a long time," Trump continued.
A 'New Day' in Washington
And now the vast majority of evangelicals who helped send him to the White House are ready to reap their rewards. Those include the appointment of pro-life Supreme Court justices and banning late term abortions.
"A baby in the womb that has all its vital organs, has eyelashes and fingernails, can hear and respond to its mothers voice and feel pain deserves legal protection as a member of our human family. And he's agreed to sign that into law," said Penny Nance.
As president of Concerned Women for America, an author and a fierce advocate for the unborn, Nance says it feels like a new day in Washington.
"I really believe God listened to the prayers of the faithful around this country as we reached out one more time and said give us another chance," Nance said.
Freedom to Live Their Faith
There's also an expectation the new president will enforce the constitutional right for Christians to live their faith and obey their consciences. It's an issue that led to an historic turnout on election day.
"I think there's no more important issue at home or abroad than freedom of conscience or religious liberty," said Charles Haynes, founder of the Religious Freedom Center of the Newseum Institute.
"In this country, people seem to get the idea that now in the public square people of faith should be quiet about it, keep it in their homes or their churches or their places of worship but actually that's absurd. I mean, for most believers of any faith, practicing one's faith means practicing it all the time," Haynes continued.
"I don't want to equate persecution in the United States compared to what's taking place in China or anything like that, but you're seeing people of faith squeezed out," said Frank Wolf, fellow at the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative.
"We're finding a hostility in the media. We're finding it's okay to ridicule a Catholic priest or a Christian missionary - they're almost the brunt of a joke," Wolf said.
Christians wished it was a joke when the U.S. Civil Rights Commission issued its September report on religious freedom.
Commission chairman Martin Castro wrote "The phrases 'religious liberty' and 'religious freedom' will stand for nothing except hypocrisy so long as they remain code words for discrimination, intolerance, racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia, Christian supremacy or any form of intolerance."
"This report was appalling to me because it really essentially said, when there's a conflict between principles in our public arena, nondiscrimination for example and religious freedom, guess what? Nondiscrimination always wins, religious freedom never has a voice," Haynes said.
We've entered an era, he says, where the claim of religious freedom is perceived as an effort to deny someone else their rights.
Frustration Turns to Relief
"By using language that suggests that Christians who object or who want accommodation are just by definition bigots is very wrong and dangerous," Haynes continued.
It's a frustration that has turned to relief for Christians with the new arrival of an advocate in the White House and Christians happy with Trump are thrilled with his vice president. Former congressman Frank Wolf served with Mike Pence in the house.
"We have one of finest men that I've ever served with as vice president. Mike Pence is honest, ethical, decent, moral man of great faith and so the opportunity and I think President-elect Trump has been very sympathetic," Wolf said.
He adds that the church needs to keep the lines of communication open with both the new president and Congress to keep this agenda moving in the right direction.

Ben Carson: On Second Thought ... BOB ESCHLIMAN CHARISMA NEWS

Ben Carson: On Second Thought ...

During an interview with FOX News Channel over the weekend, Dr. Ben Carson appeared to backtrack on his decision not to serve in the Trump administration, but to rather counsel President-elect Donald Trump as a Washington, D.C., outsider.
He told "The FOX Report" if, after meeting, the Presidential Transition Team decided to offer him a position in the government, he wouldn't turn it down. The retired neurosurgeon later retweeted a CNN reporter's "Breaking News" tweet about the statement.
Much of Carson's interview, however, was focused on his desire to see a change in the way the American media conducts itself. He called on the liberal mainstream media to hold a "national summit" to discuss how to provide more responsible coverage.
"[T]he media is the only business that is protected by our Constitution," he said. "They are supposed to be on the side of the people, they are not supposed to be distorting the information that they give in order to put forth a particular view point or an ideology and that is what they are doing."
Carson said the summit should focus on coming up with some rules they would agree to abide by, and that those rules would then be made public. Most journalists no longer know the rules anymore, he added, which is why "they act the way they do."
He said this is a message he's already been conveying with young journalists he meets, and he would be more than happy to serve as a moderator for the summit.
Meanwhile, his longtime friend and confidant, Armstrong Williams, wrote about the speculation surrounding whether or not Carson would serve in the Trump administration in an opinion piece written for WorldNetDaily. In it, he wrote:
Running an agency of the government is a management challenge that requires incredible organizational skills and expertise. The president entrusts his Cabinet officials with enormous responsibility and looks to them to master the details and muster the men and women who work within their agencies to accomplish the objectives at hand.
I have no doubt that Dr. Carson would have met and exceeded any challenge set before him and done a fantastic job. However, it's important to keep in mind that you can hire management, but not vision. It's a unique attribute that people either possess or not.

'In a Trump Administration, Israel Will Have a True, Loyal and Lasting Friend' - BOB ESCHLIMAN CHARISMA NEWS

'In a Trump Administration, Israel Will Have a True, Loyal and Lasting Friend'

BOB ESCHLIMAN  CHARISMA NEWS
In the past few days, there have been a number of high-profile slights of Israel that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump doesn't want anyone to think escaped his notice.
Last week, after his eulogy at the funeral of former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres—considered by many to be a "founding father" of the Jewish state—a reference to Jerusalem being part of Israel was stricken from the transcript of President Obama's speech. Then, on Thursday, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization determined the Temple Mount and Western Wall are "exclusively Muslim" holy sites.
Following the latest slap in the face for Israel, Trump said he had to respond. He issued an official statement Friday morning, denouncing both actions.
"I have said on numerous occasions that in a Trump administration, the United States will recognize Jerusalem as the one true capital of Israel," he said. "The United Nations' attempt to disconnect the State of Israel from Jerusalem is a one-sided attempt to ignore Israel's 3,000-year bond to its capital city, and is further evidence of the enormous anti-Israel bias of the UN.
Trump went on to call Jerusalem the "enduring capital of the Jewish people," noting that "an overwhelming majority of Congress" has already voted to recognize just that.
"Further, the decision by the Obama administration to strike the word 'Israel' after the word 'Jerusalem' in the President's prepared text was a capitulation to Israel's enemies, and a posthumous embarrassment to Shimon Peres, whose memory the president was attempting to honor," he added. "In a Trump administration, Israel will have a true, loyal and lasting friend in the United States of America."
