As further details emerge about the horrific terror attack in Southern France, it has been reported that the police officer who took the place of a hostage and was subsequently killed, was a practicing Christian.

Lieutenant Colonel Arnaud Beltrame died on Saturday after voluntarily taking the place of a female hostage during Friday's terrorist attack on a Super U supermarket in Trèbes, southern France. An ISIS-inspired gunman killed Beltrame and three others.

In a tactical move, Col. Beltrame left his phone on as he entered the supermarket so that his colleagues could hear any conversation between him and the terrorist. Tragically, he was shot in the neck by jihadist Radouane Lakdim prior to police storming the supermarket and fatally shooting the Moroccan-born Frenchman.

Rare Dead Sea Scrolls Set to Go on Public Display for First Time in Colorado

A rare segment of the Dead Sea Scrolls is set to go on display at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science this week. Thanks to a donation from the Israel Antiquities Authority, it will be part of the museum’s new “Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit.”

One of the precious scrolls, named Tohorot (Purities), deals with issues of ancient Jewish ritual and will be displayed as part of a preliminary round of 10 scrolls to be exhibited. The scroll on display, which dates back to the late first century B.C, will be shown to the public for the first time in its history.

After three months, the collection of scrolls will be sent back to Israel, and will then be replaced by another set of 10 scrolls. One of the other scrolls, titled Musar leMevin (Instruction to the one who Understands), reportedly contains several apocalyptic messages and was also composed at the end of the first century B.C., as reported by Fox News.

Famous for their historical validation of the Hebrew scriptures, the first Dead Sea Scrolls were first discovered in 1946 and 1947 in the Qumran caves in the Judean desert. Over the next 10 years, several other manuscripts were found. In total, over 1,000 ancient religious texts were discovered.

The huge exhibit in Denver will include 600 artifacts, one of which is a 3-ton stone from the Western Wall.

“This exhibition is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see authentic Dead Sea Scrolls, ancient manuscripts that include the oldest known biblical documents dating back over 2,000 years. The scrolls will be dramatically presented within a massive exhibit case featuring carefully regulated individual chambers, along with the full English translation.”

The overview also briefly explains the monumental significance of these documents in the context of the historicity of the Christian faith.

“The Dead Sea Scrolls represent one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. As the story goes, in 1947, Bedouin goatherders wandered into a cave along the shore of the Dead Sea, near the site of the ancient settlement of Qumran. Concealed within the cave were scrolls that had not been seen for 2,000 years. After extensive excavation, thousands of fragments from more than 900 remarkably preserved scrolls were recovered, leading to decades of extraordinary scrutiny, preservation, debate, and awe.”

An ancient Christian area widely thought to be the site of Jesus' baptism is to be cleared of some 4,000 landmines by Israeli military forces. Christians believe that Qasr al-Yahud, located about 10 kilometers east of Jericho, is the very spot on the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized.

The Baptism of Jesus is recorded in the gospel of Matthew:

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. But John prohibited Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?"

The leather-bound 1620 Llanwnda Bible survived the invasion of Britain during the 1797 Battle of Fishguard. During the fierce battle, the army of 1,400 French and Irish troops raided St Gwyndaf's Church in the Welsh town of Llanwnda and used pages from the Bible to start a fire.

NFL star quarterback Kirk Cousins has turned down a massive new contract agreement with the Redskins because 'God told him to.' The team reportedly offered Cousins a long-term deal including $53 million in guarantees, which he denied. Cousins instead elected to play out 2017 on a one-year deal. 

“I prayed about it and said, ‘Lord, what do you want to do?’ I just didn’t feel at peace about signing a long-term contract. I think the Lord communicates with us in many ways, and one of those ways is through his peace. And I just didn’t feel at peace," Cousins said in a speech at Liberty University, reports For The Win.

“And I do believe that the Lord — at least in my life — likes to use one-year contracts and not long-term contracts. He likes to take me to the edge of the Red Sea and have me see there is water in front of me, there are mountains on either side, and there are Egyptians chasing me from behind."

"And He wants me to sit there for a moment and go, ‘God, You better show up.’ And then He parts the Red Sea and He’s done that time and again in my life, on the football field, and off the football field.”

A horrific story has emerged from Pakistan detailing that a Christian student was beaten to death by Muslim students, simply because he believes in Jesus Christ. "You're a Christian; don't dare sit with us if you want to live," a Muslim student had once told the victim, Sharoon Masih, who was studying at MC Model Boys Government High School in the Vehari area in Punjab, according to the British Pakistani Christian Association, which has reported the killing.

Masih was beaten up by several students on Aug. 27 and died in the classroom. No-one intervened in the killing, and the Head Teacher of the school has now been fired. The prime suspect, a student identified as Muhammad Ahmed Rana, has been arrested.

"My son was a kind-hearted, hard-working and affable boy," the boy's mother said. "He has always been loved by teachers and pupils alike and shared great sorrow that he was being targeted by students at his new school because of his faith."

"Sharoon and I cried every night as he described the daily torture he was subjected to. He only shared details about the violence he was facing. He did not want to upset his father because he had such a caring heart for others."

"The evil boys that hated my child are now refusing to reveal who else was involved in his murder. Nevertheless one day God will have His judgment."

Christian rapper Lecrae has been very honest about his struggles with the Christian faith, much of which comes down to the behaviour of certain Christians, and his confusion with how to reconcile this with the teaching of Christ. But what other factors were at play when Lecrae thought about leaving the faith? 

"Gandhi said it, 'it's not Christ I have a problem with, it's his people,'" the rapper explains. "That was my struggle. I felt so much abuse from organized religion, just because I'm walking in a direction that a lot of them couldn't fathom and can't understand." 

"It really drove me away. Sometimes you throw the baby out with the bathwater. Instead of running away from just the people, you run away from the whole idea of it."

"It's like a person in an abusive relationship, they just like 'I'm done with relationships.'"

Then, Lecrae took a trip to Egypt and quickly realized that God was bigger than all the critical voices. 

"I got to see a 3,000 civilization that weathered storms, and people's faith was intact through all that," he says. "It just made me realize that it's bigger than me, it's bigger than America."

A huge crowd of pro-life supporters have marched on the streets of Dublin to show their opposition to abortion. The theme of this year’s march was “Save the 8th” with record numbers turning out to defend the amendment to the Irish Constitution, reports LifeNews.

“This is an incredible, powerful day, when massive crowds of ordinary people turned out to Save the 8th, to say no to abortion and yes to Life, to tell Leo Varadkar that he would lose this referendum on abortion, because the pro-life majority has arisen and will work night and day to Save the 8th,” said Niamh Uí Bhriain of the Life Institute.

“We were expecting 50,000 but as the Rally moved through Dublin City, up to 80,000 people brought the city to a standstill as they joined in to Save the 8th.”

It has been revealed that cabinet officials attend a weekly Bible study group led by pastor Ralph Drollinger, who has said that he is committed to "making disciples of Christ in the Capitol," according to Fusion.net. The meeting was discovered when Fusion obtained a copy of Energy Secretary Rick Perry's daily schedule. Drollinger has praised the new administration for its power to “change the course of America in ways that are biblical.”

Drollinger, of Capitol Ministries, has also praised now Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who he says “hungers and thirsts for the Scripture," and who defended himself honorably in the senate confirmation hearings. “I’ve had the distinct honor of teaching him on this subject, and many others,” Drollinger said. “There’s nothing more exciting, when you’re a Bible teacher, to see one of the guys you’re working with—to see him or her articulate something you’ve taught them when they’re under the gun.”

Vice President Mike Pence, HUD Secretary Ben Carson, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, Energy Secretary Rick Perry, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, CIA Director Mike Pompeo, nominee for Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, HHS Secretary Tom Price, and Scott Pruitt, head of the Environmental Protection Agency, have all sponsored the Cabinet Bible study.

When Trump announced the nomination of so many Capitol Ministries students to Cabinet positions, Drollinger was delighted. “It follows then that the sudden rise of Pence, Sessions, and Pompeo—all men who are disciples of Jesus Christ—serve to vividly illustrate the truth of 1 Timothy 2:1-4!” he said.

An Iowa bill that would recognize unborn babies as people with human rights, and would protect them from abortion passed a state Senate committee on Monday, according to LifeNews. 

“A large and vocal crowd” attended the hearing on Monday to voice their support and opposition to the measure. The committee gave its initial approval of the bill, moving it to another Senate committee for consideration. 

“The sovereign state of Iowa recognizes that life is valued and protected from the moment of conception,” the bill declares. Pro-life lawyer Rebecca Keissling was one of several pro-lifers who spoke up in support of the bill.

“You’re providing the framework to recognize that the unborn child is a person and also to have a public policy that prefers childbirth over abortion,” Keissling said.
