Hope and Light for Eternity - Dennis McCleod, NZ

Hope and Light for Eternity by Dennis McCleod

Dennis McCleod, New Zealand CFI rep

In the words of Dylan Thomas to his dying father, "Fight against the darkness, don’t give in." There was a time the Light of the World shone brightly. He taught, He debated, and always came out on top, for no darkness can ever quell the light the Lord brings to the lives of people. [John 1:5]

Darkness is only the absence of light. But the Light of Jesus is never absent; He is there at all times and in all places. It is said a person’s heart is full of darkness, [Jeremiah 17:9] which in truth, looking at history, is only because they don’t have Jesus to bring light into their soul. But He is still there, calling, knocking at the door, waiting for His knock to be answered. [Revelation 3:20]

We have the choice to either pull the curtain back to see who is at the door or to open it. Then we can invite Him in or close the door; if we send Him away, it may be our last chance, for we don’t know what tomorrow may bring. [James 4:14] If we accept His hand that reaches out to us, with the words come to me. All who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [Matthew 11:28]
The things that befall us the next day may seem overwhelming, but with Jesus in our lives, we can overcome all things. [Philippines 4:11-13] Maybe for a time we feel all has left us, but deep down there is a light, a love that lifts the soul so we can see a future, not just now but into the far-off promise. [John 14:3]
As the years pass, the things of life build up to become a wall that seems to block our path. We look left and right, and there is no end to the wall in any direction. We look up, and it is too high to climb. There is no way forward; we are without hope, but then we look and see that Jesus has broken down the wall of partition [Ephesians 2:14] therefore, He can break down any wall that separates us from the truth of the Word that can light up our path [Psalm 119:105] when we call upon His name. [Romans 10:13]

Throughout history, there has always been a person raised up by God to speak about the light. People like Paul, once a hater of the Followers of the Way, who suffered and died for the truth of the Word and what Jesus stood and died for. [Romans 8:12-17]
There were the Church fathers in the early years of Ireland who lived the lives of hermits, so they could get closer to the Lord. John Hus of Bohemia spoke to the crowds about faith by confession and not by works [Ephesians 2:8] he was a light to the word of God, illuminating it into the lives of the people.
The authorities tried to silence the message of hope that He spoke from the scriptures by burning him at the stake. This act of terror against the truth did not silence it but set it ablaze for following generations, proving that the darkness can never blot out the true light.
Then came Luther, a man for the times, and the authorities also tried to extinguish this flame, teachings burnt, people killed, but a fire of the Lord can never be doused out once lit. Others followed, Tyndale, who was murdered, and Knox was put to work as a galley slave.
The Wesley brothers, who, they say, prevented a bloodbath during the English Revolution. In the early part of the 20th century, there came the Welsh revival, which emptied prisons, put police out of work, and hospitals had far fewer patients than normal. Billy Graham filled stadiums worldwide with the message of light and hope, and the list goes on with people bringing light to the lives of thousands.

Now, Gen Z, the generation of computer games and TV screens, people said, were lost. But not so, there are revivals taking place in many parts of the world. Assisting in this came a man called Charlie Kirk, who spoke and brought hope and light to thousands, a man who stood firm on the Word of God. The darkness may be thinking it has removed the flame in Utah, but as I said, the darkness can never douse the light of the Lord.
Charlie Kirk
The light of Charlie Kirk did not start with him, nor will it end with his death. Has anyone ever tried to put out an oil fire with water? If you have, then you know how useless it is, so to try to extinguish God’s light from spreading by removing one person is an impossibility. In fact, it can have the opposite effect, as has been proven many times down through history. They killed Jesus, thinking that was the end. [John 11:50] However, on the third day, [Luke 24:2-9] a ripple started to flow around the world, which continues to this day, and the death of all martyrs has kept that ripple going near and far.
We come and we go, [Job 14:10] but the truth of the Word continues forever, [Isaiah 40:8] and no evil act can ever bring it to an end. The truth started before time began and will be here for eternity. [Matthew 24:35] For this, we can be forever grateful knowing this life may end, but eternity has been won for us through Jesus, the sacrificial Lamb, the Light of the world, that no darkness can ever remove because the Lord has won the battle against the darkness that once kept us in bondage. [John 8:36]

He Gives Us Signs - Steve Martin, Love For His People Ministry

A truck, heading north on I-77 from Rock Hill, SC, to Charlotte, NC.

He Gives Us Signs

“So, Gideon said to Him, “If now I have found favor in Your sight, then show me a sign that it is You who speak with me.” Judges 6:17, NASB

An excellent Bible teacher by the name of Bob Mumford, whom I first heard of during the “discipleship, shepherding, and commitment days” (for me, those were the years 1977-1994), had a book entitled Take Another Look at Guidance. A worthwhile read for those seeking to understand how our heavenly Father guides us in His ways and purposes for our individual lives. I have based many decisions on Mumford’s recommendations.

If you are not so inclined to check it out (but I highly recommend that you do), I will help you.

From Bible.org:

Bob Mumford in Take Another Look at Guidance, compares discovering God’s will with a sea captain’s docking procedure: A certain harbor in Italy can be reached only by sailing up a narrow channel between dangerous rocks and shoals. Over the years, many ships have been wrecked, and navigation is hazardous. To guide the ships safely into port, three lights have been mounted on three huge poles in the harbor. When the three lights are perfectly lined up and seen as one, the ship can safely proceed up the narrow channel. If the pilot sees two or three lights, he knows he’s off course and in danger.

three lights are perfectly lined up and seen as one, the ship can safely proceed up the narrow channel. If the pilot sees two or three lights, he knows he’s off course and in danger.

God has also provided three beacons to guide us. The same rules of navigation apply—the three lights must be lined up before it is safe for us to proceed. The three harbor lights of guidance are:

1. The Word of God (objective standard)

2. The Holy Spirit (subjective witness)

3. Circumstances (divine providence)

Together, they assure us that the directions we’ve received are from God and will lead us safely along his way.

- Gregory Asimakoupoulos

Bob Mumford, Take Another Look at Guidance.

Again, the three harbors’ lights are: the Word, the Holy Spirit, and circumstances.

All throughout Scripture, from Adam to Moses to Gideon to Mary to those gathered in the Upper Room on Pentecost (on the Lord’s feast known as Shavuot), the Lord gave His people signs.

Being He knows all, He certainly knows that sometimes things are not so apparent as He would hope they would be for us.

I encourage you to seek the Lord in your daily decisions, to learn how He speaks, what He speaks, and when He speaks, so you too can more fully know of His plans and purposes for you.

Do not be like those who missed the Messiah Yeshua HaMashiach, when He came the first time. Even though they looked for signs, they failed to see the One who was right before their eyes.

“But though He had performed so many signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him.” John 12:37, NASB

And then again in Hebrews 2:3-4, Complete Jewish Bible, it reads: “…then how will we escape if we ignore such a great deliverance? This deliverance, which was first declared by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him; while God also bore witness to it with various signs, wonders and miracles, and with gifts of the Ruach HaKodesh which he distributed as he chose.”

Be one who follows, even chases, after the Lord, to better know Him. There is so much that He wants to show you of Himself and how much He wants to give you guidance.

 Ahava and Shalom,

Steve Martin

P.S. I saw a “sign” on Friday, June 13, 2025, as a good friend and I were driving north on I-77 from Rock Hill, SC, to Charlotte, NC. And so, I took the photo to share with others.

The Great Falling Away - Steve Martin

The Great Falling Away - Steve Martin

“Adonai said to Gid‘on, “I will use the three hundred men who lapped the water to save you; I will hand Midyan over to you. Let all these others go back home.” (Judges 7:7-8 Complete Jewish Bible)

There is a great falling away coming from among those who once walked with the Lord. In fact, it has already started. For decades, it was “popular” to be a Christian. Not so anymore, especially when one considers the numbers who attend a weekly church service. Looking around any given Sunday morning gathering, and in most churches you will see mostly grey hairs; and they are dying off. Sure, there are those churches that are doing well among the youth, but that is an exception. We give thanks for them.

After a major crisis occurs in a nation, the pews do fill back up. But within a few months, or even weeks, the “Crisis Christians” no longer come around. It is back to normal as usual. (We may still have the “C & E” group – Christmas and Easter, but even those numbers are dwindling fast.)

The apostle Paul said that in the end of days there would be a great falling away. We are living in those times.

"Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.

Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.

Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.

Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 NASU)

Lest you become fearful, and wonder what is going to happen when so many are gone, let me share a little insight with you. It will inspire you in faith, I believe.

The Lord seems to allow for the reduction of numbers when He has a job that needs to get done. Unlike humans, more is not always better. As my good wife Laurie likes to remind me on certain occasions, “Less is more.” My accounting mind doesn’t always see it that way, but it is true.

Let’s look at a few instances in the Word of God, and see how the Lord chooses to accomplish His purpose, and achieve the final victory.

Take what happened when the Lord decided to flood the earth. He saved a remnant, Noah’s family of eight (Noah, his wife, three sons and their wives) and repopulated the earth with those alone. Looks like that worked.

And what about Gideon’s army, when it came time to defeat the Mideonites? Gideon took as many warriors as he had available, starting with 32,000. By the time the Lord had set up a few tests, the number was finalized at 300. With those remaining, the job got done. Victory was won.

Yeshua (Jesus) chose only 12 who would walk with Him for a little more than three years. Then He released them (even knowing one would be replaced by another) into the world. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, those twelve apostles changed the world.

Jesus also fed the multitudes, with very little. “All we have with us,” they said, “is five loaves of bread and two fish.” He said, “Bring them here to me.” After instructing the crowds to sit down on the grass, he took the five loaves and the two fish and, looking up toward heaven, made a b’rakhah (Hebrew – i.e. gave thanks). Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the talmidim (Hebrew – i.e. disciples), who gave them to the crowds. They all ate as much as they wanted, and they took up twelve baskets full of the pieces left over. Those eating numbered about five thousand men, plus women and children.” (Matthew 14:17-21, Complete Jewish Bible)

The Creator of the Universe can get the job done with very few.

What about the 144,000 in Revelation of Jesus (Revelation 7:4)? That sure is something to consider.

“I heard the count of those who were sealed: 144,000! They were sealed out of every Tribe of Israel: 12,000 sealed from Judah, 12,000 from Reuben, 12,000 from Gad, 12,000 from Asher, 12,000 from Naphtali, 12,000 from Manasseh, 12,000 from Simeon, 12,000 from Levi, 12,000 from Issachar, 12,000 from Zebulun, 12,000 from Joseph, 12,000 sealed from Benjamin." (Revelations 7:4-8 THE MESSAGE)

There is a great falling away that is coming through the Christian ranks. It will remove the lukewarm as the Lord Himself is going to weed them out. I believe He will then emblaze the remnant with His Holy Ghost fire, and show the world Who is the King of kings and Lord of lords. In the process, millions during that time, yet to be saved for all of eternity, will come into His kingdom, gathered from all the nations.

Are you going to be one of the few? As the Marine’s would say in their motto, I pray you are.

By His grace you will keep committed and stay faithful to the end. It is going to be a battle, but He wins. Stay on His side.

“Cross the River” – Time To Act by Steve Martin

“Cross the River” – Time To Act
“Now when all the nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying, ” Take for yourselves twelve men from the people, one man from each tribe, and command them, saying, ‘Take up for yourselves twelve stones from here out of the middle of the Jordan, from the place where the priests’ feet are standing firm, and carry them over with you and lay them down in the lodging place where you will lodge tonight.'” Joshua 4:1-3, NASU
“Cross the river.” That is what I heard in my thoughts, but I knew Who spoke it.
He spoke those three words this morning, and so I will be looking for what river the Holy Spirit is directing me to cross.
I appreciate how the Lord speaks to us. For some, His Word of direction, encouragement, assignment, or inspiration may come from a Bible verse. This is a very good way of receiving, direct from His eternal, foundational Word. It is known as the “logos” of God.
Other times He will give us His Word through “rhema” – a spoken word from a prophetic message or, dare we think, something we might even hear through TV, video on the Internet, or heaven forbid, a Hollywood produced movie, and when heard we think, “Hmmm. There is something about that which I just heard.”
The Bible says He used a donkey (jack…), didn’t He? Why not one from Hollywood? (“Just sayin.” As they say here in the South. America.)
So, when I heard these words, “Cross the river” as a thought which came into my mind, I knew it was the voice of the Good Shepherd, as I have become accustomed to hearing. Ever so quiet at times.
As I personally thought of the three words more later, I believe it can be a physical crossing, a spiritual crossing, or both. Prophetic words many times are that way – having both natural and spiritual fulfillment when they come to pass.
What has He been speaking to you these days? Are you listening? Have you put yourself in a place to listen? Will you then act on what He tells you, or dismiss it as just random thoughts?
I encourage you to be looking, to be listening, to be acting on what the Living God of Israel is speaking. He may use thunder. He may use lightening, as He promised to give us signs in the heavens in these last days.
“But immediately following the trouble of those times, the sun will grow dark, the moon will stop shining, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in heaven will be shaken.” Matthew 24:29, Complete Jewish Bible
He may use your young child to express a word of encouragement, or directive, most needed in your life this day. He is giving even dreams and visions to many as He promised to do.
As Peter declared in Acts 2:17-21, quoting from the Hebrew prophet Joel, “’And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, “That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord be saved.“ NKJV
It is time to act on that which you have been told by the Lord.

Hashem made the expanse, and it separated the water which was below the expanse from the water which was above the expanse.

Be Inspired By the Word of God

In Jewish tradition, the Bible is often compared to water. Just as water promotes physical growth in the agricultural world, so too does studying the Bible promote spiritual growth and development. The Land of Israel serves as the perfect backdrop for demonstrating the significance and necessity of water. Rain, especially in desert lands such as Israel, has the ability to transform desolate deserts into flourishing, lush land. Similarly, studying the Bible can fill voids in the hearts and souls of anyone who allows themselves to be inspired by the word of God.
