"Always Turn the Cheek?" So What Do You Do? by Steve Martin

Always Turn the Cheek?
So What Do You Do?
Steve Martin

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'  But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.” (Matthew 5:38-39, NKJV)

“Love, love, love. All you need is love” were popular song lyrics growing up in the ‘60s and ‘70s, made famous by a foursome who needs no introduction. So, I won’t. At one time they declared they were more popular than God. I wonder what some of them believe now.

In this edition of “So What Do You Do?” I want to write of another common thought that has been held by believers in the Living God for far too long. It is that false misconception that Christians are to simply allow others to walk over them, give out “love, love, love’, and all will be just dandy.

Jesus Himself did say, as quoted above, “whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.” And yet when the Sadducees and the Pharisees spoke out loudly against Him in the public market, what did He do? In Matthew 12:34, He spoke right back at them, “You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.” (NASU)

Jesus was no coward and did not walk in fear.

There are plenty of examples in the full Bible, including what we call the Old Testament, where God the Father, whom the Son of God revealed to us when He, Jesus, walked this earth, destroyed those who broke His laws and killed His people. Did He just “turn the other cheek” and let His everlasting love overrule His righteous acts of judgment? He certainly did not.

God the Father and Yeshua (Jesus) are the same. “I and the Father are one," Jesus said. (John 10:30, NASU)

We are to take the whole Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, as the roadmap to life. One verse doesn’t give the entire picture of the Lord’s heart. If we are to know Him and follow after Him, we must understand Him and His ways.

When people and nations resist, reject, and seek to remove the eternal laws that the God of the Universe has put in place, for our protection and well-being, we also are not just to turn the other cheek and let them have their way. While we are certainly to pray against the forces of darkness that envelope the hearts and minds of people, at the same time we must take proper and righteous stands to uphold what we know to be right.

Am I calling for civil war? No. Am I seeking to speak the truth and be heard? Yes.

We are called to speak out against those who seek to murder unborn babies; steal and destroy the lives of innocent children for sexual pleasure; and force on us ungodly social media propaganda as “rights” people have.

We are called to stand against anti-Semitism and racism.

When we allow “whatever will be to be”, we continue to lose the solid ground founded on true freedom, of living within safeguards in place for both ourselves and our children. When we let the ungodly take over our schools, government, and religious institutions in the name of “tolerance” and unholy “love”, we face the reality that our choice in seeking and obeying the heavenly Father will no longer be allowed, as it will “inhibit the freedom” of others, or so they will have us to believe.

When we let down our guard, and not give any resistance to those who seek to take away what we have been given by God to us, we will have no one to blame but ourselves.

There are times when we are to turn the cheek and take what comes as being believers in the Lord. They hated Him. They will and do hate us.

There are also times when He will direct us to stand up, declare the truth, and not back down when the enemy comes at us. I wouldn’t let someone come into my house and kill my family without putting up a fight. Neither should you.

Our American founding fathers fought the good fight – literally behind the pulpit and on the front lines. So did our grandfathers, grandmothers, fathers, and mothers give their lives to stop evil from taking over other nations.

Martyrs throughout history gave their lives speaking out against those siding with the devil, who was killing, stealing, and destroying lives.

I expect to be martyred someday. Many of our fellow brothers and sisters in other nations are already giving their lives even now as they have lived for the Lord and now die in His arms. But until that day comes, I will not go down, sitting around, letting our world go to hell, without putting up the glorious fight of faith.

Be one wanting to know His full ways, always, and then share them with the world He has put us in.

'This is Not Mythology': Archaeologists Dig Up the Bible at Ancient City of Shiloh - CBN News Chris Mitchell

'This is Not Mythology': Archaeologists Dig Up the Bible at Ancient City of Shiloh
07-12-2019
CBN News Chris Mitchell
Help CBN News reach more people with the Christian Perspective on today's headlines – please share this story with your friends.
JERUSALEM, Israel – Driving along the route known as the Way of the Patriarchs in Samaria, the heart of biblical Israel, you'll come to ancient Shiloh.

The Bible says this is the place where Joshua parceled out the Promised Land to the 12 tribes of Israel. It's also where the Tabernacle of the Lord stood for more than 300 years.
Dr. Scott Stripling directs the excavations at Shiloh. Along with dozens of volunteers, he and his crew are digging into history.

"Welcome to ancient Shiloh," Stripling greeted us. "This is the first capital of ancient Israel and it's a sacred spot because the Mishkan was here, the Tabernacle, where people came to connect with God."

"We're dealing with real people, real places, real events," he continued. "This is not mythology. The coins that we excavated today – we're talking about coins of Herod the Great, Pontius Pilate, Thestos, Felix, Agrippa the First, Agrippa the Second. The Bible talks about these people. We've got the image right here."
That 'image' includes a fortified wall built by the Canaanites. The team finds a treasure trove of artifacts there, which includes ancient coins and some 2,000 pieces of pottery a day.

"Now, this one was from yesterday," he said. "It's been washed already so you see the same form right out of the ground in yesterday and those are those handles from the stone vessels. Remember, Jesus' first miracle in Cana? There were stone jars full of water. That's that ritual purity culture of the first century."
An archaeologist like Dr. Stripling looks at these shards as a fine time piece.

"Just like your great grandmother's pottery is different from your pottery that you're using today…once we learn the pottery, then we can use it as our primary means of dating."

Stripling says literally digging into the Bible can change your life."
"You can read the Bible, you can walk the Bible, but the ultimate is to dig the Bible," he said. "You know, when we actually get into the swill, like these students from Lea University. They're literally – it's under their fingernails and in their nose and in their mouth and their ears and they're exposing this ancient culture. It becomes one with you. It's sort of like we came out of the soil and as we dig into the soil, we connect with God and with each other, I think, in a very important way," he said.

Abigail Leavitt, a student at the University of Pikesville, serves as object registrar.
"I love getting my hands dirty. I love digging in the dirt. It's my favorite thing," she told CBN News.
While people of all age volunteer at the dig, the main drivers are students like Abigail.
"It's tiring and exhausting, but it's really rewarding," she said. "It's exciting to find ancient things – things that have been just waiting for us for thousands of years."

Leavitt says the Bible comes alive in the dirt.
"I read the Bible totally differently than I did before I came here, and I can see when I read the Bible I know the places, I know what's going on. I understand it more deeply, especially where previous archaeologists have claimed the archaeology disproves the Bible. But when we dig here, we find that everything matches. You read it in the Bible. You dig in the dirt and there it is," she said.
Stripling said, "Archaeology doesn't set out to prove or disprove the Bible. What we want to do is to illuminate the biblical text, the background of the text, so to set it in a real world culture to what we call verisimilitude," he explained.
"So, we get an ancient literary description. Now, we have a material culture that matches that," he continued. "Chris, you're sitting where Samuel and Eli and Hannah and these people that we have read about, they came just like us, needing answers, needing to connect with God, needing forgiveness."
Stripling says they dig into the past and find lessons for the present.
"One of the faith lessons for us is that God is the potter and we are the clay. And even if our lives are broken like these vessels are, God told Jeremiah after He had told him to go to Shiloh and see what He had done, He told him to go to the potter's house and look at a flawed vessel and see how the potter puts it back on the wheel and works out the imperfections. So my faith lesson is this: Yes we're imperfect, but if we will allow God, He wants to put us [on] His potter's wheel and make us a vessel of honor."
Stripling often cites Psalm 102.
"O Zion, your servants take delight in its stones and favor its dust." (Ps. 102:14)
"For me this is sacred soil. This is where the Mishkan was that answers the most basic of all human questions: 'How do I connect with God?' And I think that's their most basic question," he said.
"I know I messed up. I know that God is holy. How do I bridge that gap when I sin against other people, when I sin against God. Ultimately, Chris, if the Bible is true, then the God of the Bible has a moral claim on our lives. And as we establish the veracity of the biblical text, I hope that everyone watching would just think about that – that God loves us and He has a moral claim on our lives."

Strength For Israel's 1st gathering in the Barn! - July 5, 2019 in Fort Mill, SC

Mordecai (Maynard) Porter blows the shofar!

On Friday, July 5, 2019, the first Friday of the month gathering of the Strength For Israel for Shabbat occurred. Over 55 people presented themselves to the Lord, to receive His ahava (love) and shalom (peace) in The Barn at Antioch International Church in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

After the greeting by leader David Peterman, Shabbat candles were lit by Luana Peterman, wife of David. Steve & Laurie Martin then led the people in worship, joined by Tommy Lopez (keyboard), Doug Goff (bass guitar), Tom Fahey (electric and acoustic guitars), Mike Stephens (percussion), and Steve Hammer Niewulis, all the way from Hickory, North Carolina, on the drums. That was after he had only a few hours notice! Luana Peterman and Tiffany Bryant also sang beautifully with the team.

David Peterman then spoke on "Ancient Paths", as some in USA Christian churches are now saying that the Old Testament has no relevance for today, and need not be read. Wrong! The entire Bible, Scripture, is for believers today and must be read, understood, and honored if we are to follow in the Lord's ways and be His disciples.

When I got home after the meeting, I had received a text from a dear friend and decided to share my response to her with you.

We give thanks to Abba, God the Father, Yeshua (Jesus) and Ruach HaKodesh, the Holy Spirit for coming!

Open letter to Cathy Hargett, Founder of Highway To Zion in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Saturday, July 6, 2019 12:34 am

Good morning, Cathy.

Thanks for your text you sent last night at 10:17 pm, after Laurie and I had gone to bed. Because a text response may have woken you up, I am emailing a response instead.

I appreciate your words, "there was an anointing on your worship that I think I would call "His authority".

Personally, I believe the Lord is not only giving Laurie and me, but also David and Luana Peterman, a new anointing for Strength For Israel. When we decided a few months ago that the Lord would have us move it from the "basement" (lower level room in Antioch) to the main auditorium Barn, after being down there a year and a half, even then we felt it would be going to the next level - literally too!

With that comes greater anointing from the Lord, and as you said, new authority to go with it.

We will be impacting the church, the neighborhood, and the cities around us, as the Lord is giving us a new platform to do that, in Him, for them.

Shabbat Shalom!

Steve

If you are in the Charlotte, North Carolina in August, plan on coming Aug. 2, 2109 (every 1st Friday night of the month at 7 pm) to our next gathering. Info here: Strength For Israel. Plan on coming even if you live outside of the city or state!

Here are some more photos from the Strength For Israel gathering July 5, 2019.

“Wounded" - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

“Wounded"

"Praised be God, Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, compassionate Father, God of all encouragement and comfort; who encourages us in all our trials, so that we can encourage others in whatever trials they may be undergoing with the encouragement we ourselves have received from God." (2 Corinthians 1:3-4, Complete Jewish Bible)

Being wounded in life is a universal experience shared by all. It doesn't make it any easier to bear or walk out of, but the truth is we all have been and quite possibly will continue to be hurt by people, situations, or circumstances. Often it may not be our fault. At times, well, yes it is. Be honest now.

There are so many situations we have experienced growing up in our family and communities. For some, not having a family was the beginning of the wound. And then being passed around, as many foster children are, just adds more hurt to that which is already embedded into the spirit, soul, and even body.

How we deal with the wound determines if it will actually go away or not, or be healed from causing lasting injury. Drugs are often prescribed to heal a wound buried deep into our psychic, when it is actually the spirit that either needs to be healed, or even cast out (as in deliverance of evil spirits.) Doctors who are not believers in the supernatural have no understanding of that which can only be healed through the Blood of Jesus. Drugs often only cover up. His blood-drenched stripes bring the healing - in spirit, soul, and body.

"Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:4-5, NKJV)

When one studies the sacrificial trial, whipping, and death by crucifixion which Jesus (Yeshua) undertook on our behalf, you get a deeper understanding that every area that had been, is being or would come to mankind, in spirit, soul, and the body was endured by Him. Every hurt, scourge, wound He went through during those Passover days was for our benefit, the Sacrificial Lamb, in order that we might receive the healing that only comes through His shed Blood.

I recently shared with another some of my experiences of being wounded over the years. Not so they would feel sorry for me. Forgiveness, which then brought healing, had already taken place on my part, by the grace of God. No, it was to help them see that what they had gone through, in part, was to not only see the love of God the Father working on their behalf, but also to now be able to share that same comfort and encouragement with others who have, or will, walk through that same experience.

We have not been saved from hell to just keep us out of hell, but we have been saved, and now called and anointed, to be vessels of the Lord's love, forgiveness, and healing with those He brings us into contact with. His actions done for us were not just to keep it to ourselves, but to then share it with others.

Isn't that what it means to be part of the "Body of Christ"?

We will be wounded. We will be hurt. We will have many opportunities to become embittered, rejected, and remain in that if we choose. But we don't have to. We have been given the means to receive healing, and then to pass it on.

That old fireside song, "It Only Takes A Spark", may seem a bit quirky now, but if you have that spark, there are many people who need to get a bit of it in their life too.

Call upon the Name of the Lord Jesus. He is our Healer.

My prayer is that wounds received will become grace and compassion from which we can give. If each of us did our part, wouldn't that put a smile on the Lord's face? Wouldn't that put a smile in His heart? And wouldn't that help someone overcome being wounded, and get back into what the Lord has planned for them?

Yes, it will.

Now think on this, and see what good things the Lord has in store for you and those around you.
