STANDING FOR TRUTH IN A WORLD OF DECEPTION - Now Think On This – Book 4 are more messages that I have written for the Love For His People and Now Think On This blogs.They cover a variety of topics to encourage you, believers in Jesus, in your daily walk, while standing firmly committed for His plans and purposes in our nations.

As the Lord would give me a word or two in my spirit, I would begin to write what more followed. With a prophetic and inspirational edge, I trust that these messages will be an encouragement to you to stand strong in your faith, fulfill the call on your life, and be a light to the nations, beginning in your own family.

These simple words are meant to be an addition to your daily Bible reading and prayer time. With the days growing darker, each of us must be built up in the faith of our forefathers and the Jewish writers of the Written Word, as they were inspired by the Holy Spirit.

We must stand strong for truth in this world of deception surrounding us.

Here are a few of the 24 chapter titles:  Well Done,  Happy To Be God’s Treasure,  Expressions & Diversity,  Perspective, No More Restraints, Expectations,  Heart Growing Cold, Martyrdom, and Perception.

This is my 9th published book. By now I am quite sure you have read the previous ones, but if not, you can find them on the right and left hand columns of this blog. All are available on Amazon in print and Kindle versions. Or check the Martin Lighthouse Publishing page with this blog. The link is in the top left hand corner.

And thank you to those who have enjoyed my writings. I delight to use this gift of the Lord for His purposes.

Be blessed,

Steve Martin

The Supreme Court and the Mark of the Beast - Rick Joyner

Prophetic Bulletin by Rick Joyner

The Supreme Court and the Mark of the Beast

Printer-friendly version
MorningStar Prophetic Bulletin #93 - April 30, 2015
     In Revelation 13 it is prophesied that at the end of the age there will be a false prophet that arises to prepare for and give power to one called “the beast.” This “beast” deceives the nations and requires all to take a mark, 666. Without this mark no one can “buy, sell, or trade.” This “mark of the beast” has been a dominant subject in eschatology (the study of biblical prophecies of the end of the age) since the first century, and many things have been called this that turned out not to be so. However, we know it will come, and it may be upon us.
     Few events in history have so remarkably fit the biblical scenario of this mark as the potential U.S. Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage. As bizarre as this may sound, this is an uncanny parallel to the biblical prophecy. Even if this is not the actual mark of the beast, it is at least a precursor, a “dress rehearsal” that sets up the world for this ultimate test.

Understanding “The Beast”
     First, taking the mark of the beast is not the sin, but rather worshipping the beast. The mark is just the evidence of what one is doing. So to understand the mark, we must first understand the beast.
     This “beast” has been presumed by many Bible scholars to be an individual, such as the “antichrist” figure. He is also called the “man of sin,” or “abomination of desolation” prophesied by Daniel. Others have seen it as a system, a world power such as a world bureaucracy. Some have believed it to be the spirit that dominates the world at the end of the age. Some have concluded that it could come in all of these forms. There may be some merit to all of these assumptions, but the principles given in Scripture for identifying the nature of the beast are clear enough for any seeker of truth to discern it, regardless of the form in which it comes.
     This beast “comes up out of the earth,” which is a term for “earthly mindedness.” Such is the root of what is popularly referred to as “secular humanism.” This is the philosophy, perspective, or “worldview” promoting the exaltation of man, his wisdom and abilities, above God. This philosophy presumes that man does not need God and should not consider Him as a factor in human affairs even if He does exist.
     Because man was created at the end of the sixth day, the number six is often symbolic of man in Scripture. For this reason, many have presumed that the number 666, or three sixes, was man’s attempt to displace the Trinity, and could fit with this belief.
     The “abomination of desolation” that was prophesied by Daniel, Jesus, and the first century apostles could have been translated “the abomination that desolates.” Because homosexuality is referred to as an abomination in Scripture, and its impact on Western culture is so quickly and profoundly desolating the moral fabric of Western civilization, it is to be expected that many will start to consider this “the abomination that desolates.”
     Who could have dreamed just two decades ago that we would have major cities celebrating “Days of Decadence” with all manner of perversions being performed and flaunted openly in our streets? Who would have thought that such a moral and religious nation could fall so quickly to the ultimate national depravity spoken of in Isaiah 5—calling what God calls “good,” “evil,” and what God calls “evil,” “good,” while the dishonorable are honored and the honorable are dishonored? Is that not precisely what has happened to America in just the last generation?
     The meltdown of morality in our military could be happening even faster. Just a few years ago, the U.S. military was such a bastion of morality and integrity that adultery was considered grounds for dismissal because one’s vows had been broken. “Don’t ask, don’t tell” was the handwriting on the wall that a devastating change was coming. But who could have foreseen the pace of the desolation of our military since homosexuality was openly allowed in the ranks? It moved quickly from everyone having to accept it, to everyone having to celebrate it if you expected any further promotions, to now being forced out if you do not celebrate it.
     Christians are now openly discriminated against, if not persecuted, in the U.S. military. Not only are some of the best and brightest leaving the military, they are no longer choosing it as a possible career.
     The same is taking place throughout government services on all levels, as well as corporations, education, and the media, as was once the case for a long time in arts and entertainment. Now, with a single Supreme Court decision it could be that Christians, Muslims, and Jews that honor their books as the word of God will not be able to “buy, sell, or trade” in America without the constant threat of losing your business, or your position and livelihood, because of an offended homosexual.
     Even if this is not “the mark of the beast,” it will be for those who are now losing what they, in some cases, have given their lives to build, because they would not compromise their religious convictions in order to buy, sell, or trade. If the Supreme Court decision falls the way it is expected to, we can be sure that very soon every Christian in America will have to make a similar choice between obeying the Word of God or this beast.

The Great Awakening
     The good news is that few things have begun to wake up the sleeping giant of the church like this issue now before the U.S. Supreme Court. A growing number of the most influential leaders across the spectrum of Christianity are now calling for civil disobedience if the Supreme Court rules that same-sex marriage is a constitutional right to be enforced throughout America.
     Regardless of what caveats the Supreme Court may add to their decision to feign protection of our freedom of religion, an ultimate firewall that protects all of our freedoms will have been breached. Six thousand years of recorded history where marriage was always between a man and woman will have been overturned. Already there are applications for threesomes to be married, and polygamy at any level will have to be accepted. We also have applications filed for some to “marry” their animals. Voices within the gay agenda have declared that they see nothing wrong with pedophilia. One bad decision for our Supreme Court and America’s slide into depravity will then have been greased, and we will go down fast, unless…

Saving America
     America’s slide to this point of moral depravity seems to have happened quickly, but it didn’t. It is the result of a very intentional, systematic erosion of our values that has been going on for almost a century. Only recently has the momentum of this evil strategy gained speed as we enter into the last phase of what the perpetrators boasted would destroy America from within.
     This strategy has been very public on the part of several major groups, who will end up fighting each other over the spoils if they succeed. But for now, we must focus on what will stop and then reverse this momentum in order to restore the foundations America was built upon.
     President Reagan was at least partially right when he said, “Government is not the answer, it is the problem.” Our salvation will not come from the White House, or any other state house. It can only come from the church house. If the church in America does not rise up to become the salt and light she is called to be, there is no remedy, and an ever-deepening darkness will continue to spread over our land with increasing speed and devastation. The encouragement is that the biggest sleeping giant of all is starting to wake up.
     When I was in Washington recently, a congressman said to me that there would be more courage in Washington if they saw more courage in the church. He said they do not feel that the church has their back. The church in America must ultimately accept the blame for what has happened in America, but it can also be the solution. Following are the four major crises in the church that are also the basis of the major crises of our times, as identified at a recent roundtable of leaders of national and international stature:
We have a crisis of courage.
   This is the failure of Christian leaders to address the crucial issues of our times with clarity and boldness.
We have a crisis of a lack of moral excellence in the church.
   This has robbed the church of its moral authority.
We have a crisis of Christian disengagement from our civic responsibilities.
   This has robbed the world of the salt and light capable of preventing its corruption and dominance by evil.
We have a crisis of a lack of the church’s preparation for the inevitable challenges of our times.
   This will cost loss of lives, and it will cost many the greatest honor we can receive for our lives—hearing,“Well done, good and faithful servant”(see Matthew 25:21 NIV).
   The church is called to be the salt and light in this world, and this meltdown has happened on our watch. We must take responsibility, and we must take action. If we will take responsibility, acknowledge our failures, which is repentance, and become what we are called to be, this great failure can become one of our biggest victories, and our nation can be saved. If the church does not do this, we do not have much time left.
   When the Iron Curtain fell, the church was not ready. The cults and crooks were ready, and they filled the vacuum. The week following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, churches were flooded with their biggest crowds in history. The church was not ready, did not have the answers, and another one of the greatest opportunities in recent times was lost. The next strike will be our third, and we cannot fail this greatest of all responsibilities and opportunities. If we do, it will very likely be our last chance.

What Do We Do?

First:
     We must decide now that we are going to obey God and that we will refuse to obey any mandate from any power that is in conflict with God’s Word. We must be prepared to pay the price for obeying God, which is likely to be significant and can affect the rest of our lives. Of course, the price of not obeying Him will be much higher and eternal, so we need to determine now who we will serve.
     For such a choice, we need to be clear about what God’s Word says on these ultimate issues. As the Lord said through Isaiah the prophet, if we do not speak according to His Word then we do not have the light. Each of us must choose whether we believe His Word or not. Then we must choose if we will obey it or not. We can expect these choices to both prune and purify the church. What remains of the church will likely be much smaller, but it will be far more powerful.
     Accepting that The Bible is God’s Word to us is a major issue for all who claim to be Christians. Many have accepted the constant attacks on the validity of the written Word by the enemies of the faith. The very first lie of Satan was to get Eve to doubt what God had clearly said, and this has been his basic tactic since causing the fall of multitudes. Make no mistake about it—this is the point at which we will fall or stand.
     Let us consider that if Jesus, who was the Word, would take His stand on “It is written!” how much more must we? Now is the time for all Christians to decide this issue. If we are going to follow Christ, we must believe His Word, fortify ourselves in His Word, and obey it.
     Many Christians have bought Satan’s lie that would cause them to doubt what God has clearly said. Doing so makes it even easier for them to buy into the teachings that blur what God has made clear on just about any issue. Those who have done this will soon fall away. This will be a major factor separating the true from the false.
     The next major factor that will likely cause many to fall away will be the fear of man, or caring more about what people think than what God thinks. The first group cast into the lake of fire at the end of the Book of Revelation is the cowardly. We can expect many who know the Word of God to fall into this category, because they fear men more than God. In Scripture that is an idolatry also called “an abomination,” as is the one who turns their ear from hearing the Word of God (see Proverbs 28:9).

Second:
     We must strengthen our own foundations, especially those under specific attack. The most important of these is the family. This is the most basic and important of all units within a culture or nation. Family is under relentless attack now, not just the definition of it.
     A happy, functioning family is one of the greatest lights. Being part of a happy, functioning family is one of the greatest experiences we can have in this life. Being in a dysfunctional family is at the root of our most devastating social problems.
     We must also teach and esteem manhood and womanhood, with all of the dignity and nobility they are given by God in the Scriptures. After getting one to disbelieve that The Bible is the Word of God, the devil’s basic tactic is to blur the distinctions that God has made clear. If we are going to be lights in our time, we have to stand against the spirit of this age and esteem men who are men, and women who are women.

Third:
     We must call what God calls “sin and wickedness,” sin and wickedness, and we must repent of it ourselves. God does not forgive excuses—He forgives sin that is repented of. We’re not repenting if we are making excuses, or blaming someone else for the way we are.
     Homosexuality is called an “abomination” in Scripture. Abominations are weightier than other sins because they are so destructive that they bring desolation. Now let’s consider some other things that are also called “abominations” in Scripture:

lying
spreading strife
using unjust weights
devising evil plans
worshipping idols
a proud heart
the way of the wicked
the devious
acting unjustly
those who scoff (ridicule)
shedding innocent blood
wearing clothing of the opposite sex
those who justify the wicked while condemning the righteous
sacrifices made to God by those living in wickedness
those who choose (vote for?) those who are of “no account”
those who oppress the poor and needy, rob, or fail to keep their word

    Now, who has never committed an abomination? If you claim you have not, you are likely guilty of the abomination of lying. So what do we do? We do not say everyone is okay because everyone is guilty, which is an ultimate folly that we are warned against. The Word of God is clear in places like Galatians 5 that such will not inherit the kingdom of God.
    What we do is: We first get the log out of our own eye if we are guilty of, or are still practicing, any of these. Then we judge those who are trapped in sin for the purpose of their redemption, reconciliation to God, and their restoration from sin and its consequences.

Fourth:
      This is not last because it is the least important, but because it is the most important. We must grow in love for God and one another. We are told, “Love never fails” (see I Corinthians 13:8), which could have been translated, “Love never quits.” Anyone will quit at some level except for those who are in love.
      We must love God above all to love all as we should. “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing,” and this is the main thing we are called to do. This will be the main thing that determines if we will be successful human beings or not when we come to the great Judgment Day.
      We are also commanded to love our enemies. The gay agenda has turned into the biggest enemy of Christianity in America at this time. Extreme elements within the agenda are resolved to drive Christians into “the closet,” just as they were forced to live for so long. Other enemies of Christianity are joining with them in seeking to drive Christ out of our culture. This is the definition of “antichrist.” Even so, we are told that our war is “not against flesh and blood” (see Ephesians 6:12), or people, but against the spiritual forces that have them in bondage.
      We are also told that we, Christians, have been given divinely powerful weapons that can bring down every stronghold exalting itself against the knowledge of God (see II Corinthians 10:4). We will address this in a future Bulletin, but this is a battle we cannot lose if we follow “the Captain of the host,” or the Captain of God’s armies.
      We must keep in mind that during the greatest times of darkness, the Lord raised up His greatest lights. Some of those greatest lights were those who came out of darkness, like Paul the Apostle. Paul was possibly the greatest enemy of the church for a time, and he was transformed into possibly the greatest friend of God and builder of the church.
     Let us keep in mind that even those who, at this time, may be in the greatest opposition to God and His truth, if saved, can become some of the greatest champions of the faith. The transformation of the enemies of God into friends of God is the greatest victory of all. This will happen to many if the present followers of Christ will stand up as the champions of the faith we are called to be. We are here now for such a time as this, and it is now our turn.

Prophecy: A Storm Is Coming - SPIRITLED WOMAN, Lisa Great

Prophecy: A Storm Is Coming

I believe God is sending warning signals to His people all over the world right now, telling them a storm is coming. ((Flickr/MattysFlicks))

Spirit-Led Woman
The year A.D. 2015 according to the Gregorian calendar, or 5775 according to the Hebrew calendar, is the Year of the Whirlwind. It is a year when everything is about to change, there is acceleration of events. For some it is going to be very exciting times, whereas for others it is going to be very challenging times. The line is being drawn in the sand and you will be on one side or the other, when the winds blow.
I live in the Midwest, and here we have a warning signal that goes off on the first Wednesday of the month at 1 PM, as a test to make sure the signal is working and so people know what the warning signal sounds like. I believe God is sending warning signals to His people all over the world right now, telling them a storm is coming. We see it on the news with the rise of various terrorist organizations, we see it in our falling gas prices, we hear about it through events in Ferguson, Missouri; Paris, France; and Malaysian airplanes. Jonathan Cahn wrote about it in his book called TheHarbinger, Mark Biltz speaks of it in his book called Blood Moons, and the Bible is talking about in Luke 6:46-49.
The Bible tells us that we are to be able to understand the seasons we are living in. I believe we are living in the best of times and the worst of times. I also believe our choices determine which of these times we are and will be living in. But God is giving us plenty of warning signals that the storm is coming, so we can make adjustments in preparation for the storm. If we can see the dark clouds forming, the wind picking up and can smell the rain, it is time to prepare for the storm.
I have known for a while and have been speaking that a storm is coming, but I never could pinpoint what it was going to do. Some people speak only judgment, while others speak only glory and good things, I was torn between the two thoughts, knowing it was both, but I was unable to discern what the purpose of the storm was. Then today as I was reading my Bible, the Lord revealed to me that the storm is coming to reveal our foundation. Luke 6:46 says, "Why do you call me, Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say?" This is not a rhetorical question, Jesus is making a statement of truth: Many call Him Lord, Lord, but very few actually do what He says. Jesus is asking us, right now, today, why do you call me Lord, Lord, (master, owner, authority) and not do what I say?
As I was meditating on this question, the Lord spoke to me and said, "It takes courage to follow Me." Many people follow leaders, pastors, other people they can see, but very few are following the Lord, for to follow Him takes courage. Jesus went on in this passage to describe two houses, one was built on a foundation, the other was built on the ground. To lay a foundation, you have to dig deep down to the rock, but to build on the ground, no digging is required, all you have to do is start building. Both are houses, both look the same on the outside, but when the storm hits, one will stand and the other will collapse.
A storm is coming, what you have built your house on will be seen, for the storm is coming to expose what is under the house, which most cannot see. Without discernment you cannot know what something is built on, for it looks like a house to the naked eye, but the storm is coming and some houses will stand and others will collapse.
The foundation that will withstand the storm is relationship. A love relationship with the Lord casts out fear (1 John 4:18), builds trust and produces obedience. The only foundation that will withstand the coming storm is one of love, for if you have not love, you are nothing (1 Cor. 13:1-3). Without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6) and faith works by love (Gal. 5:6), so you have faith, hope and love, but still the greatest of these is love (1 Cor. 13:13). A storm is coming, but love wins!

GLIMMERS - From the Preface of "THE HEART OF A KING" (c) Morris E. Ruddick

GLIMMERS

From the Preface of "THE HEART OF A KING"

(c) Morris E. Ruddick

Note from Morris:

Let me begin this post with a request. Tuesday is Veterans Day. As a Vietnam-era Marine vet, I've had some unusual insights lately into the significance of how the Lord used that "old season" in my life to prepare me for the season we are now walking out -- in Vietnam.

I've enjoyed the special bond with many of you who are vets. However, I suspect there are some of you who are vets or are married to vets or have family/ ones you are close to who are vets, who I'm not aware of your/ their service.

If so, please pop me a reply and let me know -- that I may send you a short, but special message I'm preparing for my fellow vets for this Tuesday.

Shifting gears, the thrust of spiritual burdens I have carried over the last few years, along with the associated answers I have sought in my prayer closet might be summed up in two key words: leadership and revival. Maybe it's three: leadership, revival and strategy.

In the Kingdom those words are entwined. Those whom our ministry places highest priority on serving, are those who have served in genuinely walking through the fire: those believers persecuted for their faith and those in lands with a heritage of cultures dominated by witchcraft.

These are serious times. While we are among the many within US boundaries, encouraged by the signs reflected by the recent elections, the reality is that there remains much to be done. It begins and ends with our time in God's presence and with serious intercession.

So, within the context of understanding the times and knowing what to do, the answers and the response indeed can be summed up with: Kingdom leadership, strategy and revival.

Spiritually, we walk a fine line. Yet, that fine line defines the dividing asunder between revival, true outpourings of God Spirit -- and the leadership response, the strategy that pays the cost to actuate it.

When darkness prevails and is on the move, the response, as it is in our day,  is very serious business. If you haven't noticed lately, the fires have been stoked and the fiery darts aimed at those known by His Name have been multiplied. We are marching toward the fulfillment of Isaiah 60, as God restores His order and the evil one frantically tries to prevent it. What is seen in these steps is a mere shadow of the realities.

The burdens we carry, from those we've been with recently from Africa to Asia, to our brethren in Israel and Eastern Europe, each of whom are pioneers and forerunners has triggered a recall of this piece written five years ago. I made it the Preface to one of my deepest compilations of truth, having been forged from the prayers and work we do with those walking through the fire.

As I've already noted, these are serious times. We covet your prayers, for the missions we undertake and for those we serve to strengthen and equip us and them, for what at times seem like overwhelming odds.

Yet, as I emerge from my mid-watch of prayer -- refreshed from the "glimmers" I've received from the presence of the Lord -- I pray that the message of this piece will encourage you to prevail and not grow weary from the evil that has been manifesting in every sector of the earth today.

Again, this issue of SIGN is the Preface of my 2010 book: "The Heart of a King." One of our friends commented: "My progress in reading 'The Heart of a King' was a bit slow, as I had to stop frequently to praise God, repent, pray, or just express joy or soberness with the content of the pages."

I trust the message and anointing from the Preface of this book will release the glimmers needed -- that's all it takes from His presence -- as you reach for that "something more" to reshape your priorities and take you over the top in the calling you steward.

While being a member of SIGN is a special reflection of your service to the Kingdom, please remember to let me know of your -- or any of your family member's service in-arms to our/ your nation.

Morris
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In extraordinary times, knowing-what-to-do takes something more. That something more is what distinguishes true leadership. If we can just get the door sufficiently open to get a glimmer from God, it will be enough. It will be that "something more" that makes a difference. The following chapters of this book are a collection of "glimmers" that I've drawn from my time of prayer, of seeking the Lord for answers to the times.
This book targets a select audience of men and women of God called to be the movers and shakers for the times upon us. Much like Joseph and Daniel, their destinies come with a high cost. Likewise, the pathway is narrow. The calling is one that follows the description of Jesus' followers in Acts 17 of "turning the world upside down."
This volume is a sequel to my two previous books about this calling. Reading "The Joseph-Daniel Calling" and "God's Economy, Israel and the Nations" is strongly recommended before savoring the "glimmers" contained in this book.
The defining dimension to this calling is the heart of a king. With the need to grasp the setting and face the realities, what follows provides a glimpse into what incorporates the heart of a king in God's kingdom. The heart of a king is not patterned after the ways of the world. There are realities to the calling and the cost it upholds. There are realities to the times.
The Keys of Release
Having recently arrived back from an agenda in Southeast Asia, spiritually I was depleted and spent. A key part of our effort targets lands of persecution. We had been on the go, almost non-stop for over four months; encountering a vast array of spiritual hurdles and challenges, along with almost 60,000 miles traveled during that time frame. So with our return, all I wanted to do was veg out and recover. Yet hardly out of jet lag, I received an unexpected and incredibly difficult intercessory assignment.
As I embraced this mission, in the spirit I found myself being led into a deep, dark place with the keys to unlock shackles and lead out ones who had been immobilized in their quests to reach their high-callings. Night after night the Lord showed me ones I have been acquainted with, who bear high callings, who spiritually had been stymied along their pathways. Not due to any fault of their own, in one way or another, each had faced seemingly insurmountable barriers or become casualties in the spiritual battles raging.
One example was my dear friend David Works. In December of 2007, the Works family became victims of a tragedy-beyond-words that took place in their church parking lot. Attacked by a deranged young man firing an assault rifle, two of his teenage daughters were killed and David seriously wounded.
Understandably following this tragic event, David and his family had found a safe place in their coming to terms with its impact. However, having known and spent years praying with David prior to this tragedy, I knew this safe place lacked the vision of his calling as a modern-day Joseph. So I recently challenged him on reclaiming his significant calling.
David began doing just that. Then midway through my intense prayer initiative, David dropped by with some news. The day prior was the second anniversary of the tragedy. His church had held a special memorial service. What David eagerly shared was a newspaper article about the memorial service. In big headline print were the words: "Our Dream is Coming Back." Indeed, his dream and high calling are coming back.
There were other friends and associates the Lord showed me to target during this unusual time of prayer; who spiritually experienced set-backs from the mark of the high calling on their lives. In each case, they have been leaders. In each case, they were at a critical threshold in terms of embracing a new and key dimension to their callings. Some bore the callings to release still others; such as the leaders we've worked with in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
The Realities of the Spiritual Environment
As I progressed through these extremely intense encounters in prayer, I became keenly aware of the environment those being released would be reentering.
The best way I can describe this spiritual atmosphere is that it is filled with danger, duplicity and intrigue; not unlike the era during 16th century England in the years following Henry VIII's death, when there was a vicious and deadly quest for power from within the Tudor Court. It was a time when the lust for power capitalized on and perverted otherwise genuine leadership efforts. It was a time when it took great courage to put your hand to the plow and keep it there.
Similarly, in today's spiritual atmosphere, in keeping with the unusual developments underway in global seats of power; I became very conscious of a jockeying for power taking place within circles of believers. The generation now assuming their mantles face a toxic spiritual setting perhaps summed up best by a book title I recently came across: "Hemlock at Vespers."
The Courage to Come Forth
Like the understandable response of my friend David, there is a safe place, which is sometimes needed to regroup and heal. However, while it may be safe from certain levels of the dangers, it also maintains the enticements and protective machinations of the soul response, hindering what had begun in the Spirit as the pathway of the high calling.
The issue involves looking back rather than forward; of being immobilized from facing the realities and embracing the high calling. The message of this book is for those reaching for the mark, whose aim is nothing short of completing in the Spirit what was begun in the Spirit.
The Heart of a King
There indeed is a great battle taking place within the Body today. It reflects a transfer of the mantle between generations. With that transfer is a struggle reflecting the fine line between the good and the perfect will of God; between the soul and the spirit; the measures defining kingdom success; and the venturing forth from the safe places into the places of risk that carry the potential of impacting eternity. It is a calling of leadership for those with a heart of a king.
What's key in the parallel of the Tudor Court power-struggle to today's spiritual turbulence was what followed, when England became united under the leadership of Queen Elizabeth I. Then came a time when Philip II of Spain, saw his empire as the worldly arm of the Roman Catholic Church. Seeing himself as the sword to undo the Reformation and reunite Europe in a single faith, Philip became obsessed with conquering England. Henry VIII had led England out of the church. Now his daughter Elizabeth was defending her father's reformation. Philip, honing his blade in 1581, was at their shores with his 'invincible Armada.'
England's greatest weapon, however, was the selfless leadership of its queen. Now in her mid-fifties, she had ruled England for thirty years and was skilled in the use of power. She knew how to use the crown, and, in that hour of national peril, how to mobilize her people. Unlike the divisions created by the ambitions of unworthy aspirants to the power of the throne during the interim after her father's death, Elizabeth united her people to stand against the Spanish invasion.
While the Armada was still off England, dramatically riding up on a white horse, Queen Elizabeth, known among the people as "Good Queen Bess," reviewed the army and addressed them with these stirring words:
"Let tyrants fear. I have always so behaved myself that, under God, I have placed my chiefest strength and safeguard in the loyal hearts and goodwill of my subjects; and therefore I am come amongst you, resolved, in the midst of the heat of the battle, to live or die amongst you, to lay down for my God, and for my kingdom, and for my people, my honor and my blood, even in the dust. I know I have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too, and think foul scorn that Parma or Spain or any prince of Europe should dare to invade the borders of my realm; to which, rather than any dishonor shall grow by me, I myself will take up arms, I myself will be your general, judge and rewarder of every one of your virtues in the field." (Source: Winston Churchill, "Churchill's History of the English Speaking Peoples," Barnes & Noble, 1995)
Good Queen Bess' words exude the true heart of a king. Indeed, let tyrants fear, along with the misguided and the lawless interlopers whose human efforts impede the true work of the Spirit. A line has been crossed. The stakes are far higher than in the days of Elizabeth. The clash of all ages is before us. These are times of monumental change.
These are times that cry out for true leadership in the Body; the type that unites and mobilizes. It comes from a calling not to be treated lightly or with presumption. It is a leadership of sacrifice, but one that is not reckless. The goal of the high calling involves lethal realities and demands a wisdom that avoids the entrapments and diversions.
Those bearing this mantle have been prepared by God. They are unwilling to acquiesce to the safe places that fall short; or be seduced by the rule of power or the rule of profit that lures those called by His Name into the intrigues and games played by the world.
They are a remnant whose calling is directly from God; not presumption, ambition or any other quest emerging from the heart of man. It is a calling that excludes the pretenders, wannabes, interlopers and tyrants. The heart and identity defining this remnant is inexorably tied to God.
These are the ones with the leadership mantle of Joseph and Daniel, who are facing the realities, paying the cost and faithfully stewarding their callings of bringing forth God's Kingdom. These are the ones who will themselves receive the keys to release His Kingdom in their domains. These are the ones with the heart of a King. These are the ones for whom this book has been written.
GLIMMERS
...of Kingdom insights for the times
In extraordinary times, there are no ordinary answers
...and sacrifice will mark the pathway
When freedom flounders; truth stabilizes
When tyranny undermines; liberty unmasks
When self-interest entices; commitment perseveres
When disorder advances;  wisdom redirects
When fear invades; courage takes its stand
When destiny calls; true leaders arise.
I Refuse to Accept the Status-Quo American Version of Christianity
Bible
(Esther Gibbons/creationswap.com)
I refuse to believe that what we see in churches across America is what God planned for His people. I refuse to believe that it is the God-intended norm.
The Word of God is against it.
Church history is against it.
What the Spirit is doing around the world is against it.
What I have experienced in my own life is against it.
Everything inside of me is shouting, "There must be more! We must go deeper!" Is that same voice shouting inside of you?
If the death and resurrection of Jesus are real—and they are—there must be more. If the outpouring of the Spirit is real—and it is—there must be more. If the promises of God are real—and they are—there must be more. If the requirements of the Lord are real—and they are—there must be more.
It's high time that we quit trying to drag the Word of God down to our level of experience and commitment, trying to conform Scripture to our ways rather than conforming our ways to Scripture. Instead, we need to take hold of everything He has promised and everything He has called us to, and, by His grace, pursue and obey Him until His reality becomes our reality.
What does God's reality look like? What is normal according to the Word? As I have said for many years, what the world calls fanaticism and most of the church calls extremism, God calls normal. In the words of Leonard Ravenhill, "Christianity today is so subnormal that if any Christian began to act like a normal New Testament Christian, he would be considered abnormal."
What does normal look like according to Jesus?
"Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it" (Matt. 10:37-39, ESV).
What does normal look like according to Paul? (Let's remember that Paul told us to follow his example; see 1 Cor. 11:1, Phil. 4:9.)
"It is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Phil. 1:20-21).
Unfortunately, as expressed by Watchman Nee, "By the time the average Christian gets his temperature up to normal, everybody thinks he has a fever."
I say it's time we burn—in fact, the Word commands us to be fervent (which means red-hot) in spirit in Romans 12:11—so that others can catch fire as well.
They can call us crazy, judge us as religious extremists and put us out of their company. But if we walk in humility, if we bless and don't curse, if we honor those in authority while determining to obey the Lord no matter what, the fruit of our lives will be the proof of God's goodness. And people will come flocking to us saying, "I need what you have. How can I experience more of God in my life?"
Missionary C. T. Studd once said, "If Jesus Christ be God, and died for me, then no sacrifice can be too great for me to make for Him." This is the reality we must live by.
The glorious Son of God shed His blood on our behalf, dying for our sins so we could belong to God, bringing us into His family as brothers and sisters. His Father is now our Father, and we are joint heirs with Him. (See Romans 8:14-17.)
And that's only the beginning. "He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?" (Rom 8:32) All things!
That is the glorious gospel. How should we respond?
Jesus says to us, "Follow me"—and that means that all that we have, all that we are and all that we ever could be belongs to Him. We now live to do His will, our eyes set on Him, and our life goal to know Him and make Him known, regardless of cost or consequence.
That is normal according to the New Testament.
As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians, Jesus died for all so that "those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised" (2 Cor. 5:15).
Or as he said to the Colossians, "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God" (Col. 3:1-3).
Or as expressed by Peter, we are to live "for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God" (1 Pet. 4:2).
This is beautiful, not binding, our act of gratitude as recipients of grace, not our futile effort to receive His grace. And because of that grace and mercy, we belong totally to Him: "Therefore," Paul writes, "I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice–alive, holy, and pleasing to God–which is your reasonable service" (or "your spiritual worship"—Rom. 12:1, NET).
So let us crucify every distraction, let us count ourselves dead to sin and alive to God, let us ask the Spirit to work afresh in our lives and let us take hold of the challenge that fueled the fires of D. L. Moody's life, spoken to him by revivalist Henry Varley: "Moody, the world has yet to see what God will do with a man fully consecrated to him."
Isn't it time that our nation sees what God will do with a man or woman fully consecrated to Him? Isn't it time that our generation has a true demonstration of the gospel?
Join in me striving to be normal in the Lord's sight, by the grace and power of God.
It's time.
