"Are You Praying God's Way?" Bill Yount, The Elijah List

March 14, 2019

"Are You Praying God's Way?"
Bill Yount, Hagerstown, MD

Intro from Bill Yount:

Steve ShultzI have rediscovered a missing part of my prayer life. It's been years since I tasted it. It's when you pray and there's a sweet release of its burden with no need to pray any further because you have God's peace on it. I believe many are praying themselves into depression over their families and nations. This kind of praying is not Scriptural. I believe our prayer time should result in unspeakable joy.

I want to share this word that I released in 2015. I now remember the missing ingredient that I had forgotten with all the warfare raging against us. I believe it's Heaven's protocol for prayer. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

"Are You Praying God's Way?"
Bill Yount, Hagerstown, MD

I released this word a few years ago, but I believe it is so needed now. With all the praying are we praying God's way?

Return to Sender!

In the Spirit, I saw many prayers ascending upward toward the throne. I sensed that many of these prayers were being prayed according to the Father's perfect will. Many were prayers for gifts, callings, and destinies to be manifested. A majority were bundles of prayers for the lost, especially for family members. Many of these prayer requests were made up of strong cries day and night, and with fasting, that had become heavy burdens on hearts over the years.

As these prayers began to ascend, they seemed to go only so far and then would drop back down to Earth as though they were bouncing off the ceiling from where they were being prayed. I saw in Heaven something like a huge "heavenly post office," where prayer requests are received and where answers to prayers are sent out. At the entrance of this "heavenly post office" there was a front door on which was written, in gigantic letters, the Scripture found in Philippians 4:6, "Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with 'thanksgiving' let your request be made known unto God!" (emphasis added).

As huge bundles of prayer requests came through the front door on the way to the throne room, I was appalled by how many requests were being stopped and never made it to the throne for answers. I heard a voice that shook me. An angelic postmaster general proclaimed, "These prayer requests have no 'postage' on them. Return to sender!"

In the Spirit I saw these huge bundles of prayer requests like letters that had no postage stamps on them. These could go no farther! The ones I did see going on into the throne room to be answered had postage stamps of "thanksgiving" on them. These ones became "priority" mail inside the throne room, and immediate confirmation of peace was sent to the sender with the following verse: "And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7).

Before the answer of these prayers were manifested on Earth, the people that sent their requests with thanksgiving were receiving the assurance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen. Because of the peace of God, they were receiving through the giving of thanks.

There Can't Be Thanksgiving Until There's Believing

Many prayers for lost loved ones never really reached their "heavenly" destination, not because people weren't praying, but because they simply were not believing that they would receive what they were asking for. Therefore, to be thankful was very difficult for them.
The Lord seemed to say, "Tell My people that many have already prayed and prayed and filled Heaven with their prayers for the lost and their loved ones. They actually need to stop praying and simply believe ME to save them."

"...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house!" (Acts 16:31 emphasis added)

I sensed the Father saying, "Many are carrying a false responsibility, feeling that they are responsible to get their family members saved. May I remind you that you could not save your own self, and therefore, you cannot save anybody else. And since I saved you, I can save anyone!

Many who were faithfully praying for family members for many years were actually praying themselves into a state of depression. I sense the Spirit saying, "This kind of praying is not Scriptural! Begin to believe and start thanking Me that I am going to save them now. Thank Me that I am going to bring in the lost. Just send up some stamps of 'thanksgiving,' and I will stamp your prayer requests to forward them to the throne.

Start living as though your prayers are already answered!

"As you are thanking Me, go ahead and start treating your lost loved ones as though they are already saved. When you do, your life will become so full of thanksgiving and praise and worship, that you will begin to see My heavenly 'UPS' and 'FED EX' arrive, bringing speedy delivery from Heaven to impossible requests upon the earth. Praise and worship moves Me to do outrageous acts of blessings upon the earth!"

You Will Never See It if You Don't Believe It

I remembered when Peter was put in prison and the church was praying for his deliverance. There was also a prayer meeting going on for Peter in a woman's house. Her name was Mary. As the angel came and delivered Peter, he made a straight run to Mary's house. I believe he felt the power of their prayers.

As Peter knocked on Mary's front door, a handmaiden, Rhoda, answered the door and got so excited, she forgot to let Peter in. Rhoda ran inside that prayer meeting shouting, "Peter is at the front door!" (Acts 12:14). For some reason they didn't seem to hear her. Perhaps someone was giving a strong prophetic utterance about Peter's "soon" release. Again, I can hear Rhoda shouting something like, "Our answered prayer is at the front door. We can stop praying!"

Finally, Rhoda gets the prayer group's attention, and here is the spiritual temperature inside that prayer room – here is what they say to Rhoda: "It is his angel." In other words, "We don't believe it!" (Acts 12:15).

You can pray for a hundred years, but unless you believe that you are going to receive what you are asking for, you will never see it. "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (Mark 11:24 NIV).

I personally believe there are some prayer meetings that need to be broken up. Many churches have prayer meetings, but few have "prayer-believing" meetings. It was easier for Peter to get out of prison than it was for him to get inside that prayer meeting.

Our Thanksgiving Proves Our Faith

Next time you pray, try putting a postage stamp of "thanksgiving" on your request. I promise you, you will enjoy prayer time much more, and you'll probably live much longer!

As a father, when my children thank me for something in advance, it's hard for me to get out of giving it to them! Prayer with thanksgiving proves to God that we believe we are going to receive what we are asking for. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Why Christians Need to Cover Mike Pence in Prayer This Week - JNN/VISION FOR ISRAEL

(U.S. Air Force photo/Wesley Farnsworth)

Standing With Israel

Why Christians Need to Cover Mike Pence in Prayer This Week

United States Vice President Mike Pence will travel to the Middle East Jan. 19-23, with other stops in Egypt and Jordan to meet with their leaders.
In Israel on the last two days of the trip, the vice president is scheduled to meet jointly with Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin, and to address the Knesset. He also is scheduled to visit the Western Wall and Yad Vashem.
Palestinian leaders refuse to meet with Pence in the wake of President Donald Trump's recognition last month of Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Pence postponed a planned mid-December visit to Israel so he could preside over the vote on a tax overhaul favored by Trump.
The original trip had included meetings in Bethlehem with Palestinian Authority officials. On the newly scheduled trip, prior to visiting Israel, Pence will meet in Egypt on Jan. 20, 2018, with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and in Jordan on Jan. 21, 2018, with King Abdullah II. At President Trump's direction, the vice president is traveling to the Middle East to reaffirm the commitment to work with the USA's allies in the region to defeat radicalism that threatens future generations. The vice president is looking forward to meeting with the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, and Israel to discuss ways to work together to fight terrorism and improve our national security," according to JTA.
Once again, please pray for visiting Pence. May his words be God-given and anointed with wisdom. Intercede for traveling mercies, divine protection and a sense of welcome in his travels.

Aim for the Target - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Aim for the Target

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim;” (1 Corinthians 9:26, NASU)

Aiming to hit the mark is the purpose of anyone seeking to put the arrow where it will count the most. Setting our purpose on the Lord’s will is just as important – wanting to get it right on the bull’s eye in order to make the most of His plan for us. Sometimes we get it right on. Sometimes not.

Though He knows the road ahead of us it falls on us to make the intentional purpose to know it for ourselves. Whether you are 20 or 60, we won’t know for ourselves unless we use the mapping equipment He gives us. These tools are available to us so we can walk down the right road, and be in the center of His plan.

Over the years I have watched how others seek the Lord; what they have taught in their pursuit of Him and how they have discerned His plan for them. Though the goal is not the exact same for everyone, for each has his place to fulfill, the ways given to reach that goal are so. We can reach the target. We can walk in His way.

When seeking the Lord for direction, the tools given to us include knowing His Word, the Bible, hearing His voice through prayer, and hearing the instructions taught by others. Receiving a prophetic word and understanding circumstances are also part of the mix. The Lord wants us to know His will for us. He makes all these avenues available to those who want to know it.

In His Word, accurately passed down through the centuries, He has provided examples of His working in the lives of those who have gone before us.

“Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.” (1 Corinthians 10:11-12, NASU) Common to all through the lives of these were the temptations, trials, and opportunities to see the Lord move, even as they are in our lives. We can learn from them. Reading His Word on a regular basis enables us to understand more because of them. We don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

Prayer, communicating with the Lord, gives us the opportunity to speak our heart to Him on matters, and in return hear His heart on these concerns. With His Holy Spirit as our Comforter and Guide, impressions received and obvious responses to our prayers show us He is acting on our behalf. Seeing His hand in daily input encourages us to seek Him often and with thanksgiving in our asking and acknowledging.

Being with other believers, receiving wisdom and encouragement from them in matters we need clarity on, certainly helps guide our steps. Input given through them through teaching, either from their own experiences or having gained insight through the teaching of others, is a vital asset in knowing the Lord’s will for our lives. Someone who has walked the path further and longer carries with them insight that others don’t have as yet. Accepting their life’s wisdom helps us to avoid pitfalls, and get closer to our destination in safety and fulfillment.

“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” (Proverbs 11:14, NKJV)

Being a strong believer in personal, prophetic words as another form of God’s guidance, I have received words spoken into my life which either prepared me for the years ahead, or encouraged me in the midst of trials and fog when I needed a sure word from the Lord. Receiving these words has allowed me to use all aspects of the Holy Spirit’s methods of showing me the way, whether it be through another with the prophetic gift, by a dream, or given through a supernatural act that didn’t “just happen”, but was a sign giving instruction to me. I consider any and all ways of the Lord’s voice coming my way to be received and discerned for its full purpose. He freely gives these to all who are open to receive them.

The Lord wants us to know which way to go and how to get there. Practicing in a consistent way the methods He has given us will make us more certain when He speaks and how to respond to His leading. We must know Him to know His ways and walk in them. Then we can be confident of the direction we are heading.

Our faith will be strengthened and encouraged in our pursuit of Him, as we continue to aim for the target. He will show us the way to go.

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).

4 Key Characteristics of a Faithful Christian - SHANE IDLEMAN CHARISMA NEWS

A faithful Christian keeps God's Word despite setbacks. (Unsplash/Priscilla Du Preez)

4 Key Characteristics of a Faithful Christian

SHANE IDLEMAN  CHARISMA NEWS
Although many godly traits are attributed to faithfulness, these four are vitally important. How can we increase faith and serve God with all of our heart? Here are just four ways:
1. Holiness is a priority. Charles Spurgeon rightly noted, "There will be three effects of nearness to Jesus—humility, happiness and holiness." If these three are not present, hard questions need to be asked: "Do I have a rebellious spirit? Do I love the things of the world more than the things of God? Have I let bitterness and pride set in?" We have to fight for holiness; our relationship with God is dependent upon it. Holiness produces faith and spiritual power; carnality produces faithlessness and a life void of spiritual power
Carnality gives God "His due"—a few hours on Sunday—but forgets His call to "come out from among them (the world) and be separate." Holiness is a fire burning deep within. Do we stoke the flames and increase the heat or continually put them out? We are so "stoked" when it comes to the things of the world, but why not the things of God?
Carnality quenches the fire of the Spirit and dries up the rivers of living water. We cannot love both Christ and this world. A carnal Christian does not pray, really pray and seek the heart of God. A deep prayer life exposes facades and crushes hypocrisy. A carnal Christian does not worship, really worship in total abandonment. Deep, penetrating worship cannot take place in a carnal heart until repentance takes place.
You won't find those who are carnal at prayer nights or worship mornings, but you will find them spending much of their time at Cinemark and the Mall. Check your calendar and checkbook. Where are your priorities?
If this is you, allow God to awaken and restore: "Therefore repent and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord" (Acts 3:19).
Do you desire peace and joy again? Simply return to God: "You shall seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart" (Jer. 29:13). Full surrender is the fertile ground for seeds of joy and peace.
2. God's Word is the source of authority. A faithful Christian is not continually looking for advice outside of God's Word. Too often. we look to Merrill Lynch for financial advice, a local nail salon for marriage counseling and guys at work about how to prioritize our lives. Look to God for the final say; He is the "wonderful Counselor."
3. Reliance on God's strength, not man's."My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness" (2 Cor. 12:9b). God will often break us down in order to build us up. He'll take away our strength (what we have been trusting in) so we look to Him and Him alone. The refiner's fire involves fire and heat. The waves of change involve being plummeted, tossed and turned: "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed" (2 Cor. 4:8-9).
God reminds, "When you pass through waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame kindle on you. For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior" (Isa. 43:2-3a). God is always the fourth man in the fire (see Dan. 3:25).
4. Keep His Word despite setbacks. Faithful Christians keep the course regardless of the storm, regardless of the criticism, regardless of the heat. We must teach perseverance. Many theologians are divided on the timing of the rapture, or if it will occur at all. Telling people, "Don't worry. You'll be out of here before it gets hard," is inconsistent with those who are suffering in other countries. And it does not prepare people for tribulation, challenges and difficult times. One thing we do know for certain is that Christ will return. In Rev. 3:11, He says, "Look, I am coming quickly. Hold firmly to what you have, so that no one may take your crown." The message of hope is always urgent.
Christian Heritage Fellowship offers a riveting example of why we should not wait to share the good news: On Sunday night, Oct. 8, 1871, D. L. Moody, preached to the largest congregation that he had yet addressed in Chicago. His text that evening was, "What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?" At the conclusion of his sermon he said, "I wish you would take this text home with you and turn it over in your minds during the week, and next Sabbath we will come to Calvary and the cross, and we will decide what to do with Jesus of Nazareth." Then his song evangelist, Ira D. Sankey, whose hymns are sprinkled throughout most evangelical hymnbooks, began to lead in singing the hymn, but Sankey never finished the hymn, for while he was singing, the rush and roar of fire engines whistled by the church on the street outside, and before morning, much of the city of Chicago lay in ashes. To his dying day, Mr. Moody deeply regretted that he had told that congregation to come next Sabbath and decide what to do with Jesus.
Turn, or return, to Him today. We are not even guaranteed tomorrow.

Set Your 'Spiritual GPS' for the New Year - J. LEE GRADY CHARISMA NEWS

I call this exercise "resetting my GPS." I encourage you to try it. (Getty Images/iStock/Getty Images Plus/Royalty-free/Peopleimages)

Set Your 'Spiritual GPS' for the New Year

J. LEE GRADY  CHARISMA NEWS
At the beginning of every New Year I always reassess my goals, sharpen my objectives and pray for God's blessing. I ask myself: What do I want God to accomplish in my life this year? How do I want to grow personally, in my relationships and in my career? Then I seek the Lord to hear what He is saying to me about the next 12 months.
I call this exercise "resetting my GPS." I encourage you to try it. Here's how it works:
G stands for "Goals." People with goals have a sense of purpose, and they aren't easily distracted. On the other hand, those with no ambitions wander aimlessly. If you aim at nothing, you will surely hit it. Setting a goal is the first step toward success.
I see the power of goal setting in the life of the apostle Paul. He was motivated by a fiery passion to take the gospel to the Gentiles. In his lifetime he traveled on foot or by ship, chariot or horseback to what is now Turkey, Syria, Greece, Crete, Malta and Italy. His goal drove him forward.
He also set a goal to preach in Spain (see Rom. 15:24, 28). We don't know if he reached Spain or not, but that goal certainly stoked his zeal and motivated him to wake up every morning. When he wrote these words--"I press toward the goal to the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3:14)—he was in chains in a Roman prison. Paul didn't let obstacles deter him.
There's a difference between a dream and a goal. Dreams can be elusive—always "somewhere out there"—if the person dreaming never takes a first step. Your most vital step is to write down your goal. State it clearly and aim at it. The prophet said in Habakkuk 2:2: "Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he who reads it may run." You can't run toward your vision unless it is clearly articulated.
P stands for "Prophetic Word." For many years I've developed the habit of seeking the Lord for a word for the coming year. Sometimes God gives me a verse from the Bible. Other times I get a phrase or simply one word. As I was praying for 2018, for example, the Lord said, "Advance" and "Take possession," and He gave me Joshua 1. He also encouraged me to study the book of Joshua during 2018.
You don't have to be a prophet to receive a personalized directive like this. God knows you, and He knows your future. He also knows the challenges you face and the storms that may come this year. Jeremiah 29:11 says: "For I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." God loves you. If you seek Him, He will speak a word to your heart.
Once you receive that prophetic word, hold onto it no matter what happens. God gave Abraham and Sarah a promise about an heir, but it took 25 years before Isaac was born. God does not work according to your timetable; you must submit to His schedule. The prophetic word is certain; you can bank on it. It will fill your heart with the hope and encouragement you need to move forward, in spite of delays, setbacks, personal failures, relationship breakups, illness, job loss, miscarriages, deaths or disasters.
S stands for "Special Prayer." The most important part of resetting my spiritual GPS is setting aside time to pray. I call it "special" prayer because it's beyond the norm of my daily routine. I feel most prepared for a New Year if I can unplug and devote a block of time to commit my plans and goals to the Lord.
Setting goals is a great step toward success, but goals are nothing if God did not inspire them. Proverbs 16:9 says: "A man's heart devises his way, but the Lord directs his steps." When we take our goals to God in prayer, we allow Him to override them if they are misguided; we also give Him permission to expand our goals if they are limited. We bow before God's throne and tell Him that we only want His plans, not ours.
Proverbs 16:3 says: "Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established." You can facilitate special prayer in several ways. You may want to fast for a few days; you might go away for a weekend prayer retreat; or you could stay up a few nights and have a prayer vigil. Some churches also organize special days of corporate prayer at the beginning of the year.
You don't have to adopt the same prayer routine every year. The important thing is to take your plans to God and ask for His grace, power and strength to overshadow you during the next season. Ask for big things. Seek God's wisdom and strategy. Knock on heaven's door for His miracles.
Expect God to speak to your heart. He will reveal His plans, rekindle your dreams, calm your fears and stir your faith so you can experience your best year ever.

A Prayer to Lead You Out of Desperation and Into Hope - LINDA EVANS SHEPHERD CHARISMA NEWS

A Prayer to Lead You Out of Desperation and Into Hope

LINDA EVANS SHEPHERD  CHARISMA NEWS
A woman emailed me to beg for permission to commit suicide. She said, "I can't catch a break. The battles never stop. I don't want to live anymore."
My heart goes out to my hurting friend. I well understand where she's coming from. Besides, who can't relate to even an occasional feeling of discouragement? The truth is many of us have received our share of blisters as we've walked an unintended path of pain. If you've ever found yourself standing in the middle of a road called despair, know there is a shortcut to freedom, a shortcut that has everything to do with life and nothing to do with suicide.
That way is Jesus. He is the path that can take you safely through a world of difficulties. Not only does he provide a way through your troubles, he walks through your troubles with you. In fact, if my friend will give him permission, he will also walk with her and lead her to peace in her storm.
In Next Door Savior, Max Lucado wrote, "The Fort Knox of faith is Christ. Fellowshipping with Him. Waiting with Hm. Pondering Him. Exploring Him. The heart-stopping realization that in Him you are part of something ancient, endless, unstoppable and unfathomable. And that He, who can dig the Grand Canyon with His pinkie, thinks you're worth his death on Roman timber. Christ is the reward of Christianity. Why else would Paul make Him his supreme desire? 'I want to know Christ' (Phil. 3:10 NCV)."
The words that could help you start your journey to peace could include a prayer like:
Jesus - thank you for taking the blame and punishment for my mistakes. Forgive me for my sins. I give you me. I give you my burdens, my troubles, my despair and worries. These are now your problems because I choose to rest in you.
A prayer like this can change everything. It will take you to peace. To life. To freedom. To Christ.
Whatever happened to my friend who wanted my permission to commit suicide? I shared with her this same prayer that I shared with you  She prayed it and decided not to take her life.

That was four years ago. Today my friend is not only no longer suicidal, she has learned how to count her blessings and trust the Lord, and has even discovered new God-given life purposes.

She wrote me a letter this week which in part said, "Thank you for believing in me and teaching me how to pray during my battle with suicide. Today, I am glad to be alive."

If you are struggling, please know God is for you. He is holding his loving arms out to you and is ready for you to trust him through this time. You will be glad you did.
