Democrats Are Hoping This Is Watergate – But In Reality Comey’s Testimony Turned Out To Be A Huge ‘Nothing Burger’ - Michael Snyder THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE BLOG
Posted: 08 Jun 2017 Michael Snyder THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE BLOG
Many were anticipating that #ComeyDay would be the most monumental congressional hearing in decades, but the truth is that it turned out to be quite a dud. During two and a half hours of testimony in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee, former FBI Director James Comey didn’t tell us anything that we don’t already know.
Of course liberal news outlets such as CNN are breathlessly proclaiming that we are now “in Nixon territory”, but that isn’t accurate at all. There is absolutely no evidence that President Trump committed any crime, and there is absolutely nothing that warrants impeachment. And I am far from alone in that assessment. For example, an analysis published by CNBC says that nothing in Comey’s testimony was “powerful enough to end the Trump presidency literally or figuratively”… “Former FBI Director James Comey’s Senate testimony Thursday will indeed have a big political impact in Washington. It will foster more partisan bitterness and more bad feelings about our political process and news media. But none of his testimony rises to the level of anything legally powerful enough to end the Trump presidency literally or figuratively. When Comey accused Trump of being a liar, that certainly made a lot of headlines, but unless you are under oath it is not a crime to lie. Perhaps we should make it a crime for our politicians to lie, because if we did we would clean out the toilet that Washington D.C. has become rather quickly. But as it stands, even if Trump is a low-down dirty liar as Comey is claiming, that would simply put Trump on the same level as most of the current members of Congress. The much more important question is whether or not Trump committed obstruction of justice. Fortunately for Trump, there is a very clear answer to that question. First of all, we must remember that Trump was Comey’s boss. As chief executive, Trump has constitutional power to direct the activities of his subordinates, and he is free to fire them whenever he chooses. So, as Alan Dershowitz just pointed out on CNN, Trump cannot be impeached for simply exercising his constitutional authority… Renowned Harvard professor and legal mind Alan Dershowitz sparked quite a reaction during a CNN segment on Wednesday night after he proclaimed that former FBI director James Comey’s prepared testimony indicates that President Donald Trump didn’t commit any crimes.Traditionally, the FBI has operated in a highly independent manner, but there is nothing in the law that gives the FBI independent status. If Congress wants to pass a law to remove the FBI from being under the president’s authority they can certainly do that, but as it stands what Trump did was fully within the law. But even if Trump didn’t have the authority, there would still be no obstruction of justice. The two most important federal statutes that cover obstruction of justice are 18 U.S.C. § 1503 and 18 U.S.C. § 1505. In both cases, it would be exceedingly difficult for prosecutors to prove that Trump acted “corruptly” in this case. Not only that, there was no “proceeding” that Trump was trying to influence. For a more extended analysis, please see the article that I posted yesterday entitled “Even If Everything James Comey Is Claiming Is True, There Is Still No Evidence That Trump Is Guilty Of Any Crime”. If Comey is being straight with us, and at this point his credibility is pretty much shot, but if he is being straight with us there is still nothing that is going to end Trump’s presidency. What Trump did may have been “inappropriate”, but you don’t impeach a president for being “inappropriate”. In the aftermath of Comey’s testimony, Trump’s attorney said that the president feels “completely and totally vindicated”… President Donald Trump’s private attorney, Marc Kasowitz, on Wednesday said his client felt “completely and totally vindicated” by James Comey’s prepared opening statement to the Senate Intelligence Committee.Personally, I hope that this whole “scandal” will go away now. There never was anything to it in the first place, and the American people want a government that is going to focus on solving problems instead of focusing on investigations that were doomed to go absolutely nowhere from the start. But even if this Comey angle doesn’t work out, the Democrats will just keep on trying. In fact, the Huffington Post is already starting to promote the theory that Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement is an impeachable offense. In the end, the Democrats are never going to give up until they find something that they can use against Trump. What I am hearing is that they are going to make an all-out push to take back the House and the Senate in 2018, and if they can do that they plan to use their congressional majorities to get rid of Trump one way or another. This is just another reason why the 2018 mid-term elections are going to be the most important mid-term elections in modern American history, because if the Democrats have their way Trump will never even make it to 2020. |

What Love Are You Talking About? - Now Think On This by Steve Martin
What Love Are You Talking About?
- Now Think On This
by Steve Martin
Susie
didn’t know what love was. Growing up in a family of five, with dad having left
them all when she was three, provided nothing but rejection and hearts without hope.
She didn’t have the fancy clothes and trending shoes that others wore. The kids
in school would tease her because of her freckles and curly hair. She just didn’t
fit in.
Her mom
tried the best she could to put food on the table. Working a double shift at
Rudy’s a few miles away, serving Columbian coffee to the early risers in the
morning and the local draft beer to office personnel after hours, left little
time to give Susie a desperately needed hug, nor a spoken, simple, “I love you.”
So Susie’s heart longed for someone, or something, to fill that growing void.
By the
time she turned 17, Susie had already tried what others had. With nothing to
keep her pointed in the right direction, that midnight hour with Mark left her
with a life within, but no other about. He too followed the way of the world and
took the next train to Chicago, leaving her standing to face the day alone. The
woman at the PP told her she had the right to subtract the “tissue that will
pull your life down”, but something, she didn’t know from where, told Susie not
to proceed. Maybe that other voice she now remembered was right. Life had
begun, and this one would be different.
Love hadn’t
been what Susie wanted it to be. She had dreamed dreams like every other precious
princess had, hoping this too would fill the void, or that experience would
ease the longing. "Someday her prince would come" would play in her head.
Her pained heart still beat though, while longing to have
someone tell her it would just be OK. If she had to go it alone, well, she
would go it alone. Somehow she and the other beating heart would make it.
I could continue
writing and say that this common story ended quite well. I could tell you that
Susie found the love she had been looking for; that a righteous prince had come
and provided for her and her child with everything good. But that didn’t
happen.
You see,
the Lord had tried to share His love with Susie through another, one who too
had gone through the same story. He had appointed that person to speak life
into her heart, and give her the hug she needed, to help her find the way. But they
didn’t; instead seeking their own comfort and pleasure rather than sharing His
love with others. And so Susie and her child were no more.
The moral
of the story you ask?
You who
are reading this now have been given the love that Susie and others need to
know. You have been blessed with the gifts from the One Who loves, to share in
your world. You have the hug to give, the words to speak, the knowledge and experience
you have known, because He first loved you. His love is in your life.
Please go
and share what you have. The world needs to know what love you have talked
about.

Perception - Now Think On This by Steve Martin
Perception
- Now Think On This
by Steve Martin
“Beware
of the false prophets! They come to you wearing sheep’s clothing, but underneath
they are hungry wolves! You will recognize them by their fruit. Can people pick
grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every healthy tree
produces good fruit, but a poor tree produces bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot
bear bad fruit, or a poor tree good fruit. Any tree that does not produce good
fruit is cut down and thrown in the fire! So you will recognize them by their
fruit.” Matt. 7:15-20 CJB
As a kid growing up Roman Catholic in Cedar Falls,
Iowa, I tried to make the morning Mass before grade school as often as I could.
St. Patrick’s Church was just a block away from the St. Patrick’s Grade School
where I went for eight years, and so I’d go to the 7:30 am Mass before class
started at 8:15 am.
Part of me wanted to get closer to the Lord; another
part wanted to skip a lot of years in Purgatory, for so I was taught back then.
“Mass a day kept the years away!” Not until I personally received Jesus as my
Lord and Savior years later did I realize you can’t get to heaven by good
works, but only by accepting the saving grace and redemption of Jesus’ sacrificial
work on the cross, suffered on our behalf.
Often in the early morning hours, before and after
the Mass started, I would see an old lady cleaning the altar, moving around
quietly and without hype. Dressed in what looked like a long black robe, with a
black head covering, I perceived her to be rather weird and and even spooky. As
a 10-year old boy, having watched a few too many TV shows such as the Twilight
Zone and such, what I “saw” and what was reality didn’t match up.
One Saturday morning, being brave enough to check
things out further, I followed her home as she slowly walked, stooped over, to
her house a few doors down the street from the church. (Going to Mass on a
Saturday especially took off a lot of Purgatory years!) The old house where I
discovered she lived was probably older than her. With two wooden stories, having
creepy shaded windows, and needing a paint job bad, it fit perfectly with my
perception of the inhabitant.
What I didn’t expect was for her to stop, turn
around, and smile at me when she discovered my following. She then spoke,
asking me how I was doing. Being dumb founded and totally surprised at her kindness,
I briefly replied, and headed quickly home to my house. Thinking back now, in a
way this moment reminded me of when Scout Finch met Boo Radley for the first
time in the movie, Too Kill A Mockingbird.
What she had expected and what was reality was about the same as the understanding
I then received too.
Jesus often said that we would know people by their
fruit – what they did rather than by what they said, or what they wanted you to
think who they were. Getting a proper perception of one’s character cuts out
any false image that one may try to convey. The biblical truth remains - a bad
tree will not produce good fruit.
In our world today, there are many personalities and
organizations that “advertise” as being one thing, when in reality they are the
complete opposite. Stripping away the glitz and glamor, removing the falsehoods
put out in deception, reveal the actuality that lies below the surface. Planned
Parenthood’s murderous abortions are one prime example. Another are politicians
who say one thing repeatedly, but then are proven wrong when the actual truth, later
caught on tape or revealed in previously undisclosed documents, exposes their
real tree’s fruit. We need to develop good perceptions, so we are not among
those who fall for the lies of the devil himself.
They say you can’t judge a book by its cover. In
many instances that is true. Wrapping words around a fancy digital image needs our
closer inspection. Same holds for what we see, hear and feel if we don’t have the
spiritual eyes needed to see the truth. Being sensitive in allowing the Holy
Spirit to show us what He sees will enable us to know what is right and wrong,
going beneath the outward appearance to see what really lies under the surface.
Many will be deceived by the lack of integrity,
honesty and humility in these times. Preparation for the revealing of the false
messiah, and the anti-christ is growing rapidly. We need the proper perception
to understand and act accordingly in our daily lives. The Holy Spirit will be
with us to give us that, as we draw near to Him, and spend time with Him daily.
Our lives will depend on this.
