A Messianic Believer Debunks the False Premise of a Character-Changing God

ERIC TOKAJER  CHARISMA NEWS
Thirty years ago, as a brand-new believer in Yeshua (Jesus), I was shocked to hear some of the things that I heard come from pastors during sermons. I cannot count the many times I heard the expression "G-D of the Old Testament" vs. "G-D of the New Testament," as if there were two different G-Ds.
The Old Testament G-D was a mean, spiteful ogre who delighted in destruction and punishment. The New Testament G-D was filled with grace, mercy, forgiveness and love. This comparison was almost never complete until the pastor further went on to say the Old Testament G-D was the "G-D of the Jews," while the New Testament G-D is the "G-D of the church (Gentiles)."
As a Jewish believer, these words caused me to cringe inside and lit a desire within me to stand up and shout, "What about Numbers 23:19? It says: "God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He spoken, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?"
Or James 1:17? "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no change or shadow of turning." Or how about Hebrews 6:17-18? "So God, wanting to show more abundantly the immutability of His counsel to the heirs of promise, confirmed it by an oath. So that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us."
For a believer, the unchanging nature of G-D is the reason we can have complete confidence in the Bible and the G-D of the Bible. If G-D can change at whim, then we cannot have any confidence in Him or His Word. After all, if two thirds of the way through the Bible G-D can totally reject His nature and His People, turning from tyrannical to benevolent, from hate-filled to loving, and from punishing to forgiving, then what surety do we have that He won't change His mind again?
One of the main causes that leads Christians to accept the completely false premise of the "G-D of Old vs. G-D of New" scenario is the completely false understanding brought about by the "G-D of Jews (Old Testament) vs. G-D of Church/Gentiles (News Testament) doctrine.
A simple reading of the Bible would let us know that G-D has always been concerned with and also always existed as the G-D of the Jew and the Gentile. In effort to keep this a blog and not a book, let's just look at one proof that is often overlooked. This proof is that three of the "Old Testament" prophets were sent by G-D to bring a message not to Israel, but to a Gentile nation.
The first and most well-known is Jonah who was sent (against Jonah's will) to preach repentance to the people of Nineveh. Nineveh was an ancient Assyrian City in what is modern-day northern Iraq, and was the capital of the Assyrian Empire. Why would the Old Testament G-D of the Jews send a prophet to preach repentance to Gentiles?
Prophet No. 2 is Obadiah, who prophesied to Edom, and who, while related to Israel physically through Esau, was not part of the nation of Israel, the Jewish people. Obadiah's prophetic book is short, but it is clear that it was spoken to a Gentile nation concerning their actions toward and against Israel. Once again, why would the Old Testament G-D of the Jews send a prophet to a Gentile nation?
The third prophet is Nahum, who also prophesied to Nineveh some time after Jonah and before the complete fall of Nineveh. Nahum's message to this Gentile nation was that included in Nahum 1:3, "The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will in no way acquit the guilty. In gale winds and a storm is His way, and clouds are the dust of His feet." And Nahum 1:7 says, "The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of distress; and He knows those who take refuge in Him." These passages share with the Gentile nation the truth about both G-D's judgment and His mercy and grace.
When we take into consideration just these three prophets who were directed to share a message of grace and forgiveness to Gentile nations previous to the coming of Yeshua, the only conclusion available is that G-D did not change two-thirds of the way through the Bible, but that He is the same yesterday, today and forever. It is also impossible to conclude anything short of G-D's love for all mankind, both Jews and Gentiles from Genesis through Revelation.

More Christian Groups Line Up Against Obama Administration's Transgender Mandate for Schools - BOB ESCHLIMAN CHARISMA NEWS

More Christian Groups Line Up Against Obama Administration's Transgender Mandate for Schools

BOB ESCHLIMAN  CHARISMA NEWS
With the U.S. Supreme Court about to consider the Obama administration's "interpretation" that the Title IX sexual discrimination laws related to education also include protections for "gender identity," the legal opinions are piling up on both sides of the issue.
On behalf of the appellant in the case, the Gloucester County (Va.) School Board, Liberty Counsel filed an amicus brief Wednesday with the high court. In part, the brief states:
Advancements in biotechnology have demonstrated what society has intuitively understood for millennia, i.e., that human beings are conceived as either male or female and there is no scientific basis for a claim that individuals have a separate "gender identity" that can differ from their biological sex. The Department of Justice Civil Rights Division and the Department of Education Office of Civil Rights ignored this inconvenient truth when they announced that the term "sex" in Title IX now includes "gender identity" so that sex-separate private facilities must be turned into unisex social laboratories. This Court should reject the Department's attempt to infuse Title IX with a sociopolitical agenda wholly lacking in evidentiary foundation.
As has been previously reported, the student who brought the original lawsuit against the school district, alleging that her civil rights were violated for not being allowed to use opposite-sex facilities is 17-year-old "Gavin" Grimm. The high school senior is a girl who suffers from gender dysphoria, which makes her believe she is a boy; she has not had gender reassignment surgery.
When Grimm requested to use the boys' restroom, some parents complained, prompting the school board to adopt a policy that she must use girls' restrooms and locker facilities or a single-stall restroom in the nurse's office. A Virginia federal court ruled in the district's favor, but that decision was overturned by the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.
When it agreed to take up the case, the Supreme Court placed a stay on the 4th Circuit decision until it could render a superseding decision. Liberty Counsel is arguing the lower court lacks the legal authority to render a decision, particularly one that goes against the clear meaning of the word "sex" used in the decades-old law.
"Liberty Counsel stands with the Gloucester School Board, as its responsibility is to protect the safety of students from harmful situations," Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said. "It is absurd that the Supreme Court has to address whether a girl with gender dysphoria should be treated as a boy. The federal law does not allow persons to subjectively think, and therefore be treated, as the opposite of their biological sex. It is very obvious how the Supreme Court should rule in this case."
First Liberty Institute has also weighed in on the case, filing its own amicus brief on behalf of 22 religious educational institutions and educators. Among those represented by First Liberty is the Association of Christian Schools International, the largest Protestant educational organization in the world.
"The public has paid a lot of attention to how this case affects public schools, but one very important category of educational institutions has been overlooked—private, religious schools," First Liberty CEO and President Kelly Shackelford said. "Do we really want to legalize a policy that could cause faith-based schools to be stripped of their Title IX federal funding, without giving them any voice in the matter?"
In its brief, First Liberty argues that the First Amendment requires faith-based schools and educators to be able to voice their concerns about policies before the government enacts them. That process was not followed with the Obama Administration's transgender mandate, which has prompted the Christian schools to ask the high court to reverse the lower court's opinion.
"There is one important question the Supreme Court must answer—will they protect the rights of religious schools and colleges to have a voice in a critical rulemaking process that will affect their ability to operate according to the teachings of their faith?" Shackelford concluded. "Their answer to this question will determine the future of religious freedom for faith-based schools and colleges nationwide."

Why Are Wal-Mart And Boeing Laying Off Workers If The U.S. Economy Is In Good Shape? - Michael Snyder THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE BLOG

wal-mart-photo-by-mikemozartjeepersmedia

Posted: 11 Jan 2017  Michael Snyder  THE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE BLOG

The stock market has been on quite a roll in recent weeks, but signs of trouble continue to plague the real economy.  Earlier this week, I talked about the “retail apocalypse” that is sweeping America.  Major retail chains such as Sears and Macy’s are closing stores and laying off workers, but I didn’t think that Wal-Mart would be feeling the pain as well.

Unfortunately, that is precisely what is happening.  USA Today is reporting that approximately 1,000 jobs will be cut at Wal-Mart’s corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas by the end of this month…
Walmart’s plan to lay off of hundreds of employees is the latest ripple in a wave of job cuts and store closures that are roiling the retail industry.
The world’s largest retailer is cutting roughly 1,000 jobs at its corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., later this month, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to speak about it.
The company is saying that these cuts are necessary because Wal-Mart is always “looking for ways to operate more efficiently and effectively“.  But something doesn’t smell right here.  You don’t get rid of 1,000 employees at your corporate headquarters if everything is just fine.

I have driven past Wal-Mart’s headquarters in Bentonville a number of times, and it is in a beautiful part of the country.  Bentonville and the surrounding areas had been booming, but it looks like times may be changing.

Meanwhile, there are signs of trouble out on the west coast as well.  The Los Angeles Times is reporting that there is going to be a new round of engineering job cuts at Boeing…
Boeing Co. has internally announced a new round of employee buyouts for engineers companywide, including in Southern California, and warned that layoff notices will follow later this month to engineers in Washington state, where the company has a large presence.
Management did not cite a target for the number of projected job cuts.
The news comes after company Vice Chairman Ray Conner and the new chief executive of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, or BCA, Kevin McAllister, warned in December of the need to aim for further cuts in 2017.
And according to Boeing spokesperson Doug Alder, similar job cut announcements are coming for other classes of workers as well.

So why is Boeing getting rid of so many employees?

Well, the truth is that Boeing’s business is way down.  The following comes from Wolf Richter
Business has been tough. In 2016, deliveries fell by 14 jets from a year ago, to 748. Net orders dropped 13% from an already rotten level in 2015, to just 668, down 53% from 2014. And the lowest level since 2010!
When the economy is doing well, air traffic tends to rise, and when the economy is doing poorly it tends to go down.

Needless to say, the fact that Boeing is doing so poorly does not bode well for the future.
In addition to Wal-Mart, another major retailer that is letting people go is Petco
Petco is cutting 180 positions with about 50 at its San Diego headquarters, the pet supply retailer confirmed Wednesday.
The company made the cuts across its workforce and include both existing and open positions.
Petco has about 650 workers at its headquarters in Rancho Bernardo. It employs 27,000 in the U.S.
My wife and I have three cats, and even though Petco tends to be a bit overpriced we have always appreciated the work that they do.

Unfortunately, when the economy gets tough spending on pets tends to be one of the first things to get cut back, and this current trouble at Petco could be a sign that rough sledding is ahead for the entire economy.

Of course your personal perspective on these things is likely to be very heavily influenced by your immediate surroundings.  Those that live in wealthy enclaves of major cities such as San Francisco, New York City or Washington D.C. may be wondering how anyone could possibly be talking about economic trouble right now.

But if you live in economically depressed areas of Appalachia or the upper Midwest, it may seem like the last economic recession never even ended.

There have been pockets of economic prosperity in recent years, and this has resulted in some people becoming exceedingly wealthy.  Meanwhile, things have just continued to become even tougher for millions of other families as the cost of living always seems to grow faster than their paychecks do.

If you are in the top one percent of all income earners, maybe to you it seems like things have never been better.  But most of the country is living paycheck to paycheck and is just struggling to survive from month to month.  The following comes from CNN
The rich are money-making machines. Today, the top mega wealthy — the top 1% — earn an average of $1.3 million a year. It’s more than three times as much as the 1980s, when the rich “only” made $428,000, on average, according to economists Thomas Piketty, Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman.
Meanwhile, the bottom 50% of the American population earned an average of $16,000 in pre-tax income in 1980. That hasn’t changed in over three decades.
The workers being laid off at the companies discussed above are real people with real hopes and real dreams.  Perhaps many of them will be able to land other employment fairly soon, but the truth is that the job market is really tough in many areas of the country right now.
Finding a good job that will allow you to pay the bills and support your family is not easy.  You may find that out the hard way if you end up losing your current job during the economic troubles that will come in 2017.

Earlier today, I came across an excellent article by Gail Tverberg that detailed a whole bunch of reasons why a significant economic downturn appears to be imminent in 2017.  If you would like to read it, you can find it here.  She points to many of the same things that I have been pointing to for a very long time.

Even though economic conditions were fairly stable throughout 2016, our long-term problems just continued to get even worse.  So the truth is that we are more primed for a major crisis today than we have been at any point since the last recession.

My hope is that things will not be nearly as bad in 2017 as Gail Tverberg and others are projecting that they could be, but the warning signs are definitely there, and it isn’t going to take much to push the U.S. economy off the rails.

Moon-Walkers' Heavenly Perspective - Charles Gardner ISRAEL TODAY

Moon-Walkers' Heavenly Perspective

Thursday, January 12, 2017 |  Charles Gardner  ISRAEL TODAY
Following in the steps of Jesus was more exciting than walking on the moon. These are the words attributed to Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon’s surface, during a visit to Israel.
And fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who accompanied him for the Apollo 11 lunar landing, was similarly taken up with a heavenly perspective. Shortly after touching down where no man had been before, he took communion with bread and wine he had carried from earth in special plastic packages, and ensured that among the first words ever spoken there were those of the Creator of the Universe, Jesus Christ, when he read a passage from John’s Gospel. (The bread and wine are symbols of the sacrifice Jesus made – through his broken body and shed blood – in dying for our sins on the cross).
Buzz had wanted to share his experience with the world at the time – back in 1969 – but NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) were embroiled in a legal controversy over broadcasting the Christian beliefs of their pilots, and he was persuaded to tone down his enthusiasm. He went ahead with the ceremony nevertheless, but with radio contact switched off.
Completing a trio of famous astronauts with a strong faith in the Creator is John Glenn, who recently died, aged 95, and who was the first man to orbit the earth in space.
When Neil Armstrong visited Israel in 1994, he asked his host, archaeologist Meir Ben Dov, if there was a place where Jesus would undoubtedly have walked when he was on earth. Dov, one of the excavators of the Temple Mount, was sure that he would have used the southern steps as he walked up to the Temple. So when Armstrong got there, the man who is more famous for his statement “This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind” is understood to have bent down and kissed the ground, saying that this was an even more exciting moment for him than walking on the moon.
This rings so true. I can’t speak for the moon, but I know that there is something out of this world about Israel – and Jerusalem in particular. As the Bible says, it truly is God’s city, and when you know that it is where Jesus walked, your faith really does come alive in a new way.
Back to Buzz Aldrin and the controversy surrounding Apollo 11. A previous mission, Apollo 8, was the first manned spacecraft to orbit the moon. On Christmas Eve 1968, in what was the most watched television broadcast in the world at the time, the crew read in turn from the opening verses of the Bible (Genesis chapter 1). Bill Anders, Jim Lovell and Frank Borman unashamedly recited the first ten verses (focusing on creation) to a world still mercifully free of political correctness.
Aldrin had planned to do something similar by sharing communion with the world over the radio, but NASA were in the middle of a legal battle with arch-atheist Madalyn Murray O’Hair who was determined to remove Christian influence from schools and other public organizations.
So, just before the two men stepped onto the lunar surface, Aldrin reluctantly switched off radio communication and took communion while also reading a verse from John’s Gospel. Later explaining what he did, he said: “I opened the little plastic packages which contained the bread and the wine. I poured the wine into the chalice our church had given me. In the one-sixth gravity of the moon, the wine slowly curled and gracefully came up the side of the cup. Then I read the Scripture (quoting Jesus), ‘I am the vine; you are the branches. Whosoever abides in me will bring forth much fruit. Apart from me you can do nothing.’
“It was interesting for me to think: the very first liquid ever poured on the moon, and the very first food eaten there, were the communion elements.”
And through Aldrin’s momentous decision, the first ever ceremony to be performed on the moon was in honour of his Lord, who created it all!
Madalyn O’Hair’s atheistic life mission ended tragically in 1995 when she was murdered, along with her son and granddaughter, by fellow anti-God activist David Waters. Surviving son William J Murray, who thus lost his mother, brother and daughter, had been disowned by his family after becoming a Christian in 1980.
Meanwhile John Glenn, whose historic space flight aboard Friendship 7 in 1962 catapulted him to heroic stature, was also a man of deep Christian faith. And when he again left the bounds of earth on December 8, 2016, he passed into the arms of his Saviour, Jesus Christ.
He said he prayed every day during those pioneering space flights, which were inherently risky, and shortly after orbiting the earth he delivered a sermon entitled Why I know there is a God that described how his mission had strengthened his belief, and pointing out “the orderliness of the whole universe about us, from the smallest atomic structure to the most enormous thing we can imagine.”
In 1998, aged 77, Glenn returned to space on the Space Shuttle Discovery’s STS-95 mission, becoming the oldest person to travel in space. Afterwards he told reporters: “Looking at the earth from this vantage point, looking at this kind of creation and not to believe in God is, to me, impossible. To see [earth] laid out like that only strengthens my beliefs.”

Trump's Secretary of State Affirms Strong Support for Israel - Israel Today

Trump's Secretary of State Affirms Strong Support for Israel

Thursday, January 12, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
Incoming US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Wednesday voiced strong support for Israel in his new role.
That was something of a relief. Tillerson was previously CEO of Exxon Mobil, and had for years done business with some of Israel’s Middle East foes.
But at his Senate confirmation hearing, Tillerson made no qualms about labeling Israel “our most important strategic partner in the region.”
He even took aim at outgoing Secretary of State John Kerry for being so hostile toward the Jewish state.
“The secretary’s speech, which followed that UN resolution (condemning the presence of Jews in areas claimed by the Arabs), I found quite troubling because of the attacks on Israel and in many ways undermining the government of Israel itself in terms of its own legitimacy and the talks,” said Tillerson.
When it comes to US foreign policy under Trump, Tillerson affirmed that “Israel is, has always been and remains our most important ally in the region. I think in the Trump administration, the president-elect already made it clear and, if I’m confirmed, I agree entirely and will support (Israel).”

The Profound Faith Propelling California's Most Famous Burger Chain - KRISTIN COLE/A. LARRY ROSS CHARISMA NEWS

The Profound Faith Propelling California's Most Famous Burger Chain

KRISTIN COLE/A. LARRY ROSS  CHARISMA NEWS
I Am Second, a storytelling movement meant to inspire others, today released a short film on IAmSecond.com featuring Lynsi Snyder, president of In-N-Out Burger. The film, which is part of I Am Second's White Chair Film Series, provides a rare look into the past struggles and present success of the very private owner of the 318-store burger chain.
In the film, Snyder discusses her late father and his profound influence on her life, and how his early and tragic death impacted her own relationships.
"My dad was really funny. He was a little bit eccentric. Loved to make people laugh; loved to laugh at himself," Snyder said. "He spoke to me like I was an adult when I was four years old. Somehow he had wisdom and discernment that I was going to be exposed to so many different things in life, and I was going to need that straightforwardness and honesty."
But Snyder's memories of her father also include the sorrow of visiting him in rehab and the pain of her parents' divorce.
"It was really hard for me to see him fail ... I knew how badly he wanted to be a good husband and a good father," she said.
After his death, Snyder could not bear to be alone. She married at 18, and when that marriage failed, she briefly turned to pot and alcohol to mask the pain of the lost time and love she had had with her father. She searched for love and respect but instead found herself in relationships with men who mistreated and cheated on her. Feeling more isolated and less worthy than ever, she responded to the pain and neglect with adultery of her own, behavior that only deepened her despair.
Grateful now for the lessons offered by those dark times, in the I Am Second film Snyder describes how it was only when she found her true identity and strength in Christ that she was led to her loving, God-fearing husband and to her commitment to live with purpose, sharing knowledge of His love with others to help them transform their lives as she was transforming hers.
In keeping with her belief that media and public attention should be focused on her company rather than on herself, Snyder's interviews are usually centered on her business or her non-profit foundations. This is one of the few times she has discussed the very personal aspects of her life and spiritual growth.
"I wanted to share hope with others, the knowledge that God can turn anything—broken lives, heartbreak, anything—to good," Snyder said. "I felt this was the time and place to be transparent and to tell the truth. Sharing my story might help others; I know it has helped me."

Evangelicals Storms Washington to Push Pro-Israel Legislation and Strengthen Trump Ties - Abra Forman BREAKING ISRAEL NEWS

CUFI Storms Washington to Push Pro-Israel Legislation and Strengthen Trump Ties

“My help cometh from Hashem, who made heaven and earth.” Psalms 121:2 (The Israel Bible™)
Pro-Israel Evangelical group Christians United for Israel (CUFI) is sending hundreds of members to Washington, DC this week in order to influence Israel policies being debated on Capitol Hill.
Coming from 49 states, 260 CUFI members are flying into the capital Wednesday with the goal of pushing two congressional measures which slam the UN’s recent anti-settlement resolution and slash security budgets for America’s embassies worldwide until the US Embassy in Israel is moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, an act President-elect Donald Trump has said is a top priority for his administration.
Behind the mass migration of activists is a general move for CUFI away from associating with more moderate Israel advocacy organizations which support a two-state solution and towards Trump, who has made his strong pro-Israel and pro-Jerusalem positions a main part of his platform.

The Secret Chambers Hidden in the Cave of Patriarchs Will Astound You [PHOTOS] - Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz BREAKING ISRAEL NEWS

The Secret Chambers Hidden in the Cave of Patriarchs Will Astound You [PHOTOS]

“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” Proverbs 25:2 (The Israel Bible™)
Thirty-five years ago, a small group of Jews set out on a difficult and dangerous mission: to prove that the Biblical account of a cave in Hebron was true. One of those men tells of what they found: a secret chamber under the site, evidence that refutes the United Nations version of history supported by most of the nations of the world.
Of all the holy sites in Israel, the Machpela (Cave of the Patriarchs) in Hebron has special significance as being the oldest. A burial site for the three patriarchs and three of the matriarchs – Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, and Jacob and Leah –  it marks the origins of all three Abrahamic religions.
Dominated by a large, aboveground stone structure, visitors to Hebron are left wondering about the cave described in the Bible. A cave does exist, and even though its entrance is in plain sight, very few people have ever been inside.
Noam Arnon, spokesman for the Jewish community in Hebron, has been studying the Machpela for decades. His passion for the site began about 35 years ago when, risking imprisonment and the ire of the  Muslims, he pried open the stone covering the entrance to the burial site and ventured into the chambers underneath the building.
