Standing in support of Israel, Jews, and believers in all the nations, in the name of Jesus (Yeshua). Sharing biblical truth, encouragement, news, and messages by Steve Martin.
A respected Orthodox Jewish man stood up at a Purim party that I was attending in Tsfat. He gave a midrash (teaching) on how the two recent Torah portions, Truma and Tsaveh always come during Purim time. These Torah readings speak about color in the priestly garments and in the Temple. His speech was like poetry, full of deep insight and meaning but he didn't once mention G-d.
When he finished, I asked if I could add something to his midrash. He and the other men agreed although with some hesitation. I said I enjoyed his midrash but wanted to add that all colors are contained in light and since the Torah portion, Tsaveh also speaks about the Nir Tamid, the eternal light that was always burning in the Temple, it's referring to the eternal light of the L-rd. In the Book of Esther G-d is not mentioned once and yet His presence is clearly woven throughout each chapter. The light and color of our G-d, the G-d of Israel, are also present throughout our lives, even though we don't see Him and sometimes we don't even acknowledge Him. Yet His faithful light and beautiful colors are always with us!
They seemed to approve and afterwards these Orthodox Jewish men gathered around me with their instruments as I sat at the piano. I was able to share a song I'd written - "Ha Aretz" and it seemed to touch their hearts as they asked me about this song. Enjoy the video below... They brought piece after piece of music to me and we had a fantastic jam session playing mostly Irish jig music while the others at the party sculpted with clay - that's Purim in Tsfat for you!
The song "Ha Aretz", "The Land" from the Fine Linen CD was given by the L-rd when we first made Aliyah and the Scripture from Jeremiah 42:10 encouraged us greatly!
"If you will indeed stay in this Land, then I will build you up and not tear you down. I will plant you and not uproot you."
The rest of the words came from the Torah portion that week - "It's a Land that flows with milk and honey, a Land the L-rd cares for, a Land that drinks the dew from heaven, a Land the eyes of the L-rd are always upon."
Battle for Citizenship
The Ministry of Interior, MOI, is run by the ultra-Orthodox party, Shas, which has a strong hatred of believers in Yeshua. When a Gentile marries an Israeli Jew, they are entitled to full rights and benefits but our son Ariel's wife, Shayla, has been refused citizenship for 7 years and now has received an ultimatum that she must leave Israel permanently by the end of June, 2017. We believe this has happened because of the Isaiah 53 video and how the Gospel has gone out in this precious couple's lives. In fact the MOI also told Ariel that they are planning to remove our citizenship as well (Richard and Carolyn).
After much prayer Ariel and Shayla decided to take the MOI to court in order to secure Shayla's citizenship. But the battle is far from finished and we need your help. Would you please pray with us, even daily, that the L-rd's will would be accomplished and that we would prevail. The battle belongs to the L-rd!
Praise G-d for the recent journey to the UK where we ministered in many places, including Imanuel Centre in London for Erev Shabbat, Friday evening.
The L-rd sent many divine appointments in the UK with Muslims and British people with whom we shared Messiah. Several Muslims want to keep in touch and know more about the G-d of Israel - Hallelujah!
We had the privilege of sharing with many beautiful intercessors who faithfully stand with Israel in love and prayer. Todah rabah - thanks so much to you all!
While in London, we needed to bring all our heavy suitcases to a church via the Tube. A young Muslim man I'd met and spoken with about Yeshua on the Tube offered to help. He ended up carrying my suitcase about 40 minutes out of his way so Richard and I wanted to bless him. When we asked how we could pray for him, he shared his request. So we laid hands on him and prayed. After we returned home to Israel, we received an email from him saying, "The prayer you read for me really touched my heart and I want to know more." He didn't understand that we didn't read this prayer from a book but that it came forth as a result of our relationship with the living Messiah. So we're speaking with him about the Hope we have within...
Let your conversation always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. Col 4:6
A New Season
Recently we were connected with Luke 10 Ministry. The basic premise of CO2, church of 2, is to learn to hear the voice of the L-rd in every situation throughout each day. Richard has led the way in sharing this with fellow Israelis, believers and pre-believers, and we're seeing breakthroughs in people's lives as the L-rd reveals Himself and His plans through dreams and visions. Yesterday, a woman with advanced Alzheimer's became completely lucid after we prayed for her, remembering details that astounded her husband - one of the many miracles we've seen lately.
One thing about praying for healing that we've learned is that it's G-d's work, not ours. We're just supposed to step out in faith and He will do the rest! Praise the L-rd for His faithfulness!
May we all in the Body of Messiah learn to walk in the power and love of the Holy Spirit and hear the voice of Yeshua so that we will discern the times we're living in and know what to do about it - for the glory of the L-rd!
Thank you for your faithful love, prayers and support and
Our hope is to raise up more and more informed intercessors for Israel as we worship, pray and share how G-d is moving on the hearts of Israelis today. Come and join us for dinner and worship in our home in the Galilee!
We write L-rd and G-d in this way because it's a Jewish custom that Carolyn grew up with and it's done only out of reverence and honor for the name of the L-rd. Thanks for understanding.
When people visit Jerusalem's Old City, they may believe it's the same place King David set up as his capital more than 3,000 years ago. But that's not exactly the case. Archaeologists are uncovering the original city and telling others its amazing story.
Anarina Heymann serves as the outreach coordinator for the City of David.
"Welcome to the City of David," Heymann told CBN News. "It's the home to the ancient biblical Jerusalem and up until 150 years ago, everybody thought that the ancient biblical Jerusalem lies within the confines of the Old City right behind you in the wall—within the walls there. So the question is, what happened 150 years ago, and where is the ancient biblical Jerusalem?"
She then helped answer that question by explaining how the City of David lay hidden for nearly 2,000 years until a British archaeologist began a discovery that continues to this day.
"Chris, we're standing at a magical place right now," Heymann continued. "This is the place when Charles Warren came through the fascia that he found. He saw something. And when Charles Warren saw this, he knew that he rediscovered the ancient biblical Jerusalem."
Asked if this Warren's work was the beginning of the unveiling of the City of David in modern times, she responded, "Exactly, because we're speaking of a 2,000- year period where nobody knew where the ancient city was. Most people thought when they—when they came—that what they saw in the Old City, that was ancient biblical Jerusalem. It's only when he found this that they discovered ... the ancient Jerusalem lies outside of what we call today the Old City."
The discovery of the tunnel system known as Warren's Shaft visually tells how King David captured the city and brings the Bible to life.
"When we saw this, we suddenly saw exactly how the picture came together," Heymann continued. "And many times when we do excavations, we also don't know what we're looking at and then we have to go to the Bible and that starts explaining it. So it's the Bible and then the excavations and the excavations and the Bible coming together, giving us the full picture of ancient Jerusalem."
Anointing Israel's Kings
Further down, archaeologists found where men became kings.
"Most of the kings of Israel were anointed where we're standing right now. We are standing at the place of anointing. And Isaiah says you will draw forth water with joy from the springs of salvation," she said.
In fact, the City of David echoes with the people of the Bible.
"Abraham, when he met Melchizedek, but then we get to David, to Solomon, we get to Isaiah when he was giving his prophecies on these very walls here," she said. "Jeremiah, afterwards, when he had to speak about the destruction that was looming over Jerusalem ... all those things happening exactly where we're standing right now."
More than 10 years ago, archaeologists uncovered another biblical site, the Pool of Siloam, which was fed by the nearby Gihon Spring. It's the place where Jesus healed the blind man and also where the Jewish people would gather for the Feasts of the Lord.
"Three times a year, all the men had to come to the mikvah [ritual bath] in the pool and from there get ready to go to Temple Mount and this is the walk, the final ascent, that all the pilgrims can do again when they come to Jerusalem," she explained.
Heymann sees this final ascent as a merger between archaeology and prophecy.
Opening a Door to the Future
"Something amazing is happening because you see that we are now excavating this road and again prophecy is being fulfilled because it says in Isaiah 'build up, build up the road,' the highway. And it says remove the stones for my people's return," she said.
One ongoing excavation is the tunnel leading from the Pool of Siloam to the Temple Mount. Heymann says it reveals the past and opens a door to the future.
One of the City of David's most ambitious projects is an excavation called the Givati, where the entire history of Jerusalem is being revealed as if the rocks are crying out.
"You can see exactly how she [Jerusalem)] slowly disappeared from civilization because one city was built upon the other, and you could see how probably the city could have lost hope, thinking 'Who's ever going to discover me again? Until God says, but in a time of favor, nothing can stop it and that's what we see in Givati. Jerusalem is slowly being revealed," she said.
She sees prophecy unfolding.
"We're starting to see in the last decade, the blueprint. She's starting to share what she looked like to us again. So you can see how prophecy is speeding up as we go. It's said [Hebrew] 'shake off your dust, arise, take your rightful place, Jerusalem.' If you see the excavations here on a daily basis, you can see the buckets flying. You can see the dust literally flying about, how she's shaking off her dust."
Heymann considers her role in the City of David a privilege.
"I call myself the luckiest person in the world—the luckiest girl in the world—because I have the opportunity to take what we see here and tell the people about the City of David, about the ancient Jerusalem, and every person that is passionate about Jerusalem and serious about biblical prophecy needs to know this," she said.

Throughout the earth—in the early morning hours, late nights, and moments in between—believers are praying.
Some prayers are long and drawn-out. Others are quickly muttered phrases, shot forth from weary hearts with the last bit of strength to the throne of God. And some prayers are all too familiar, filled with well-worn words of personal requests and requests for others.
The wife who prays to bear children throughout seven years of marriage. The young man who prays for his mother's healing. The soldier who sits in physical therapy, praying to walk again. Parents praying that this month they'll have enough money to pay bills and feed their children. Grandmothers praying for their children and grandchildren to finally accept Jesus. Fathers praying for their babies to make it out of the NICU.
Prayers continue, day in and day out. And at times, many seem to go unanswered.
Over time, the number of people willing to pray and agree for a miracle seems to have dwindled with the passing of each day. Now, familiar verses are recited, accompanied by sad expressions.
"He works all things together for good," friends say.
It's true. But the words don't feel good or comforting right now.
Amidst all the Scripture about the Lord's faithfulness and kindness, it seems the sun has set over our personal wilderness. The places that were once abundant have become dry and barren, and the goodness of the Lord seems hard to find. Answers seemed delayed and hope seems to wane. Harsh winds carry whispers that this winter will never end.
These accusations war against what we believe and are hard to ignore. They attack what we know—God is good (Mark 10:8), and He is always the same (Heb. 13:8).
Life's moments can be hard, but they're not unknown to our Good Shepherd. In the midst of dreams deferred, dwindling hope and increasing disappointment, we are loved, seen, and known by the one with all power and authority. He desires to lead us through the wilderness and deeper into unwavering trust in Him and His nature.
Even the close friends of Jesus found themselves in a similar situation when their brother Lazarus became sick.
Now a man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. This was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. So the sisters sent word to Him, saying, "Lord, he whom You love is sick" (John 11:1-3).
They too, called upon Son of God, knowing He could help their brother. But Lazarus died.
When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met Him, but Mary remained in the house. Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died" (John 11:20-21).
A loved one was sick. Jesus could have prevented this death and yet He doesn't arrive in time. Instead, the one known for healing the sick delays His arrival and their loved one dies, leaving two sisters disappointed in their Friend and His lack of action.
And yet, because of who Jesus is, and because of what He has done, Martha still has hope: "But even now I know that whatever You may ask of God, God will give You" (John 11:22).
In this moment, Jesus proves Himself to be something more than what His friends expected. They knew He could heal masses of people—news of His exploits traveled far and wide. They knew He could restore—they'd experienced that truth in their own lives. But in this moment, it looks as if all hope is lost.
Martha and Mary are experiencing a harsh but necessary lesson: Life will not go according to your plan.
As much as it hurts to face that reality, the expectation for everything to go according to our plan without interruption is impossible at the least and ridiculous at best.
It's a lesson we all learn at some point in time. Even with our careful attention to detail, our meticulous research and our sorting of options, things do not turn out the way we hoped, expected or imagined. "There are many plans in a man's heart, nevertheless the counsel of the Lord will stand (Prov. 19:21).
And in these moments, the temptation to blame God arises to lure us into the trap of distrusting the one who's proven He loves us most and doubting His ability to care and transform our situation.
But we can remind ourselves in those seasons, that throughout the hills and valleys of life, the effects of sin will be evident, but ultimately all will go according to the Lord's plans and it will be good, because He is good—not occasionally, not randomly, but consistently, day in and day out when we are feeling holy or unholy, succeeding or failing. He is good, and all He does is good.
No, things have not and do not go according to our plan, but we trust the one who is able to do more than we can ask, think, or imagine and rules sovereignly over all. In the impossible situations of life, when answers seem to be delayed, we can believe in the strength and ability of God and His consistent nature.
Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."
Martha said to Him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day."
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, yet shall he live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"
She said to Him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world" (John 11:23-27).
The one who did not spare His own Son will freely provide for us. It won't always look the way we imagined, and it may never look the way we planned, but it will be good and satisfy us as we turn to Him in the midst of disappointment and allow His plan to overtake our own.
And when we stand in our resurrected bodies, we will clearly see and unequivocally know He was right and His timing was good. And we too will cry, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty."
"You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You have created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created" (Rev. 4:11).
Today, Jesus says to those in impossible situations, who are overwhelmed by disappointment, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, yet shall he live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:26).

The origins of Pesach (Passover) lie in the Springtime celebrations of the first grain harvest. The holiday celebrates God’s great redemptive act of the Jews’ exodus from slavery in Egypt to freedom. According to Jewish law, it is forbidden to eat or even possess any food that can contain leaven, chamtez, on Passover. Therefore, a major part of the preparations for Pesach consists of removing all traces of leavened foods from the home. Many begin to clean for Passover and stock their kitchens with special kosher-for-Passover foods weeks before the holiday. With only a few weeks remaining until Passover begins on April 10th, start your preparations now!
