Has Hell Frozen Over? Top UN Official Calls Jerusalem the Ancient Capital of Israel - Israel Today

Has Hell Frozen Over? Top UN Official Calls Jerusalem the Ancient Capital of Israel

Sunday, April 09, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
Irina Bokova, the director-general of UNESCO, which last year passed a motion denying the Jewish connection to Jerusalem, shocked many last week when she publicly affirmed the Jews’ historic connection to the Holy City.
“In the Torah, Jerusalem is the capital of King David, where Solomon built the Temple and placed the Ark of the Covenant,” Bokova reminded the European Parliament in a session on Thursday.
“The protection of the heritage of Jerusalem is part of a broader vision for peace and the fight against all forms of denial of Jewish history, delegitimization of Israel and anti-Semitism,” she continued.
No doubt Bokova will soon be facing a tidal wave of outrage from the Muslim world, which in recent years has tried to rewrite history and erase the Jewish connection to Jerusalem.
Leading the charge are the Palestinian Arabs, who today insist there never was a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem, and that the Israelis are foreign occupiers in this city.

REFLECTION: What the Spiritual Language in the Syria Speech Tells Us About Trump - CBN News Stephen Little

REFLECTION: What the Spiritual Language in the Syria Speech Tells Us About Trump

CBN News Stephen Little  April 7, 2017

President Trump's speech justifying the missile launch on Syria relied on spiritual language which reflected deeper meanings as he sought God's wisdom.
His approach will have strong appeal for his evangelical supporters, and it might go even deeper, showing the world a different side to the president.
The Underlying Theme Is Justice
Justice demands punishment for a perpetrator who commits wrongs against innocent civilian populations.
"Numerous previous attempts at changing Assad’s behavior have all...failed very dramatically," the president said. "Tonight I call on all civilized nations to join us in seeking to end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syria."
Here he drew a bright red line between the need to take action to stop an agressor's criminal behavior and stand up for those who cannot protect themselves and passively hoping the situation will change.
He Appealed to Moral Law
While President Trump cited Assad's violations of the Chemical Weapons Convention, he appealed to a higher moral code than international agreements or the United Nations.
"No child of God should ever suffer such horror," he said.
With that statement, President Trump highlighted a higher law.
He said that all men and women are created by God and for that reason they are deserving of protection and safety from evil. People don't derive their right to freedom and security from any manmade organization, but from the Creator and if a government or individual transgresses those rights, then they should be held accountable.
His Words Reflected Humility
President Trump asked for God's wisdom in facing the challenges ahead. It's true that President Trump's actions and words don't often reflect humility, but the Bible is clear that a humble man seeks God's wisdom.
Proverbs 22:24 says: "Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life."
Also, in his closing, he asked God to bless not just America, but the entire world. He broadened the perspective beyond narrow self-interest and showed concern for the other nations and populations who are at risk if the Syrian war continues unchecked. That's a sign of a leader.
He Showed Compassion for the Suffering
President Trump pointed to the innocent victims suffering at the hands of a brutal dictator.
"Assad choked out the lives helpless men, women and children. It was a brutal death for so many. Even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered at this very barbaric attack."
Evoking these images brings the depths of the depravity of chemical weapons home and demonstrates empathy, another quality of great leaders.
Did he use these phrases simply to make his case and to appeal to his evangelical base? It's certainly possible. He is a politician, after all.
But hearing this speech brings to remembrance the reasons both Mike Pence and Ben Carson cited when they first cast their support for Trump. They said that when they sat down with him face to face, behind the spotlight, they found a man very different from the brash exterior. One of humility and grace.
This speech might have just given us all a glimpse of that man.
Mar-a-Lago, Florida  -  Thursday, April 6  -  9:40 P.M. EDT
THE PRESIDENT:  My fellow Americans:  On Tuesday, Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad launched a horrible chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians.  Using a deadly nerve agent, Assad choked out the lives of helpless men, women, and children.  It was a slow and brutal death for so many.  Even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack.  No child of God should ever suffer such horror.
Tonight, I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched.  It is in this vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.  There can be no dispute that Syria used banned chemical weapons, violated its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention, and ignored the urging of the U.N. Security Council.
Years of previous attempts at changing Assad's behavior have all failed, and failed very dramatically.  As a result, the refugee crisis continues to deepen and the region continues to destabilize, threatening the United States and its allies.
Tonight, I call on all civilized nations to join us in seeking to end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syria, and also to end terrorism of all kinds and all types.  We ask for God's wisdom as we face the challenge of our very troubled world.  We pray for the lives of the wounded and for the souls of those who have passed.  And we hope that as long as America stands for justice, then peace and harmony will, in the end, prevail.
Goodnight.  And God bless America and the entire world.  Thank you.

Jihadi Who Turned to Jesus' Testimony So Powerful, 'The New York Times' Picked It Up - JESSILYN JUSTICE CHARISMA NEWS

Jihadi Who Turned to Jesus' Testimony So Powerful, 'The New York Times' Picked It Up

Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Nothing is so beautiful as the moment when you turn your life over to God, when you surrender your heart's desires and ask for His will to be done.
In the Middle East, staggering numbers reveal just how many Muslims are falling in love with their savior. Among them, former jihadist Bashir Mohammad.
His conversion is so powerful, The New York Times reported how Mohammad is a new creation in Christ.
Mohammad was a member of an al-Qaeda off-shoot on the front lines of the Syrian civil war.
NYT reports:
Mr. Mohammad flirted with extremism in his teens. His cousin took him to hear jihadist preachers as a 15-year-old, and he adhered to some of the most extreme interpretations of Islam, "even the ones you haven't heard of." But when war broke out in Syria, after the country's 2011 uprising, Mr. Mohammad initially joined the secular Kurdish forces in their fight for autonomy.
Mr. Mohammad's subsequent ideological journey rarely made complete sense. But by his account, he became traumatized by the deaths he witnessed on the front line, which in turn reenergized his interest in the extremist versions of Islam that he had learned about as a teenager.
"When I saw all these dead bodies," he said, "it made me believe all these things they said in the lectures. It made me seek the greatness of religion." Or, at least, his violent interpretations of that religion.
But when Mohammad saw Muslims killing Muslims, he drew the line. The cousin who first introduced Mohammad to radical Islam had found Jesus.
Mohammad picked up a Bible and was overwhelmed by the peace of God. So did his wife.
For Mr. Mohammad and Ms. Rashid (his wife), perhaps it was their dreams that sealed their conversion. As the couple began to consider leaving Islam, Ms. Rashid said she dreamed of a biblical figure who used heavenly powers to divide the waters of the sea, which Mr. Mohammad interpreted as a sign of encouragement from Jesus. Then, Mr. Mohammad himself dreamed Jesus had given him some chickpeas. The pair felt loved.
Now, the couple leads a prayer meeting among fellow refugees.
"There's a big gap between the god I used to worship and the one I worship now," Mohammad said. "We used to worship in fear. Now everything has changed."
The couple is not alone in finding Christ in the midst of chaos.
Muslim refugees fleeing the increasing violence in their home countries and cities are shedding their Islamic religion for Christianity, Charisma News previously reported.
"They have to leave their context and their families. They know that whoever leaves Islam should be killed. These wonderful new believers will become preachers all over the Middle East. God is waking up a sleeping church; a new nation of new believers is being born," an unnamed pastor tells Open Doors

Israeli Hospitals Treat Thousands of Arabs. Where's the Media Coverage? - Israel Today

Israeli Hospitals Treat Thousands of Arabs. Where's the Media Coverage?

Friday, April 07, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
No further evidence is necessary of the mainstream media’s anti-Israel bias than it’s total lack of coverage of the fact that Israeli hospitals routinely treat Arab patients from all over the Middle East.
Instead, the media paints Israel as a heartless and bigoted society that only wishes ill on its Arab foes.
i24NEWS showed in a recent report what’s going on at just one Israeli hospital, and it’s not at all what one would expect from listening to the likes of CNN and the BBC.
In cooperation with the Israeli NGO “Save a Child’s Heart,” Wolfson Medical Center in the central Israel town of Holon has treated thousands of Arabs in recent years.
Most of the patients have been Palestinian Arab children in need of life-saving surgery, which is fully covered by “Save a Child’s Heart” and the Israeli taxpayers.
Many other patients have come from war-torn Iraq. Others have from from as far away as Afghanistan.
In one instance, a princess from the emirate of Bahrain insisted on having critical surgery in Israel, insisting that only in the Jewish state would she receive the treatment needed to save her life.
Isn’t that curious? After all, Israel’s antagonists suggest that an Arab who falls into the Jewish state’s hands is more likely than not to lose his life. They say Israel is a nation of “child-killers.”
But here these Israelis are, not killing, but saving the lives of thousands of Arab children.
And the media is silent.

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog - Syria is a showdown between Trump and Putin over who is the dominant power

CBN-Syriainterview-Apr2017

New post on Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog

Syria is a showdown between Trump and Putin over who is the dominant power in the Mideast. [Interview with CBN News.]

by joelcrosenberg
(Washington, D.C.) -- Yesterday was the last full day of my five-week book tour. I must say it was sobering to finish by discussing Syrian sarin gas attacks and an American President's response to such attacks, given how central these issues are to the trilogy.
I was interviewed on Fox News and CBN News about the President's decision to order airstrikes against Syria, particularly noteworthy given that President Obama never ordered a military response in Syria in six years despite repeated chemical weapons attacks against civilians. As soon as we get the video from Fox, I'll post it.
Here is the online story that CBN News posted -- I hope you'll also take a moment to read it and watch the expanded video clip (which lasts 4:36 minutes) as I explain why it was so important for President Trump to do what he did.
Let me just add that President Trump urgently needs to determine and then explain  American national security interests in Syria, his goals for protecting U.S. interests, and then work closely with his national security advisors to develop a realistic game plan. American must not be lured into trying to fix a horrific civil war. Syria is imploding. Washington can't stop that. But the U.S. also must not allow terror states to use weapons of mass destruction with impunity, nor let the Russians and Iranians set up a new terror base camp on Israel's northeastern borders.
Please keep praying for the suffering Syrian people and for Syrian pastors and ministry leaders operating amidst such hellish conditions. Please pray, too, for the protection of U.S. forces in the Mideast -- as well as for protection of all Israelis, Palestinians and Jordanians -- from possible Syrian escalation. Pray, too, for American and regional leaders to have wisdom to know how best to proceed in a very difficult, very complicated environment.
Author and Middle East expert Joel Rosenberg says Syrian President Assad's chemical weapons attack against his own people and President Trump's response is a test between the new U.S. president and Russia's leader.
Rosenberg told CBN News, "It's not just about Syria. This is a test between the United States and Russia over who is the dominant power, the guiding power in the Middle East today."
The author of the new political thriller, "Without Warning" says President Trump's response was the correct course of action.
"These are war crimes and the president had to move. He has to reassert American leadership. We are the only superpower on the planet and we have not acted like that in the last eight years—we have almost no credibility in the Middle East and that's why Russia, Iran, Assad, ISIS all feel like they can act with impunity."
Rosenberg said Vladimir Putin did not keep his word and was not serious when he assured President Obama that he would get Syrian President Assad to remove all his chemical weapons stockpile from the country.
"That was a complete lie," Rosenberg insists.
The best-selling author says President Trump's retaliatory military strike sends a message not just to Assad, but to Vladimir Putin.
"…We are the world's superpower and there is a new sheriff in town. I think there is a sense among Israeli leaders and among Sunni Arab leaders that the tide is turning, that the United States is back."

Netanyahu: Israel's New Secret Weapon Presents 'Existential Threat' to Our Enemies - Israel Today

Netanyahu: Israel's New Secret Weapon Presents 'Existential Threat' to Our Enemies

Friday, April 07, 2017 |  Israel Today Staff
Israel this week officially unveiled a not-so-secret secret weapon it has been working on with the US defense industry for some years.
The entry into service of the David’s Sling anti-missile system completes Israel’s multi-tier missile shield.
Already for years the Iron Dome has been protecting southern Israel from short-range rockets and mortar shells.
The Arrow system recently went into service to defend Israel against long-range ballistic missiles. It was utilized a week ago to defend Israeli warplanes on a mission over Syria from enemy anti-aircraft.
David’s Sling is intended to fill the gap between the Iron Dome and the Arrow by knocking down the type of medium-range missiles of which Lebanon’s Hezbollah is believed to have tens of thousands.
With this multi-tier missile shield in place, Israel’s enemies are unlikely to do much damage to her, but would not survive a serious Israeli counterattack.
And that’s why Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned during the ceremony for the David’s Sling:
“Whoever tries to strike us will be hit, those that threaten our existence put themselves in existential danger.”
