Three weeks ago, a troubled young man named Nikolas Cruz used an AR-15 rifle to kill 17 people at his south Florida high school. We were all shocked by the news, but we weren't surprised to hear how acquaintances described the 19-year-old killer. He was called a "loner."
That is the same term journalists pinned to Stephen Paddock, the quiet gambler who fired 1,100 bullets from his Las Vegas hotel room into a crowd of 22,000 music fans on Oct.1, 2017, killing 58 people and wounding more than 800. And Dylann Roof, the 21-year-old white man who killed nine people in the 2015 Charleston church massacre, was described by his stepmother as "a loner and quiet."
Loneliness, it seems, can be deadly.
Americans today are lonelier than ever, thanks to family breakdown, media overload, long commutes and job pressures. Our population has increased, highways are more clogged and we are "connected" more than ever through social media, but much of our communication is virtual. Face to face conversations are becoming as rare as hand-written letters.
We have more coffee shops and restaurants than ever, but more of us eat alone or sit with people who are glued to their smart phones. We have more customer service than ever, but it's all automated. We have more retail outlets than ever, but we don't talk to a salesperson—we shop online. Soon, a drone (not a real human who might actually smile) will deliver our packages to our front doors.
Psychologists today have been studying loneliness—and they've proven that it can also trigger Alzheimer's disease, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, neurodegenerative diseases and even cancer. Science actually reveals that humans need close relationships, meaningful touch and loving emotional support in order to thrive physically.
Dr. Vivek Murthy, who served as the U.S. surgeon general until 2016, said he believes loneliness is the most prevalent health issue in this country. Another prominent physician, Dr. Richard S. Schwartz, declared in his book The Lonely American: Drifting Apart in the 21stCentury, that people who stay isolated have multiplied health problems and that loneliness is as great a health risk as smoking.
I've noticed that loneliness is a problem among many Christians, too. Many Christ-followers have turned their faith into a solo act. It's a "me and Jesus" kind of thing. We listen to our favorite preachers online, yet going to church is optional. Church dropouts ask, "Who needs people anyway?"
Are you starved for meaningful relationships? Have you become a Christian loner? Here are a few steps you may need to take:
Get involved in church again. If you've been AWOL from church for a while, wake up and realize that God created you to be connected to others. The church functions as a body, and people need you just as much as you need them. Hebrews 10:25 says: "Let us not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but let us exhort one another, especially as you see the Day approaching." If you skip church, you are also skipping the chance to get encouraged!
Join a small group. It's impossible to build deep friendships at church just by attending a Sunday service—especially if it's a big congregation where people can hide. Most churches have home fellowships, Bible studies or support groups where you can connect on a personal level. Afraid of meeting new people? Swallow your fears and go anyway, even if you feel awkward. It's possible that the people you meet will become your spiritual family.
Let go of your past hurts. I meet many Christians who have totally slammed the door of their hearts because they got burned in a past relationship. They don't realize that resentment leads to more heartache—and even sickness. Cutting yourself off from people is unhealthy, regardless of how you justify it. Ephesians 4:31a says: "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outbursts, and blasphemies, with all malice, be taken away from you." If you are full of negativity about people, your toxic attitudes will poison you.
Let God's love grow in you. God never called anyone to be a loner. He created us with the capacity to love—because we were made in His image. When we invite Christ into our lives, His love grows inside us—not only in a vertical way, toward Him, but in a horizontal way toward others. One of the best ways to measure someone's spiritual maturity is to look at how much they love other people.
God calls us to radical love. 1 Peter 1:22 (NASB) says: "Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart." The word "fervently" in the Greek can also mean "stretched." The Holy Spirit wants to stretch your love so it becomes God-sized.
Make a quality decision that you will not live in isolation. Refuse the temptation to pull away from people. Open your heart and be willing to make a friend, even before anyone reaches out to you. Let's drive out loneliness in the body of Christ.

Undeniable Proof the Prophet Isaiah Definitely Existed
3/7/2018 CHARISMA NEWS
Kim Clement's daughter, Donne Clement Petruska, says the recent discovery of the Isaiah seal is the fulfillment of one of her father's prophesies.
"Scientists shall say, 'What we thought was a fact has now become fiction,'" Clement prophesied in 2014. "For in Turkey, and in Iraq, and in Israel, there shall be discoveries come out of the earth that shall prove over and over and over the Creator of the universe whom they have said does not exist.
"'I will show myself, not only in the church or through the church but outside of the walls of the church,'" Clement's prophecy says the Lord said.
For Petruska, Dr. Eilat Mazar's team's discovery of a clay seal, called a bulla, fulfills this prophecy.
"We never found in archaeological excavations, scientific, stratigraphy such an item that is so close, private [and] tangible to any of the Israelite or Judean kings ever," she explained. "I believe it's as close as we can get to any biblical figure, not to mention such a figure as King Hezekiah."

'Ripped from Tomorrow's Headlines': What Joel Rosenberg Reveals in 'The Kremlin Conspiracy'
CBN News 03-06-2018
berg has written numerous gripping political thrillers – many of them dealing with radical Islam. But his latest book takes on a different threat to the US and the West – Russia.
Rosenberg's past efforts have turned out to be prophetic, "ripped from tomorrow's headlines." His latest book mirrors today's disturbing global developments once again.
In the book, an American president is focused on growing tensions in North Korea and Iran, even as an ominous new threat is emerging in Moscow.
Pat Robertson talks with Joel C. Rosenberg about his latest novel, The Kremlin Conspiracy, on Tuesday's 700 Club.
A czar is rising in the Kremlin, a Russian president feverishly consolidating power, silencing his opposition, and plotting a brazen and lightning-fast military strike that could rupture the NATO alliance and bring Washington and Moscow to the brink of nuclear war.
But in his blind spot is the former Secret Service agent, Marcus Ryker, trained to protect but ready to kill to save his country. Everything he learned to protect our president, he must use to take out theirs.
Rosenberg says the Russian president in his new book is not precisely meant to be Russia's Vladimir Putin but is "Putinesque."
"Vladimir Putin poses an existential threat to the United States," he said. "Putin is more dangerous to us and our allies than radical Islam, and that's saying something."
Although his book does not go into the prophecies of Ezekiel 38 and 39, Rosenberg told CBN News Russia will play a role in the end times.
"The Bible says Russia will become a major evil force in the last days before the return of Christ, that Russia and Iran and Turkey will form an alliance against Israel," he said. "We're watching Putin build an alliance with those very leaders that the scriptures mention. That doesn't mean that we're necessarily at the point where Gog and Magog, as it's called, is going to happen soon, but I don't know that we can rule it out, either. It's a very dangerous situation."
On the 700 Club Tuesday, Rosenberg reflected on how his own family escaped from Russian Czar Nicholas II and his anti-Semitic pogroms at the start of the 20th Century. He says Russia's current leader is similar, calling him "a czar" and a "mafia crime boss" who threatens the world.
"The challenge is that much of American leadership, and the American people, have been focused on Iran, North Korea, ISIS, al Qaeda – and these are serious threats. But Putin as a threat is rising," Rosenberg said.
"He's invaded the country of Georgia, and he occupies 20 percent of the country still. He invaded southern Ukraine, Crimea, and he annexed it, made it part of Russia. He invaded eastern Ukraine... and he controls it today. He sent military forces into Syria to help Bashar al Assad and the Iranians slaughter hundreds of people and create a foothold for Moscow for the first time in a generation or several generations."
"He is invading one country after another, and you know the saying, 'If you give a mouse a cookie, he'll want a glass of milk. Putin has eaten a whole bag of Oreos, and now he just grabbed the dairy farm and no one is stopping him."
Rosenberg talks about the growing threat from Putin's power grabs, saying Christians need to pray that President Trump finds a strategy to confront Putin to hold him in check.

Marriage rates have fallen to their lowest ever, prompting calls for the media, government and schools to support the institution.
Official figures for England and Wales show 239,020 weddings between opposite-sex couples took place in 2015—and that the marriage rate was at its lowest since 1862.
The Christian Institute, the Coalition for Marriage and the Marriage Foundation expressed sadness at the figures, highlighting marriage's unique status compared to other relationships.
Strong Foundation
Colin Hart, Director of The Christian Institute, said: "Marriage provides the strong foundation that families need to raise children, but is suffering from being maligned over many years.
"Instead of undermining marriage, we need politicians, the media and our schools to promote it as best for couples and best for children."
Thomas Pascoe, who leads the Coalition for Marriage group, said the government must stop "pandering to a minority who say all relationships are equal" and instead lend its support in the education and tax systems.
And Harry Benson of the Marriage Foundation said: "Future generations will not thank us for our foolish disregard for commitment and stability."
Religious Settings
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the number of marriages between a man and a woman in 2015 dropped by 3.4 per cent from the previous year.
Records on marriage rates began in the 1860s, but the 2015 figures of 21.7 marriages per thousand unmarried men and 19.8 marriages per thousand unmarried women is the lowest.
The statistics also show an eight per cent drop in religious ceremonies between 2014 and 2015.
Same-Sex Marriage
The ONS's Nicola Haines noted that opposite-sex marriage rates have generally declined since the 1970s.
She also said: "This is the first full year for which marriages were available for same-sex couples and they accounted for 2.6 percent of all marriages."
