Interview: ‘This Is Us’ Star Chrissy Metz Opens Up About
Personal Reason She Believes in Miracles

Chrissy Metz didn’t need to be convinced miracles happen; she’s seen them in her own life. Her new role in the upcoming movie “Breakthrough” just confirmed what she already knew.
The “This Is Us” star has gone against the grain for as long as she can remember. As a teenager, she was in church when other kids were out doing different things.

Looking back, Metz admitted during an interview with Faithwire, her commitment to her faith didn’t always make her cool. But it was what she needed at a time in life when things just weren’t easy.
“I was looking for something,” she said, “a foundation that I always found.”

The 38-year-old celebrity would have to draw on that very faith in August 2017, when her mother, Denise Hodge, suffered a severe stroke.
Uncertain she would make it through the night, doctors told Metz to prepare for the worst. But the actor, who plays the lead role in the new movie, “Breakthrough,” which chronicles a real-life miracle not unlike her own experience, rallied her sisters and told them to begin praying for healing.
“We’re gonna be very specific about what we want and we’re gonna visualize it, we’re gonna collectively talk about it and pray about it and only think positive thoughts about it,” Metz recalled telling her family.
The following morning, the swelling in Hodge’s brain had gone down. She soon regained the ability to walk and now takes more than 10,000 steps every day. She’s also given up smoking and is “the healthiest she’s ever been,” Metz said.
“For her to come [out] on the other side of that is miraculous — unbelievable,” Metz remembered. “Even the doctors were like, ‘Huh? She’s walking? I don’t understand.’”
Hodge is now working on her communication skills after being diagnosed with aphasia. None of that has knocked Metz down, though, because she believes things really do happen for a reason.
“We think we’re going through this really tumultuous time and we can’t see the forest for the trees, but really, it’s gearing us up for what is intended for us,” she said.
And that’s exactly what happened. Not long after her mother’s incredible recovery, Metz was approached by film producer DeVon Franklin, known for movies like “Miracles from Heaven” and “Heaven Is for Real.”
From the very first meeting with Franklin, Metz knew she was meant to portray mother Joyce Smith in the film “Breakthrough,” which tells the real-life miraculous story of a Missouri boy named John Smith who slipped deep into an icy lake in January 2015.
Smith was declared dead for about an hour before he woke up in a turn of events doctors can only describe as a medical miracle.
“The same words, almost verbatim, I said to my mother’s doctors as Joyce said to John’s doctors,” Metz said. “I thought, ‘OK. If this isn’t a sign — if this isn’t supposed to be — let me know.’ But I’m pretty sure there’s a reason why that just happened to click.”
After starring in the film, her first leading role in a movie, Metz said her belief in miracles has only grown stronger. Learning Smith’s story just “confirmed what I already knew,” she explained.
“Breakthrough” premieres in theaters nationwide Wednesday, April 17. For tickets and more information about the movie, click here.

3 Prophetic Words for This Season: 'Build, Transformation, Transition' - JOE JOE DAWSON CHARISMA NEWS
3 Prophetic Words for This Season: 'Build, Transformation, Transition'
JOE JOE DAWSON CHARISMA NEWS
Recently, in a time of corporate prayer, the Lord spoke three words to me: build, transformation, transition. The Lord has been speaking to me about the word "build" for several months now. In November 2018, the Lord was speaking to me about how the first 90 days of 2019 would be a season to build, move forward and accelerate. So, when the Lord spoke the word "transformation" to me after this, I knew that what He was saying is that it not only a time to build, but whatever we are building will be transformational. Whatever you are building in this season, God is going to use it, and it will bring transformation to your sphere of influence.
Transformational growth must come in order to prepare us for transition. Whenever God builds anything or prepares anyone, He is preparing them to be strong, because God builds for longevity. God is building foundations in this season. In order for a tree to grow tall and remain healthy, its root must go down deep into the soil to sustain its growth. Whenever an architect builds a skyscraper, he must dig deeper down and lay a firm foundation in order to support the height of the building. God is building individuals, businesses, ministries, marriages, families and organizations in order to bring transformational growth.
God is building firm foundations of character and integrity in many people in this season. You need to be seeking the Lord in holiness and in preparation for the transformation God will work in you and through you. The transformation is for the transition.
"Transition" is a trendy word in the church culture today, but I really believe that God is preparing many in this season for an upcoming transition. But don't transition out of one thing into the next without clear direction from the Lord. Transition is coming to you in order to advance the kingdom of God. If God transitions you into something new, it is to bring transformation to that area. Whenever God places us somewhere, God is strategically placing us not just for ourselves, but for everyone around us. God transitions us to bring shifts to wherever He places us.

This is a time to build for transformation and for transition. This is a time to build whatever God has asked you to put your hands to in this hour. I really feel like this month is a time where God is completing things and establishing many for the transformation and transition that are coming in the months ahead.
