Why Iraq's ISIS Escapees Are Coming to Christ in Droves

Why Iraq's ISIS Escapees Are Coming to Christ in Droves

"Could this happen to us in America?" That was the question from Patrick Klein President of Vision Beyond Borders following his recent trip to Northern Iraq.
The refugee crisis in and around Iraq is mind-boggling. According to the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR), there are more 250,000 refugees living in Iraq. There are another 426,000 refugees from Iraq. And, another 1.9 million internally displaced people (IDPs). That means there are 2.4 million people who have incredible needs in and around Iraq.
Klein just returned from visiting refugee camps in and around Dohuk. The stories he heard were heartbreaking. The testimonies of Christians were amazing. The needs of refugees, overwhelming.
President of VBB Patrick Klein says he visited Iraqi refugees forced from their homes in Mosul—many of them, Christians. "Most of them have lost hope, and they're just discouraged. They say: 'Where do we go? What do we do now? Maybe if we come to America or Europe, we can start a new life.' I don't want to see 300,000 Christians leave Iraq [with] no Christian witness left in Iraq."
Many of the refugees are college educated, middle class Iraqis who had good jobs and bank accounts to help support their families. That all changed with the Islamic State started taking over in June. "There were 52,000 security forces protecting Mosul and the surrounding area. There were 3,000 ISIS. They believe Maliki, the former president of Iraq, told the generals to lay down their arms and surrender, and they don't know why."
When that happened, ISIS started going from village to village forcing Christians to leave. "A lot of [the Christians] had Muslim neighbors they knew for 30 years. These Muslim neighbors said, 'Get out of Iraq. You don't belong here. We hate you Christians.'"
They were forced to either convert to Islam, leave or die. "One man told us: 'I think God is chastising us because we forgot God. We stopped reading our Bibles. We stopped praying. Maybe God is using this.' He said, 'I want to tell you, my family and I we're having devotions together every night. We're praying together. We're reading the Bible together.' He said, 'We realize that all we have is Jesus.'"
According to Klein, this trip was the hardest trip he's ever made. It forced him to ask an important question. "I thought: 'Could this happen to us in America? Could we be forced with a decision? Are we going to follow Christ or walk away from everything we own?' I pray that the church in America would love him passionately, that we would not lose our first love."
The spread of ISIS is also impacting nominal Muslims who are helping refugees. Klein says, "A lot of people—Muslims—are saying, 'If this is what Islam is, we don't want to be Muslims anymore,' and they're opening up to the gospel."
VBB is working through local churches on the ground there to provide for the needs of refugees. They hope to fill a shipping container. "We're going to send hygiene supplies: shampoo, soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste, basic toiletry supplies. And then, we're also going to send in some medical supplies: vitamins, Tylenol, bandaids and Neosporin–things like that."
Klein says you can either send in cash so VBB can purchase the supplies, or you can collect them yourself and send them to VBB's Wyoming office. Click here for additional information about VBB and their work worldwide.

Christian Bakery Fined $135,000 for ‘Discrimination’ Against Gays. Then They Get More Bad News.

Christian Bakery Fined $135,000 for ‘Discrimination’ Against Gays. Then They Get More Bad News.

Aaron and Melissa Klein, the Oregon-based owners of Sweet Cakes Bakery, learned Friday that the judge overseeing the sentencing of their discrimination conviction recommended a $135,000 payment to the lesbian couple which was refused service.
The backstory: two years ago, the bakery refused to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple, citing religious beliefs. In January, 2014, the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries brought charges against them for violating Oregon’s Equality Act of 2007. They were found guilty in January, 2015, with a financial penalty potential of up to $150,000, to be determined at a later date.
The judge’s recommendation was issued Friday. In a statement on the ruling, which awards $135,000 to Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer, for “emotional suffering,” the Bureau of Labor and Industries said this:
The facts of this case clearly demonstrate that the Kleins unlawfully discriminated against the complainants. Under Oregon law, businesses cannot discriminate or refuse service based on sexual orientation, just as they cannot turn customers away because of race, sex, disability, age or religion. Our agency is committed to fair and thorough enforcement of Oregon civil rights laws, including the Equality Act of 2007.
The amounts are damages related to the harm suffered by the Complainants, not fines or civil penalties which are punitive in nature.
According to the Washington Times, the order is not final and both sides have 10 days in which to respond before a final amount is issued by the labor commissioner. Also, either party could appeal the decision via an appeals court.
Melissa is clearly distraught about the decision in an interview she did for The Daily Signal:
In an interview with the Family Research Council, the Kleins responded to the news:
It’s very discouraging. This is not money coming from a business, this is not money coming from an insurance fund, this is money coming straight from our bank account.
This is money that should be used to pay my mortgage, money that should be used to feed our kids, not something that should be given to others. This is a decision I made because of my faith, and now the government is now saying it doesn’t matter, your kids can suffer for it as well.
You have unsubstantiated emotional damages — that’s what this came down to. There was never any physical or financial harm done to the plaintiffs. This was specifically to emotional damages. It takes a lot to explain where $135,000 comes from.
Immediately after the ruling was issued, the Facebook page for the bakery announced that a GoFundMe account was set up but a subsequent post stated that it was shut down:
This is what is written:
“The gofundme account that was set up to help our family was shut down by the administrators of gofundme because they claimed it was raising money for an illegal purpose. We have told gofundme that the money is simply going to be used to help our family, and there is no legitimate breach of their terms and conditions. We are working to get the account reinstated.
However, in the mean time, if you would like to donate, you can do so here: http://www.samaritanspurse.org/article/christian-couple-faces-135000-fine/
For all of you who gave to the gofundme account before it was shut down, we so appreciate your love and generosity. Gofundme has told us that we will still receive those funds.”
There is a donation page that people are taken to upon following the link:

Samaritan's Purse to Help Persecuted Oregon Bakers - Franklin Graham

Samaritan's Purse to Help Persecuted Oregon Bakers

Samaritan's Purse, headed by evangelist Franklin Graham, says it will help with expenses for persecuted Oregon bakers, Aaron and Melissa Klein.

The Kleins lost their baking business in the Portland suburb of Gresham, after they refused to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple in 2013.

The couple filed a complaint with the state of Oregon, which ruled the Kleins discriminated against the couple.

An administrative law judge fined them $135,000 on Friday and ordered them to pay the couple for "emotional, mental and physical suffering."

The Kleins also became targets for gay activists, who protested outside the Sweet Cakes shop and harassed vendors who came to supply the Kleins' business, which had been thriving.

"Basically, what has happened is that I have been stripped of my religious freedom. I cannot speak freely," Aaron Klein told Decision magazine.

"Now, all of a sudden, if you're in business as a Christian, you have no recourse. I have been told by some people that if you want to be a Christian and stick to your convictions, you should not be opening a public business," he said.

Conservative radio host Erick Erickson sent a link to the website Go Fund Me, where an account had been set up to help the Kleins. But Erickson sent out a message saying "Go Fund Me has taken down the account and cancelled the fundraiser."

Samaritan's Purse took up the cause. President Franklin Graham said, "They (the Kleins) have taken a stand for the Word of God, and they should not have to stand alone."

He added, "Please pray for Aaron and Melissa, and pray for our nation. When our judges are punishing Christians for practicing what they believe, that's persecution, plain and simple."

Today's Israel Inspiration

Today's verse, from the end of the Book of Genesis, introduces the blessings that Jacob bestows upon his children. Jewish commentators explain that really, Jacob intended on doing more than bless his children; his ultimate desire was to tell them about the ‘End of Days’ and the arrival of the Moshiach (Messiah). Although Jacob wanted to spell it out clearly, the details surrounding the Moshiach were hidden, meant to be shrouded in mystery and anticipated by Jacob’s family each and every day.

Jacob's Blessings

Watch the way Jews have blessed their children for thousands of years and how they continue to do so today using powerful verses from Genesis.

Israel Dispatches Massive Aid Team to Nepal

Israel Dispatches Massive Aid Team to Nepal

Sunday, April 26, 2015 |  Israel Today Staff
Israel on Sunday dispatched some 240 IDF soldiers to take part in search and rescue efforts in Nepal, which on Saturday suffered a 7.9 earthquake that left at least 2,000 people dead and many more unaccounted for.
Medical, logistics and rescue officers with Israel’s Home Front Command were among the delegation, which will establish a field hospital in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu.
In addition to aiding the local population, the IDF team will be tasked with finding and assisting an estimated 250 Israelis in Nepal who by Sunday afternoon had failed to make contact with family for friends back home.
Nepal, like many Asian countries, is extremely popular with Israeli backpackers.
Also in need of rescue are 24 Israeli babies born to surrogate mothers in recent days. The babies and their biological parents are to be flown out of Nepal via helicopters organized by Israel’s Foreign Ministry.
Immediately following the disaster, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin said: “Our hearts and thoughts are with the nation of Nepal who are dealing with a terrible disaster, and with our loved ones who are in danger and distress.”

The Supreme Court's Mind Made Up on Gay Marriage?

The Supreme Court's Mind Made Up on Gay Marriage?

WASHINGTON -- Next week, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear cases that will likely determine whether same-sex marriage will become a legal nationwide.
The justices have rolled four cases together that will allow them to decide two questions: must states recognize other states' gay marriages, and does the Constitution require states to allow same-sex marriage?
Some believe the justices have already decided to create that right before hearing the case. But others say the matter is far from decided.
On Wednesday, a panel discussion at the Family Research Council was swimming upstream against conventional thought on the issue.
That is, it's a foregone conclusion that the Supreme Court justices will rule homosexuals have as much of a right to same-sex marriage as heterosexuals do to traditional marriage.
But these panelists pointed out there's evidence the justices won't rubber stamp gay marriage.
"When the lawyers walk into that courtroom on Tuesday morning, they're going to be walking into a situation where there are three-and-a-half justices who've said 'no constitutional right to same-sex marriage' and no justices who've said there is a constitutional right," former Supreme Court Clerk Gene Schaerr said.
One of the more interesting propositions brought up at Wednesday's panel discussion is that maybe the Christians of the world owe it to the homosexuals to point out that their lifestyle is intrinsically wrong.
"Faith actually teaches nothing about hatred toward gays and lesbians; in fact, the opposite.  But it also says the behavior is damaging and harmful to your eternal salvation.   That's the faith teaching," John-Henry Westen, editor-in-chief of LifeSiteNews, said.
"But they also know from the empirical evidence that the behavior is damaging to your body as well," he added.
Westen argued that Christians need to say to gays, "We love you enough to tell you this is harmful.  In fact, we'll even take the hater and bigot label so that we can tell you this because we care about you."

Winds and Wildfire by Brian Britton

Winds and Wildfire

by Brian Britton

Identity Network

Recently I was ministering in a local church in Campinas, Brazil with my good friend Mel Tari. While there, the pastor asked us if we saw anything in the Spirit regarding his church or if either of us had a word for the church. As we began to pray for the pastor and his church, I began to see an open vision. After returning home and further prayer, I believe what I saw is a word for the greater Body of Christ during this season. It is for this reason that I felt led to share this with you today.

I saw a beautiful young lady walking along a path and leaving the confines of a building and passing through a gate. As she walked, I noticed that she was holding in her right hand a small stick and that at the end of the stick was a fire. I became aware that the young lady represented the Bride of Christ or the church of this generation. This was not a torch she was carrying by any means, but rather a simple stick. Although the fire was small on the end of the stick, it was made known to me that it was the very fire of God.

I could sense a hint of fear in the young lady as she was seeing the greatness of the land before her that she was venturing into. She felt as if the fire she carried was way too insignificant to be used to make much of a difference in the dark and thickly forested terrain before her. Beyond the forest were great cities and all she had was this simple little flame with which to fulfill her purpose and complete her given task.

Seeing the Wind

Then I looked with eyes of the Spirit and I saw the wind begin to blow. I was not just seeing the effects of the wind blowing but I could actually see the wind itself. It was the winds of heaven and I felt that it was the breath of God. I felt that God was showing me that He was breathing into the situation and life of the young lady…into the life of the Bride. The wind of the Spirit caught the flame of her little fire and proceeded to spread that flame with great speed. From this seemingly small source there was soon a mighty wildfire raging throughout the land. It began in the thick forest and spread into the cities beyond. With the power of the wind behind it, there was no stopping the spreading of what became a great and all consuming holy fire.

I believe that sometimes the church and many individuals often feel overwhelmed by the task of our generation and the callings on our lives. Maybe you too have felt that the challenges and obstacles before you seem too great? God speaks and gives us hope! I feel that God was showing us that no matter how small the fire that you carry may seem, that it is still the fire of God Himself, and that in this generation and hour He is breathing on the fire of the Bride. When the winds of heaven catch the fire that we carry there is nothing that can contain or stop the ensuing burn.

His love is the flame and it is indeed the most powerful force in the Universe. It brings life to the people and things of God and destruction to the forces of darkness. As a carrier of His Holy Fire, be encouraged in this windy season! This is the season of the wildfire of revival and renewal that will cover the earth and continue to usher in this great harvest among our families, communities and the nations. As we leave the confines of church buildings and institutions and go with the good news of the Kingdom, He is faithful to bring increase. The winds are blowing and will continue to blow…Run with your flame and trust His Spirit to ignite the blaze!
