Standing With Israel
One of the most enduring images from the Baltimore riots was that of the irate mother of a rioter vigorously admonishing and slapping her law-breaking teenage son. Millions of frustrated Americans, watching the televised images of mobs of young people burning and looting at will, no doubt wondered, "Where are their parents?"
Toya Graham, dubbed "the Baltimore Riot Mom" by the media, was one parent who refused to stand idly by any longer.
Some Israelis are probably wishing there were a few "riot moms" in the Arab neighborhoods of Jerusalem. The New York Times on May 1 published a lengthy, sympathetic report about two Arab boys, ages 12 and 7, who were arrested for throwing rocks at a bus in Jerusalem. The newspaper's correspondent, Diaa Hadid, reported that human rights groups claim that by arresting young rock-throwers, Israel is unfairly "traumatizing the children."
The article did note that a 4-year-old Israeli girl, Adele Biton, recently died from injuries caused by Arab rock-throwers. Although the New York Times did not mention it, at least 14 Israelis have been killed in rock-throwing attacks. Three of them were Israeli Arabs who were attacked because they were mistaken for Israeli Jews.
There are a number of ways that a rock can prove lethal. It can strike a passenger directly in the head, as happened, for example, to Esther Ohana, as she was delivering invitations to her wedding in 1983; and to 5-month-old Yehuda Shoham, as he was strapped in his infant car seat in 2001. Or it can strike the driver, causing a fatal crash, as happened to the driver of the car in which 11-year-old Chava Wechsberg was a passenger, in 1993; and to Asher Palmer in 2011, killing him and his 1-year-old son.
Even if the rocks that were thrown at the bus in Jerusalem last week did not break the glass, the jolt and shock of a barrage of stones smashing against the front windshield could have caused the driver to swerve, endangering the lives of both the bus passengers and pedestrians nearby.
Much of the New York Times article consisted of quotes from relatives of the two arrested boys, trying to paint them in sympathetic terms. The grandfather of the younger rock-thrower, Ahmad Zaatari, said Ahmad was too young to throw a rock more than "a meter." A meter, of course, is just slightly more than three feet, a distance that any 7-year-old rock-thrower could certainly cover.
Ahmad's uncle, for his part, complained that during his detention from 7:30 p.m. until 2:30 am, the boy "was terrified and had not been given anything to eat." While one can perhaps understand why Ahmad would have liked a midnight snack, the failure of the Israeli police to provide late-night food service hardly seems to be evidence of mistreatment.
The contrast between the mother in Baltimore and the relatives in Jerusalem could not be more striking.
The Baltimore Riot Mom saw her son throwing rocks, and she responded by pulling him away from the rioting mob, slapping him, and administering a thorough tongue-lashing. She made it unmistakably clear to her son that his behavior and was immoral and unacceptable, and that she, as his parent, would not tolerate it.
The Jerusalem Riot Relatives saw their grandson and nephew throwing rocks, and they responded by denouncing the authorities for arresting him. The grandfather and uncle did not exhibit an ounce of sympathy for the innocent bus passengers who could have been maimed, or even murdered, by the rocks that their boy threw.
All they could talk about was how Ahmad was scared and hungry and could not possibly have done what the Israelis said he did. The relatives gave no indication they would tell Ahmad that what he did was immoral or unacceptable.
There are many contributing factors that lead up to the moment when a youth picks up a rock and throws it at someone, whether it be in Baltimore or Jerusalem. Peer pressure, the influence of teachers, and the general religious and political environment all play some role.
But it all starts in the home. That's where family members have the opportunity to set a child straight—or to set him on the road to a lifetime of violence, bloodshed, and imprisonment.

Christian TV Show Host Reports Death Threats From Muslims

Randall Terry
Randall Terry has been threatened by radical Islamists. (YouTube)
Randall Terry has a Master's Degree in Diplomacy and International Terrorism from Norwich University, and has frequently done episodes showing the connection between Muhammad's words and deeds, and the words and deeds of modern Islamic terrorists.
Mr. Terry is currently working on a TV series: What Would Muhammad Do? Understanding Islam Through Muhammad's Life, and has now been threatened via mail to stop.
The letter came through the Coppell, Texas, U.S. mail facility, about a half-hour drive from where the two terrorists were killed in Garland, Texas, on May 3 outside a cartoon competition, from a Theo Van Gogh Society.
But there is no "Theo Van Gogh Society."
Theo Van Gogh was a Dutch Filmmaker who had his throat cut in broad daylight in Amsterdam by a devout Muslim. The Muslim man then tried to decapitate Mr. Van Gogh, but failed. Van Gogh had produced a film critical of the treatment of Muslim women in Islam called Submission.
The reference to Van Gogh's brutal murder is the warning: "Stop doing TV shows critical of Islam. Stop production of What Would Muhammad Do? or face Van Gogh's fate."
The letter strung Quranic passages together, to delineate the threat. Here are excerpts:
"This is a warning ... " (14:52)
"Muhammad is Allah's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers ... " (48:29)
"When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefields, strike off their heads ... " (47:4)
"Let not the unbelievers think they will escape Us. They have not the power to do so. Muster against them all the men and cavalry at your disposal, so that you may strike terror into the enemies of Allah ... " (8:59, 60)
"Those who make war against Allah and His apostle and spread disorder in the land shall be put to death or crucified or have their hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, or be banished from the country ... " (5:33)
Mr. Terry states: "Given the brutal killings at Charlie Hebdo, and the attempted killing in Garland, Texas, we take this seriously. But this is exactly what Muslim militants do throughout the world; they seek to terrify and intimidate opponents into silence. But we refuse to be silent. We will tell the truth. Jesus told us to not be afraid of those who can kill the body, but to fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
"However, we are not acting in a cavalier manner. We have given the letter to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. And we are taking measures to protect our families."
The Terrys have started a "GoFundMe" campaign to raise the money for appropriate security measures. Dr. Alan Keyes' video is posted on this site.
The Terrys' request prayer from the Christian community for the protection of their family, and for the grace to finish the new TV series, What Would Muhammad Do?
Mr. Terry further states: "The concern we now live with is felt by millions of Christians every day, who live under the shadow of Islam and Sharia law. We will be a voice for them in our upcoming TV series and documentary. May God protect them, and may He help us to stave of this scourge from our land."

From Passover to Pentecost: A Time to Ask the Lord to Refine and Reform Us

America must return to an understanding of harvest! The fields are white! Unless we move forward with a "harvest" mentality, we will not see this nation experience the glory that God is longing to release. Both Jew and Gentile celebrate Pentecost. The Jews call this time the Festival of Shavuot. Christians know this time as Pentecost, when the Spirit of God came. There is a connection between the two. That word is HARVEST! As you read through the book of Revelation, you see that the concept of harvest will be restored to the Church in days ahead.

The time we are presently in, between Passover and Pentecost, is known as "counting the omer." Incredible revelation starts pouring in during this 50-day period. This counting is intended to remind us of the link between Passover (which commemorates the Exodus), and Pentecost (which commemorates the giving of the Torah).
Leviticus 23:15 shares the blessing of counting the omer. The time is a transition time. Transition means you cross over into the fullness of the new ahead! The omer time is the time of looking at how you will consume your supply and unlock supply for the future. The word omer means to form and utter speech!

During this time frame, we are refined like fine flour, so that we utter the promises of the future without any impurities!

During our Passover Celebration here at the Global Spheres Center in early April, we heard speaker after speaker exhort us about the new season we have entered. This is our time to watch and war in a new way, and to allow the Lord to develop our identity of who we are to be.

This is a time to ask the Lord to refine and reform us, so that we can present ourselves to Him as an offering at the end of this 50 days culminating at Pentecost later this month. (Photo via Chuck Pierce, Facebook)

I believe the Lord is touching our hearts and mouths so we release the words that will help form our destiny. The word omer pertains to the utterance of speech. So this time frame is one for speaking into our promise.

These 50 days are a time for our mouths to be purified, so we speak what is pure. This is also a time of refinement, so we purify relationships so our promise can advance. I encourage each of you to speak into the place God is calling you to – Pentecost. Speak every day to get to Pentecost. By doing so, you are speaking into your refinement.

These 50 Days are a Turning Point For States and Nations! Prophetic Word for Australia and America

These 50 days are not only a personal turning point but also one for states and nations. That is why this week of prayer is so crucial! This is our time to embrace our destiny and move in the power of what the Lord is calling us to. Here is a prophetic word to not only the Body of Christ, but also to the United States and Australia at this time:

"Your feet will walk in a different direction this year. For even though you felt shaking ground last season, now you will walk on ground that is being solidified.

There will be many on your path that will flee from the anointing that is now rising up in you, from your feet. I will shod your feet with peace, in a new way. Then the enemies that have tried to get on your highway will move out of the way. For many enemies have stepped onto the highway that you're walking, but because you stood in the shaking, now the wind of My Spirit will clear your path ahead (Isaiah 35).

"I do have a fresh wind of My Spirit that is blowing, for I am coming with My breath in a new way.

As in the beginning when I breathed breath into that first man, and he was able to rise up as a living soul, I am coming with a fresh breath for you. Even as it was in the Valley of Dry Bones, when I breathed breath into those dry bones, and I caused them to rise up in a new way and become a mighty army, I am breathing My breath into a corporate man in the earth, in this hour.

No longer will it just be one person with the Breath of God, but a mighty army. A corporate man in the earth is arising with fresh breath.
"Even in this hour I am coming with a breath of God into lungs that have not been able to breathe.

I am coming into My people in a new way. The healing breath of the Lord is rising up, and to those that the doctors have said, 'There's no cure for you,' I say My breath is stronger than the report of the doctors. I am coming with fresh breath. So rise up in the strength of the Lord, and let the breath of God come into you, and see what I am going to do.

"This breath is going to give voice to My people, in this hour.

Where the enemy has come to stop the voice of My people, I am going to cause a voice to be released that will stop the power of the enemy. So let the breath of God come! Let the breath of God heal! Let the breath of God restore! For My breath is flowing in a new way, in this season.(Photo via Wikipedia)

"My wind will be like a vacuum, and I will suck out of you those things that you thought you could have never been delivered from.

The wind of My Spirit will both suck and remove, and then refill how you need to be filled, to create the identity that I have for you in the future. This is My day where Jehovah-M'Kaddesh, the Sanctifier, will come. This is My day where Jehovah-Tsidkenu, the Righteous One, will rise within you. Know that there will be a moment when you feel like your breath has been sucked away, but it's because I have pulled out things that you thought could never be removed. Then you will feel a breath come in that will fill you in a way that you will become buoyant with faith in days ahead."

"Dragons are on the Move...I am Mantling You with a Jehu Spirit..."

This also reminded me of a prophetic word given on March 30, 2014, which was previously posted on The Elijah List:
"This is not the same as you've seen in the past. This is not the same as what you've asked for in other seasons. This is a different glory, a glory change that I'm bringing into the land! You will shudder at the changes that are on the way in your land, and in other lands and with other people! For this is a time that the blood that runs deep will now be sanctified.

"This is a time that My Spirit will go deeper than I have gone in the past. For this is a time of birthing what is new, but yet bringing forth that which is old, and treasures will erupt!

Treasures will erupt! Treasures will erupt! I will bring forth what has not been seen, and I will cause your gifts to come alive in ways they've never come alive. You will feel the shuddering, birthing pains within you, and from that you will bring to birth the change that is necessary for you to enter into this season. (Photo via Wikipedia)

"So know this: Dragons are on the move, and even the 'great dragon' is now mounting up. Nations that will align are now aligning. So watch carefully and look deep into the circumstances around you for these are days of great change. Watch the signs on your road, for your road is now changing. New opportunities are coming. Watch now, for I will realign your path!"

Word released in February 2013, by Barbara Wentroble, Keith Pierce and Chuck Pierce, which was previously posted on The Elijah List

"I am mantling you with a Jehu spirit in this hour. I'm going to cause that Jehu spirit to rise up in you and overturn what has stopped the prophetic voice in days past; I'm going to give you the power and the anointing to break the power of that. I am resurrecting that gift that is in you, which was shut down and pushed aside. This is the hour that I come and I cause a fresh, new river of My anointing to flow through you. Reach out and receive a new mantle. Let the Jehu spirit come upon you to stop all the tactics of Jezebel. I say her day is over.

This is the day I'm calling the prophets to arise.

"I am the Ancient of Days, and I'm recreating a momentum for your life. I am slowing you down so I can accelerate you in days ahead. For the enemy has attempted to wear you down. The enemy has attempted to change laws and change times to begin to stop you from accomplishing My will. The enemy has attempted to trap you by getting you out of My timing. But the Ancient of Days is now rising over you to reset your pace ahead. Stand with Me and travail for the 21-day period that I tell you. And when you do that your pace for the future will be re-ordered.

"He is coming as the Ancient of Days, and because He is the Ancient of Days, there is an ancient key that He carries.

And in the carrying of this key you have seen the enemy take his place between you and the promise at this level. Press in, press in, press in and contend with the enemy because even over the next 21 days I will give you the strategy to contend with the one who has set himself to contend with you. And then as you have pressed the 21 days, I will hand you the key of the Ancient of Days, and then I will contend with the one that has contended with you! (Photo via flickr)

"Many hearts have been wearied and many, many minds have grown cold in My thinking process. But I am resetting heartbeats, and I'm opening up what's been closed down. I'm restoring and I'm causing you to walk in a time that escaped you in one season. If you will set your pace with Me, the next 7 years I will produce greatly for you and My storehouses will be made full." –End of prophecy

Let Harvest become a reality in your life as you move forward in days ahead!

James Dobson: The Fall of the Family Means the Fall of Western Civilization

James Dobson: The Fall of the Family Means the Fall of Western Civilization

Dr. James Dobson
Dr. James Dobson believes if the Supreme Court rules in favor of gay marriage, it's the end of society as we know it.
Focus on the Family's Dr. James Dobson is sounding the alarms on the end of Western civilization as we know it if the Supreme Court's ruling on gay marriage comes to pass.
In a letter prepared for supporters of his ministry, Dobson not only bemoans the potential ruling, but how the ramifications will affect all of society.
"I do not recall a time when the institutions of marriage and the family have faced such peril, or when the forces arrayed against them were more formidable or determined," Dobson writes. "Barring a miracle, the family that has existed since antiquity will likely crumble, presaging the fall of Western civilization itself. This is a time for concerted prayer, divine wisdom and greater courage than we have ever been called upon to exercise."
For Dobson—and Bible-believing Christians—the ruling on same-sex marriage goes beyond a social and political statement.
He points to not only the foundation of modern society, but to creation, as well.
"At least 5,000 years have come and gone since that point of origin, yet every civilization in the history of the world has been built upon it," Dobson writes. "Despite today's skeptics who claim that marriage is an outmoded and narrow-minded Christian concoction, the desire of men and women to 'leave' and 'cleave' has survived and thrived through times of prosperity, famine, wars, peace, epidemics, tyranny, and every other circumstance and human condition."
And now, to make marriage a platform for politics not only trivializes the institution, but plays God in a way that will be the downfall of life as we know it.
However, Dobson is not giving up hope. He clings to prayer, knowing the Lord will listen to godly petitions.

Why Are the Elders Following the Youth? - Michael Brown

Why Are the Elders Following the Youth?

youth group prayer
Why are the elders of the church looking to their youth? (Flickr/Creative Commons)

In the Line of Fire, by Michael Brown
I believe in today's young generation and I am deeply committed to this young generation, but I do not believe that the older generation should be following the younger generation. To the contrary, young people should be following their godly elders.
There is a reason that 25-year-olds cannot run for president.
There is a reason that 14-year-olds are not given driver's licenses.
There is a reason that the Scriptures call on the youth to submit to the elders rather than the elders to submit to the youth (see, for example, Lev. 19:32; 1 Pet. 5:1-6).
Of course, that doesn't mean that young people can't be wise, nor does it mean that young people don't have important perspectives on life, perspectives that their elders often miss.
That's why my ear is always open to young people, especially when it seems that there is a disconnect between the generations.
Wise elders not only lecture, they also listen.
A pastor recently commented to me that when my generation hears the word "homosexuality," they think of an issue; when the younger generation hears the word, they think of a person.
In this case, both perspectives are important, and if we don't take into consideration both the societal issues and the people involved, we will not have God's heart and mind in full.
At the same time, it is a terrible mistake to make our decisions or to make public policy based on how the younger generations feel.
Instead, it is our job to set godly examples for them, to learn to communicate effectively to them, and to do our best to shape their thinking and guide their conduct based on what is right and good.
It is true that the younger generation has more influence today than ever, and it is true that they are often the shakers and movers of our society. But that doesn't mean their perspectives are right or mature, nor does it mean that, rather than setting the path for them to follow, we should start following them. Whoever came up with such an idea?
To be clear, I'm talking as a leader in the church, where the Scriptures set the standards for us and where children are called to honor their parents and youth are called to honor their elders. I'm not expecting your average non-believer to show the older generation that respect (although, before the 1960s, your average young person was taught to show that respect). Yet even in the church, such respect is often lacking because of the over-exaltation of youth culture today.
To give you a case in point, a younger colleague of mine is good friends with a well-connected leader who hosts major conferences for young adults, and this colleague urged him to have a nationally known speaker address the conference. (The speaker was in his late 50s.) His friend replied, "That wouldn't work, because the speaker is too old. They'll hear it better from their peers."
Do we realize how wrong this is?
A good youth leader will inculcate a spirit of respect and honor for the older generation as well as for authority figures in general, to the point that they would consider it a special privilege to learn from an older man or woman of God rather than thinking, "What's that old geezer got to teach me?"
That kind of attitude is totally out of line, not to mention terribly destructive.
To repeat: I believe in this younger generation and I'm deeply committed to this younger generation, and I hold young people in high esteem.
Since 1983 (when I was pretty young myself), I've poured into college-age young people on an almost weekly basis and, to be honest, I'm with them so much and I feel so youthful in heart, mind and body that I'm always surprised when I look in the mirror and see how old I look. (Seriously.)
I'm in touch with young people day and night through social media, and I have plenty of open doors to minister to them, so in no way do I feel shut out or cut off. And I absolutely believe that young people can do mighty exploits for God.
One of my spiritual sons, Daniel Kolenda, who now heads up Christ for All Nations (which was founded by Reinhard Bonnke), led millions of people to faith in Jesus before he turned 30, and he is one of many being used by God at a young age. (Some are even younger.)
In that same spirit, Paul instructed Timothy to let no one despise his youth (perhaps he was in his 30s too) but to set an example for the body (see 1 Tim. 4:12).
The problem is the mentality of our culture, which has turned things upside down in a destructive and harmful way.
When our daughters were in their mid-teens (they're now in their mid-30s, each with two kids), they told my wife, Nancy, and I that we were too strict and that they didn't like our household rules. I told them, "I want you to make a list of everything we're doing wrong as parents and then to write out what the rules should be, and I want you to look at the list once you have your own kids."
We laugh about it today (their kids range from 14 to 8), since their list included things like, "No curfews and no restrictions."
That's why parents raise children rather than children raising parents, and that's why a few years ago, our older daughter said to Nancy, "I'm so glad you raised me the way you did."
Last week, I spoke to 2,000 teens and young adults at a conference in Singapore, and I asked them, "If it was up to you, would you have no mandatory school, classes and tests?" They responded with an enthusiastic "Yes!"
But of course. They're young people.
The fact is that the same generation of Christian young people that is much more "tolerant" about things like homosexuality is also dreadfully illiterate biblically, also having lower moral standards in general. (I fault the parents and pastors for this more than the kids.)
Why should we be following their lead?
To be sure, we should try to see the world through their eyes and be sensitive to the valid perspectives they have, especially when it comes to issues of social justice. But having done that, we should now help them integrate those perspectives into a biblical worldview.
When I was a hippie teenager, one of our mottos (spoken or unspoken) was, "Don't trust anyone over 30." You can see where that got us, and you can see how unbiblical that is. (For some excellent reflections on this, with important insights from the Scriptures, see "On the Value of Being Older" by cultural commentator Bill Muehlenberg.)
The fact is, our perspectives change over the years (in other words, it is not inevitable that the younger generation will hold to the same value system or worldview when it becomes the older generation), and a society that follows the counsel of the youth and scorns the wisdom of the elders is a society headed towards self-destruction (see 1 Kin. 12).
Thankfully, it's not too late to turn the tide in America and beyond, but that means that we of the older generation need to get our acts together and, with wisdom, maturity, sensitivity and compassion, live our lives worthy of the respect and honor of the youth, people who are called by God to be world-changers in the best sense of the word if we can help them find their way.

Will the High Court Protect Traditional Marriage?

Will the High Court Protect Traditional Marriage?

The Supreme Court has heard arguments for and against gay marriage, and a decision is expected by the end of June.

The High Court will decide if the 14th Amendment can require all states to allow same sex marriage. It will also decide if the amendment can require states to recognize same-sex marriages from other states.

"Only three states have actually voted for same same-sex marriage," Mike McManus, head of Marriage Savers (LINK), a ministry to strengthen the institution of marriage in America, said.

"Eight other legislatures have voted for it, but we have it in 37 states because the courts have imposed it in 26 additional states," he continued. "It seems to me it should be up to each state to decide whether they want to allow same-sex marriage."

McManus said he believes the Supreme Court will protect traditional marriage. He also writes a regular column on marriage and family issues.

What is the justices' current outlook on gay marriage and state's rights? McManus answers this question and more. Click play to watch.

Israel desires peace, both for itself and its neighbors. Sadly, since her rebirth 67 years ago, Israel has been forced to repeatedly defend herself against an incessant campaign to harm and destroy the Jewish state.
That being the case, the Israel Defense Forces must remain on the cutting edge, and must constantly be ready to exert force far beyond this nation's meager size and resources.
The video below is a powerful compilation of Israel's forces training for the challenges ahead:
