Prophetic Words Point to Move of Spirit in Ukraine - R. LOREN SANDFORD

Prophetic Words Point to Move of Spirit in Ukraine - CHARISMA NEWS

R. Loren Sandford
I feel compelled to call for intense and concentrated prayer for the situation inUkraine.
On the surface, it may appear to be only a political struggle between those who desire closer ties with Russia and those who want to integrate more closely with Europe. Having spent many weeks over a seven-year period ministering in Ukraine in both the eastern and western regions, I believe I can say with some certainty that a majority of Ukrainians in both the east and west do not desire a close alignment with Russia.
That being said, the real battle isn’t about political alignments or economics, although those things are indeed important. I believe there are underlying spiritual realities to be considered. I have long prophesied that Ukraine is a spiritual stealth torpedo in the arsenal of the Lord, a weapon of power that the enemy of our soul has not seen coming until now.
Historically, Ukraine has been a kind of innocent player on the world stage, ravaged by armies from Europe rampaging over it on their way to attack Russia and then trampled again by the armies of Russia driving back the armies of Europe. Ukraine itself has had little blood on its hands. Who would expect anything world-changing to come out of Ukraine? A parallel might be what the Jews said about Galilee: “They answered him, ‘You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee’” (John 7:52, NASB). The Jews used to ask, “Can anything good come out of Galilee?” And yet from Galilee came Jesus and the 12.
Powerful voices will arise out of Ukraine carrying a fresh stream of the Spirit and of power. Out of Ukraine’s relative innocence—and since the dissolution of the Soviet Union—a number of strong Christian leaders have been rising, mostly unknown and in hiddenness—hence my “stealth torpedo” metaphor. These are among the finest men of God I have met or had the privilege to know in my travels over the years. Although the number of charismatic and evangelical Christians in Ukraine remains small relative to the overall population, in terms of spiritual power and maturity their growth has been strong and wonderful to see. This has often been accompanied by signs and wonders that have garnered little attention outside of Ukraine.
It is my opinion that this political turmoil over the determination of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to align Ukraine with Russia and to turn away from economic alliance with the European Union strategically coincides with a time of ripeness for Ukrainian Christians. An underlying intent of the spiritual hosts of wickedness in this conflict is to dampen, squelch or hide the influence of a Ukrainian revival and Ukrainian spiritual leaders upon the rest of the world, as well as to simply create as much human suffering as possible.
In short, please pray for Ukraine. The consequences of what happens there go well beyond what you see in the news. There are kingdom of God issues at stake.

CBN News - Netanyahu: EU's Criticism of Israel 'Hypocritical'

Netanyahu: EU's Criticism of Israel 'Hypocritical'

Jonathan Goff CBN News

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu chastised the European Union on Thursday for being what he called "hypocritical" in its criticism of Israeli building in biblical Judea and Samaria (aka, the West Bank).
Speaking to foreign journalists at the annual Government Press Office 'New Year's Toast with the Prime Minister' in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said Israel made a great sacrifice in releasing terrorists from jail as part of goodwill gestures to coax Palestinians back into U.S.-sponsored peace talks.  Everyone knew that in exchange Israel would continue building new housing units in Israeli communities in the disputed areas, he said.
"We're keeping in line exactly our understandings that we undertook in the beginning of the talks," Netanyahu said.
"It was very clear that Israel was doing something very, very difficult…to release these terrorists, but it was equally clear that Israel undertook no restraints on construction and it was understood," he said.
Netanyahu said that to say the Israeli building was hampering the talks they're forgetting it was part of the deal.  He added that the settlements are not an "obstacle to peace" and it's a "bogus claim" to say so.
"I think that this is hypocritical," he said.
"Our ambassadors to the EU are now called in because of this, the construction of a few houses. When did the EU call in the Palestinian ambassadors to complain about the incitement that calls for Israel's destruction? When did the Palestinian ambassadors get called in to hear complaints about the fact that security officers in the Palestinian security forces are participating in terrorist attacks against innocent Israelis?
"Palestinian state-run television, school books and other activities regularly teach children that Israel is the enemy and they should work to destroy it.  They also delegitimize Israel's right to exist but the international community doesn't complain about it.
"I think it's time to stop this hypocrisy. I think it's time to inject some balance and fairness into this discussion. Because I think this imbalance and this bias against Israel doesn't advance peace. I think it pushes peace further away," Netanyahu said.
"It tells the Palestinians: You can basically do anything you want, say anything you want, incite any way you want, and you won't be held accountable," he continued. "And Israel that takes tremendous efforts to preserve the peace and fight terrorism for the benefit of both Israel and Palestinians alike, it always gets criticized. That's not good and doesn't advance peace."
Netanyahu also said he'd had an "excellent" meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah II on Thursday in Amman, where the two leaders discussed recent developments in the Israeli-Palestinian talks.
The relations between Israel and Jordan are based on peace and security, he said, and key to any agreement that Israel makes in the future.
"We all want to see the secure border, that quiet border that we have between us continue to be quiet and secure and tranquil," the prime minister said.
Palestinians want to take over the Jordan Valley between Israel and Jordan as part of a final agreement, but Israel (and some say Jordan) want Israel to remain there as a security buffer.

Israeli Experts Challenge Double Standards on 'Occupation' - Israel Today

Israeli Experts Challenge Double Standards on 'Occupation'

Sunday, December 29, 2013 |  Israel Today Staff
Two leading experts on international law, a former Israeli ambassador and a Jewish-American professor, are taking the European Union to task over the double standard it applies to the so-called Israeli “occupation.”
Professor Eugene Kontorovich of Northwestern University and former Israeli Ambassador to Canada Alan Baker have demanded to know why the EU recently signed a new fishing agreement with Morocco that included the waters of the Western Sahara, a territory that Morocco illegally occupies.
In remarks to The Times of Israel, both men noted that the EU’s approach to the fishing agreement is hypocritical just months after it published guidelines forbidding business dealings with Jewish businesses operating out of territories claimed by the Palestinians.
Baker and Kontorovich sent a letter to EU Foreign Policy chief Catherine Ashton insisting on clarification, but instead received a response stating that her office views the two occupations as being different. No explanation was provided.
The two experts noted that Western Sahara is not the only example of this double standard. For instance, the EU continues to do business with Turks living in Cyprus, even though Turkey’s occupation of the northern portion of the island nation is not recognized by the international community.

CBN News from Jerusalem: Potential Economic Sanctions Really Anti-Semitism

Potential Economic Sanctions Really Anti-Semitism

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- On January 1, the European Union could punish a Middle East country with sanctions. No, it's not over nuclear weapons in Iran; the E.U.'s target is Israel.
New economic guidelines would prohibit money going from E.U. member nations to Israeli communities beyond what's called the green line, also known as the West Bank.
In order to receive funding, a private Israeli entity must prove it has no ties to the West Bank (Judea and Samaria), the Golan Heights and east Jerusalem. The economic impact could run into the millions.
Some believe the move is part of a growing anti-Semitism moving across Europe.
Those new E.U. guidelines are being established here in Brussels, Belgium, at the European parliament. They represent a major economic challenge to Israel and could predetermine the borders of a future Palestinian state.
Tomas Sandell, with the European Coalition for Israel told CBN News these guidelines "basically restrict any type of cooperation, financial cooperation between Europe and these disputed territories."
"And it's more complicated than you would think because even if you would have one particular university wanting to engage in a multi-million program with the E.U., if you happen to have one professor say living in east Jerusalem it would be impossible with these new guidelines," Sandell explained.
Andrew Tucker, executive director of Christians for Israel International says the guidelines put Europe in the position of creating a Jew-free state."
"But I think the thing that concerns us most is the signal that it's giving," Tucker told CBN News. "And we're concerned that Europe is on the slippery slope toward forcing the creation of a Palestinian state and it will be a Palestinian state where Jews will not be welcome."
Tucker and others feel this "slippery slope" would pressure Israel to create a future Palestinian state based on the so-called 1967 borders, divide Jerusalem and make it illegal for Jews to live there.
"There's nothing in the guidelines to say that Jews are not allowed to live in a new Palestinian state but we would see it as part of a broader project whereby Europe is saying all Israeli settlements are illegal, which means any Jew living in so called eastern Jerusalem -- and you know it better than I do -- this is heart of Jewish Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria -- is illegal," Tucker told CBN News. "Once you buy into that, then it's a question of taking and implementing administrative steps to make it a reality and the guidelines is just one example."
Israel and the E.U. did sign an economic agreement recently called "Horizon 2020," but the financial restrictions remain in place for the disputed territories. Israel's representative to the European Union feels that hurts both Israelis and Palestinians.

David Saranga, head of the E.U.'s Parliament Liaison Department, said it will also hurt Palestinian residents.
"At the end of the day, we're talking about the territories behind the 67 borders. It means settlements, but it also means Palestinians living around these settlements are not going to benefit."
It reminds Sandell of the anti-Semitism spawned in Europe during the 1930s.
"For me this is anti-Semitism 2.0.  It's more sophisticated, but it's very effective in terms of demonizing Jews, demonizing the Jewish state and making life difficult in particular for those who would want to live in these disputed territories," Sandell said. "I know many people will be upset for hearing me saying this, but I do see similarities. Then they simply said 'don't buy from Jews.' Today, it's boycott Israel."

Even Palestinians oppose new EU sanctions on Israel

Even Palestinians oppose new EU sanctions on Israel

Monday, July 22, 2013 |  Israel Today Staff
Now even the Palestinians are fighting back against the decision by the European Union to boycott any Israeli businesses with a presence in the so-called "occupied territories."
A senior Palestinian Authority official who spoke on condition of anonymity told Israeli media that the European decision was not all that popular in Ramallah, despite ostensibly being made in service to the Palestinian nationalist cause.
"We have a number of officials at the European Union who are trying to reverse the decision," the unnamed source said.
The new directive, which forbids nations in the euro zone from doing business with "Jewish settlers," will not only weaken those Israeli companies, but will have a major negative impact on the Palestinian economy, as many thousands of Palestinian Arabs work for those very same companies.

Expressing the concerns of many, Sammer Darawsha, a Palestinian employee of at a Jewish-owned greenhouse near the settlement of Halamish, said, "The decision affects everyone, whether Jew or Arab. If they (the EU) take away our livelihood, what kind of peace will then prevail here?"

Editor's note:

"As they continue turning the screw,
The EU will suffer too;
As they mess with the Lord's plans
And divide up His Land."

Israel: EU Attacks Us Because We're Small

Tuesday, Jul 16 '13, Av 9, 5773

Israel: EU Attacks Us Because We're Small
by Gil Ronen

Israeli officials on Tuesday slammed an EU directive that will bar all 28
member states from dealings with Jewish communities located beyond
the 1949 Armistice lines, including eastern Jerusalem.

A high-ranking official, who requested anonymity, described the
European Union's move as a disproportionate "attack" on Israel.

"When it comes to disputed territories, the Europeans prefer to attack
a small country like Israel instead of taking on more powerful states,
because they're afraid of retaliation."

Israel was "only informed of the directive at the last moment," he added.

The directive, due to be published on Friday and take effect from 2014,
forbids EU member states from funding or dealing with Israeli
communities in the Golan Heights, Judea, Samaria and eastern
Jerusalem, according to reports.

It requires a clear distinction to be made in all signed agreements,
between Israel and the territories it occupied in the 1967 Six Day War.

EU spokesman David Kriss told AFP: "These are guidelines on the
eligibility of Israeli entities and their activity in the territories occupied
by Israel since June 1967 for grants, prizes and financial instruments
funded by the EU from 2014 onwards.

"It makes a distinction between Israel and the entities in the
West Bank, east Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip and the
Golan Heights," he said.

Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Ze'ev Elkin told army radio the
Europeans had made a "mistake" and that the directive would
undermine any return to peace talks with the Palestinians.

"It's a very worrying initiative launched at a bad time, because it
only reinforces the Palestinians' refusal to restart negotiations," he said.

Kriss said the EU wanted Israel to cooperate fully with the directive
to ensure its "participation in projects between 2014 and 2020."

But Elkin told the Haaretz newspaper: "We are not ready to sign on
this clause in our agreements with the European Union," but
admitted that the refusal could "halt all cooperation in economics...
(and) cause severe damage to Israel."

Palestinian leaders say they will only resume direct negotiations
with Israel if they are held on the basis of the lines that existed
before 1967, and if Israel freezes all settlement activity in Judea
and Samaria.

Israel insists they must be held "without preconditions."

Yesterday, Communications Minister Gilad Erdan accused the
Palestinian Authority for setting unreasonable preconditions to
talks, claiming they were seeking to start talks "from the finish line."
