He made the earth with His might - ISRAEL365

He made the earth with His might, He established the world with His wisdom, and with His understanding spread out the heavens.

JEREMIAH (10:12)

עֹשֵׂה אֶרֶץ בְּכֹחוֹ מֵכִין תֵּבֵל בְּחָכְמָתוֹ וּבִתְבוּנָתוֹ נָטָה שָׁמָיִם

Today's Israel Inspiration

While Eskimos may have dozens of words for snow, the Jewish people have several words for knowledge. In this verse we are introduced to khach-ma-TO (wisdom) and t'vu-na-TO (understanding). With such a strong value placed on learning and growing each day, it comes as no surprise that the Israelis have done it again with an amazing innovation!  An Israeli startup called Consumer Physics has created a new hand-held device which allows users to scan items in their environment and analyze precisely what they are made of. The applications are endless, from calorie-counting to discerning which pill is which. This innovation was made possible in no small part by equity crowdfunding team OurCrowd, which matches investors with promising Israeli startups like Consumer Physics, recently named one of the top Israeli startups for 2014 by Business Insider.

Startup Tel Aviv

What is it about Tel Aviv that spawns such incredible creativity and innovation? It's all about an ecosystem of talented people who constantly grow from challenges and are idealistic about changing the world.

Israel's Newest Innovation

Israeli tech company Consumer Physics has a dream: to bring our knowledge of the physical world closer to home.  Until recently the stuff of science fiction, their new hand-held device allows users to scan items in their environment and know precisely what they are made of.

Yesterday's Photo Trivia

Yesterday's photo showed the Israeli Air Force flying above Masada. Reader Vincent Morgan wrote: "I was working at the Masada excavation and dug up many date seeds, olive seeds, grape seeds, etc. in the bathtub room of the western palace ... Sleeping quarters for dignitaries was directly above that room and would have been furnished with fresh fruit for the guests. During the time of the zealots, they would also have kept fruit in that room. So, it was only natural that we would have found the seeds."

He who makes your borders peaceful - ISRAEL365

It is He who makes your borders peaceful, and with the cream of the wheat, He satisfies you.

PSALMS (147:14)

Today's Israel Inspiration

While the Bible makes frequent mention of military affairs and speaks often of soldiers, the important principle that emerges is that which is found in today’s verse. We must always remember that it is not our own efforts that matter, rather it is “He who makes our borders peaceful.” As we pray for the return of the three Israeli teens kidnapped by Hamas, we pray to the One Above to grant success to all of the incredible efforts of the IDF.

IDF Searches for Kidnapped Boys

You can feel the emotional power and significance of this mission as IDF paratroopers work tirelessly to search the hills and homes of Israel for the three kidnapped boys.

Urgent Prayer Request from Rabbi Tuly Weisz

The Chief Rabbis of Israel have urged us to recite Psalm 130 for the safety of the boys. Each and every day at 11 am EST, until the boys return home, we will be storming the gates of heaven and beseeching the Almighty with the words of King David’s Psalm.

Famed Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli, plans to attend a historic memorial event at the site of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp later this month, a source with knowledge of the matter revealed to The Algemeiner.
The event, which will take place on International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27th, will also be attended by more than half of Israel’s Knesset, other international politicians, and Holocaust survivors. The Knesset members will host a discussion on anti-Semitism at the memorial site.
“This event has the potential not just to be a memorial but to develop into a symposium for elected officials to discuss how the Holocaust and anything like it can never happen again,” Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein told The Jerusalem Post in September, when the event was first announced.
“The symbolism of the majority of the Knesset coming and standing with the survivors in a place in which 69 years ago they didn’t imagine they’d live another day is so strong,” said Jonny Daniels, founder of From the Depths, the organization planning the event.
Bocelli has expressed his appreciation for Israel in recent interviews.
In 2012, when asked by the UK’s Daily Telegraph about his best holiday, he responded: “A country that has really resonated with me and I was really impressed with was Israel. I found that the whole country had a very special atmosphere. I was there to perform but it was one of the few places that I’ve visited over the years that I had some free time to explore, and I was hugely impressed by all the religious history there.”
Writing for the UK’s Daily Mail last year, he said, “Places in the world I have especially enjoyed include Israel, which left a very powerful impression on me.”
Bocelli last visited Israel in 2011, performing at Masada in collaboration with members of the Rishon Lezion Symphonic Orchestra.
It is unclear of Bocelli plans to sing at the event, or just to attend as a guest.

Netanyahu Invites TV Viewers to 'Experience Israel'

Netanyahu Invites TV Viewers to 'Experience Israel'

JERUSALEM, Israel -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is taking time out of his busy schedule to star in a major television production by travel journalist and producer Peter Greenberg, the Prime Minister's Office said on Friday.

Greenberg, who's produced many international travel shows for PBS and the Travel Channel, is returning to Israel next week to finish shooting the segment he began last year.

According to the PMO's office, Greenberg and his 35-member crew expect to wind up filming here sometime next month.

Last year, Netanyahu said the goal of the project is to draw more visitors by showing "the other Israel" so people can see "this is a fun country."

"I am calling this project B'shvil Yisrael in order to raise up tourism even higher and to change the image," he said on the first day of filming at Rosh Hanikra last year.

"We are at Rosh Hanikra. We will be at Masada, the Dead Sea, the Technion, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in order to show the true Israel, the other Israel that is not seen," he continued.

"Peter Greenberg has boosted tourism in Mexico, New Zealand and Jordan and this is the goal -- to raise up tourism for Israel as well, for people to see that this is a fun country," Netanyahu said.

Israel hosted 3,520,000 visitors in 2012, bringing an estimated $36 billion in revenue to the tourism sector. The goal is to draw another 200,000 visitors this year, which would add about $1 billion.

Tourism Minister MK Uzi Landau said he hopes visitors experience Israel's beauty and are inspired by its rich history.

"We welcome Mr. Greenberg's return to Israel and remember, first and foremost, that he is a tourist," Landau said. "We will continue to work to increase the number of tourists who come to Israel every year to experience its beauty, become acquainted with its rich history and to be inspired by it."
