Clearing Up End-Times Confusion: What Actually Is the New Jerusalem? - MIKE WITTMER CHARISMA NEWS

(Andrew Shiva / Wikipedia / CC BY-SA 4.0)
We tend to think that our final destiny is heaven. It seems like that's what Jesus promised when He said, "if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, that where I am, you may be also" (John 14:3). Yet in Revelation, John declares that the place Jesus is preparing will ultimately come "down out of heaven from God" (Rev. 21:2) Scripture doesn't conclude with God's children floating on clouds up there, but with God living with His saints down here.
The biblical story begins in a garden of delight, and then it focuses on our embodied God who physically died, rose again and is remembered in the material symbols of the bread and cup. Our hope is equally physical. We long for our resurrection, when we will live as whole people—body and soul—in the new Jerusalem on the new earth. This ending may be surprising, but it is a fitting climax to the story God has been telling all along. If we back up, we'll see how the story began—with a promise.
Old City
God began His salvation plan by commanding Abram to "Go from your country, your family, and your father's house to the land that I will show you" (Gen. 12:1). and your father's household to the land I will show you." Abram obeyed, and his children blossomed into the nation of Israel, from which God promised to restore the entire world (Gen. 12:1–3). Israel acquired its permanent headquarters when King David captured the centrally located, impregnable fortress of Jerusalem (2 Sam. 5:6–10). David brought the ark of God to his capital because of what it meant to the people (2 Sam. 6).
Although they knew God wanted to bless the world through them, Israel betrayed Him and worshiped foreign gods. God punished their idolatry by razing Jerusalem and its temple and allowing His people to be dragged off into captivity. Jerusalem would be destroyed numerous times—by the Babylonians in 586 B.C., the Seleucids in 167 B.C. and the Romans in A.D. 70.
For the Jews, Jerusalem was:
1. The home of God on earth. David sings "praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion" (Ps. 9:11a). Asaph calls on God to remember "Mount Zion, where you have lived" (Ps. 74:2c) and God Himself concludes the prophecy of Joel with the cheer, "The LORD dwells in Zion!" (Joel 3:21).
2. The place where God will defeat the powers of evil. Zechariah prophesies that God will destroy all of His enemies at a climactic battle in Jerusalem (Zech 12:1–914:12–15). "Blow the ram's horn in Zion, sound the alarm on My holy mountain! All the inhabitants of the earth will tremble, because the day of the Lord has come, because it is near" (Joel 2:1). Amos adds, "The LORD roars from Zion and utters His voice from Jerusalem" (Amos 1:2a). Isaiah declares that "the Lord of Hosts (shall) come down to fight for Mount Zion, and for its hill" (Isa. 31:4c).
3. The source of blessing for the world.  Psalm 46:4 states, "There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy dwelling place of the Most High." Ezekiel 47 adds that this river, which begins in the temple, runs from Jerusalem all the way to the sea. The sea then carries its new fertile, fresh water to the ends of the earth. He writes: "By the river upon its bank, on this side and on that side, shall grow all kinds of trees for food, whose leaf shall not fade nor shall its fruit fail. They shall bring forth fruit according to their months, because their water issues out of the sanctuary. And their fruit shall be for food and their leaves for medicine" (Ezek. 47:12).
Pivotal City
Even before the carnage began, Isaiah announced that God would keep His promise. "Good news" would eventually come to Jerusalem, for "the glory of the LORD will be revealed" there—in a way that no one would expect (Isa. 40:1-11). God's glory was revealed when the Son of God came to earth. Jesus recognized the importance of Jerusalem, and He was "steadfastly set to go to Jerusalem" (Luke 9:51). There, He defeated the powers of evil before the dwelling place of God. His death provided life-giving water for the world. John records Jesus saying, "He who believes in me, ... out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water." John then explains, "By this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believe in him would receive" (John 7:38-39). The Spirit came to Jerusalem on Pentecost, where the life-giving water of the gospel bubbled up, streamed into Samaria and finally poured "to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). Those who are washed will join Jesus when He brings His new Jerusalem to the new earth.
New City
John's Revelation consummates the biblical focus on the new Jerusalem. Its descent from heaven means:
  1. God is here. John writes, "And I heard a loud voice from heaven, saying, "Look! The tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them. They shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God" (Rev. 21:3). Three times in this verse, John says that God will live with His people. The biblical story doesn't end with God taking us up to live with him, but with God coming down to live with us. He is Immanuel, which means "God with us" (Matt. 1:23).
  2. Evil has been vanquished forever. Jesus will return and "wipe every tear" from our eyes. "Neither shall there be any more sorrow nor crying nor pain, for the former things have passed away" (Rev. 21:4b). This perfect bliss will continue forever, for "No unclean thing shall ever enter" the new Jerusalem (Rev. 21:27).
  3. The entire world flourishes under the blessing of God. In spectacular fulfillment of Ezekiel's vision, John declares that a river of life will flow "from the throne of God and of the Lamb in the middle of its street" (Rev. 22:1b-2a). Its waters will nourish the tree of life, which bears monthly fruit, and leaves that heal the nations. Every nation bears the scars of their bloody attempts to achieve peace and prosperity. Their wars will continue until the end, when Jesus brings His kingdom of peace to earth and reigns over our world from the new Jerusalem. John closes his letter, and the entire Bible, with the only appropriate response: "Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus!" (Rev. 22:20b).

When It’s All Been Said and Done - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

When It’s All Been Said and Done
Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." And He said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true." Then He said to me, "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. "He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.” (Revelation 21:5-7 NASU)

When it’s all been said and done, when the times of the end have been completed, there will be One Who sits on the throne, having accomplished His Father’s will, fully established and in good order.

The Lamb of God, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Alpha and the Omega, Him who has risen from the dead – Jesus the Christ, Yeshua HaMahsiach - will rule and reign in His glory, power and majesty.

The One who gave all, who left heaven to become flesh and dwell amongst us, who walked with man for those years on this planet before His cruel, sacrificial death on the cross and His mighty resurrection – He will have received His Bride, dined at the Marriage Supper, and begun the celebration with the biggest party ever put together. With joy, peace and awesome love for all eternity, Jesus will have received His long awaited reward.

The King of kings and the Lord of lords – our Almighty God, is even now seated on His righteous throne. The royal crown sits gloriously on His head, as He rules and reigns forever.

With all those redeemed by His blood, who have given their lives for Him, from the times of Adam, Abraham, Moses, Peter and Paul; through the centuries with all the prophets, patriarchs, matriarchs, saints of God saved from all the nations, they too will receive their crowns and experience the eternal life that has awaited them in heaven. They too will rule with righteousness and honor.

In this heavenly realm, abiding in this New Jerusalem, there will no longer be any sickness or death. The persecuted and once heavy burdened will have been given new spiritual bodies, never again to experience lack, need or suffer through ridicule and being bullied.

Those martyred during the Great Tribulation, slain for standing for truth, believing in their Living Redeemer even as the sword fell down upon their head; who kept looking up to the One who gave courage and strength during their time of life, and then through their appointed time of death, will too join the heavenly ranks. They also will be clothed with white robes, washed in the Blood of the Lamb, and then seated with crowns on their restored heads.

Whatever we are going to go through in these times, the end of days, it will all have been worth it. The promises promised will have been kept.

When it’s all been said and done, our eternal reward will be to have our Lord and Savior Jesus (Yeshua) share His majestic home with us. What a glorious time that will be.

And it will never end.

Now think on this,

Prophetic Insight From Charisma: Rick Joyner: 2014 Is a Roller Coaster Year

Rick Joyner
Rick Joyner
When I prayed for this coming year, I was shown a roller coaster. This means we will have ups and downs this year. I realize that hardly takes a prophet to predict, but the encouraging thing about this vision was that the ride ended at the highest point. We're going higher this year! So don't be discouraged by the dips. Hang on, and know that we will be going up again soon.
Our prophetic friend Bob Jones told us several months ago that it was going to be a very hard winter. I think this one has already qualified for that. As I am writing this in South Carolina, it is 8 degrees outside. I don't remember it ever being that cold here. However, the great thing is that spring will certainly follow. The point is that we must hang on during any dips or hard times. They will come to pass, but they will pass! As Winston Churchill once said, "When you're going through hell, keep going." Keep going.
The roller coaster I saw was very rickety. It did not seem that it could make it through another turn or the ups and downs. It held together, though. I love roller coasters, but this one was not the kind I would get on voluntarily. We don't have a choice; we are on it. Even the strongest systems of this world are very shaky, and most can only make it through another day because God is holding them together. He is doing this for our sakes, so we should never stop praying for them.
A Glistening Train
In the vision, there was a platform at the end of this roller coaster ride. It did not look any stronger than the roller coaster, but as we walked across, it became stronger and stronger. On the other side, there was a beautiful, brilliantly glistening train, which we boarded. It was the most beautiful and well-appointed train I've ever seen.
However, as I boarded, I saw that when it left the platform, it would enter a long, dark tunnel that I could not see the end of. Even so, the tunnel was going up, and this was a powerful, mountain-climbing train.
We're going up. It may be dark and a bit scary for a while, but we are going higher. That was the end of this vision.
Trains often speak of training in dreams and visions. We may still be on a rickety old roller coaster, but the vehicle that is going to take us to where we must go will be training. This speaks to me of Ephesians 4—the equipping of the saints to do the work of the ministry. Even though it may take a while for us to see where we're going (the long, dark tunnel) we will be going up. This is the vehicle that will get us to where we must go.
The City God Is Building
It is the nature of the faith walk not to be able to see where you're going, but you should know what you're looking for. The one who started the walk of faith, Abraham, did not know where he was going, but he did know what he was looking for—the city that God is building, not men.
The cities that men have built are impressive, but once you see what God is building, you can no longer be impressed with anything man is building. It takes revelation to see what God is building. John saw Babylon until he was carried to a high mountain. Then he saw the New Jerusalem, which is the city that Abraham saw. It is still being built. Being a part of it is the highest calling we can have. Do you see it?

As we see in the book of Revelation, the New Jerusalem is the bride, the wife of the Lamb. As Don Potter recently remarked, it is an amazing thing how a bride can look like she is in shambles just minutes before the ceremony. However, in those last few minutes, she comes together and emerges so beautifully and so perfect that you know you have witnessed a great miracle.
This may well be just the way it happens with the bride of the Lamb. We may look like a disaster right up to the end and then, miraculously, we come together without spot or wrinkle. Never give up.

A Roller Coaster Year - Rick Joyner

A Roller Coaster Year - The Great Commission, Part 2
