"5778: A Vision of the Double Door"

We've been hearing the word "double" for this new season we are in from some of God's prophetic voices. How many would like some payback from all the enemy has stolen from you? I think we all would!

His people would see double blessing and double harvest for what has been sown.

"5778: A Vision of the Double Door"

We have recently entered the Jewish year 5778. The Jewish calendar is important to God and He has ordained certain dates on the calendar as key dates during the year. God is not restricted to one calendar and He works on both the Jewish and Gregorian calendars.

The Wooden Door

In the first few days of the Jewish year 5778, the Lord showed me a huge wooden door which I knew represented the coming year. The door was so much larger than a normal door, and the Lord was showing me that the coming year would be one where the people of God are given divine opportunities beyond what they could imagine. As the door opened the door became a "double door" and I felt the Lord was saying the year ahead would be one of double.

His people would see double blessing and double harvest for what has been sown.

I could also see lush, green fields ahead and it was like I was looking at a spring scene. I felt the Lord say they were fields of opportunity and fields of harvest. The season of spring represents fruitfulness with new things budding forth. I felt the year ahead would be one of fruitfulness and we will see God move in new ways in our lives and in the nations. I also felt a caution that it will be important to discern which opportunities the Lord is directing you into and which ones are a distraction from the enemy.

Next, the Lord directed my sight to what I was standing on. It was a solid, oak platform. I noticed how stable and strong it was. I saw scrolls of revelation on this platform. I saw the people of God standing on the platform, but the platform then became a springboard. I heard the Lord say, "This is a springboard season." Many people will receive specific revelation from the Lord on the coming year and the years to come. The springboard also represented past seasons as the Lord had used past seasons to prepare people for this time.

The people had laid a solid foundation and the Lord was showing me this was done through time spent with Him. It was in these times that the people were given the scrolls, the revelation, they needed to spring forward in this year and the coming years. The Lord was really highlighting the need to spend time with Him this year as it is in these times that revelation was given. The platform was for individuals as well as for nations.

With regard to nations, intercessors were laying a foundation for regions and nations. The Lord is highlighting intercession at this time, as nations are at a strategic time in history and intercessors will partner with God through revelation they receive to see His plans manifest in regions.

Golden Levels

At the end of the springboard, I saw golden levels or steps. I saw the people of God launch forward off the springboard and land on higher levels. The golden levels represented upgrades in the spirit. The people were launching into higher assignments and the next steps in their destiny. I was surprised by how high some of the levels were. They were so much larger than a normal step.

The people of God were stepping into a time of huge increase. With this increase in assignments, authority in the spirit, anointing, and areas of influence, also came an increase in accountability and responsibility to steward the increase well. I also had a knowing that some nations would also launch forward this coming year into a time of huge increase, harvest and launching into the destiny over their nation.

At the start of the golden levels, there was a treasure chest which held items the people of God would need for that level. I also saw many people swimming on the new level, not walking. Swimming represented the fact they were moving in the spirit. There will be an increase in the number of people moving in the things of the spirit and there will be an increase in the level people of God operate in things of the spirit. 

Psalm 31:19 (TPT), "Lord, how wonderful You are, You have stored up so many good things for us, like a treasure chest heaped up and spilling over with blessings – all for those who honor and worship You!"

2 Corinthians 9:8 (NIV), "And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."

Ephesians 6:10 (TPT), "Be supernaturally infused with strength through your life-union with the Lord Jesus. Stand victorious with the force of His explosive power flowing in and through you."

A New Sound

The Lord showed me the vision of the door again, but this time words began to appear on the door. The words represented what will be seen in the coming year. On the door were the words OPPORTUNITY, HARVEST, BLESSING, INCREASE, HOPE, WONDER, NEW, PROMISE and INHERITANCE. Not only will the year ahead be one of opportunity, blessing, increase and harvest, but the Lord is also saying it will be one of wonder where the people of God will be in awe and wonder of how He works in and through their lives.The people of God will operate in higher levels of authority in the spirit and higher levels of discernment.

We will see God move in new ways. Portals will open over regions and the glory of God will be seen and the plans of God for regions and nations will come to pass. People will unite for a common purpose and in vision the Lord has given them and their alignment will have great Kingdom impact. 

The positioning, aligning, refining and preparation of past seasons has been to equip people to carry what is coming. A new sound will be released from Heaven. Worshippers will lead others in the new sound and they will lead others into encounters with the heart of God. It will be a year of hope, breakthrough and promise. People who have had hope deferred will see a renewing and refreshing through promises fulfilled.

Isaiah 25:1 (NASB), "O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name; for You have worked wonders, plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness."

Proverbs 13:12 (NASB), "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life."

In addition to words on the door, I also saw two Scriptures come before me for the coming year:

1 Corinthians 2:9 (ISV), "But as it is written, 'No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love Him.'"

Psalm 2:8 (NASB), "Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as your inheritance, and the very ends of the earth as Your possession."

I felt so much expectation on what is in store for the people of God. I also felt a greater call to intercession for the nations as well as an invitation from the Lord to "ask for the nations" for it is His desire for us to ask Him for that which He has placed on our heart.

As we have entered the Jewish year 5778, there is so much expectancy for all the Lord has planned.

Be purposeful about spending time with the Lord and establishing a solid springboard from which you will receive revelation and be launched into the areas of increase and upgrade. 

A time of opportunity, harvest, hope, wonder, promise and inheritance awaits. It will be a time where the Lord moves in new ways in your life and in the nations.

"When God Tells You To Do Something, Do It By Faith"

Receive in Faith

I have so many emails from people who are confused about the "direction" God wants them to take. Not sure whether to move, or where to? Or what is next in their life? House hard to sell?

Well, let me tell you, you don't have to do trial and error. Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice." We need to sit still and listen. But sit still in faith, believing YOU CAN HEAR. 

Everything we receive from God we receive by faith only, there is nothing we can do to earn it, so you have to make a decision that you can hear because Jesus said you could hear. 

And what He says, you have to get in your spirit, not just in your head.

The Holy Spirit is a Spirit of faith, and it needs to be the Holy Spirit who is operating, as His faith is supernatural. It's not the natural faith that moves mountains – it's the faith that God gave to us by His Spirit. He has already given it to you when you got born again and to every man and woman is given "the measure of faith."

One time, we were confused about what God had for us. We had many words given to us, but some of them caused even more confusion. It felt like I was pushing doors that just wouldn't open. Then I had a dream, and in the dream I was sitting down on the floor in the middle of a very dark room. I couldn't see anything at all, and for sure I couldn't see where the door was. But I waited in faith, believing God would show me. After a short while, a light shone on a door and it was so easy then. I just got up and walked to the door, opened it and went out.

The Word of the Lord Releases Faith

"Let your faith work in hearing from God."

If the Lord gives us a word, like when we left Orlando, it will release faith. We had a church in Orlando, and we were enjoying Orlando. We had been there about ten years, and as I was driving one day, the Lord said to me, "It's time to leave this place and wipe off the dust from your feet." I was shocked! By the way, "Wiping the dust from your feet" means that you put things right as much as you can with people you've had disagreements with.

I told David and we asked the Lord to confirm it from outside (someone that didn't know of the situation). I thought of a friend in England who I knew heard from God very clearly. I asked the Lord to get Harry Greenwood to call me. And I said, "Harry has to say the same thing to me as You."

A few days later, I remembered what I said and reminded the Lord that He needed to have Harry call me. About five minutes later the phone rang and I answered. It was Harry. "Harry Greenwood here, what's going on?"

"Harry," I said, "Where are you?"

"I don't know," he said, "some restaurant in Arizona."

Harry never called people, as he had a wife, a secretary and an assistant who always called for him.

"Well," I said (I didn't want to tell him anything of course), we're having a good time."

"It's time for you to leave that place and wipe off the dust from your feet, OK," Harry said. He prayed a prayer and put down the phone. He prayed for some divine connections. (Photo via deviantart)

When that word came, it released God's faith (not our natural faith). Now we had to move on.

"OK God," I said. "You will have to tell us how to sell the house."

Selling and Moving On

Where we lived, the area was overbuilt and the builders were getting people houses at very low-interest rates loans, so our house was hard to sell.

The next day the Holy Spirit said to me, "Take $200 and go to Home Depot. Buy $200 dollars worth of brightly colored flowers and put them in the front yard and put out a 'for sale by owner' sign."

I did all that and put the flowers in the front yard, etc. with the, "for sale by owner" sign. A couple of weeks later, I was sitting, reading my Bible, and the Lord spoke to me, "The man who is going to buy the house is coming today."

So I got up and tidied the house. About 10 am, the phone rang. It was a lady who said, "We saw your sign. Can we come and see the house this morning?" I said "OK," and we made an appointment.

This couple came and looked at the house. The lady said to me, "Actually, we weren't looking in this area really, but every time we drove by, I noticed those flowers. I love flowers."

So the flowers were just an "attention getter". God told David what price to ask for the house. The couple said they liked the house, but they had an appointment in South Florida to look at a house near a golf course. They said it was a very good deal, so they wanted to check it out. They went off to South Florida.

Two days later as I woke, up, I had a vision of the man and he stumbled and almost fell over. I prayed in the spirit. Later that day, I had another vision of his limo pulling up to our house. He got out of the limo with his shirt over his arm. This was very unusual, as he was very immaculate. Suit and tie, even when it was 100 degrees.

Two days later in the afternoon, in the middle of my daughter's birthday party, the limo drove up and the man got out of the limo with his shirt over his arm, just as I saw in my vision. He explained that the air conditioning in the limo had broken and wasn't working.

"Everything we receive from God we receive by faith only."

They came in and sat down. "We decided to buy the house," he said, "but a very strange thing happened to me down in South Florida."

He was looking at us very strangely, and a bit scared. "What happened?" I asked.

"The place we went to see offered us such a good deal on some property. I was sitting down with the pen in my hand to sign the contract, and suddenly my hand froze and I couldn't move it, so I dropped the pen and left, and here I am."

Well, there was a lot more supernatural things that happened during this sale. He asked us where we were moving to and we told him that God hadn't told us yet. He let us rent the house for $800 a month until God showed us where He wanted us to go.

The man told us in the end that when he was a young man, his three-year-old daughter was dying of Leukemia in the hospital. He knelt by the bed and said to God, "If You heal my daughter, I'll serve You."

The next day his little girl left the hospital completely healed, but he never did keep his end of the bargain. When he met us and he saw God was so involved in our lives, God challenged him again about his word. I don't know what he did because we moved on. 

To make a long story short, all of our moves have been like this.

Are You Open?

The point is that you can't move God with your natural faith, but He can release HIS FAITH and move you in His purposes. 

Maybe you need to get a word from the Lord to confirm what He wants for you where you are, doing what you are doing. All His provision is in His purpose. So let your faith work in hearing from God. You can't move the Rock, but the Rock can move you.

If He wants you to live in England, are you open? If He wants you to live in Kenya, are you open? It's yielding to His purposes and to His Spirit. He moves you; you don't move God. His faith is released for His purposes. His anointing is also released in His purposes. His anointing comes by yielding, not by trying. Trying and striving will take you out of the Holy Spirit realm.

This is quite an encounter that Joey LeTourneau recently had about the "Father's house." As I read through it, I thought of that popular song, "Big House" by Audio Adrenaline, which is all about the Father's house.

This truly is like reading a mini-storybook that will certainly pique your interest throughout.

I'm not going to give much away, but I will share this part of Joey's encounter with you:

I stepped from the hardwood entryway in front of the grandfather clock, through the archway, and onto the carpet. Where had they all come from? Tribe, tongue, nation—everyone was here! Standing, sitting, kneeling, and even playing! Some were shouting, others whispering, more were laughing, singing, and plenty were praying and interceding.

That's right...every nation, tribe and tongue are in the Father's house...and YOU get to invite them in.

"A Vision of the Family Room in Our Father's House"

"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be on in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me." (John 17:20-21)

God's family structure is where we come together in such an unlikely and uncommon form of unity, overcoming the division of the old structure, and restoring an identity-laden, diversity-celebrated family. We are His sons and daughters who each reveal the Father differently and becoming one with the life of the Son as He prayed in John 17—that the world may believe.

Family is a kingdom form of government we are bringing from Heaven to earth, from the Father's heart to yours. 

There is a reason that "family" has become such a broken, painful thing for so many people—because the enemy wants us to take earth's broken version of family and attribute it to the Father as if that brokenness came from Him.

"Don't just tell them the Son made room for them in the house. Show them. Let them feel it!"

When we learn God's true heart for family as the good Father that He is and through the family structure He has set in place, we will rebuild the house that has been divided on earth with the one He has always been constructing from Heaven. God's eternal model for family is the blueprint the world needs right now—and it's the blueprint that the Body's heart needs as well.

Right now, it's easy to look around and see the cracks flowing through the floors and walls of an old structure. The good news is—that's not the house our Father is building anymore. There's a much more glorious family house being rebuilt from the inside out—from the DNA of a Father, His Son, the spirit of adoption and His growing family. As soon as we recognize the true house He is building, then we will know how to bring it to life for the world around us to experience as well.

"Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the end of the earth for Your possession." (Psalm 2:8)

The following is a vision and journey the Lord led me into, experiencing part of God's potential "family room" coming to life.

A Vision of the Family Room

I stepped from the hardwood entryway in front of the grandfather clock, through the archway, and onto the carpet. Where had they all come from? Tribe, tongue, nation—everyone was here! Standing, sitting, kneeling, and even playing! Some were shouting, others whispering, more were laughing, singing, and plenty were praying and interceding.

"This is the family room," my host and guide, Angelo, clarified (Angelo was an angel who took me on a tour of the Father's house in my encounter). "In here the nations are found together every day in perfect unity, in more ways than you could imagine. All aspects of family context happen in this room—together!" (Photo via Flickr)

"This room is not unlike the throne room of Heaven," Angelo continued, "Where every tribe, tongue and nation will worship the Father together for eternity. The same Spirit is here."

Just as he said that, a Frisbee whizzed right by my nose. "Quite a game they've got going there," I interjected.

"Oh yes, joy and fun are one of the most important ways to come together as a family to worship the Father."

I looked over to see a group from multiple nations all gathered around an old, but in-tune piano. A board game of world expansion was going on in the corner, though I suspected there wasn't really an end to the room but that the corner was merely my understanding of it.

A remote control plane dodged the fan over the coffee table as it flew through the air. Oh, and the smell of coffee coming from that table, wow! From now on, I want coffee the way Dad makes it because whatever was coming out of those mugs smelled straight from Heaven.

Everywhere I looked around the room the worldwide goodness of God was palatable. I loved seeing the kids all piled together—not separated by country or denominational lines—laughing away on the couch as they watched cartoons.

I saw a group from one culture teaching another group to dance. People were passing and sharing favorite snacks with anyone around them, and others gathered interceding for theirs or another nation. Again, as I had been learning throughout this experience it wasn't necessarily about inclusion, but belonging. Anyone had an invite, but unfortunately not everyone was here.

Moving this Unity into the World

"Family is a kingdom form of government we are bringing from Heaven to earth, from the Father's heart to yours."

I started thinking more about what I had wondered regarding the corner of the room. Does the room end there? How do we let the world feel this? How do we take what is happening in this room—this kind of love, joy and unity, and make it felt outside these walls?

Angelo came over as I was staring into the corner and said, "Wondering if they're real?"

"What, the walls?" I responded acting like he hadn't seen my curiosity.

"Yes, the walls. Are they real?" Angelo asked me directly this time.

"I, I don't know..." I said, shrugging my shoulders. "That's what I'm trying to figure out."

"Don't worry," he said. "They're not. People are usually the one's who build walls, not God. It's usually your limits, understanding, perspective—or lack thereof—that creates walls. 

The Father's nature is the ceiling, and it is limitless. It will stretch out as far as you will allow the walls to go. In that, part of His nature is truth, so it doesn't stretch according to your ways, but His. In a sense, you are the walls and He is the ceiling or roof. As far as you will take these walls to love the world like family, the more His house can grow.

"The atmosphere you sense in this room is another part of the Father's nature that shouldn't be reserved within any building or program but carried out into the streets, the offices and the most unlikely places. That's why you have to taste it in this manner, so you know the spirit of family that you can show to many more.

"Don't just tell them the Son made room for them in the house. Show them. Let them feel it! 

The Father is not so much looking for you to build Him a house like this, but He is wanting to make you into this kind of house, this kind of room, where people of all tongues, tribes and nations can experience what eternity is all about—His family restored and together!" (Photo via Pixabay)

I kept looking around the room, but now with my imagination lifting off the limits and walls that my eyes and understanding had built. I could see so much more. Those in the room when I first got there—though many—paled in comparison to the multitude of people, to the abundance of life, and the fullness of joy that was happening here right now.

It wasn't just that I needed to learn to see the world as family; I had to get beyond my own walls of how I built His house to do so. The more He re-modeled my perspective, the more He made me personally into a house. The expansion of the Father's family house began with that same kind of expansion within me.

"Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not spare. Lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes. For you shall expand to the right and to the left, and your descendants will inherit the nations, and make the desolate cities inhabited." (Isaiah 54:2-3) (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Prophecy: Your Extensive Spiritual Warfare Is About to Become Your Increase

If you have been through an extensive season of warfare, especially in the last nine months, as the Hebrew year 5777 brought about a clashing of kingdoms and an increased tension between your barren place and your promise, you will now find starting this month—the warfare begins to convert into your increase and advancement.

This is where it pays off! This is far from just a feel-good word but more of a kairos word burning hot in my spirit. I feel like I have been birthing this deep in my belly for weeks now, and I pray it unleashes encouragement, strength and life back to you—shifting your eyes off the storm and back onto the Promised Land in front of you.

The Enemy Caught Out

Recently, through a series of dreams, God began showing me the significance of this season and why it feels like all of hell has been dispatched to bring every believer down. I hear it every day, not to mention that we have experienced more warfare this year than ever before. This tells me that there is something valuable the enemy doesn't want us accessing.

In one dream, I saw the body of Christ backed into a corner with many dark and evil voices of slander and opposition ridiculing and mocking her; kicking, cursing and accusing her. It was as if the sole focus of the enemy was to intimidate and bully the church into a defenseless position until she ran out of energy, hope and vision. But suddenly, I heard an almighty, loud sound of, "No more! No more! No more!" This sound resounded until the body rose up and fought back, and the enemy shrieked and ran in terror. She then stood up and opened a door that said "destiny" upon it.

This speaks volumes to me about the season we are in as the body of Christ. Once bullied and intimidated into the corner, feeling weak and powerless, we suddenly were rising up, overcoming and defeating the obstacles that the enemy placed before us.

This is truly a season of discovering the power and authority we possess and beginning to take dominion in the earth; seizing back the mountains of influence for the kingdom and awakening the earth to the sound of triumph and freedom.

In another dream, a man came to my door trying to steal my mail. He was madly racing around my house in an attempt to break in and steal my mail, trying to take "an invitation" he thought I wasn't meant to open. The next day, the Lord said to me that the enemy is trying to intercept the invitation that will release people into their breakthrough and promise. He is doing anything he can to distract people in one area so he can enter through another route into our lives that we didn't expect, to rob us from the promise. I say no more to you being robbed, and that repayment begins now!

"But if he is found, he will restore sevenfold; he will give all the substance of his house" (Prov. 6:31).

As Fuel for the Fire

For over two years now, our youngest daughter, Sophie, has been constantly facing a specific health issue that has found us in the ER many times and for multiple days at a time. It would always happen at times we were experiencing breakthrough or we could sense that we were about to. Recently, one early morning, Sophie was yet again in the ER for these same issues (that we have actually seen miraculously healed in services we have been in).

So here we were with her, surrounded by a few doctors discussing the situation, but despite the negative tones and the facts of what they were saying, something in my spirit said, "No, this is a violation!" I felt like I had just had enough from being ripped off. I got up and began praying in the spirit when suddenly this Scripture came to me.

"For all the sandals of the tramping warriors and all the garments rolled in blood shall be burned as fuel for the fire" (Isa. 9:5).

Something happened in that moment I won't forget, like an out-of-body experience, almost celebrating the soon to come victory. It was like I could taste it! When you have been through the fire enough, you begin to learn that victory always follows—every time. Sure enough, God turned the situation around, and the doctors were confused by her rapid recovery. It reminded me of the Scripture: "And having disarmed authorities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them by the cross" (Col. 2:15).

When God fights for you and shuts down the enemy's plans, it becomes a public spectacle. It becomes a beacon to the world that you have something different about you, or rather living inside of you. If you haven't experienced breakthrough, don't feel condemned. Just know that God is changing your win-history, and it's about time that you see every dark and crushing moment of your life become fuel for the fire—and converted into blessing.

I prophesy that you are about to see the enemy caught out in many areas he has been stealing from you, and I prophesy that you will step into a new arena of breakthrough and victory that you didn't have before in Jesus' name!

This Is Your 'No More' Moment!

Maybe like Joseph you have felt like your life has been a constant string of unjust situations, and maybe right now you still feel imprisoned. You need to know that nothing goes to waste. Like Joseph said in this passage as he was upgraded to the second in charge of Egypt: "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many lives" (Gen. 50:20).

I see the enemy being caught out in your life where you have been delayed and diverted, sideswiped and paralyzed. I prophesy that this is a time of repayment for every area you have been robbed and harassed. You will experience a seven-fold return for every attack sent to your doorstep.

Every place of harm the enemy brought to your home, your spouse, children and extended family, every bondage and stronghold he latched to your family line that wreaked havoc, and every inch of death and sorrow he inflicted upon you—is being broken right now!

You are a dangerous weapon in God's hand, and right now there is a sound of awakening ringing around the earth. The enemy is going to wish he didn't mess with you because of the unrelenting and unstoppable fire that is released everywhere you go, disrupting systems of chaos and captivity in your wake. The floodgates are now open and it's a time of recompense and vindication for what was stolen. Can you hear the sound of awakening?

This is your no more moment. Your moment to make a declaration and prayer—that no more will you be a slave and pawn to the enemy. No more will you live under the weight and control of a demonic master, and no more will you allow anyone but Jesus to influence your heart again. I invite you to pray to Jesus right now and ask that He would remove every yoke of the oppressor and He would restore you and increase you from this day forward.

The Midnight Season Is Over

More than any other season, so many believers have been robbed in their night seasons. Where once they were dreaming and encountering God, they have been suddenly warring and fighting for peace. Many have been gripped by unexpected fear and anxiety, insomnia and torment.

Without a doubt, night seasons have been one of the most resisted and opposed places, because the enemy knows how powerful dreams are in this time. It is the new language people are learning as they are diving deeper into the oceans of God.

However, I have never seen more people being set free right now than those who have been robbed of their nights. They will be suddenly restored and hearing God in a fresh way. As I was writing this word I heard the Lord say, "Prophesy that the midnight season is over," and so I decree that over you today!

Your midnight season is over. Your season of living powerless, surrounded by the weight of the fight, is over. This month you will upgrade and rise above every noise and distraction into a newfound hope and expectation, and you will cross over into the new place God has for you, in Jesus' name!

A peculiar vision so distressed prophet Rick Joyner that he could not sleep.

"I saw some things going on in the White House," Joyner shares in a recent Facebook live video. "[I] trust those of you who perceive this as prophetic and take it that way are praying, interceding and doing whatever you can."

Joyner says he saw Chief-of-Staff Reince Priebus "leaking."

"He was caught by a trap that was set up to catch him, and he just fell right into it."

Prophetic Dream: The Key to Overcoming Sin is His Presence

Iwas lying down, just resting and suddenly I had vision or a dream or maybe drevision. I was walking along Israel’s main highway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv with someone whom I did not know. He told me that the newest lane, the outside lane—actually the shoulder—would soon fall into the ground because of sinkholes or erosion of the land. I was walking as far outside as one could get while still being on the shoulder. I felt a pull, like a magnetic force, pulling me off the road and into the brown grass.

Then I realized it was a vision.

Interpretation

The road is our life. The area off the road—dead grass—is sin, temptation, addiction, etc. If the road was going to fall into the ground on the side, why was I walking there? I should, at least, have moved to the other side of my companion, if not hugged the center of the highway.

The warning and encouragement is to not walk too close to the flame, lest you get burned. Or as Solomon rhetorically asked, “Can a man scoop fire into his lap without burning his clothes?” (Prov. 6:27) The words the Lord spoke to Cain come to mind:

“If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” (Gen. 4:7)

The key to ruling over sin is not merely resisting. Notice I said merely. Yes, resisting sin is part of it. James does tell us to resist the devil and he will flee. (James 4:7) (Ironically the same chapter and verse as the Genesis passage.) However, resisting is not enough.

In His Presence

If sin is represented by the area off the road, then the opposite of sin must be in the center of the road. Yeshua lives in the center. His presence is in the center. The key to overcoming sin or “ruling over” sin is spending time with Yeshua. There is no sin in His presence. There is life, love, forgiveness, joy unspeakable and a peace that passes all understanding. It is hard to give into temptation, much less sin, when we are in His presence.

I once remarked to a repentance preacher, “Holiness is not the absence of sin, but the presence of God.” The key to overcoming lust is not found in human effort, but in our desire for God. When we are hungry for God, we will not be hungry for sin.

How ‘Bout Them Apples

I remember when I started eating healthy. For snacks, instead of cake or a candy bar, I was told to eat an apple. I rarely ate fruit. I didn’t want an apple. But amazingly, after a few days of eating apples, I began to crave apples. In the same way, if you give yourself to seeking God, hungering after Him, you will find your appetite for sin decreases and your need for His presence increases.

Angels

And when we overcome sin, we can expect His presence. Many have taught about how Yeshua overcame temptation in Matthew 4—three times Yeshua fights off the enemy—but I have rarely heard anyone comment on what happened next. After He resists the enemy, something special takes place: “Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.” (Matt. 4:11)

When we overcome sin, we can expect angels to come and minister to us. You can be sure of this: God loves you and wants to help you in your struggle. It starts with strengthening that relationship with Him. Build up a hunger for healthy God and don’t give in to destructive sin. And though you can’t see them, angels are ministering to you.

We have to stop walking so close to the edge and get closer to Yeshua. When someone asks, “What is the least I can do and still get into heaven,” they are missing the point. That is like having 50-yardline seats at the Super Bowl, but hiding in the bathroom. Yes, you are there, but you are missing the best part. God is fun. God is joy. God is victory and life and love.

In the World, not Of the World

“But if I separate myself from the world to be with Yeshua, what good will I be?” Good question. Walking far from the edge doesn’t mean that we don’t have contact with sinners. Hello. Look at Yeshua. He walked so close to the Father—to the point that He said that He could only do what He sees His Father doing (Jn. 5:19)—and yet, He spent His time with prostitutes and tax collectors.

You can walk far from the edge and yet be right in the midst of those who need Yeshua. In fact, that is where we are to live. Just as Yeshua intimated—we are to be in the world, but not of the world.

“I have given them Your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” (John 17:14-16)
