Tony Dungy Defends On-Air Comments About Nick Foles' Christian Faith During Super Bowl - CBN News Steve Warren

Tony Dungy Defends On-Air Comments About Nick Foles' Christian Faith During Super Bowl
02-06-2018
CBN News Steve Warren
Former NFL coach and now NBC Sports commentator Tony Dungy is responding to criticism on social media about his analysis of the strength of Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Nick Foles' Christian faith in helping the Eagles defeat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.
A strong Christian himself, Dungy responded in a tweet Tuesday writing, "NBC pays me to express my opinion. And it was my opinion that Nick Foles would play well because his Christian faith would allow him to play with confidence.  And that he's a good QB. I think I was right on both counts."
To date, Dungy's tweet has been retweeted more than 7,000 times and has received more than 45,000 likes.
Dungy followed up with another tweet to a non-Christian responder a few hours later writing, "Why would you find it hard to believe that the Holy Spirit could speak to Nick Foles just as much as a coach could speak to him?  If he credited a coach for saying 'Stay calm and be confident' that's good.  But if he tells me Christ says that to him, I shouldn't report it???"
CBN Sports Reporter Shawn Brown has interviewed Dungy this season and in the past. He also interviewed Foles several times this season. Brown says Dungy is correct in his commentary and Foles was thinking about quitting the game at the beginning of the season.
"Tony Dungy is right and Nick would agree. Tony knows what it's like to have people doubt your ability," Brown told CBN News.  "After all, he was fired from Tampa Bay, replaced by Jon Gruden who won a Super Bowl with a team Dungy put together. You'd have to believe Dungy went to God with questions. He relied on his faith to get back in the saddle and lead the Colts to the Super Bowl," Brown said giving perspective on the matter from Dungy's own life.
"In the same fashion, Nick Foles was about to walk away from the game this offseason. He was traded by the Eagles to St.Louis Rams, who released him to Kansas City. After he wasn't signed there he had no job. He was about to throw in the towel," Brown explained. "Through prayer and putting faith in what He believes God had for him when the Eagles signed him as a "backup" he humbled himself believing that His opportunity would come. When his number was called, HE WAS READY," Brown went on to say.
"For those that don't understand how faith works, players rely on many things to keep their thoughts and perspective in check. For Foles, it was his faith," Brown noted. "I suppose it would be much more accepting to say Foles just put in extra work, but that simply wasn't the case. He relied on his faith to save him from himself. Which at the end of it all was the only thing that would have stopped him."
As CBN News has reported, Christian players expressing their faith isn't new in the NFL.  It's the revival that swept through the Eagles locker room during the season that people just can't stop talking about.
After the game, the head coach of the Eagles and some of their top players gave glory to God for the win on national television.

Prophetic Word for July Part 2: God's Priority is Our Calling by Doug Addison - Identity Network

Prophetic Word for July Part 2: God's Priority is Our Calling by Doug Addison

Identity Network

This is part two of a prophetic word I released earlier this month. I am getting more revelation right now than I am able to process. Things are heating up in Heaven for one of the greatest shows on Earth. I have been prophesying that a revival is coming, in fact God is saying it is starting soon!

The Outcasts Are God's Priority

Here is a portion of the prophetic word I released in January 2016:

"Last year on New Year's Eve, I had a very powerful encounter in which I literally heard the audible cries of people who have been wounded by uncaring Christians and leaders. Then I heard (this part was not audible) the Lord say, 'Their blood has reached my ears and I must respond.'"

In 2016, God's new agenda is about those who have been wounded by Christianity. These are the spiritual outcasts who do not fit into typical churches. Many have been pushed away, deeper into darkness, by the very ones who hold the keys to God's light and love."

Ezekiel 34 Mantles

Then on June 9, 2016, I had a radical encounter and was suddenly standing in the Courts of Heaven, a council meeting was taking place — similar to Zechariah 3. God spoke to me with a thundering voice, "Son, prophesy Ezekiel 34!" I knew the meaning of Ezekiel 34 as God had spoken it to me previously with a prophecy I released in February 2013 — Super Bowl: Prophetic Sign Seen by the World.

In the encounter, I was shown parts of Ezekiel 34 that are now God's agenda for those who have been wounded by mean shepherds and fat sheep. These wounded, weak sheep are people who need God's love — and have been driven away from churches. Ezekiel 34 goes on to say that the mean shepherds and fat sheep, who do not have God's heart of love, are allowing the enemy to ravish the weaker sheep.

I have been bringing a similar prophetic word for a number of years. One of the next revivals is going to be in the group of spiritual outcasts who have been rejected and considered unclean by many Christians. This may include women stepping up into leadership, political parties not accepted by many Christians, those with tattoos and piercings, the ones who are into zombies and vampires, New Age people, LGBT and minorities — to name a few.

We do not have to agree with the things these people might believe and support, but what God is calling us to is to love them unconditionally. I am not saying they are unclean, but they have been rejected and mistreated terribly by some Christians over the years. Many have been scattered and driven away from the opportunity to worship Jesus. As an evangelist and missionary to the outcasts for years, I have heard literal horror stories of the damage and rejection people have received in the name of Jesus.

Many Christians Have Driven People Away from God

"You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost. You have ruled them harshly and brutally. So they were scattered because there was no shepherd, and when they were scattered they became food for all the wild animals." Ezekiel 34:4–5 NIV

"'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says to them: See, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. Because you shove with flank and shoulder, butting all the weak sheep with your horns until you have driven them away, I will save my flock, and they will no longer be plundered. I will judge between one sheep and another." Ezekiel 34:20–22 NIV

God Is Looking for People to Show Love

God is the judge of each person's heart and motives. This is a time to step up and be a light in darkness. We really can love people who have been wounded by religion and by Christians who do not love as Jesus does. This wounding is an injustice in the eyes of God and He is preparing a movement to gather the wounded ones to a safe place.

"I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd. I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the LORD have spoken." Ezekiel 34:23–24 NIV

David is symbolic of someone who loves God and will be a warrior to protect and draw the outcasts to God — David's mighty men were outcasts (look in 1 Samuel 22:2). This is a time in which we need to have a heart like David for people who have been wounded and driven away from having a relationship with God.

Weak Sheep Defender Mantles

While I was in the Courts of Heaven prophesying this, I felt a mantle come on me and the heat of it has not lifted since. I heard the Lord say to deputize weak sheep defenders.

God's heart and agenda right now is to raise up people who are willing to go after those driven away, and to be defenders of the weak and menders of those who have been wounded. A strong ministry of reconciliation is coming on those who are willing to step up and receive it.

The Cost Involved

I have been prophesying this and doing outreaches for a number of years. One of the reasons I got very sick for three years — I got healed last May — is that I was being cursed by Christians for doing what Jesus would have done and reaching into the groups I mentioned above.

I encourage you to read Ezekiel 34 for yourself. I am not focusing on the judgment of the mean shepherds and the fat sheep because God is more interested in helping those hurting. We need to become Holy Spirit M*A*S*H units (Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals) to the weak and outcasts.

July 4th Celebration in Heaven

I had yet another major encounter at 4 a.m. on Monday, July 4th. I woke up to the sound of celebration in Heaven: REJOICE THE TIME HAS COME was repeating over and over. There was excitement and the sound of celebration. I heard shofars blasting and Heaven singing.

The Lord spoke to me that this is the start of a new revival to the spiritual outcasts who have been pushed away by unloving Christians. It is the start of a new revival that will come in waves. It is a good day to celebrate!

The first wave is purity and cleansing.

The second wave is power encounters and healing.

The third wave is the harvest of those who have been rejected by Christians.

Signs in the Super Bowl 2013

On Sunday February 3, 2013, my Daily Prophetic Word was, "A prophetic sign from God will be seen around the world." During the 3rd quarter of the Super Bowl game that year between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers, half of the lights went out for 34 minutes in the New Orleans Superdome. God spoke to me that this was a prophetic sign for Ezekiel 34.

Let's take a look at the significance of the numbers involved and Ezekiel 34:

When the lights went out, the score of the game was 28-6. Twenty-eight plus six equals 34.

The lights were out for a total of 34 minutes.

The power outage sign happened in the third quarter — 3/4.

The winning team's score was 34.

Ezekiel 34 ends with verse 31 — which was the exact Super Bowl ending score — 34:31.

Finally, the old generators at the Superdome causing half of the lights to go out is a prophetic sign that the old ways of doing things will not produce the full power we need right now to be a light to the world. Even the fact that the Super Bowl was in New Orleans and it involved teams like San Francisco and Baltimore — east and west coast — is significant.

God is going to move in places that we least expect. We are living in very exciting times. I want to encourage you to not get distracted by all of the things that are happening around us. The enemy does not want you to see the new things being released from Heaven right now.

Blessings.

Cloak of Deception - The Dream and Reality. Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Cloak of Deception
- The Dream and Reality

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“…the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.” (2 Thessalonians 2:9-11 NASU)

The dream kept repeating itself, even as I was waking up. Over and over again, the same thing was going through my head. It was a commercial being shown on TV. During the Super Bowl none the less, when millions were watching, unaware of what was really happening. Their homes were wide open to this cloak of deception.

What I remembered most from the dream was its ending. Pictured on the TV screen were two young boys, having a good time playing, unaware of this evil cloud coming over them. It was a gay, immoral spirit. They kept on playing, completely innocent of what was happening about them.

And then the most troubling aspect of this dream was that this demonic spirit came right through the TV, into the living rooms of the millions watching the commercial. Having found an “open door”, the evil spirit from hell was free to bring its presence into the family house. Those viewing that moment, thinking it was just another “super commercial”, were passively, totally unaware of what had just happened. Then I woke up.

This is one of the spiritual movements overtaking our nation. It is an evil one. And even as the story goes of the frog slowly being boiled alive, as the temperature rises in the cooking pot eventually to the point where he no longer is aware of his impending death, so the countries of the world are succumbing to deception. And then they will accept anything, and anyone, who comes along in disguise.

What is going on in America and elsewhere is just this. Sitting by and watching the level of innocence drop over the last decades, what used to be known as clearly being black and white sin is now accepted as the norm, the “way love should be expressed”, the “let it be let it be” accepted reality. We have been given over to a spirit of delusion – the very cloak of deception.

“Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:5-12 NKJV)

How many in the nations have opened themselves up to the spirits of deception, those lying spirits of the evil one, by slowly receiving into their souls, their spirits, their homes, the very lies that can destroy their spiritual lives? As the years have passed, they have succumbed to the enveloping evil cloud, by what they have allowed themselves to be exposed to, and given acceptance of. Evil has found its way through the cracked doors, displayed quietly in ever increasing and accepting measures on the movie screen and the TV shows, as the perversion in sex, drugs and gay lifestyle have been approved within the “enlightened” times we live in.

How are you stopping your kids, your grandkids, from being overtaken with the slow destruction of the enemy? Are you allowing yourself, and them, to sit idly by and let this cloak of deception cover your house and come into your home? Overtaking your life and theirs?

What will you do, and when, will you stop it?

If your life is not founded on biblical truths, on the solid rock that never changes, then you too are exposing yourself to this very thing. And when the time comes to stand against the onslaught of the enemy, you too will give in to its grip. It may be too late.

Prepare yourself now, and those you love, by knowing the Truth and standing strong on His Word. His name is Jesus. Only in Him will you be able to stand.

An Open Letter to Cam Newton - SHAWN A. AKERS CHARISMA NEWS

Cam Newton became a hit with the fans this season, but like many of us, he may need some maturing.

An Open Letter to Cam Newton

Cam Newton became a hit with the fans this season, but like many of us, he may need some maturing. (Cam Netwon Facebook page )
Note: This story is updated with new information and an apology. This is the grace I am talking about that we need to give.
Dear Cam:
During the 2015-2016 National Football League season, the whole world has become a witness to how you became a shining example of a man who thoroughly enjoys the job and talents that God has blessed him with. I believe the entire league owes you a debt of gratitude for how you made playing football look like fun instead of someone who is simply drawing a huge paycheck.
As the quarterback of the Carolina Panthers, you brought the joy of professional sports back to the city of Charlotte. Your antics—your dabs and Superman poses after you score touchdowns—may seem obnoxious and arrogant to some, but that could simply be jealousy. Your playful demeanor won over a lot of fans, including myself.
As a former resident of the city and admirer of the team—notice I didn't say fan—I thank you for what you've done to bring enthusiasm back to the Carolina Panthers. I have many friends back in Charlotte, and they're having fun with it, too.
We've watched as the Panthers had an outstanding season, winning 15 of 16 regular-season games. You cruised through the playoffs to the Super Bowl, and you were named the NFL's Most Valuable Player. You deserve every bit of the accolades you have received.
Unfortunately, when you and your teammates lost to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, your image took a huge hit. It's not because you lost or because of your performance during the game. It was your demeanor in the post-game press conference that disappointed and shocked many.
You sulked. For the most part, you gave one-sentence answers to reporters' questions. Frankly, you acted like a 10-year-old child who had just had their cellphone taken away—not that a 10-year-old should have a cellphone.
You didn't own up to the six times you were sacked. You didn't own up to the two fumbles that led to 14 Denver points. You ended the press conference with the phrase, "I'm done, man."
Not cool, Cam, not cool.
I can't say that I've ever been a fan of yours. As an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, there's a natural tendency to dislike you because of your affiliation with Auburn University. You made us look bad during your senior year, and you won a national championship in 2010, which makes Tide fans' stomachs turn. But then that's just football.
I actually want to apologize to you for maligning you as a person. The controversy and scandal that surrounded you blinded my eyes so much so that I announced I wouldn't root for the Panthers any more when they drafted you. It was not my place to judge you, and I'm sorry I did. I did not give you the grace that Jesus would have. That showed my own character flaw. Again, I apologize.
As it turns out, I find my spirit actually grieving for you. I never thought I would ever say that. But as a man of God, I find myself now praying for you. Since I wrote this, a reader informed me that you indeed profess Christ, and that's wonderful. I apologize if I made any assumptions about that. Now it's all a matter of maturity in your walk with Him. Sunday's post-game antics only showed a sign of immaturity in you. You were hurt and disappointed because, for the first time in life on a big stage, things didn't turn out the way you had hoped.
Cam, many people are going to call you out for your behavior on Sunday, and chances are, you don't care right now. Deion Sanders, himself a man of God, did just that on national television by saying, "You are the face of our brand right now, you can't do that. I understand the emotions of losing, but you can't do that. A Manning, a Brady ... all these guys who are a prototypical type of quarterback in our game, they're not going to do that ever. Would Drew Brees ever?"
What Sanders should have done was pulled you aside and talked to you about it in private. Or, he should have reacted like Marshall Faulk, who himself knows the pain of losing a Super Bowl. Faulk said, "I've been on that podium in that very same seat. It's tough, it's hard," said Faulk, whose Rams fell to the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVI. "When I look back at how I handled it, I promised to never be that person again. Cam is going to learn from this.
Cam, remember this: Through it all, God loves you and wants you to draw near to Him so you can better handle the adversity in your life. This isn't the first time it's happened, and it won't be the last. But allow Jesus to come into your heart so that you can learn to deal with your trials and tribulations. He's inviting you to do just that.
I suggest you talk with teammate Charles Tillman, whom I interviewed on my Javelin podcast recently. He's a great man of God who can help you.
I know you're disappointed about not winning the Super Bow, but that will pass. With your talent, you will be back there with another opportunity.
And as I always like to say, "there is that."
