"A Day of Destruction and Desolation" ✡ Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah)

A day of destruction and desolation, a day of blackness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness.

Yom HaShoah

Today marks Holocaust Remembrance Day, which in Hebrew is called “Yom HaShoah” and comes from our verse in Zephaniah describing the devastating destruction of Jerusalem. Yom HaShoah was established by the Knesset and coincides with the anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising, remembering not only the destruction of European Jewry, but recalling the heroic revolt. On this day, let us memorialize the six million who perished by strengthening our commitment to God, and intensifying our Torah learning.

Holocaust Remembrance Day - Joel Rosenberg

On Holocaust Remembrance Day, here are four true heroes to remember. Who will be the heroes of our time, standing against evil & genocide?

by joelcrosenberg
AuschwitzEscape-adThose who forget the past are doomed to repeat it, said Santayana. Let us never forget.
Yom HaShoah -- Holocaust Remembrance Day -- begins tonight.
Let us take time to remember the six million Jews that were murdered by the Nazis, including 1.5 million children. Let us honor their memories, and pledge ourselves never to forget them. Let us devote ourselves to making sure such evil is never allowed to happen again. This is not just a time for Jews to remember. This is a day for the whole world to remember and commit themselves to standing against evil and against genocide in our time, especially in the face of the Iranian nuclear threat and the murderous rampage upon which ISIS is engaged.
This evening, Lynn and I have been invited to attend the Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony at Yad Vashem, Israel’s renowned Holocaust memorial and research center. I attended last year for the first time, and I am deeply honored to be able to return and bring my wife. I hope to Tweet updates, and post more on this blog so you can track what is happening and consider its significance. We will also attend additional events and ceremonies with Holocaust survivors, Israeli leaders, and various Jewish and Christian leaders. As with last year, I am very much looking forward to this, especially because several of the scholars here were enormously helpful as I was researching The Auschwitz Escape.
My hope and prayer this year is that in addition to remembering those who died in the “Shoah” — the Holocaust — we will also remember the four extraordinary heroes who escaped from Auschwitz 71 years ago this spring to tell the world the truth about what the Nazis were doing, the very men whose remarkable courage and selflessness inspired The Auschwitz Escape. They are:
  • Rudolf Vrba
  • Alfred Wetzler
  • Arnost Rosin
  • Czeslaw Mordowicz
It is the story of these four men that inspired me to write The Auschwitz Escape. Last year, FoxNews.com published a column I wrote sketching out their dramatic saga. I hope you’ll take a moment to read the whole column, and then share it with others. Thanks so much. May more such heroes rise up in our generation.
REMEMBERING FOUR HEROES OF THE HOLOCAUST: They pulled off the greatest escape in human history – from a Nazi death camp – to tell the world the truth about Hitler, but no few know their names. [To read the full column, click here.]

Canadian PM vows to fight anti-Semitism

Canadian PM vows to fight anti-Semitism

SAM SOKOL, Jerusalem Post

On Yom Hashoah eve, Harper describes Holocaust atrocities as betrayal of human dignity which must never be forgotten; Quarter envoy Tony Blair tells 'Post' anti-Semitism in Europe must be exposed in order to combat it.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued a statement marking Holocaust Remembrance Day on Sunday, and vowed to fight all forms of intolerance, discrimination and anti-Semitism.

"On Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), Canadians stand together to remember the countless innocent people, including nearly six million Jewish men, women and children who suffered and died at the hands of the Nazis during the Holocaust," Harper said.

"As we mark the liberation of the first Nazi concentration camp in Buchenwald, Germany, let us also pay tribute to all those brave souls who fought with the Jewish resistance during this dark period, and let us renew our own commitment to continue their fight against all forms of intolerance, discrimination and anti-Semitism," he continued.

Harper described the atrocities of the Holocaust as a betrayal of "the fundamental value of human dignity" which must never be forgotten or repeated.

Israel's official state ceremony marked the start of Remembrance day on Sunday evening.

Speaking to The Jerusalem Post at Yad Vashem prior to the ceremony, former British prime minister and Quartet Middle East envoy Tony Blair said "We’ve got to be incredibly vigilant” in dealing with European anti-Semitism.

Blair stressed that when an incident occurs, “it should be given proper publicity.”

Asked how to handle the recent uptick in anti-Semitic attacks in Europe, Blair replied that “when it happens we’ve got to expose it and what happens, unfortunately too often,” when such incidents do not receive proper publicity.

“I know the British government takes it very seriously and we should be putting a lot of pressure on this because you should not tolerate what is intolerable,” Blair said.

March of Remembrance worldwide - APRIL 7, 2013

March of Remembrance: APRIL 7, 2013

in cities everywhere.

March of Remembrance is a Christian prayer walk held on Yom HaShoah (Day of Holocaust Remembrance) as a memorial and to give a public platform for Shoah survivors to tell their stories.

We are closely related to the March of Life movement which has gone across Germany twice, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, & Poland with more national campaigns being planned.
