Former 'American Idol' Contestant Reveals Dark Secret in New Film

KRISTIN COLE/A. LARRY ROSS  CHARISMA NEWS
Jason Castro, who gained fame after placing fourth on season seven of American Idol, opens up publicly for the first time about a deep, dark secret that nearly destroyed his marriage in a new White Chair series film released today on iamsecond.com.
This is Castro's second film with I Am Second, having been one of the first individuals featured on the website when it launched in December 2008. In this new film, Castro speaks transparently about his addiction with pornography and the wreckage it created in his life.
"Having a secret just eats at you like so much. You feel like a liar the whole time," said Castro.
While taping American Idol kept him busy, a sense of loneliness set in after, and Castro ran toward porn to fill the void. What began as a small, every-now-and-then practice quickly grew into a daily dependency.
"By the time I was on tour, I was looking at stuff every day, multiple times a day," Castro said. "This addiction was really bothering me. It was bringing me down. It was keeping me depressed. I wasn't sleeping at night. I would stay up all night out of shame and then go back to my thing. The addictive cycle ... I couldn't stop."
Though Castro had a serious girlfriend at the time, his addiction manifested itself beyond the computer screen into real life when he slept with someone else on tour. "I found myself doing something I'd never come close to with my girlfriend, my future wife. We had barely kissed and here I had slept with somebody I barely knew," he said.
Castro hid the secret from his then-fiancé for four months before he finally confessed. The couple called off their engagement, but four months later reconciled. They married Jan. 2, 2010.
His wife told him if he ever looked at porn again, they would divorce, but Castro eventually discovered the pull of his vice was too powerful.
"I would wake up every morning and my heart would start racing, and I would want to go look at porn. Look at porn and then go start the day. Then be the happy, good husband," Castro said.
For reasons unbeknown to his wife, the couple began to grow apart. Eight months into marriage, they were invited to a 12-step support group at church.
Hearing the raw stories of others' struggles filled Castro with an overwhelming sense of hope that he wasn't alone. After a couple of months of attending, he finally confessed in front of the group and his wife about his addiction. But it wasn't until one night when Castro finally disclosed everything to his wife and revealed his true self, that he found healing.
"That is when everything started to change, because I started feeling freer," Castro said. "I always believed in God but didn't really trust Him with everything. I thought this thing was too dirty, too dark to share with anybody, but once I trusted Him, we started the road of living a godly life, living in community and being known. It feels good to be known."
Castro eventually removed every outlet and potential hazard that might aid his temptation. Through accountability with friends and openness with his wife, he has found freedom from his addiction. Today, he and his wife have two children.
"This struggle might never go away. It's part of my flesh, but I've been able to overcome it really," said Castro. "This is the real miracle. That I'm able to have a family right now, married to my wife and a better relationship than either of us ever imagined."

When the Church Ignores Immorality - DR. F. DEAN HACKETT SPIRITLED WOMAN CHARISMA MAGAZINE

When the Church Ignores Immorality

Why would anyone actually choose to accept deception over truth?
It makes no sense, or does it?
A person's morality will always determine their theology. When people make the choice to follow Christ casually and to loosen their moral standards, they must adjust their theology accordingly.
We are living in such a time. Many professors, pastors and church leaders are teaching and publishing that the infallible Holy Bible "contains God's Words." According to them, many of the facts are inaccurate and many of the principles are cultural ethics of ancient times and cultures.
The creation story is replaced with theistic evolution, opening the way for the devaluing of human life.
Mankind is not a special creation made in the image of a loving heavenly Creator but the product of spontaneous generation.
The principles of divine design, purpose and destiny are removed, and every person has the right of self-determination.
This opens the gateway for women to discard unexpected fetal tissue to protect their future and career from unwanted encumbrance. A woman has the right to determine what happens within her own body. Couples may enjoy "hooking up" and living together without the demands of outmoded marriage ceremonies. A man might be born with the desires and passions of a woman and seek relations with another man. A woman may have desires for another woman. Sexual orientation is no longer a divinely prescribed moral standard.
Should any of this be questioned, sociology, psychology and junk science will ensure enough disinformation is reported to verify these new truths. Pastors and teachers who do not accept the infallibility of the Holy Bible are subject to such distortion and will give way to the "new truth" and avoid the labels of intolerant, homophobic and bigoted.
These "new truths" will not bring about a "Great Society" but create a "Brave New World" filled with greater hatred, bigotry and a moral landslide.
These "new truths," and their accompanying freedoms, become addictions and bring new forms of sickness, creating a broken society that mankind cannot cure. The social epidemic quickly becomes pandemic and will become a moral tsunami of proportions not seen since the Roman Empire. All of this is made possible by a church that has turned their ear from hearing the true Word of God and built upon sand.
The church is becoming a social club embracing political correctness and historical rewrite.
Authentic worship is being replaced with performance and very professional music.
Entertainment is being delivered instead of powerful spiritual awakening.
As the church adopts this "new truth," they also adopt the medical model for dealing with moral issues. "Disease" replaces the old teaching of sin; this to prevent further emotional damage from being inflicted upon the broken.
Twelve-step programs replace "a broken and contrite spirit."
Years of counseling and psychotherapy take the place of repentance and cleansing of the heart through the blood of Jesus. Universal grace replaces redemption and salvation through new birth.
The great danger of deception is one does not know when they are deceived unless someone loves them enough to show them the truth. That is the great responsibility placed upon the church. Jude challenged the apostolic church. "Beloved, while I diligently tried to write to you of the salvation we have in common, I found it necessary to write and appeal to you to contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints. For there are some men who secretly crept in, who were marked long ago for this condemnation. They are ungodly men, who pervert the grace of our God into immorality and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ" (Jude 3-4).
May God move the heart of spiritual leaders to seek Him earnestly; commit their hearts to love and honor the infallible inerrant Word of God; then boldly teach, preach and publish the uncompromised Holy Word with anointing that will convict and purity the hearts of men and women.

Pornography can rip a marriage right in two. It's threatening an increasing number of Christian marriages, according to those who counsel couples in the church.
Trena Mewborn—director of counseling at Lakeland's First Baptist Church at the Mall—sees it in about half the couples who come to her. But she told CBN News shame has kept it a largely hidden crisis in the church.
"That was the feeling: that nobody else in my church struggles; Christians don't look at pornography. Christians don't struggle with sexual sin," she said.
Greg Dyer got hooked on porn at 15.
"I can still picture the first images that I saw," he said. "That was always a part of my life, pornography was."
From Addiction to Affair
After years of hiding drug, alcohol and porn addictions, he left his wife, Cathy, when he went from the porn to a full-fledged affair. She was totally blindsided.
"I hadn't seen any of it. He was very good at hiding it," Cathy recalled. "And so I think one of the reasons probably it came out is he was just tired of hiding it."
But Greg repented after a frightening Holy Spirit encounter.
"You know that little voice in your head that you know you should listen to?" Greg asked. "It just said, 'What are you doing? I've protected you through the drugs, through all the alcohol, through all the unprotected sex that you've had, I've protected you. If this is how you're going to live, I'm done. I'm not going to protect you through that anymore.'"
Kevin Conrad—leader of the support groups at Lakeland's First Baptist Church at the Mall—now helps men like Greg fight their way free. But was once himself a porn addict, though he had good Christian parents and was saved at age 9.
"That still does not shield one from the temptations of the world," he explained. "I was never deceived about the right or wrong about that, yet I continued to do it."
Rearranging Life Around Pornography
His lust for the X-rated material went into overdrive when it hit the Internet.
"I began to rearrange my schedule in order to view pornography," he admitted.
And when it was revealed, his addiction deeply hurt his wife.
"She has subsequently struggled in our relationship with the security of the love and attention and devotion and affection that I owed to her as her husband," Conrad said. "So that's been the real tragedy in our marriage."

Matt Russell was hooked from age 18 on, and almost lost his marriage over the pornography before he finally wised up and repented.

"Something Different or It's the End of Us"
"I feel it was the third or fourth time I got asked to leave the house," he said with a laugh. "And I don't mean to make light of that, but it was like one of those watershed moments with us."
"I was very angry," Matt's wife, Danielle, said of the times she discovered he was still using porn. "Very angry, very hurt. Probably more hurt."
Matt remembered thinking, "There has to be something different or it's the end of us. I mean, there's only so much, even as two believers, that she can take."

They started going to Trena Mewborn and Kevin Conrad's church in Lakeland, Florida, where Pastor Jay Dennis makes fighting pornography and sex addiction a very public top priority.

Danielle was so relieved to hear other men and wives talk about the crisis porn had caused in their homes.
"I Really Had Felt Alone"
"How much it meant to me to hear that I wasn't the only female that was going through this," Danielle exclaimed. "Because I really had felt alone in most of my marriage."

Counselor Mewborn oversees Lakeland's First Baptist Church at the Mall's support groups and highly recommends such groups to those struggling to break free and stay free of pornography.
"And there's a lot more power in a team," she said, "even if it's just a team of two or three than it is when you feel like you're the Lone Ranger."

Matt Russell agreed, saying, "To think that you can go at it alone is foolishness."
Greg Dyer added, "You have to have help. God has to help. I couldn't have done it by myself. There's no way."
Can't Win by Yourself
Mewborn has counseled hundreds of addicts. She stated, "I personally don't know anyone who has successfully battled a really bad addiction by themselves."

"It's isolation that Satan wants you to employ because he can pick you off," Matt said.

Pastor Jay Dennis, author of Our Hardcore Battle Plan, believes the enemy has fooled people into thinking they can have both a good Christian walk and a hidden sexual life.
Dennis told CBN News, "Satan has convinced many men and I've heard them say, 'Guys will be guys.'"
Well, Conrad has seen these lusts steal people's careers, spouses and children.

"But most importantly and most tragically is their relationship and their ability to fellowship with Christ," he said.
You Don't Have to Give In
Dennis said in reply to that, "Jesus Christ came and lived a perfect life, faced every temptation that we face, went to the cross, died for our sin and He rose from the dead so that we wouldn't have to be the way we are, that we could change, that we wouldn't have to give in to our sinful natures."

After Cathy and Greg Dyer put their marriage back together, Cathy co-wrote with Pastor Dennis Our Hardcore Battle Plan for Women, a book to help those married to porn addicts and users.
She totally supports Lakeland's First Baptist Church at the Mall's open battle against the X-rated material, saying, "The more we as a church start putting it out there, I think the more people will feel like they can go to someone, they can ask for help, they can seek out some friends for accountability."

A grateful Danielle said of her husband, Matt, "We're in a place where it's safe for him to talk about it. If he says 'I'm struggling with this,' he's not going to be shunned. He has people he can call and say 'this is a struggle I'm having right now' and they will rally around him."

Pastor Dennis had hopeful words, saying, "I can tell you from having dealt with many men who have broken free, that the joy returns, the peace returns; they're not worried about getting caught. They're not worried; the guilt is gone, the shame is gone."

But the Florida pastor warns the truth of the matter is the porn lifestyle and the God lifestyle cannot be held in balance. Eventually one is going to shove the other out of the way.

Lack of Genuine Church Prophets Birthed Trump Phenomenon - MARK H. CREECH CHARISMA NEWS

Christians are perhaps drawn to Donald Trump because of the lack of genuine church prophets speaking bluntly in congregations.

Christians are perhaps drawn to Donald Trump because of the lack of genuine church prophets speaking bluntly in congregations. (Reuters)

Lack of Genuine Church Prophets Birthed Trump Phenomenon

Innumerable it seems are the issues facing the nation. Abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, self defense and ownership of guns, marriage, parental rights, pornography, gambling, alcohol use and abuse, drugs, the environment, crime, corruption in government, government assistance, national defense, foreign policy, freedom of speech, religious liberty, etc., etc., etc.
What seems glaringly scarce are genuine prophets. The prophets of old were God's spokesman for their day. They interpreted the times according to the revelation of God.
There is a sense in which every pastor must play the role of the prophet. Yet today such preaching would be enough to put goose bumps on the back of the pews of most churches.
W. Phillip Keller has eloquently written:
"In so many places the pastors and teachers are well-nigh silent about social ills. They make no strong stand against those elements that are destroying their people. They carry no deep conviction about the corruption all about them. They will not risk a confrontation with the forces of evil. Their silence gives tacit approval to the wrong influences and human philosophies which are tearing us to pieces.
"The leaders are fearful lest they be blamed eccentrics, puritans, or prophets of doom. They much prefer to be popular."
Some evangelical leaders seem mystified by presidential candidate Donald Trump, and his lead in the polls among evangelical voters. Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association has accurately stated that there is really "little to be liked in the Donald's worldview and personal history."
I would agree, but perhaps it's that a vast host of evangelicals are drawn to something Trump does that they rarely hear in the pulpits of their own churches. He speaks with passion, boldness, and authority. Americans, including evangelical Christians, are tired of leaders who have little or no moxie.
I suggest the nation has been deprived of prophets — prophets like those described in the Scriptures — men who had great capacity for emotion — men who were capable of deep feelings. Men who had fire in their bellies and their words could breathe fire in righteous indignation. At other times there utterances would be mingled with tears.
The late G. Earl Guinn, who was once the Chairman of the Department of Preaching at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, put it this way: "The true man of God can weep at suffering, he can get downright mad at sin, and he can rejoice at moral progress."
Richard Baxter wrote: "I preach as though I were never sure to preach again, and as a dying man to dying men."
Too much preaching today fails to be based solidly in the moral authority of God's Word and delivered out of deep conviction. Instead, it is made up of nice little warm fuzzy remarks sprinkled with a few anecdotes meant to make us feel good about ourselves, when the very wrath of God abides on us. The results of such preaching are devastating on more levels than we can know.
It is not hyperbole to say that our culture is quickly headed for destruction. The hope for our restoration lies in remedies of the heart, where our problems really exist. The sickness killing us is our willful rejection of God and his order.
But to quote again from G. Earl Guinn: "Apparently instead of hearing prophets of God sounding a trumpet call to obedience and faith, they have heard inoffensive little men tooting piccolos and then running to the door [of the church] to grin like Cheshire cats at those whose compliments are demanded by their itching ears."
Indeed. Where are the prophets?
Jesus was the ultimate prophet. He wasn't concerned about being palatable or appealing. His message was distinct and divergent from a corrupt society. His zeal for the Father's way so consumed Him that at times it must have seemed as though He was trying to prevent the possibility of followers.
He made tall demands, calling for hardship and cross-bearing. He warned that anyone who would be His disciple would experience alienation from friends and even family members.
He spoke against entrenched evil and misguided powers; powers that precipitated injustice, powers that, humanly speaking, He could only offend to his own disadvantage and never possibly overcome.
He demonstrated by both His life and words that the Creator God is Holy and demands the same of those made in His image. Moreover, in the end, He was willing to lay down everything to redeem the ones who failed to understand Him and were hostile to His ministry.
Where are the prophets like Jesus?
During the War of 1812, the fate of our nation depended on Andrew Jackson's trusted messenger, Holdfast Gaines, an Indian scout.
Gaines was encamped with the American army on Mobile Bay when word came to Jackson that a large British force had set sail for New Orleans. The one chance was for the General to swiftly get word to General "Dandy" Carroll in Nashville, so he could rally the long rifle frontiersman of Tennessee and Kentucky to rendezvous with him in New Orleans.
But how was this to be done with 600 miles of wilderness between them?
General Jackson's prospects of stopping the British lie with one man — Gaines. So he gave his trusted messenger the assignment and said, "I'll give you ten days to get there! May the Lord of hosts bless your legs!"
At sunset, as General Carroll sat dining, Holdfast Gaines stumbled through the doorway, making the 600 mile trek in six days and five nights!
General Carroll rallied the long riflemen and met up with General Jackson in New Orleans. The British were defeated. New Orleans was saved because the messenger laid everything on the line to deliver his message.
The fate of our nation hangs in the balance again. It's not an enemy from without that threatens this time, but the enemy from within our sinful souls. Our hope, in large degree, is dependent on whether we have prophets of God willing to pay any price to deliver his message.

BOLDNESS - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

BOLDNESS

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“While they were still praying, the place where they were gathered was shaken. They were all filled with the Ruach HaKodesh, and they spoke God’s message with boldness.” (Acts: 4:31 Complete Jewish Bible)

Living these days in the USA would make you think that Christians have no say in what goes on in our country. If you listened to certain government “authorities”, daily newscasters, or the life-time educators in our public school system, you would think that believers no longer have any rights, that we are to “keep our opinions to yourself, in our church boxes on Sundays, and not say anything to anyone”, or we are stepping out of line. Oh really?

You know what will keep you from being bold? Believing the lie that as believers we are just to “love our neighbor”, keep to ourselves, and let whatever happens in our nation happen. After all, we don’t want to step on another person’s toes, or be looked upon as trouble makers, now do we?

Again, “Oh really?”

Where do you see that in your Bible?

Here is what my Bible says.

“So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said to them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way of punishing them, because of the people, since they all glorified God for what had been done. For the man was over forty years old on whom this miracle of healing had been performed.

And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: "Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, who by the mouth of Your servant David have said:

'Why did the nations rage, and the people plot vain things? The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ.'

"For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done. Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus."

And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:18-31 NKJV)

That is what my Bible says. And yours too. Read it.

It brings me great courage, and boldness myself, to hear men and women of God stand up, speak the truth, and let it be known that our country, founded on the eternal godly principles that is was - those of Judeo-Christian – will not just lay down and let the lies of the ungodly tell us what is to be.

It gave me great courage when our church opened its doors during this election year to hold a forum, having one seeking the office of the President of the United States to come and speak his mind. If we would have listened to the lies of “politically correct” people, we would have just had a one hour “sing and hold hands” meeting.

Enough already.

Believers, those of us empowered by the Living God of Israel, are to get up, stand up, and proclaim the full Gospel that the Lord Jesus Christ commissioned us to do. That begins with the salvation message, but then we are to continue on in forth telling the whole truth.

And here is another part of His whole truth.

1.      Killing the unborn, God’s creation, is murder.
2.      “Marrying” the same sex is wrong.
3.      Fornication, pornography and adultery is not to be practiced and accepted in our society.
4.      Saying Bible-believing Americans have to keep “separated” from government involvement is not the truth.
5.      Letting Israel stand alone is going against God’s plan.
6.      Sitting back and watching Christians be slaughtered by Islamic killers is not acceptable.
7.      Letting America go to hell is not in the heart of our Lord.

The Living God of Israel, Whom has dramatically demonstrated His eternal love and goodness in bringing the Jews back to their Promised Land, is embolding His people in the other nations to stand up, let our voices be heard, and share the full Gospel of salvation and redemption.

We are the ones being called upon to do that which we have been apprehended to do.

I love it how the Scriptures proclaim this truth.

“But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ  and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:7-14, NKJV)

Now is the time. Now is the day. While it is still light, let us be about doing all that we have been apprehended for and given to do. The darkness is rapidly coming our way. In many cases it is smothering many already.

In His strength, wisdom and power, let’s get doing what He has commanded us to do.

So think on this, in the love of Jesus,

"We're In This Harvest Together!" - Cindy McGill, Salt Lake City, UT - THE ELIJAH LIST

The Challenge is Real
With this new year, like every year prior, our aim is to be a pro-active force in the world we live in. The challenge is real. There are many arenas that we target to bring the "Good News" into, and each year the need to see lives made whole gets more demanding. People are being swept up in today's society and cultural demands.
The sex-trade and adult industry is growing like a tidal wave, taking captive our young people and those so easily persuaded to invest in this industry. It's one of the most destructive arenas in society today. The statistics are staggering. Porn sites are visited more often than Google, MSN and Yahoo combined. Images of porn are now common on snow boards, video games, children toys, TV shows and just about everywhere you look in advertising and marketing (statistics found at www.fightthenewdrug.com).
At independent film festivals, porn films are quickly becoming more and more selected as there are no ratings on these films to allow every age to attend the viewing. As a result, young people are becoming more and more desensitized to pornographic images which move them further away from healthy relationships.
Recently, a strip club in Vegas had a huge sign out front offering jobs to graduating seniors from high school to strip to earn money for college. (Photo via Cindy McGill)
Last year, our team asked the girls involved in this industry three questions:
1. Question: How did you get interested or involved in this type of work?
Answer: Most were "shopped" off of the internet after posting innocent modeling pictures of themselves to ads looking for models. They were approached by porn scouts within 24 hours of the original posting. Others had friends already in the industry and were convinced it was a way to make money for college or to support themselves.
2. Question: If were independently wealthy, what other career would you be focused on?
Answer: Most would do humanitarian efforts to meet needs of people in third world countries.
3. Question: What is your 3-5 year goal?
Answer: Not many even had one. The ones who did were choosing school or furthering their education somehow. Some were looking at the medical field, some into law, but mostly, their future forecast wasn't given much thought.
God's Love Never Fails
Knowing that it's the kindness of God that leads people to change and engage Him, it's our determined effort to be present in the places that need to know He is kind, forgiving, loving and non-condemning. Psalm 139:7-8 states that there is no place we can go from His presence. Even if a bed is made in Hell, He is there. His love doesn't have measurements. It has no beginning or end and cannot be stopped by the torrent of many waters.
If His love is so unstoppable, so relentless and so passionate about reaching those Jesus died for, we cannot lose in outreach efforts.
As moms, we offer the girls affirmation and value, looking at their hearts where God looks, and most of them break down crying in our arms, asking for "one more hug".
Please Consider Giving to This Cause
This is our 6th year bringing dream interpretation teams and outreach teams into porn conventions all over the country. Thirty team members will partner with Patricia King and XP ministries in reaching into this harvest field to offer love and support and answers to girls looking to make choices into wholeness.(Photo via Wikimedia)
We could use your help and support. We have a booth at these events, registration, lodging, transportation, decoration and gifts to give out at our booth for the week long outreach. This outreach is not an easy one emotionally, spiritually and physically, but we are determined to see these young girls meet their true destiny path.
