Kent Simpson: The Heart and the Prophetic - What Is Your Heart Saying?

Kent Simpson:
The Elijah List

Kent SimpsonDid you know the word "heart" is mentioned in the Bible over 800 times? Have you ever stopped to think how this word is used, when it is clearly not referring to the physical heart?

Almost every time "heart" is used, the author is not referring to the muscle that beats in our chest and pumps blood throughout the body. The word is being used as a means of communicating to us something more spiritual than physical.

Even today, thousands of years later, we speak of the heart often, but it's not always in the context of the life-giving organ. For example, before a woman makes her mind up to stand at the altar and say her "I dos," she wants to know what is in the man's heart. She wants to know what is behind his exterior, what his true feelings are about her, his strengths, weaknesses, temperament, loyalty...and the list goes on. It is safe to say that the word "heart" can be defined as more than a physical organ; it is something much deeper.

Some years ago a close friend of mine, who is a minister, made a statement that set me on course to seek out the author's meaning when using the word "heart" while speaking of being born again. My friend was grumbling about what he heard people saying in regard to being born again; he didn't like that they would claim they gave their heart to Jesus.

But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:8-10

My quest was to seek and find out from the Holy Spirit, the Author of the Holy Scriptures, what the word "heart" meant when used in this context. Little did I know that the answer would open a window to my soul that continues to this day to reveal many other secrets that have been sealed within the Bible. The more you see how the Bible flows from Genesis to Revelation, the more you will begin to build a systematic theology that works.
...knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21

When you see the word "heart" in your Bible, you need to fully understand what the Author, the Holy Spirit, is revealing to you. The explanation the Holy Spirit gave me regarding the word "heart" is this: When used in this context, it signifies the soul and spirit have come into agreement, unifying a spiritual force that has come from Heaven to earth.

Our soul is our mind, will, and emotion – our personality, if you will. The spirit is the life force that we draw from when we are in need of revelation or help that is hidden within us. When the word "heart" is used in the verse mentioned above, it is revealing that the man was given a new heart or a new spirit and also a new way of thinking.

In this verse, Jesus is saying this person's soul and spirit are united as one when his spirit is quickened by the Holy Spirit, and the renewing process begins. This tells us more has changed than just the man's personality or his words.

However, renewing the mind (soul) takes time; therefore, each of us must continue to study, to show ourselves approved, so that we may continue to be more like Jesus, our Lord and Savior. It is our newborn spirit which we draw from that makes our minds (souls) as students of the Holy Spirit, for He is our Teacher and will reveal all that we need to know.

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. 1 John 2:27

The Heart and the Prophetic

When we want to know the deeper things about a person, we must have the ability to see into their soul and spirit (i.e. their heart). When counseling prophetically or giving a prophetic word from the Holy Spirit, we are, in effect, making contact with their heart (soul and spirit).

The Soul: It is from the soul we gain recorded information that activates the word of knowledge, a gift from the Holy Spirit that reveals what has happened or is presently happening in the lives of those to whom we are prophetically speaking. One of the main purposes for this is to make them aware that God knows who they are and what is going on within their lives. This makes it much easier for people to believe when they receive their prophetic word. Knowing what the minister said about their past through the word of knowledge was correct, they should believe the things prophesied regarding their future are correct as well and will come to pass.

The Spirit: When you are ministering in the gift of prophecy, you will find yourself making a connection with that person's spirit. It may help if you can envision this: Let's say your spirit is talking with the person's spirit to whom you are ministering, and you are receiving information about that person's future.

Once you have the revelatory information about the person, you must begin to put into words what the Holy Spirit has revealed to you in a way that might make some sense to him or her. This is where training in the prophetic really helps. We are not training ministers so much on how to hear the Holy Spirit but rather teaching them how to know His ways and His thoughts.

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. John 16:13

When you are ministering in the prophetic gifts, you do not always know whether it is the word of knowledge you are receiving, i.e. something that has already happened in the person's life, or if you are giving a word of prophecy, i.e. a message about what is to come. The person receiving the prophetic word can easily think that the minister is missing the mark when a word of prophecy is spoken, because it has not happened or does not fit what they are presently doing in life.

It takes time to truly know if a prophecy is a true word from God. Some prophecies do not come to pass, because the word is conditional, meaning the receiver of the prophecy was required to do something before the promise in the word will come to pass.

A word of knowledge, however, can be judged on the spot. There is evidence that is easily found just by asking the person to whom the word was imparted if the things spoken have happened in his or her life. Sometimes it takes more courage to speak a word of knowledge than a word of prophecy, for the proof of your accuracy is weighed quickly, whereas prophecy takes time to establish a solid track record.

Therefore, when you're seeking the Holy Spirit for spiritual gifts, ask for all the prophetic gifts, so that when you are called upon to deliver a prophetic word, you can look into the whole heart of the person: soul and spirit.

The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the inner depths of his heart. Proverbs 20:27

Jo Ellen Stevens: A Resurgence Of The Baptism Of Holy Spirit - The Elijah List

Jo Ellen Stevens:
The Elijah List

Jo Ellen StevensThe Lord has been speaking to me that there is about to be a resurgence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit in this season!

He said that people are going to rise up and desire the power that they see in the early Church but that they no longer see in their denominational churches. And He said that they will have a desire for this because they are seeing that on their own they cannot be set free of the depth of darkness that their generation has taken them into.

I see this stirring in people again like never before! They are seeing their need of the power of God again in their lives.

I am also hearing that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are once again going to become something that people desire and not look at as some backwoods thing that their parents and grandparents did that caused them embarrassment in the past, but they are going to remember the things that happened when Grandma prayed in tongues and God moved on her behalf! God is going to bring these things to their remembrance in this hour, and a new, deep desire for the deep things of God is about to begin stirring in their souls until they will have nothing less than all that God has for them!

The Lord has looked on these young souls and seen the poverty of their spirits and souls, and His heart is hurting to come near them so that He can heal them.

So, He is beginning to place a desire in their hearts to come after that which they saw in their parents and grandparents that caused them to long to be clean. It caused them to know peace and to know that there was something in this world that was holy. So, He is putting the desire in their hearts again for the Holy Spirit! Be ready to bring them into this!

Glory Filled The Temple by Robert BartowI am beginning to realize that many who have been raised up in church in the last 20 years have missed out on something that many of us had the privilege of receiving!

In order to become acceptable to society, we began to first have "seeker-friendly" services. Then, finally, "seeker-friendly" churches. We did not want to offend anyone or leave them out. So we stopped talking about the precious Holy Spirit!

We stopped allowing Him to move among the Believers, and instead have replaced Him moving with entertainment and all kinds of programs, and it has become more like a social club than a place where we allow God to move in His power.

A while back I had a dream of being in a local church, and my mother, who in the past was always used in the gift of tongues and sometimes interpretation, was about to stand up and speak in tongues. Suddenly a woman who actually looked Pentecostal came up behind her and whispered in her ear and said, "We no longer do that here." This whisper stopped my mother in her tracks!

The woman in the dream was a woman that was a well-known Pentecostal preacher in our area. I realized that most of the Pentecostal denominations around here were as dead as some of the denominational churches had become! They no longer encouraged their people to pray in the Spirit. And they no longer encouraged their people to move out in their gifts, but had allowed it to slip away because they wanted to become accepted in the world.

ElijahList Prophetic Resources

God is once again wanting to have free reign in His Church! He is wanting to move among His people, and He is coming because of a cry of a people who long to see the Holy Spirit come into His Church again and do the miracles of the early Church!

He is coming, I tell you, in answer to the hunger of a generation who are desperate for the raw power of God! They are desperate enough to look foolish to the world! They are desperate enough to not care what anyone thinks or says. They just know that they have a deep, spiritual need, and only the power of the Holy Spirit can deliver them!

The young people today have been raised up knowing all about the spirit realm, even from childhood movies that taught them how to do witchcraft and all manner of incantations. You cannot turn on television without either seeing witchcraft or sexual perversion being broadcast. They have learned about the power of the dark side, but not knowing the power of God; so much so that when they see the power of God they become afraid of it and think that witchcraft is okay!

Salt And Light by Jennifer PageWe who know of this power need to rise up in this hour and begin to teach and preach again about the precious Holy Spirit! We should begin to have altar calls for the baptism of the Holy Spirit once again in our churches.

We need to tell them how He will change their life and how He gives them overcoming power. We need to begin to allow "our people" to move in their gifts. In order to have power in the Lord we have to be willing to look foolish to the world. He is waiting on a people who will not care what anyone thinks as long as we have Him!

What if we begin to allow the worship to go on until it comes up before God and He comes and consumes us!? What if? What if we were to preach on the Holy Spirit until people desired to have Him more than the doughnuts in the back of the church?

What if? What if we allowed people to move in their gifts and they would get a taste of what God can do when they are allowed to obey? What if?
Keeper Of The Flame by Linda Harris-Iorio
I am telling you that we are beginning to see that all of our best efforts do not satisfy our souls, and an awakening is happening in the Church! There is a call to those of us that have known who Holy Spirit is in our life to begin to equip those with what we have learned and seen and know of Him!

As Wade Urban always says, "This Kingdom life is all about life in Holy Spirit." It was why Jesus had to go away! He said because if He did not go away the Comforter would not come. The Word also says that had the princes of this world known what would happen that they would have never crucified the Lord of glory (see 1 Corinthians 2:8).

They didn't know that He wanted to multiply Himself in His followers and that now the same power that Jesus had operated in would be present in those who were simple enough to receive it! Ha! They just didn't know!

John 16:7 (AMP) "However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].

The Year of the Horses by Pam Clark

The Year of the Horses by Pam Clark

Infinity Network

The word "year" there can really mean "a season," but what a glorious season it will be!

The Lord gave me a message this morning that He is kindling the fire of the prophets. Prophets are strange creatures anyway because while they are like everyone else, they are also not like everyone else in that another force is active in their lives, an unseen force, and it is one they have to deal with and it gives them an extra "sense" as some call it.

Not all know what to do with this, but it has to be trained to come under the leading of the Spirit. Otherwise they are just "weird" people. What affects prophets is that God is wanting to deal with not just them but others and they have to learn the right way to go about it.

Some get very ego centric - wanting it to be all about them or to revolve all around them - but servants will be glad for the breaks they get that allow them to regroup and refresh so they can go at it and work once again with more clarity. There is a cycle, like a wave. These waves can come at different times as God develops His ministry people, but coming soon is a "common wave" where as a group, the prophets are stirred up together.

Activating the Spiritual Gifts

From this "wave" will be a voice/Voice that will send forth a strong message and people will have to deal with it. Those who want to resist God will resist Him still, but those who want to go forward in Him will work to hear this for themselves in a way that will benefit the common cause of Christianity which is knowing Him more. This revelation will activate the Spiritual gifts and people will go forward in those, and God will be pleased, and then later offer "course corrections" as needed.

The extra "sense" is an extra sensitivity, not always wanted, but once assimilated properly is seen as a gift. Just because someone can paint well or sculpt well or do some other skill well, makes them remarkable, but not different than other people. They are still human but have something that they can offer other people.

And it can be packaged in different ways and be a blessing to other people, but the true gifts point to Jesus Christ. For those who are hungry in heart, the truth will not be denied them, no matter what their circumstances are. For all, some must strive harder than others for certain things but other things will come easy. God is just and fair.

When the Spirit of God moves across the land (the people), there will be a response and a stirring. Some will want to make it "about them," but those who are truly "in Him" will know their servant hearts. They will learn to be wise, yet gifted.

The "giftedness" is really the anointing. And there is an anointing to make all things work and function. But there are times that God will call an alert, or a focus, of something He wants to say.

In the Ark of the Covenant, there was wood overlaid with gold. This is symbolic of how the anointing works. There is a covering that makes it glorious. If you strip it of its glory, it is just wood.

Prophets and Prophetic

We learn how to handle the things of God, and when we do, the fear of the Lord can come into the land or return to it. A prophet is an intercessor between God and man, sometimes pleading to the people for God, and sometimes pleading to God for the people! That is why it is said that not all intercessors are prophets, but all prophets are intercessors.

What I am going to say next will bother some people, but I know its truth. Some people are prophetic, but are not prophets. Those who are prophetic will like the prophetic, will have a sense for it and even understand a lot of it. They will love to serve it and bless it and they will be blessed by it. But an office called prophet has an assignment - and it's not something they always wish they had as it is often challenging and difficult, but it has a purpose in the Kingdom. And they are just servants, not to be idolized or worshipped. So there is a challenge because of that.

Some people who are prophets are not necessarily in with the "in crowd." They live a life of their own because of what is working on them, yet they will be given enough freedom in the spirit to still be human as who they are. We really can take this to all the gift ministries, but God will do the unusual at times through His prophets.

Mostly because He wants to get peoples' attention. But they can't start taking over for God. I harp on this because it's so important to learn. Prophets are not God's "side buddies." They are His friends, but do not have a special ranking over other ministries or people. But "friends" is a pretty great place to be, and you can be one of His, no matter your calling.

You can go from servant to friend, but you must start humble, like a servant. That is a teachable spirit, and one who can deny self to please another. But when God sees a kindred spirit, He will lift them up. But then the process starts all over again in the new realm.

A Move of God is Coming On

But back to what the Lord was showing me, He is kindling a fire, and when the prophets get stirred up together, a move of God is coming on! God showed me a vision of a baby prophet this morning (it was a dream). She was a young girl and she was discerning something that others didn't see. When you are a kid like that, you think everyone sees the same things you do. She was kind of shy, but that is often the kind that God kindles a fire or a force in. Because when they do speak, it comes across as different or unusual and it will get people's attention.

Sometimes they get rebuked. That's no fun, it's spiritual warfare. The "other side" does not like it. But they are learning in God. He has to teach us how to respond. I think many prophets go through that.

But the bells on the horses say "Holiness to the Lord!" You can discern that!  They are ringing out a message.

It's sometimes easier to stay alone close to God, but you also have to get along with people. You have to be challenged for character development.

I don't know everything on this, but I do know that office gifts hold function. They are like the priests in the Temple, they do service. Someone can be more active in Spiritual life and not hold an office but be closer in with the Lord. The offices can perform duties - like performing marriages or administering rites. It's part of the government of Heaven, just like we have a government on earth. Not all government is operating well, but it's still the government. It's there for our good.

But some are impostors. God confirms His Word with signs and wonders following. But you have to know the Word. It is the Word that the Holy Spirit will bring to mind to show you about a matter.

The Spirit will Endorse His Word

I had a dream, but I do not hold that dream above the Word of God. People can have great dreams but we are not subject to dreams - that we have or that others have about us. They are helps, and tools, and God will give revelation through them but it all must balance with His Word. The Spirit will endorse His Word.

That is teaching mode I went into there, but I am hearing the thundering hoof beats of horses! A mighty army is coming, it is the Army of the Lord! Peace, Shalom. When you are where you are supposed to be, you will be okay. If you resist, it will pass you by. If you rebel, you will be lost. If you are indifferent, you will be ignored.

But if you ride, you will go with the Lord! We had the year of the camels; I am prophesying the year of the horses! That means we run with the Lord. Remember what God said to Jeremiah?

Jeremiah 12:5 "If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, in which you trusted, they wearied you, Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?"

The horsemen (and women) are coming! It means strong prophetic declarations are coming. Group declarations. It will change things. The true word will be endorsed by the Lord.

Because of the apostasy, the backslidings, many may not understand what you say because they have not been taught.  Always be patient because once they learn, they may want to ride with you!  God is calling forth a people and a nation, and they will ride and reign with Him!

Teams – It Takes Two or More - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Teams – It Takes Two or More
Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“In the Antioch congregation were prophets and teachers — Bar-Nabba, Shim‘on (known as “the Black”), Lucius (from Cyrene), Menachem (who had been brought up with Herod the governor) and Sha’ul. One time when they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Ruach HaKodesh said to them, “Set aside for me Bar-Nabba and Sha’ul for the work to which I have called them.” After fasting and praying, they placed their hands on them and sent them off. So these two, after they had been sent out by the Ruach HaKodesh, went down to Seleucia and from there sailed to Cyprus.” Acts 13:1-4 CJB

Movies get our attention as much or more than any other image we may see. They can convey a message and impart a vision like no other media.

I like movies. I like to sit in the theatre, watching the big screen, being captivated by the action and emotion for that hour and a half, and then think about it later, reliving some of that which I experienced.

Movies have impact on people. That is why so many of us go to them, or watch on TV and on our iPads if we have one. They get us “out of here” and take us to a place we may not have been before, or will never get to go to in this life.

Sports can have that same emotional and lasting impact in our situations. We have our favorite players and teams, whom we give ourselves to, sometimes with our whole hearts. Growing up for me it was the Minnesota Twins Major League Baseball team that I cheered on. For my good wife Laurie, well, it was the Chicago Cubs. (I will just leave it at that and continue to write on.)

When you combine a good human life story with a sports theme, you really can have an impact on people, producing an inspiring movie. I will always remember the heart moving film Rudy, about the Notre Dame Fighting Irish college football player, getting his one moment to have his lifetime dream fulfilled. Both my Dad and I, and later my two sons, could relate to much of what Daniel Eugene "Rudy" Ruettiger grew up with, and desired.

Ruettiger's story was told in that 1993 film, which starred actor Sean Astin in the title role as Rudy. The film was written by Angelo Pizzo, directed by David Anspaugh and produced by Rob Fried, both of whom were involved in Hoosiers. Ruettiger appeared in a cameo as a fan behind Rudy's father and brother during the final scene. Dad and I later met Rudy a few years before Dad died of lymphoma cancer in July, 2000. It had been a real desire of his to do so.

Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger – 1975 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Most sports we cheer on are of teams, where two or more players, whether men or women, combine their skills, work together after much practice time, and compete against another team for the joy of winning and the winning prize. They can achieve something that those going at it alone will not. They accomplish victory together. If they have tried doing it by themselves, it would not have been possible to get it done. Two or more contending for the same goal indeed are better than one. Teammates get it done.

In these last days, as He did in the first century, I believe the Lord is forming teams to accomplish His end time purposes. He is not wanting one man or one woman going at it alone, knowing they will fall and fail. We have been created to live and work together as a team, on a team. Something more, something greater happens when we do so, rather than going at it alone.

Rudy could not have had that moment of glory out there on the football field battling against the opposing group of 11 players by himself. Because his teammates were there and did their individual parts, he was able to fulfill his dream, resulting in that dramatic action that made a good movie, and touched lives for so many more years.

I want to impact this world with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. I want to give myself to accomplishing the dreams He has placed in my heart, as part of His eternal plan and purpose in the nations. I know you do too.

The Lord is putting together His teams to get the job done. He is connecting bone to bone, joints and ligaments, which will provide the means and support to move, to go, whereby we will get the job done. As my wife and I connect with a team, our gifts given to us to serve others with will be joined with those having their gifts, which together as a team will change lives forever in the nations.

May your heart’s purpose be to connect, to find those you are to team with, and as one fulfill the calling you and those you walk with will have in His wide Kingdom realm. Be a team player.

Birthing & Raising - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Birthing & Raising
- Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Who do you think Paul is, anyway? Or Apollos, for that matter? Servants, both of us — servants who waited on you as you gradually learned to entrust your lives to our mutual Master. We each carried out our servant assignment. I planted the seed, Apollos watered the plants, but God made you grow.” 1 Cor. 3:5,6 THE MESSAGE

When we celebrated our 4th year ministry anniversary of Love For His People on April 10, 2014, I was asked the question, “Do people really know what you do? They know you love Israel and bless the Jews worldwide, but how will they know to support your efforts if they don’t realize what that is? Maybe if you supported an orphanage in a foreign country, or evangelized, that would help?”

Hmmm. I later gave it some further thought and prayer, asking the Lord how to best communicate the vision and purpose given to this work He has given us to do, and others who come along side. It is true that if people do not understand the mission of an organization, they won’t support it.

In giving more understanding as to how the Body of Christ operates, each of us has a purpose, a specific calling that we have been apprehended by Him to fulfill. If we each do our part, His Church, the Body of Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) will function as we are meant to do.

As the Scripture written above says, some have been called and gifted to plant the seeds, while others will water the plants that have then sprouted up. Each is to accomplish the task they have been assigned, as all the time God is making His Body grow.

Do all evangelize, in order to bring others through the birth canal into the Kingdom? In a sense, yes, just by the fact that we who are saved have His Holy Spirit working in and through us - we may see a new birth as we lead others to Christ (Messiah). But as their main part, I think not.

Do all have the calling of teaching, once that new born has come forth and now needs daily care and instruction? Not necessarily so. Though indeed, some will have been placed in that position to carefully nurture and provide for the young ones, while others have been gifted to bring encouragement and training, using a different gift of the Holy Spirit that has been given to them.

Let me explain then what this ministry has been established to do.

As for the work of Love For His People, one of the main ministry’s objectives is to share the heart of the Lord God of Israel for His chosen people, the Jews, with others. With our leadership, and having others share in this purpose, we have been called to teach the Gentiles in the nations that the apple of His eye, the Jews, have been given the Promised Land, all of which surrounds Jerusalem and beyond. It is their rightful inheritance. We must stand with them as they come back to the Land, Israel.

Our purpose also includes giving people the opportunity to join alongside us in supporting these in the Land with humanitarian financial aid, as the time it takes for them to get established takes needed assistance.

In addition, with our social media postings, we regularly provide further understanding of the eternal truths written in the Scriptures (Old and New Testaments). Our firm stand on His Word gives resistance against those lies cast on the earth, while at the same time advancing His Kingdom’s realm in the nations with His truth.

Our annual trips to Israel, Ahava Adventures, gives opportunity for those who come along with us, whether they are from our generation of the 50+, or the generation of our kids, days to spend with friends in Israel. Relationships established through these times together will continue to grow in importance as we move forward.

Books written by myself further share the vision of Love For His People, while at the same time have given encouragement to the readers in their own faith walk. Sharing my Ahava Love Letters and Now Think On This messages have brought faith, hope and love to people in many countries.

We ask you to consider joining with us in this work, through your financial gifts. We also ask you to support our work through the purchase of my books, which also gives provision for this work to advance further.

Thank you for your consideration, as we together bless those who have given the nations so much - especially our Jewish born Savior Jesus Christ, and for the work they have done through the centuries recording His eternal written Word, the Bible, for us to know Him.

Please consider sending a contribution today.

Ahava and shalom,
