Overcoming Weariness - Steve Martin, Love For His People Ministry

Overcoming Weariness

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14, NASB

We all experience weariness. In our body. In our soul. In our spirit. There just are days when it is hard to press on, to keep the chin up, to not quit in the midst of battle. It just is that way.

Jesus Himself experienced weariness. He understood it, becoming man Himself, and did what was necessary to keep His face looking forward, to press on. He knew He needed proper rest, and took time away from the others to spend with His Father, to be re-energized and uplifted.

Paul grew weary many times as he walked out his calling. He described in several writings how he battled against the naysayers, the ungodly, the ones who even among the brethren questioned his legitimacy after he turned from being a Christian hater to becoming a Christ-follower.

Standing for truth in an ever-increasing godless society certainly wears you out. Paul instructed his disciple Timothy to be watchful of this as he wrote to him, “Be on guard against him yourself, for he vigorously opposed our teaching.” 2 Timothy 4:115, NASB Upholding the truth takes courage, knowledge, and boldness if we are to be overcomers for the truth.

Paul let us know that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, as it is spiritual warfare that we face daily. There are times when the cost of pushing forward, as many in sports and military arenas so often do, takes strength and continual output of effort in order to get the victory.

I recall as we prepared for the high school football season, we had to endure three practices a day in the hot August heat, to get our bodies and minds ready for the upcoming games. Though others certainly experience far more in their weeks and months of preparation, it helped bring to me the understanding that you won’t be able to put up a good fight if you do not prepare in advance.

Be it preparation of the mind, soul, or spirit, we must do what it takes to be ready for the action that is promised to come and it many cases already here. No one goes to battle without properly being made ready. No success will ever come without it.

As believers in the Lord Jesus, and ones called to be the warriors resisting the enemy and his attempts to take away all that the Lord has given us, we will need to fight even against weariness and all that seeks to bring us down.

We must be faithful in practicing the disciplines of the Christian faith. Prayer. Bible reading. Fellowship with other believers. Teaching is received for training, encouragement, and renewed hope for what we believe in. All necessary to sustain the long journey.

The days indeed are getting darker, but our Bible confirms that we are the victors as we stand with our King in His rule and government.

Be encouraged. Do not grow weary in the fight. Be renewed as the hope within us brings strength to endure to the very end.

Keep on Keeping On

“’He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.” Daniel 7:25, NASU

The Word of God speaks to us from times past to show us what was then, is now, and what is to come. Even as the enemy of our soul continually seeks to stand against those who side with the Living God of Israel, we are most aware of his motives and schemes. The enemy of our very being will always seek to tear down the saints, the believers; those who are called and commissioned to join the battle and stand on the ramparts. We are aware of his tactics and stand strong against him, together.

When I returned from my ahava (love) adventure to Israel on Nov. 12, 2022, I was a bit weary. No, in fact, I was just plain worn out. Having given all that I had to make full use of the three weeks I had been given for the days there, my body, soul, and spirit needed some rest.

But with relatives coming in a few days; my good friend still in the hospital going on six weeks (the one who was to have joined me on this trip for his first one to Israel) there just seemed to be no time to rest, and then another close prophetic friend was moving out of state and needed some help; a concert trip to bless my son on his birthday was the same week…

All important, but at times the saying, “No rest for the weary,” holds true. Yeshua and the disciples knew the feeling, but they kept on keeping on. The days are short, and the night comes when no man can work. So we must keep on going.

“The apostles then rendezvoused with Jesus and reported on all that they had done and taught. Jesus said, “Come off by yourselves; let’s take a break and get a little rest.” For there was constant coming and going. They didn’t even have time to eat. So they got in the boat and went off to a remote place by themselves. Someone saw them going and the word got around. From the surrounding towns people went out on foot, running, and got there ahead of them. When Jesus arrived, he saw this huge crowd. At the sight of them, his heart broke — like sheep with no shepherd they were. He went right to work teaching them.” Mark 6:30-34, THE MESSAGE

“I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” John 9:4-5, NKJV

Many times I have silently prayed the prayer, “My times are in Your hands, and when I am weak then You are strong.” It has kept me going at times when I would rather sleep in bed.

We are living in those hours when it is fast approaching when no man will be able to work. So, we must be about our Father’s business when the day is light, and not give in to weariness and discouragement.

Governments will keep trying to shut down our travel (the “planned-demic” had been in place for years beforehand, based on truth accounts) and stifle our means of earthly support; leaders will say they have our back when it is only theirs that they care about.

How is it that so many “broke” men and women get into positions of power and then leave being millionaires after decades, or even just 8 years?

These are times when we must rely on the Lord’s strength, His grace, His power, and provision, to complete the works He has set before us to do. Only by Him working through us will we be able to complete the glorious tasks we have been given to do while here. The Lord did not let Moses in the promised Land due to the mishandling of his commission. We must press on in complete obedience so we can complete ours.

“At that same time, I begged God: “God, my Master, you let me in on the beginnings, you let me see your greatness, you let me see your might — what god in Heaven or Earth can do anything like what you’ve done! Please, let me in also on the endings, let me cross the river and see the good land over the Jordan, the lush hills, the Lebanon mountains.” Deuteronomy 3”23-25, THE MESSAGE

Fulfilling the mission set before us will only get done if we keep our eyes on Jesus, call on His Name in the midst of battle and war, and keep our faith and trust fully in His ability to finish His eternal plans and purposes, using us in those plans and purposes. We too set our hearts like flint, as He Himself did.

“For the Lord God helps Me, therefore, I am not disgraced; therefore, I have set My face like flint, and I know that I will not be ashamed. He who vindicates Me is near; who will contend with Me? Let us stand up to each other; who has a case against Me? Let him draw near to Me. Behold, the Lord God helps Me; who is he who condemns Me? Behold, they will all wear out like a garment; the moth will eat them. Who is among you that fears the Lord, that obeys the voice of His servant, that walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.” Isaiah 50:7-10, NASU

Carry on and do that which you too are to do. Get some rest as you can along the way.

Ahava and shalom, Steve Martin, Love For His People Founder

Message #165 in this series – in the year of our Lord 11.20.2022 – “Keep On Keeping On”  Sunday, 6:30 am in Charlotte, North Carolina

I did a bit of walking while in Israel this month. That may have added to the weariness, but it was still a joy to have walked in the Land where our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, walked all over! Come with me on this “Walk With Me” to go to the place where the Elvis American Cafe’ is, so I could add another annual mug to my collection. (I believe it makes it about 8 now.)

Walk in the Land where the King did. (And where Elvis may have longed to also.) Look here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSvUg0T1rpA

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO by Steve Martin (published Nov. 14, 2022)

On Nov. 11, 2022, as I awaited the shuttle to the Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel, I asked the Lord what the title of my 36th book should be. “Why We Do What We Do – We Live For the Lord” came the response from the Holy Spirit. So, I named it that.

The morning after I got home on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, I opened the November/December 2022 issue of Charisma Magazine which my good wife Laurie had been reading on the kitchen table. I skimmed through the pages and noticed an article by Rod Parsley entitled, “Seek the Father’s Face, Hear His Voice”. I had known of Rod and his ministry, but not a regular listener.

On page 57 of his article, the written paragraph header was, “His Voice in My Ear”. In the 4th paragraph, he wrote of the Lord asking Him this question, “Why do you do what you do?” Confirmation! Thus, I had heard the Lord also.

This book contains the five months of messages I shared with subscribers to my weekly email, and then posted on our website www.loveforhispeople.com and other social media platforms. For each of us to accomplish the Lord’s will, plans, and purposes for our individual lives we must know what we are to do and do it. We will then understand the “why we do what we do” question, as we walk out His ways.

Be inspired and encouraged as you read, either as a daily discipline or as a book with examples as to how to walk the Christian faith in your own life. And as you know the “why”, your courage, boldness, and firmer commitment to live for Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, will be evident to many. You may not even have to say a word.

I have also included the six messages I wrote from Jerusalem, between Oct. 24-Nov. 11, 2022 when I was there on my 26th journey to the Land. Since 2010 I have called these journeys “Ahava Adventures”. “Ahava” is love in Hebrew.

Christy Johnston: "A Season of Replenishment and Repositioning"

Jul 16, 2017
Steve ShultzFrom the desk of Steve Shultz:
I think we ALL need replenishment and refreshing along our journey...if you are in need of that RIGHT NOW, you have got to read this awesome word and vision from Christy Johnston of Australia.
In this word Christy shares a vision about weary and wounded warriors:
I saw these warriors were not only restored and refreshed but RE-ENERGIZED with GREATER RESOLVE to fulfill the call of God upon their lives – they had a fire in their eyes unlike any I have seen before. The enemy's attempts to scream his lies and threats to them fell on deaf ears as their once weary bodies and spirits were REVIVED with the TRUTH. I watched as they marched back onto the path God had prepared for them and I saw MANY following behind them.
Whatever challenges you may be facing...let God strengthen and replenish you right in the middle of your path! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

A Whisper About a Juniper Tree
A number of weeks ago, I woke up after literally hearing the Holy Spirit whispering to me all night long in my sleep. It was bizarre because although it is quite normal for me to dream almost nightly, this was no dream. I can only describe it as though the Holy Spirit was right up in my ear with His soothing voice and whispering into my spirit just two words repetitively as I slept. He simply whispered, "Juniper Tree."
I woke up somewhat perplexed and immediately wrote it down and then did not think much else of it, until I was sitting with my daughters later that morning watching one of their favorite shows with them. One of the characters on this children's "horse" show suddenly mentioned out of nowhere how he had made for himself a saddle, out of...you guessed it...A JUNIPER TREE! I almost fell off the couch and said out loud, "Okay Holy Spirit, You have my attention!"
The last few weeks have been a treasure hunt of sorts and I believe Holy Spirit's message relating to this tree is a word to the Body of Christ – particularly to those who have been "battle weary" and exhausted.
"I am Replenishing Your Strength"
"I saw these warriors were not only restored and refreshed but RE-ENERGIZED with GREATER RESOLVE to fulfill the call of God upon their lives – they had a fire in their eyes unlike any I have seen before."
Immediately, I was drawn to the story of Elijah, where the showdown with the false prophets of Baal had just taken place (See 1 Kings 19). In a time where Elijah should have been celebrating the victory God delivered through him, he was instead weary and susceptible to the lies and threats of the enemy. Rather than finding solace in the Father, whom moments ago He was entirely dependent upon, he suddenly found himself running from an empty and powerless threat. He wandered into the wilderness and found refuge under a Juniper tree and asked God to take his life.
Here, I saw a vision of many of God's children that have found themselves in recent weeks in this same position. I saw a picture of sons and daughters alike who were covered in dirt, blood and scars. They had seen many ongoing days of warfare and were contending for victory. Some were on the other side of their victory while others were still in the thick of the battle, but both looked utterly fatigued.
The fight had brought them to a place of weariness and exhaustion and they were dragging their feet, barely able to stand up as they wandered around aimlessly. Like Elijah, I saw that they felt as though they could not fight anymore and just wanted to give up entirely.
I felt the Father's compassion and love for these soldiers – His beloved ones. I then saw that these weary warriors were susceptible to the lies and empty threats of the enemy. I could hear the enemy as he began taunting and his lies rung out through the atmosphere and it sounded powerful and daunting.
I was drawn closer to the enemy himself and I saw he was holding a megaphone. His feeble voice sounded intimidating and it was causing these warriors to run and hide from his threats. In actuality, his words were bluff and they carried NO weight or credibility – it was merely projected in a tone that appeared loud and frightening but he had no power to do anything. I then saw these warriors scattering and running to evade the apparent danger. (Photo via Wikimedia Commons)
"Find Rest Under My Covering"
As they ran, the fear of the enemy's empty intimidation had misguided them into a wilderness and they were crying out to God, "Where are You? Have You forgotten me?" They were beyond depleted, both physically and spiritually. Again, I felt the Father's compassion for them. They were searching for cover and shade, susceptible to mirages and lies and they were feeling as though God had abandoned them. When suddenly, I saw Juniper trees begin to sprout up alongside streams of gushing water that came forth in the MIDDLE of the desert.
The Father had NOT forgotten them nor had He abandoned them. He made a way for them in the MIDDLE of their exhaustion and weariness. Knowing they could not take another step, He provided REST, COVERING and REPLENISHMENT to them in the middle of the desert heat and hid them under the umbrella of His protection.
ElijahList Prophetic Resources
Juniper trees are a fascinating prophetic image. They are known to grow in deserts alongside streams of water and they are used as a shelter and a covering from scorching conditions. They are a part of the evergreen family – which means their leaves are always green, no matter the season, and they can grow in harsh environments. Ironically, the Juniper is shaped like an umbrella.
Just recently, a beautiful friend gave me Juniper Essential Oil and in researching about it, I found that it carries many healing properties – essentially it helps to protect wounds from infection and it helps to improve blood circulation, which aids in removing toxins from the body.
"In a time where Elijah should have been celebrating the victory God delivered through him, he was instead weary and susceptible to the lies and threats of the enemy."
I believe the Juniper is a picture of the Father's wings, covering and protecting His beloved ones, providing rest, replenishment and healing. He removes toxins and prevents our wounds from becoming "infected" when we hide under His shadow.
As this vision continued, I heard the Father say to His warriors hiding under His shelter, "Beloved, arise and EAT!" I then saw them pick up a loaf of bread that had the word TRUTH engraved onto it. It had been laid before them and they literally devoured it. They were eating of His Word in their weariness and I watched as the countenance upon their faces was REPLENISHED and miraculously strengthened.
A Time of Repositioning
When Elijah too, ate the food prepared for him a second time, this food then strengthened him to go on a journey for forty days to the mountain of God. It was at this very mountain that God came to him in a still small voice and repositioned him on the path he needed to go.
I then saw in the vision a picture of these warriors also being REPOSITIONED. Where they had lost the strength to fight, God was not only RESTORING the strength that was lost in the previous battle, He was equipping them with SUPERNATURAL STRENGTH by guiding them back into the heart of His presence.
It was in this place of surrender and quiet stillness that the Father REPOSITIONED their hearts with a RESOLVE of a new purpose for their heavenly assignments. I saw that NO ground had been lost and that this season of refreshing was needed to RE-EQUIP them with tools and supernatural strength to raise up others like them to bring the manifest Kingdom of God to the earth (see 1 Kings 19:19).
(Photo via Pixabay)
The trail behind them was blazing with FIRE as their heavenly assignment became a light in the darkness, calling others back to where they belonged and equipping them to also fulfill the call of God on their lives. The strength that was restored to them under the Juniper tree became the very strength they rode upon as a saddle. These trailblazing warriors burned with FRESH purpose and unquenchable fire in their eyes.
Everlasting Strength in Place of Weariness
I prophesy and declare over those who have been battle weary:
Your season of replenishment is upon you. Just as the Juniper is an evergreen, I see that your STRENGTH will supernaturally EVER-LAST. It will be an ongoing strength in every season as a testimony for others of the Lord's goodness over your life. The Father is restoring and repositioning you for greater days ahead. Arise and eat, warrior! Your days of exhaustion and weariness are behind you.
"You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of the thornbush will grow the Juniper, and instead of briers the Myrtle will grow. This will be for the Lord's renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever." (Isaiah 55:12-13)

No More Restraints? - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

No More Restraints?
- Now Think On This
by Steve Martin

“And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.” 2 Thess. 2:6-8 NASU

The walls are falling down. Many of the restraints we formerly could count on, which have been holding back the onslaught of the evil one as they had been in place over the centuries, are no longer there.

Almost anything is allowed now, as people and governments are using all excuses to serve their own purposes. Often it is heard, “We must be sensitive to others”, or “stop pushing your own agenda or beliefs on us.” It would seem that all situations are ok, as there is no longer any fear of paying a price for sin, no matter how large or small. After all, some would think, no longer is there a need for accountability to anyone or anything having rules, regulations or set guidelines. We are “free to let it all go and do our own thing.”

According to many, there are no longer any restraints that would or should guide us anymore. The concept of sin went out the door decades ago. With a common misconception that one can be called a Christian by just saying you are one, the thought of a God who would judge people is labeled as old school. Why therefore need we adhere to the Ten Commandments or any Scripture? We took those down off the court room walls decades ago, after all.

There used to be a time when at least you could hear, even in mainline churches, good, solid teaching on standards, as they held the ground on what was permissible and what wasn’t. Now, due to the fear of political correctness or attacks from the other side, speaking Bible truth has been so watered down that young kids have no idea what really is right or wrong. The standards have been so lowered that what we once upheld and stood strong on have now been tossed aside, replaced by ungodly standards and immoral judgments. Deception abounds.

Even certain nationally observed days, with foundations from evil origins themselves, have become some of the most celebrated in our countries. Indeed, the ever increasing temperature rise in the frog’s captive water has gone up so high, whereby the “frog” is now being boiled alive, not even realizing the impending result. But death will actually result.

Parents raising kids are confronted daily with sound waves of how all the others are doing it, how it will be alright to give in a little, and why not to be so tough on allowing your kids to explore and try new ways. Weariness takes its toll on those attempting to hold the line, while struggling to stop the onslaught from coming into the home daily from every which way.

So what do we do? Give up and give in? Tell ourselves that the world is going to hell anyway, so just let it happen?

In speaking to those of us who are of the current parental generation, we are called upon by our Lord to stand, even as others around us would give in. We are the ones who must be the lighthouse to those who have lost their way. We must be the “Bible” to those who have never been instructed in the Way, or shown the Truth, or heard of the Life in Jesus Christ.

“Refuse to follow the devil. Stand strong in your faith. You know that your brothers and sisters all over the world are having the same sufferings that you have. 1 Peter 5:9

“So, brothers and sisters, stand strong and continue to believe the teachings we gave you when we were there and by letter.” 2 Thess. 2:15

I know I grow weary at times, with the frequent temptations, the short term victories of the ungodly, and the continuing battle to keep my mind on the Lord and His ways. But I know for the sake of my family, my grandkids, and others who are watching and listening, I, along with you, must hold the line. We must stand for truth, righteousness and accountability.

Be encouraged in the Lord’s strength. Spend the time daily to be uplifted by His Word, His answers to prayers, and His light that does shine in the darkness. Our promised reward awaits us in the end.

Now think on this,

Steve Martin
