The American Attack on Christians Reaches an All-Time Low - Michael Brown

The American Attack on Christians Reaches an All-Time Low

In the Line of Fire, by Michael Brown
The recent events surrounding the court case against a Christian-owned bakery in Oregon are so surreal that they almost defy imagination.
The case itself has been well publicized.
In 2013, the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, Aaron and Melissa Klein, politely declined to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple, as a result of which they were taken to court and charged with discrimination based on sexual orientation.
On Friday, Oregon's Bureau of Labor recommended that the Kleins be fined a total of $135,000 to compensate "for the emotional suffering they [the lesbian couple] experienced."
Seriously?
Because a Christian couple cannot, in good conscience, bake a wedding cake for a homosexual couple, they are fined $135,000?
Let that sink in: $135,000 for not baking a cake.
What if Orthodox Jewish wedding photographers declined a job because it was on the Sabbath?
What if Muslim caterers declined a job because it required pork?
Would they be taken to court and fined?
What if Christian videographers declined a job because it required them to shoot a porn scene for a movie?
Would they be fined?
Yet these Christian bakers have not just been fined, they have been fined a ridiculous amount.
Really now, what kind of "emotional suffering" did the lesbian couple endure?
The women listed a total of 178 symptoms of their suffering—not 7 or 8 or even 17 or 18, but 178 symptoms—90 from one and 88 from the other.
As reported by Kelsey Harkness, "Examples of symptoms include 'acute loss of confidence,' 'doubt,' 'excessive sleep,' 'felt mentally raped, dirty and shameful,' 'high blood pressure,' 'impaired digestion,' 'loss of appetite,' 'migraine headaches,' 'pale and sick at home after work,' 'resumption of smoking habit,' 'shock,' 'stunned,' 'surprise,' 'uncertainty,' 'weight gain' and 'worry.'"
All this—and much, much more—simply because a Christian bakery said, "It's contrary to our religious beliefs to participate in a same-sex wedding ceremony."
Is it possible that these women were not exaggerating?
Yes it is.
But that doesn't mean that the Kleins should be fined $135,000. Instead, it means we should question the overall emotional stability of these two lesbians since it is almost impossible to believe that they really suffered all this simply because a Christian company said they could not participate in a lesbian "wedding."
Since coming to faith in Jesus as a Jewish teenager in 1971, I have often experienced rejection from the Jewish community. For example, a Jewish bookstore wouldn't sell books to my school, a Jewish educational service changed their phone numbers to shut me out once I subscribed to their phone-based teaching sessions, a religious Jewish man spat on my face while we talked on the train one day, also hurling my Hebrew Bible in anger, while others have simply turned their backs on me when I tried to address them.
So what?
We all get rejected and we all have people who don't like us and we sure don't come up with lists of 178 examples of our trauma when someone expresses their polite disagreement with something important to us.
Let's also remember that, before the courts ever ruled on the Kleins' case, the vicious, gay activist attack against them forced them to close their business, which means that the fine now levied against them would have to come out of whatever personal funds they have.
As Aaron Klein said, "The state is now saying that we can award damages above and beyond what you have already suffered ... and they have no qualms about doing this. It is really showing the state is taking a stance on absolutely obliterating somebody that takes a different stance than the state has."
What kind of totalitarianism is this? And how could this lesbian couple possibly think they were entitled to $135,000 in compensation, blaming this litany of 188 symptoms of emotional suffering on the Kleins?
This is beyond ludicrous.
But it gets worse and even more ludicrous.
On Friday, shortly after the fine was announced, an account for the Kleins was set up on GoFundMe, and in about 8 hours, more than $109,000 was raised for them. And then suddenly the page was taken down.
What happened?
According to Jay Richards, "A competitor of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, Lisa Watson of Cupcake Jones, contacted GoFundMe to alert the crowd-funding company that the Kleins had violated the terms of service," as a result of which they disabled the campaign.
This is what Watson wrote to GoFundMe: "This business has been found GUILTY OF DISCRIMINATION and is being allowed to fundraise to pay their penalty. The gofundme terms of service address hate speech, bigotry, criminal activity and sexism among other things in their campaign ... The amount of money they have raised in a matter of a few hours by thousands of anonymous cowards is disgusting."
What a ridiculous complaint, especially in its accusation that it was "anonymous cowards" who came forward to help the Kleins, deeming their actions "disgusting."
So today, you can't even stand with other Christians without being lambasted in the ugliest terms.
This is utterly appalling.
But it is even more appalling that GoFundMe agreed with her complaint and shut down the campaign, claiming that because Sweet Cakes had been found guilty by the court, raising funds for them would violate the GoFundMe terms of services. (Others have already pointed out that GoFundMe is being completely inconsistent in their actions here.)
Thankfully, Franklin Graham stepped forward and continued the campaign for the Kleins on his Samaritan's Purse website.
But this whole episode exposes the moral bankruptcy of the contemporary attack on Bible-believing Christians, first, with the state requiring the Kleins to violate their religious beliefs, second, by blaming them for a ridiculous list of traumas, third, by fining them such an exorbitant amount of money, and fourth, by shutting down the caring campaign meant to help them.
Church of America, wake up.
These are truly urgent times.

Israeli Jewish Teens to Promote Arabic in Jerusalem

Israeli Jewish Teens to Promote Arabic in Jerusalem

Tuesday, April 28, 2015 |  Ryan Jones  Israel Today
Next week a group of 150 Jewish high school students will ride Jerusalem’s light rail while conversing only in Arabic. It is a noble initiative that has been poorly presented by some organizers and journalists giving the impression of overbearing racism in the Jewish state.
The event has been organized by the movement known as Tag Meir, established to combat those hate crimes perpetrated by Jews, primarily against Arabs. Over the past several years, there have been numerous occurrences of anti-Arab graffiti, and more recently a handful of violent attacks by Jews against Arabs and Druze have made headlines.
“We’ve decided to give Arabic speakers in Jerusalem visibility and even pride,” organizer Merav Livneh-Dill told The Times of Israel. “The goal is to allow Arabic to exist in the public sphere and legitimize those who want to speak it but are afraid to do so.”
After reaching the light rail’s final station at Mt. Herzl, the students will be joined by Education Ministry officials for a ceremony conducted in both Hebrew and Arabic.
While the initiative is itself positive and demonstrates, once again, that Israel is in fact not an apartheid state, it also runs the risk of misrepresenting the issue.
It is not as though Arabs in general are afraid to and refrain from speaking their language in Jewish-dominated areas.
The main Jerusalem shopping mall near my home is regularly filled with Arab shoppers speaking Arabic, and no one seems to mind.
Arab children playing and conversing in Arabic can be found at public parks across the city any given weekend, and no one seems to mind.
Just last week, a man sitting near me on the bus ride to my Jewish neighborhood was speaking Arabic loudly into his phone. He was clearly not fearful of doing so, and, again, none of the Jews round about us seemed to mind.
Initiatives like the above are a good thing, but should not be presented out of context. The majority of Israelis already have no problem with Arabs speaking Arabic in their midst, and the few extremists who do won’t be deterred by this demonstration, anyway.

Do You Ignore or Acknowledge God’s Protection?

Do you run to God for shelter, if even you don't agree with His wisdom?

I was going to a birthday party. Like any great Pappy, I stopped on the way to the party to get my grandson, Elijah, a present for his first birthday.
He was at the age where he mimicked sounds. If you asked him, "What does a doggie say?" His reply was "Arf." How did he get to be so cute?
As I walked into the little toy area of a drug store, I spotted the perfect toy. A drug store doesn't have a really big toy section I found out. But here it was: a cute, fuzzy, battery-operated puppy. A long cord was attached to the toy, with a small box on the other end. It had two buttons on it, to make the doggie bark and walk. Now this was a cool toy! It was well worth the $5.99 price tag.
A little while later, when Elijah opened it, he was so excited. Because he is a little genius, he learned how to push the correct buttons very quickly. He pushed one to make the puppy bark and one to make it walk. It was by far his favorite gift and he dragged it with him everywhere.
However, as I watched him play with the toy, I became concerned about the cord that attached the doggie to the little control box. Several times Elijah got tangled up in the cord. My immediate fear was that he could be harmed if the cord wrapped around his neck. I dug the box out of the trash and read the outside. It said, "Recommended for 3+ years of age." Now I had a dilemma.
How could I take the toy away from the birthday boy? Simple. I waited until he took a nap, and I confiscated the dangerous toy. Protecting my grandson took precedence over his happiness with the toy. And the amazing thing is, he doesn't even know I protected him. He may never know. He, in fact, never missed the toy. But regardless of how he would react, his protection from harm and trouble was paramount in my mind.
In Psalm 32, David declares to the Lord: "You are my hiding place; You will preserve me from trouble; You will surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah" (v.7). Then in Psalm 61:7 he writes, "May he sit enthroned before God forever; oh, prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him."
Dozens of times in the Psalms alone, David acknowledges God's protection. Make no mistake about it. The Lord God is our protector. He goes before us to make the crooked places straight. He is our rock, our fortress and our deliverer. His shield surrounds us. "The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble." (Ps. 9:9, emphasis added).
Please do not miss this: It is His love and faithfulness that protect us. Our happiness is not as important as our protection. His hand of protection is over us, even when we don't realize it.
For instance, we may have had a flat tire, and that may have protected us from danger ahead. Or perhaps we missed an appointment, but that protected us from a bad situation. Even a broken relationship that we simply did not understand may have been a means of protecting us from what was to come. If we walk in the Light of His Word, our way is protected. We are covered in perfect love and covenant faithfulness.
This week as you walk the path of your Christ journey, acknowledge His protection. Thank Him for it, even if it is not readily visible. Trust that your times are in His hands. Continue steadfastly, praying and believing. If you sense trouble coming, run into His shadow. Find refuge in Him as your stronghold.
The storms will blow. That is inevitable. Trials and temptations abound. Satan came to kill, steal and destroy. Remember this: Your protection is more important to your Heavenly Father than your happiness. Be strong and of good courage. The Lord your God is with you—everywhere you go. And you are protected; I promise.
Prayer Power for the Week of April 27
This week thank God every day that He is your hiding place and a refuge in times of trouble. Thank Him for His continual protection over you and your loved ones, and that He is with you everywhere you go. Remember the persecuted church around the world, and continue to pray for Israel's protection. Thank Him for His mercy on our nation and cry out for repentance and revival to spread across the land. Pray for unity among believers and for a release of concerted prayer for our national, state and local leaders, for a harvest of souls, and a return to honoring God as a nation and as individuals (Ps. 32:7; Ps. 9:9; 2 Chr. 7:14).

Today's Israel Inspiration

We are now in the Hebrew month of Iyar - אייר - which according to Jewish tradition is an acronym that stands for the words in today's verse: אֲנִי י-ְהוָה רֹפְאֶךָ.  The very name of the month of Iyar teaches us that the powers of life and death and the ability to heal lie not in the hands of man, but exclusively in the domain of the Almighty. Please pray for the victims of Nepal’s devastating earthquake, including 150 Israeli tourists who have yet to make contact and are believed to be missing, and for the safety and success of the brave team of Israeli paramedics and disaster-relief workers who have landed in Nepal to provide medical support and emergency supplies.

"It's TIME to Empower YOUR DREAMS and the DREAMS OF THE NATION" - Chris Hoff

Divine Dreams of Building and Modern Technology

I was given a series of 3 dreams over a 3-night period. In the first dream, I had I was standing in a glass house on the edge of a cliff overlooking a large canyon with land on the other side. There was an older man standing next to me who was a contractor by trade. In the dream I knew that we were supposed to build a bridge across this canyon so that people could migrate to this new territory and develop a city.

I looked at the gentleman next to me and asked him if anyone had ever tried building a bridge before. He replied, "Yes, on many occasions, but the ground has always been too hard for us to break through in order to create a strong foundation for construction." I asked him to show me the equipment they had been using and, to my surprise, he said, "Just this pick axe."

I was shocked! I asked him if he was serious. There was no response, only a look of confusion as if he knew of no other way to work, but through brute force. I began to educate him on the need for modern technology and the need to upgrade their equipment to work smarter instead of harder. I pulled out my cell phone and began making a few calls to bring in heavy machinery to do this work. (Photo via Pixabay)

The next night I had another dream. My wife and I were sitting in the back seat of my dad's old station wagon we used to get around in as a kid. As my dad was getting into the driver's seat, he handed me a number of gifts, and when I asked what these were for he told me I was to distribute them accordingly.

Immediately, I noticed my grandmother sitting in the passenger's seat of the car. At that moment she turned around and handed me an envelope with $5,000 in it and explained to me that this was my inheritance and it was time for me to manage it. I turned behind me and saw my younger brother sitting in the furthest back seat, and as I began to hand him one of these gifts my father had given me, I woke up.

The third night I had this last dream where I was walking into a large three-story circular sanctuary. The place was packed with many people on every level. I looked across the sanctuary from where I had entered and noticed a family from my childhood seated on the first level. As I approached them, they smiled and gave me a surprising look of confusion. They asked me what I was doing. Taken back, I said, "What do you mean?" The mother responded, saying, "We've all gathered in this place to hear you share your heart." I didn't understand, but reluctantly stepped out onto the empty stage and the dream changed.

Immediately, I was standing over a nuclear reactor and was dressed in white protective hazard clothing to protect me from the elements. There were two other nuclear scientists standing on either side of this reactor operating a piece of machinery that was mining through the nuclear content for something very important. As the machine recoiled from the reactor, it pulled out a large black box.

The scientists brought it over to me, and as I began to open it I had this feeling come over me that this was something of the highest importance for people all over the country, and then I woke up.

Interpretation: Church Reformation – Look Beyond Ourselves and Join Together

As I prayed over these dreams it became apparent that God was speaking to me. I've never had three dreams over consecutive nights like this before. God had my complete attention. The Lord was showing me from this first dream that as I was standing inside a glass house, we must live from a place of transparency where we can both see outward and inward

This is in contrast to a typical house with normal walls where you cannot see outward but can only see what's confined inside its walls. God is redirecting the aim of our focus so that we not only concentrate inwardly, but that we look to the people and world around us beyond ourselves. (Photo via Pixabay)

Now is the time a bridge is built that will make a way for people to cross over into the land of their promise where their potential can thrive. However, it's clear that this feat will not be accomplished by using the existing tool set or modes of operation that generations before us have been accustomed to using. This is because over time the scope of work in God's Kingdom has expanded and God has created advances in Kingdom technology to equip us for this work.

ElijahList Prophetic Resources

The Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation is now upon the Church. Gone are the days of the pick axe where we operate independently as individuals. Now enter the season of "divine autonomation" – a synergistic partnership between the power of God and the "connected" Body of Christ. Now begins the reformation of the Church where we re-learn how to function as one person, being joined together in accordance with Ephesians 4:16, and our combined efforts are compounded exponentially.

For me, a station wagon has always been more than a mode of transportation, but a reminder of my family. I have very fond memories of travelling with by brothers, mom and dad together in our Oldsmobile station wagon. Our heavenly Father is ready to go and it's time for us to buckle up for this next ride.

It's apparent that this next movement will now travel through the vehicle of family and shared generations.

Even as the second dream consisted of multiple generations and extended family seated together in that station wagon, God is now moving across our country through the coming together of multi-generational family, even down to the third and fourth generations! (Photo via Pixabay)
He is gathering together people as gifts to be distributed for the empowerment of others. Each of us have been given a number of gifts – people that God has placed in our lives as He has pleased. We are to manage these gifts as His inheritance that He has given us stewardship over. It was $5,000 that was given to me in the dream, referring to the miracle of multiplication where Jesus fed the 5,000.

The people God has placed in your life are His inheritance, and as we rightly steward the relationships in our lives, there will be multiplication in the form of resources and more people.

Today you have been commissioned to manage His inheritance faithfully unto the empowerment of one another. You have been given the 1 Corinthians 10:24 mandate to serve the well-being of others.

Empowering One Another – We Are the Answer to Someone Else's Dream!

In this third dream there were three levels to this sanctuary. God was underscoring to me again the importance of multiple generations, gathering in one place to be joined together.

Even as I had spotted a family from my childhood in this dream, God is going to begin reconnecting some of you with family from your youth that will be the very source of encouragement needed to enable you to step onto the platform of your circle of influence and operate from that place in your heart that God has made you passionate about.

If He hasn't already started doing this, I encourage you to partner with God's Word on this and seek out some of these people from your life to see what treasure you may rediscover.(Photo via Pixabay)

T.S. Elliott said, "We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time." The power of rediscovering the treasure of past relationships awaits you.

As I pondered the meaning behind why this dreamed changed from this sanctuary to me standing over a nuclear reactor, God reminded me of the process of how nuclear energy is created.

In short, the strongest bonds any element in the earth has are called covalent bonds, which are formed by the sharing of electrons between two atoms. In nuclear "fission," neutrons intentionally collide with these atoms to split their bonds to create heat or energy.

God is very intentional in this hour about bringing us together in all types of gatherings all over the country to facilitate an environment where our destinies collide with one another.

This black box brought out from the reactor in that dream was God's empowerment. It is of the highest importance that we empower one another to live to our potential if we are to engage in this movement of another great awakening.

We are the answer to someone else's dream! When we "collide" with one another, through relationship built on God's love, it produces a reaction of "splitting off" or "sending out" – meaning that we empower one another to step into the fullness of who we are meant to be. As we allow God to connect us together we will empower one another to rise to our potential. Now is the time we build a bridge into the land of God's promise. (Photo via Pixabay)

Why Iraq's ISIS Escapees Are Coming to Christ in Droves

Why Iraq's ISIS Escapees Are Coming to Christ in Droves

Iraqi people fleeing the Islamic State
Iraqi people fleeing the Islamic State (Reuters)
"Could this happen to us in America?" That was the question from Patrick Klein President of Vision Beyond Borders following his recent trip to Northern Iraq.
The refugee crisis in and around Iraq is mind-boggling. According to the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR), there are more 250,000 refugees living in Iraq. There are another 426,000 refugees from Iraq. And, another 1.9 million internally displaced people (IDPs). That means there are 2.4 million people who have incredible needs in and around Iraq.
Klein just returned from visiting refugee camps in and around Dohuk. The stories he heard were heartbreaking. The testimonies of Christians were amazing. The needs of refugees, overwhelming.
President of VBB Patrick Klein says he visited Iraqi refugees forced from their homes in Mosul—many of them, Christians. "Most of them have lost hope, and they're just discouraged. They say: 'Where do we go? What do we do now? Maybe if we come to America or Europe, we can start a new life.' I don't want to see 300,000 Christians leave Iraq [with] no Christian witness left in Iraq."
Many of the refugees are college educated, middle class Iraqis who had good jobs and bank accounts to help support their families. That all changed with the Islamic State started taking over in June. "There were 52,000 security forces protecting Mosul and the surrounding area. There were 3,000 ISIS. They believe Maliki, the former president of Iraq, told the generals to lay down their arms and surrender, and they don't know why."
When that happened, ISIS started going from village to village forcing Christians to leave. "A lot of [the Christians] had Muslim neighbors they knew for 30 years. These Muslim neighbors said, 'Get out of Iraq. You don't belong here. We hate you Christians.'"
They were forced to either convert to Islam, leave or die. "One man told us: 'I think God is chastising us because we forgot God. We stopped reading our Bibles. We stopped praying. Maybe God is using this.' He said, 'I want to tell you, my family and I we're having devotions together every night. We're praying together. We're reading the Bible together.' He said, 'We realize that all we have is Jesus.'"
According to Klein, this trip was the hardest trip he's ever made. It forced him to ask an important question. "I thought: 'Could this happen to us in America? Could we be forced with a decision? Are we going to follow Christ or walk away from everything we own?' I pray that the church in America would love him passionately, that we would not lose our first love."
The spread of ISIS is also impacting nominal Muslims who are helping refugees. Klein says, "A lot of people—Muslims—are saying, 'If this is what Islam is, we don't want to be Muslims anymore,' and they're opening up to the gospel."
VBB is working through local churches on the ground there to provide for the needs of refugees. They hope to fill a shipping container. "We're going to send hygiene supplies: shampoo, soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste, basic toiletry supplies. And then, we're also going to send in some medical supplies: vitamins, Tylenol, bandaids and Neosporin–things like that."
Klein says you can either send in cash so VBB can purchase the supplies, or you can collect them yourself and send them to VBB's Wyoming office. Click here for additional information about VBB and their work worldwide.
