Word of the Lord: "The Drought is Over"

I was enjoying the cool beach air and the light rain in Carmel, California last week, as I took some personal time to think about and work on some writing assignments. The atmosphere was spiritually open and I sensed the prophetic anointing the moment I arrived. I normally encounter moderate to severe spiritual problems in each city I travel to, requiring a day or two of focused prayer just to find my balance. This time it was different and I was just grateful to have the peace of God on the very first day.

As I was walking towards the beach, the Holy Spirit spoke clearly to my heart. He said, "The drought is over." I didn't react, but continued to listen. He repeated it again saying, "The drought is over and the rains are coming back to California."

California has been in a physical drought for three or four years officially and has been rationing water. I live in the farm belt of California and water is critical to our economy. I've had prophetic words connected to the appearance of rain in the past, but this time it felt like a much stronger word.

Elijah and Intercessory Prayer

I suddenly connected the analogy of Elijah on Mt. Carmel in I Kings 18 and my personal trip to Carmel, California. The opening verse of this chapter is a specific instruction to Elijah from the Lord to "present yourself to Ahab and I will send rain on the earth." They too were in their third year of drought and without a word from the Lord, it was not going to change. It was also the set-up for that famous showdown between the prophets of Baal, Jezebel, and the prophet Elijah.

I believe this was a God-ordained coincidence as I've had my own dealings with the spirit of Jezebel in California. I keep prophetic watch for the state and intercede deeply for it. This prophetic watch began with a vision about eight years ago that would play repeatedly inside my imagination. I kept seeing a scene of a mother bear fighting for her cubs. It reminded me of the bear on the California state flag, but I didn't connect it until a visiting minister from England came to speak at our church. She had shared a prophetic word about the coming glory revival for the state of California.

When she shared the word, a prophetic burden came on me from the Lord and I began to fight in prayer for the children of California like a mother who had lost her "cubs." (Photo via Wikipedia)

Soon after, I also had a visitation from an angel with instructions on how to intercede for the state. I can't give all the details here, but one of the instructions was to: ask the Lord for the anointing of Elijah to come upon the state to 1) reconcile families and 2) to destroy Jezebel (Mal. 4:5-6)

As my intercessory teams and I obeyed the Lord to pray, we experienced very complex spiritual warfare that told us to never be complacent about the sick and violent assignments against children. The Jezebel spirit hates and destroys children and we were to pray always. We've continued our intercession for California and have not given the Lord rest on this matter (Is. 62:7).

Prophetic Dream: Storms of Glory Coming to the Church

At the end of my week in Carmel, the Lord gave me a prophetic dream. I was in a two-story educational facility in the middle of a well-watered, lush valley and hillside. The facility didn't belong to me, but in the dream I held authority to provide counsel within this building. I only saw one room on the top floor, but it needed some attention! It was dusty and the furniture was all out of place.

I looked out the window and watched a white tornado hit a home about 1/3rd of a mile away. It flattened the garage and then went through the interior and gutted the inside. I also knew there were 30 tornadoes coming towards this educational facility very soon. The facility leader was a pretty red-haired woman who had a small company of followers with her. I warned her in the dream about the coming white tornadoes.

The timing of this dream concerned me at first. Understand that I had heard a specific prophetic word about rain and then I had a specific dream about the coming tornadoes! The very next day after this dream, and as many of you have read, there were dangerous rain downpours in the mid-west with tornadoes touching down in different places as well. In all sensitivity, I don't think my word and dream were about the mid-west situation, although it can appear that way on the surface. I have too much intercessory history with California and it resonated with me to be more about the West Coast with promising implications for the rest of the United States. I wanted to make that clear and to remain sensitive to the serious weather mayhem that occurred with all prayerfulness.

With that being said, what is God saying? First of all, to California He is saying: there are storms, actually movements, of white glory coming to the Church. This is good news. It's a deep glory, it's full of His holiness, and has movement on it. Ultimately, this is about the salvation of souls and advancing the Kingdom of God in ways we couldn't make happen on our own.

This glory "movement" will first challenge anything out of order by removing it or cleaning it out. If you are a pastor, you will most likely experience your church being sifted. People who aren't with you will be moved out. You need them to go so you can move forward. Set your heart to not stay in grief, to not be bitter, but to praise Him because it needed to happen. (Photo via Wikipedia)

For others, this will challenge your friendships for the same reason. Your friendships and relationships will be reordered so you can run with those who are willing to run.

We are also going to learn on a whole new level that just being sincere is not enough. Sincerity must also host the Presence of God to be effective. We will have to be in step with what God is doing and really learn how to carry the Glory of God in a way that "moves." It will be a new thing for many of us. Glory!

For the rest of the nation, here is what I believe God is doing in connection with this white glory – this "movement" coming to California. Former San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsom, once said, "What happens in California will happen everywhere" (my paraphrase). I'm not in agreement with most of the former mayor's stances, but many of us heard the prophetic word in his statements. (The Holy Spirit does prophesy through unbelievers on occasion: John 11:49-51.)

When I was attending college in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I began to notice a weather pattern. When it rained in California, that storm would many times show up three or four days later in Oklahoma. It would pick up force along the way, however, and be much stronger once it came to the mid-west. I believe this is a prophetic illustration for us.

This glory movement coming to California will travel through the United States and pick up force along the way as it travels into different states.

California is a "Revivalist" State

California is a historical "well" for revivalists and revival movements. God blesses each state with its own glory and we recognize California as a consistent carrier of revival. I'm not saying that powerful moves of God will never start anywhere else. Of course they will! Either way, we can always count on California to bring forth a move of God and she's going to birth another.

When Elijah heard from the Lord about the rain, he didn't sit there. He went into a cave and actively prayed for the rain to come. With that said, I actively make the decree to California, "Your drought is over. The rains are coming!"

Go ahead and receive this for yourself and receive it for the Body of Christ. When the physical rains come, recognize it as a blessing. The Lord spoke to me a few years ago out of Deut. 28:12 and said, "When you see the rain, know that I am blessing all the works of your hands." With that said, we bless the rain. We don't curse it, complain against it, or accept the attitude that it inconveniences us. We bless the rain! (Photo via Pixabay)

Finally, how do we prepare ourselves for these "white glory" movements coming to our lives and to our churches? I haven't experienced this before in the way I see it coming, and honestly feel inadequate to instruct for it. I do know the Word, however. It says, "The Lord God is a sun and shield, He gives grace and glory..." (Ps. 84:11).

I believe that God shines His light on what needs to be seen and He then shields your heart as you see it. This helps us to see what needs to be set in order in our lives with joy and not condemnation. He also gives grace at the same time He's giving glory. He's not bringing a glory movement to California and then to the nation so we can fail at it. There will be His grace to match His glory.

Jennifer Eivaz: "The DROUGHT IS OVER! A Prophetic Word for California and How it Will Affect the Nation"

From the Desk of Steve Shultz:

Steve ShultzJennifer Eivaz lives in California and she and her husband Ron pastor a vibrant church in Turlock, CA.

When the Lord gave Jennifer this assignment years ago – to carry the state of California in prayer, she was obedient to the call. I'm sure it must be gratifying to now be able to declare prophetically that the drought is over. It is also an act of GREAT FAITH because the drought appears anything but "over."

When I receive words like this from credible prophetic and intercessory voices, I LOVE IT! Because now I get to agree in prayer and I get to watch it come to pass. I hope you'll be as excited with this word as I am. Here's how you should respond...
Agree in prayer, reminding God of this promise and telling Him you are partnering with this prophetic word to both declare and yes, DECREE that the drought is over. Just keep doing that until the clouds begin to burst with rain!

I was raised in California, met my wife in California, was married there, and our first two children were born there. MY HEART is WITH CALIFORNIA and I am partnering with this word that, "THE DROUGHT IN CALIFORNIA IS OVER." I plan to agree with and decree this word and I hope you'll do the same.

Enjoy!

A Word to Self-Righteous Christians Attacking Josh Duggar - Michael Brown

A Word to Self-Righteous Christians Attacking Josh Duggar

Josh Duggar
Though Josh Duggar did wicked things, that doesn't mean God did not transform his life. (Reuters)

In the Line of Fire, by Michael Brown
I have been terribly grieved by some "Christian" responses to Josh Duggar, as if there are some sins God cannot forgive or some people that He cannot transform. Such an attitude betrays a fundamental lack of understanding of the gospel of grace and is actually a slap in the face of the Savior.
When I shared some redemptive thoughts about Josh's situation earlier in the week, I did not for a moment minimize the gravity of his acts. Specifically, I wrote that "he did sin grievously"; I put his actions in the category of "wicked things" that some of us did as teenagers; I stated that, "There's no excuse for sin, so own up to it"; I referred to Josh committing "serious sexual sin"; and I said "there are consequences to our actions" but that God can redeem, also stressing the importance of the church helping the victims of abuse.
And although I have never been the victim of sexual abuse, I have listened to the stories of abuse victims for years, often devastated by what they shared.
I remember reaching out to a blind, facially disfigured teenage girl at a church service one night. She told me that her problems began when she was sexually abused as girl, after which the pain was so great she got into drugs, finally making a death pact with her boyfriend and another friend. The other friend would shoot each of them in the head and, hopefully, not get caught.
Tragically, her boyfriend died as a result of his wounds, the other boy did go to jail for his actions, but instead of dying, she was blinded.
I thought to myself, "What kind of divine judgment awaits the man who abused her if he does not repent and find mercy before that day?"
A number of our ministry school grads work tirelessly in several nations to combat human trafficking, and I support their work however I can. They tell me in detail about the trauma experienced by these kids and teens sold into sex slavery, with full recovery being extremely difficult and rare (if they even manage to survive and are rescued).
In no way would I dream of minimizing the sin of a sex offender, even a younger one like Josh was, but I absolutely believing in maximizing the grace of God, who delights in saving the worst of sinners.
That's what Paul wrote in 1 Timothy, using himself as an example. He explained that "I was previously a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and an insolent man. But I was shown mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. The grace of our Lord overflowed with the faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, first, Jesus Christ might show all patience, as an example to those who were to believe in Him for eternal life" (1 Tim. 1:13-16).
Sadly, professing Christians have written to me, assuring me that God could never forgive Josh for what he did or that "once a molester, always a molester." And they also assure me that they understand grace and believe in the power of the gospel.
Nonsense.
Responses like theirs make me wonder if they have ever experienced God's mercy themselves.
The fact is, the very best of us are worthless wretches outside of His grace, and on the holiest day of our lives, in ourselves, we are utterly depraved in light of God's perfect brightness.
If you have ever come under deep conviction of sin, either as a sinner or a saint (meaning, as a nonbeliever or as a believer), you know what I'm talking about.
Suddenly, your flesh is revealed, as happened to the prophet Isaiah when he encountered the Lord, crying out, "Woe is me! For I am undone because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Hosts" (Is. 6:5)
Suddenly, you become aware of the depth of your guilt and depravity, of the impurity of your motives, of the corruption of your actions, of your selfishness or greed or envy or lust or hatred or pride or rebellion or bitterness—or all of the above.
You feel as if the worst hell is too good for you, and you are completely overwhelmed when you realize that not only is God willing to forgive you, but that Jesus died for you and paid for every one of those sins, pronouncing you righteous through faith and bringing you into His family as a fellow child of the Father.
In the words of John Newton, the former slave trader, guilty of committing atrocities against fellow human beings, "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me."
I know extraordinary men of God today who used to be in involved in terrorist activities or who were once sexually depraved or consumed by hate, and they are some of the saintliest people on the planet. And all of us, no matter how we lived our lives, were sinners in need of salvation and mercy.
Those who have been shown mercy should lead the way in showing mercy; those who have been forgiven should lead the way in forgiving others; those who have been transformed should be the first to believe for the transformation of others.
We should exercise wisdom when it comes to putting certain people in certain positions (for example, no matter how transformed a convicted former child molester might be, I would never put that person in the church's children's ministry, for many obvious reasons), but we should absolutely believe in the power of God to forgive the worst of sinners and trust the power of the blood of Jesus to make us truly clean.
I really do fear for those who do not recognize the depth of their own sin in light of God's holiness and who do not understand the principle that "he who has shown no mercy will have judgment without mercy, for mercy triumphs over judgment" (Jacob [James] 2:13).
May we be ambassadors of the transforming mercy of God, and may we glory in the life-transforming power of the gospel.
That's what the cross is all about.

The Holy Ark travelled with the Jewish people throughout their journey to the Promised Land, and was a constant reminder of God’s presence within the camp. The Ark contained the Tablets of the Law - the Torah, teaching us that just like the Ark was the focal point of the Israelites existence in the desert, so too, the Bible must always remain central throughout our lives as well. All You have Been Walking Through is NOT for Nothing by Lana Vawser

All You have Been Walking Through

is NOT for Nothing

by Lana Vawser

Identity Network

I saw the winepress of heaven over the lives of many believers and many in that hidden place of pressing. The pressing has been intense and at times it feels as if the pressing could not increase anymore, but the pressing continued. The pressing from various sources, God has used all of them for the GOOD of His people and I saw such pure heavenly rich, glorious wine flowing from the winepress of the lives of God's people. It was saturated in the fragrance of heaven.

As I watched this pressing happening the more pressing that occurred the more the Father poured His love, His strength, His comfort and revelation into the hearts and lives of His people. So even though the pressing was so intense, MORE was being poured in than the pressing was seemingly taking. So unaware the people of God were in this hidden place of deep pressing, but they were actually living in a greater overflow of His love, strength, comfort and revelation than they ever had been.

As this glorious wine flowed from the lives and hearts of believers, I saw crowns flowing out in amidst this glorious heavenly wine. There were names written upon each of these crowns.

ESTHER

SAMUEL

DAVID

JOSEPH

DANIEL

These crowns fell at the feet of many believers and Jesus came and placed these crowns upon their heads. As I looked closer, on the front of the crown was one of those names mentioned above but on the back was the name of the believer. Instantly I knew that this pressing had been to bring these ones to the place of preparation where they would carry a similar anointing to the names placed on the front of these crowns, but not identical as they were created unique and individual, beautiful and different, hence their own name. I knew they were going to be used in similar ways to these heroes of the faith.

Encourage My People

Jesus said to me, "Lana, encourage my people that what they have been walking through is not for nothing, but for a greater purpose, vision and mission than they have imagined." I saw Him smile the most beautiful smile and His face was radiant with joy, expectancy and His eyes danced looking at His people, SO PROUD! With a wink and a smile He says to me, "Lana, tell them, it is going to be GREAT."

All of a sudden, I find myself standing before a stage that looked like a runway where models walk to display outfits. But this stage was so different. It was draped in the most beautiful curtains, like robes, that were red and with a smile on my face my heart knew that it was a sanctuary. A place that was so special, an inner chamber and the red curtains all around were reminders of the blood of the Lamb, and all that He purchased. There was glorious heavenly light in every part of the room that filled the room with such warmth and joy, such peace that nothing else mattered than being in this place.

It was the place that represented deep intimacy with God, the inner chamber, but also a stage set. I wondered why there was a stage, and into my heart came the words "to be placed on any stage of influence or stage of the world, it is birthed and remained upon by remaining in the place of deep intimacy with Me."

Jesus then stepped onto the stage, and my eyes filled with tears as I could feel His pleasure over His people, His complete joy at the release and unveiling.

He looked at me with His beautiful eyes and said to me, "It is time!!"

One by one He began to bring forth His people wearing crowns, each with the names written on the crowns. They were so beautiful and so wonderfully prepared.

"All for such a time as this," He spoke and handed each one a key, and the keys that each one of these were handed unlocked doors to their destiny. I saw them go into the world to begin to release all that was poured into them through the intense period of pressing.

In this encounter, I felt to encourage the people of God that ALL you have walked has not been for nothing. It has ALL had a perfect purpose. God has used it all, the good and the bad to bring you to this place, for such a time as this. All the things the enemy threw at you, He has turned, to bring you to this place of release.

New Mantles

God is releasing mantles right now in the heavenlies. These mantles are not to be treated lightly and they are mantles that have been released to those who have been through the pressing, that have walked the path of great sacrifice and continued to hold onto their Beloved. They have gone deeper into the inner chamber and pressed through when everything else has screamed at them to give up. The place where they have come to a place of such depth of intimacy that every part of them yearns and delights for Him and living before the audience of One.

He is releasing you now. He is releasing the Esthers, the Samuels, the Davids, the Josephs, the Daniels into the world. There is going to be an increase in dream interpretation in the Church and in the world, an increase in creative revelation in worship, an increase in the gift of administration and excellence, an increase in open doors to speak before people of influence releasing Kingdom principles.

Blueprints from heaven that have been given to the people of God in their pressing, in the winepress, the visions are being released now into the world and are going to be released into large corporations and these Kingdom principles released through these ones will not only bring increase to their corporations but salvations, signs and wonders into the marketplace.

Transformation in Governments

I felt the Lord wants His people believing for the transformation of GOVERNMENTS. Many of the keys that were released in this encounter were keys to unlock governments and minister to leaders of governments. There is a revival coming within governments. Jesus is going to visit world leaders in tremendous encounters in the night and great favor opening up through these ones being sent in to proclaim the Word of the Lord and bring about a Kingdom shift. Nations is now shifting nations with His love and Glory and He is moving into government to bring a REVIVAL OF HIS LOVE, which will bring even greater radical shifts in nations.

His People will Shine

I was then taken back into this encounter where I saw many of His people sitting on the floor around the stage of this inner chamber and they were weeping. I watched as Jesus went and knelt down beside each one and I heard their heart cries, "I am not a Joseph, I am not an Esther, I am not a Daniel."  Their hearts were full of insignificance, not knowing their value, and bound in an orphan spirit.

I saw Jesus touch the chin of each one, one by one and lift their heads to look at Him in the eyes. He spoke with such conviction, such love and compassion and He said, "THIS IS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU" and He stretched out His arms and I could see His heart, and inside His heart, I saw the crucifixion and as I saw Him on the Cross I saw Him look at each one of these and He spoke so tenderly and beautifully, "It was ALL FOR YOU!" and the people of God began to sob and sob as the love and kindness of God enveloped them, healing their hearts and breaking off the orphan spirit. "All so you could be Mine," such healing and restoration was coming into their hearts that I began to weep.

He then bent back down and handed each one a scroll. As they unraveled this scroll there were pictures of each moment of their lives, when they were children and fell and hurt their knee, to when they were adults and got a job promotion, dreams coming true and in each picture I saw HIM! Every moment of their life mattered. My eyes then gazed over to the list on the other side of the scroll and it was every hearts desire, every dream and how He had molded, shaped, planned, perfected them and their hearts cries in His presence to bring them into the place of fullness and deeper knowledge of Him and His goodness. The presence and LOVE of the Father was ALL over this scroll with the words ringing in my ears, "If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father." (John 14:9)

These ones stood to their feet, free of the orphan spirit KNOWING their value and knowing the unshakeable truth that they ARE LOVED and they are a SON AND DAUGHTER of the most GLORIOUS GOOD GOD!! I saw them go into the world into their day-to-day lives and they were releasing BOMBS OF LOVE through their words and their actions and attitudes and LOVE REVIVALS were happening EVERYWHERE they went. There were deposits of God's love being released everywhere, their feet trod in signs and wonders.

These ones who thought they were insignificant and of no value, not knowing how LOVED they were, were releasing a LOVE REVIVAL everywhere they went. People were coming to know Jesus at a rapid pace because THEY WERE KNOWN FOR THEIR LOVE.

These ones were even ministering in the Church to those who do not know their love, that were caught in division, caught in unforgiveness, bitterness and hatred and were releasing impartations of God's love through their testimonies and others were being set free in the Kingdom, reawakened and revived and then going into the world of their day to day lives and releasing His love. It was a LOVE REVOLUTION!

No matter where you are, no matter what you are walking, no matter what you have walked, as you are part of His Kingdom, it is YOUR TIME TO SHINE! It is YOUR TIME TO ARISE! Stay deep in the inner chamber with Him.  What you have walked was not for nothing. It has been for such a time as this. Doors are opening now for your destiny.

The world is waiting for you. It is time to take your place. The pressing even though was one of the most difficult things you have ever walked, was one of your greatest blessing. You just watch how He is going to use you! The best is yet to come.

As He said to me in the encounter, "Tell them Lana, 'It's going to be GREAT!!!!'"

Why Women Need Each Other by BRENDA KILPATRICK AND DOTTY SCHMITT - SPIRITLED WOMAN

women praying for each other
God is moving women to the forefront in every area of leadership. Many of them are being equipped and empowered through their relationships with other women. (Charisma archives)

Spirit-Led Woman
I was also easily intimidated. And I knew of no books that could teach me to be a good pastor's wife. Not even the annual conferences we attended provided the practical guidance I needed. Wearing the different hats a pastor's wife must put on left me stressed and fatigued, especially when complaints and discord resounded throughout the congregation.
If only I had had a mentor, colleague or confidante to help and encourage me through the early days of ministry!
MENTORING IN ACTION (DOTTY) During the years I have learned that we can be mentored by many women in many different ways. There is a mother of eight children who continues to inspire me in the area of motherhood. There are those whose marriages provide me with effective tools for my own marriage. There are pastors' wives who, as my peers, have been rich sources of hope and encouragement in my times of discouragement. Then there are those women whose passion for the Lord and revelation in the Word have deeply inflamed my heart to follow Him more intensely.
I remember sitting in a women's gathering several years ago at which Iverna Tompkins was speaking. As she taught on a specific Old Testament passage, such revelation pierced my own soul that I sat there thinking, As a Bible teacher and woman with leadership responsibilities, I want to learn from this woman of God.
When my dear friend, Jean Coleman, and I discussed a "mentoring possibility" with Iverna after the meeting, something beautiful and life-changing was birthed. Every year for eight years, a group of about 25 to 40 women met with Iverna for one week of in-depth teaching, training and interaction with one another. For one week we lived, ate, prayed, laughed, cried and learned together.
These were such blessed times! Many of us formed relationships that have forever enriched our lives, expanded our vision and empowered the fulfillment of God's call upon our lives.
NEED FOR NURTURING (BRENDA) Recently the Lord gave me a dream that made clear to me how great the need for mentoring is. In the dream I saw a young woman take a newborn baby out into a field and place it in a ravine filled with flowing water. I knew the woman had left the baby to die, so I went over to see if I could save it.
The baby was naked, with the placenta still attached and blood covering its body because it had not been cleansed after birth. Even more horrifying, it had a plastic bag over its head. Moved with compassion, I picked the baby up and pulled the bag away from its head. When I did, the baby began to cry. It was alive!
At that point the dream ended. When I awoke, I realized that the woman in the dream was a member of our church.
I asked the Lord to help me understand what He had showed me, and He revealed that the baby represented the ministry and gifting that had been birthed in the woman's life. Because she did not know how to nurture it, she was stifling it.
I could easily see how the dream applied to the woman in our church. She had a brilliant gifting in the knowledge of the Lord, but because of a lack of maturity, she often offended people by her forceful presentation and her constant desire to "give a word from the Lord."
She was pregnant with the purposes of God but lacked understanding and had not spent enough time in God's waiting room. I knew God was showing me her need--and by association, the need of many other women in the body of Christ--for a mentor.
YIELDED VESSELS (DOTTY) During the recent years of the fresh moving of God's Spirit, a number of women in leadership from around the country have touched the "revival rivers" that have been flowing and have received a deeper impartation of God's life into our hearts. In the process, we have been impressed, as Brenda was by her dream, by the obvious need of Christian women for the love, guidance and encouragement of other women. Sovereignly, the Lord has knit our hearts together in love for Him, for one another and in a special way, for women.
Our message to women everywhere has become that they, too, can be vessels of great influence if they but yield to Him. God is not looking for "strong pulpit" women; He is looking for yielded women who will say, "Yes, Lord, here I am, use me!"
MARYS AND ELIZABETHS (BRENDA) Mary, the mother of Jesus, was such a woman. In Luke 1, we read about Mary and her cousin Elizabeth, who both were pregnant with the purposes of God. When an angel appeared to Mary and told her that she would give birth to the Messiah, she did not hesitate to accept God's plan for her life. She said, "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word" (Luke 1:38, NKJV).
Mary also acknowledged what the angel told her about Elizabeth's being with child by going to stay with her cousin for a time. Elizabeth confirmed Mary's announcement of her conception and thus encouraged Mary to believe that what the angel had prophesied to her would come to pass.
I believe God is calling the younger women in the body of Christ today to be like Mary, willing to abandon themselves completely to Him and saying yes to His will no matter how it might affect their reputations.
He is calling the mature women to be like Elizabeth, pregnant with the purposes of God and giving birth to the ministry of "preparing the way of the Lord" for the young Marys who are coming forth. They are to be forerunners, the "older women" Paul speaks about who are willing to "admonish the young women" to love their husbands and children and live godly lives (Titus 2:3-5).
This is what I want to be! My constant prayer during this season of my life is: "O God, You have taught me from my youth; and to this day I declare Your wondrous works. Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come" (Ps. 71:17-18).
Whether you are young or old in the Spirit, remember: It is as we joyfully love God and then humbly serve, nurture and encourage one another that we as women will become deeply envisioned, equipped and empowered to serve the purposes of God for this generation and become the nurturing mothers and anointed mentors God intends. * Dotty Schmitt is co-pastor with her husband, Charles, of Immanuel Church in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Don't Quench the Spirit in the Next Move of God - J. Lee Grady

Have we trivialized the Holy Spirit?
Have we trivialized the Holy Spirit? (Vitaly Vitorsky)

Fire in My Bones, by J. Lee Grady
Last weekend, my wife and I helped lead a retreat for ministers in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. I knew most of the couples who were joining us, but I was surprised to learn that one of the attendees was Sally Fesperman, a leader (with her late husband, Jay) during the early days of the charismatic renewal of the 1960s and 1970s.
Sally is 88, but she is as bright-eyed and energetic as any 20-something I know. She loves to talk about her relationship with Jesus, and she shared many stories about the early days of renewal when thousands of Baptists, Methodists, Episcopalians and Presbyterians were discovering the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Sally brought back so many memories of the mid-1970s, when I was filled with the Spirit as a teenager.
While in the mountains God spoke to me from Isaiah 35 about another wave of the Holy Spirit that is coming soon. He told me, from verse 6: "Waters will break forth in the wilderness." I have never been more convinced that God is going to refresh us again with a sudden outpouring of His presence and power. I was so excited about this promise that I asked Sally on Friday morning to pray over us, and to prophetically pass the torch of renewal to the younger generation.
I wept when Sally prayed over us because I am desperate to see revival. However, by Saturday I was sobered by the responsibility of receiving this torch of renewal. That's because I know that when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the American church more than 40 years ago, we mishandled this precious gift.
I believe God will visit us again soon, but we must prepare now to avoid the mistakes of the past. Here are five ways we mishandled the outpouring of the Spirit in the last season:
1. We exploited it. The first attempt at quenching the Spirit's power in the New Testament church was made by Ananias and Sapphira, who were full of greed (see Acts 5:1-11). The same thing happened to the charismatic movement in the 1980s, when prosperity preachers with dollar signs in their eyes showed up to merchandise the Spirit's anointing. Swaggering evangelists in white suits and Rolexes began pushing people to the floor and convincing crowds to dig into their wallets to give in "miracle" offerings. And so began the slow but steady sell-out. We didn't realize the greed was driving us farther and farther from the Spirit's blessing.
2. We fabricated it. In the early days of renewal, charismatic leaders had a sense of holy awe when they prayed for people. They didn't want to do anything to grieve the Spirit. But somewhere along the way, some ministers realized they could fake the gifts of the Holy Spirit and still draw a crowd. Charlatans began hosting charismatic sideshows, complete with faked healings, spooky stage drama and mesmerizing manipulation. God's holy anointing was replaced by mood music and a quivering voice. Anybody with discernment could sense that the Spirit's sweet presence had exited the building.
3. We corrupted it. In the early charismatic days, I cut my spiritual teeth on meaty messages from firebrands such as Judson Cornwall, Leonard Ravenhill, Corrie Ten Boom, Keith Green, Derek Prince, Joy Dawson and Winkey Pratney. They preached regularly about the fear of God. Their messages demanded holiness. But if you fast-forward to today, you will find that much of the preaching in our movement has been reduced to drivel. It is sad that people can attend a "Spirit-filled" church today and never hear a sermon explaining that fornication is a sin. It is sadder that we have preachers in our pulpits who shamelessly flaunt sexual sin under the banner of a cheap grace message that will actually send people to hell.
4. We denominationalized it. When the Holy Spirit fell on certain groups in previous decades, their leaders assumed that the blessing of God was an indication that they were "special." Some denominations even taught that all other Christians would one day come under their group's banner—because they believed they had elite status. Sectarian pride might sound spiritual, but it is still pride. And don't ever think that nondenominational church networks are immune to this virus. There are trendy new groups today that claim to have a corner on truth. Their subtle message is, "We are better." Don't let this smug attitude quench the Holy Spirit.
5. We professionalized it. In the early days of charismatic renewal, there was a sense of childlike wonder as people discovered the power of the Spirit for the first time. The meetings were Christ-centered, the sermons were solidly biblical and the fellowship was deep. We could sing They Will Know We Are Christians by Our Love because we felt a deep bond with each other in the Holy Spirit.
But it didn't take long to replace the genuine sense of New Testament koinonia with something colder and less inviting. We began emphasizing titles. We discovered slick marketing techniques. Churches and their budgets grew. Then a funny thing happened on the way to the megachurch: We lost our simplicity. We turned church into a business. We stopped being relational and we became professional.
I'm not against growth, megachurches or marketing. The Holy Spirit can produce and direct all those things! But if we sacrifice the freshness and warmth of relationships on the altar of professional Christianity, we may discover the Holy Spirit has withdrawn from our ministries.
May the Lord help us to cultivate an atmosphere that attracts His presence rather than repels Him. May we be ready to receive the baton as a younger generation embraces the promise of another move of God. Come, Holy Spirit!
