Persecutors of Jews Queue Up to Say Sorry!

Persecutors of Jews Queue Up to Say Sorry!

Wednesday, June 17, 2015 |  Charles Gardner  ISRAEL TODAY
Amidst rising anti-Semitism, there appears to be a somewhat surprising parallel move towards repentance by some European nations for the many shameful actions taken against Jews over the centuries. The latest comes from Spain which, having expelled some 300,000 Jews in 1492, now appears ready to invite their descendants back!
The Sephardic Ancestry Bill, which is expected to pass through the Spanish Senate this month, aims to correct an “historic mistake” by offering citizenship to as many as 3.5 million Sephardic Jews around the world whose ancestors were forced out by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.
Neighbouring Portugal has in recent years passed a similar ‘Law of Return’ offering citizenship to the many Sephardic Jews they persecuted, including my own ancestors who were forced to flee to America in the 19th century. So I guess that entitles me to Portuguese citizenship!
These are welcome moves which contrast sharply with the growing hostility towards Jewish communities being demonstrated in Europe generally, not only in the desecration of synagogues and personal attacks, but in the calls for boycotts and condemnation in the political and economic sphere.
No doubt Spain has been influenced by their former Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar who, in aTimes article almost exactly five years ago, urged support for Israel on the basis that “if it goes down, we all go down.”
Aznar argued that the Jewish state is at the cutting edge of the battle between militant Islam and the West and concluded: “Israel is a fundamental part of the West which is what it is thanks to its Judeo-Christian roots. If the Jewish element of those roots is upturned and Israel lost, then we are lost too. Whether we like it or not our fate is inextricably intertwined.”
And in 2008 a Spanish newspaper is said to have published a hard-hitting article expressing similar sentiments – regretting the part Europe had played in an attempt to destroy a people who had pursued nothing but life and peace, while at the same time welcoming Muslims whose extremist ranks blew up trains and hijacked planes.
It does at least continue to demonstrate the potential power for good inherent in the printed word in a world where there is an ever-intensifying battle between truth and propaganda.
Meanwhile, a group of nearly 200 British Christians want to apologize and make amends for the way in which their government turned back Jewish refugees fleeing war-torn Europe 70 years ago, preventing tens of thousands from landing in their biblical homeland apparently because they exceeded a quota on immigration.
In doing so, Britain reneged on its own Balfour Declaration of 1917 promising to do all in its power to establish a home for the Jewish people. Shortly after making the promise, penned by Foreign Secretary Lord Balfour, Britain was awarded the mandate to rule the area following the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
They were thus presented with an obvious opportunity of fulfilling their pledge. But from 1938 to 1948 the British prevented more than 90 ships from landing at Haifa, according to Julie Stahl and Chris Mitchell in an article for CBN News.
“I’m here to commemorate those Jews…who suffered or died as a result of the shameful policies of the British government of the day,” Col Richard Kemp, former commander of British forces in Afghanistan, is reported as saying.
Rosie Ross, who organized the day of repentance, said: “We turned them away and put them in camps in Cyprus and Mauritius, and some were even returned to deportation camps in Germany.”
Others were locked up in a detention camp in Atlit, south of Haifa.
Lord Simon Isaacs, speaking at the event, said the quota on immigration breached Britain’s contract with the Jewish people ratified at the treaties of San Remo (1920) and Versailles (1923). And he said there were two reasons behind their behaviour: appeasing the Arabs and a Labour government that was essentially anti-Jewish.
He hopes the British government admits its mistake in time for the 2017 centenary of the Balfour Declaration. Modern Israel was re-born in 1948 despite Britain’s obstructive tactics.

Chuck Pierce: The Storm Winds Are Coming

Chuck Pierce says the storm winds are coming.

Last Sunday, there was such a powerful release of the spirit of prophecy. We are in times of contending, and times to hear and move in a new way!
"I would bring to you new opportunities in the days ahead. Even very quickly—in the very near future—you will have a time to pour out that which I'm giving you. You will have a new opportunity to get into. Don't hold back! Don't hold back! For if you do hold back then you will miss that which will rise up, and you will miss activating seeds for your future.
"Get ready, for this pouring out is coming to you. The opportunities on your path I've already ordered. Get ready, for this will be a time of ordering your steps so that your steps align with the steps that I have already set in place. And in this moment you'll see the end, but you'll see the beginning even before you step into it. So know this: Watch as I give you the opportunity to activate your beginning from the end.
Rising Rivers Point to Overflow of Blessings
"Rising rivers indicate the overflow of blessings! New deposits of blessings are coming! Open your eyes, because with rising water levels you will see many things die because they will be suffocated out as the water rises. But you will also see many things come to life that have never come to life. Additionally, you will see new deposits and many other things exposed—including snakes and lots of creatures moving to higher ground. Know that I am now changing the course of the land!
"I am re-aligning your diaphragm, the diaphragm of the body of Christ, that part that is covering the womb. I am putting a new sound in it. I am expanding your ability to breathe in My wind, and you will be fire-starters. You will begin to manifest the fullness of My fire, of your worship, of your time with Me, of the time that you're aligning your diaphragm with Me. I will breathe over the face of the earth and fire will begin to break out.
"I have shaken the heavens over you and am coming with a glory that is from Heaven, to shake the earth. This shaking and glory will cause the contractions to start, and those birth pangs to come forth. As My glory comes, it will birth new things. For I am doing a new thing in the earth and it is now shaking the heavens. I'm coming with My glory to shake the earth.
"For indeed I am releasing the sound—the sound that captivate men with the power of mystery. For man has been captivated with the wrong mystery, but I am bringing sound to the body of Christ and into the land. I will spin the mystery sound that will revive the land, that will demonstrate who the Mighty One of Israel is. So get ready for the true sound of mystery that the body will release and make the land come alive!
The Wind of My Spirit Is Reaching Into Caves
"The wind of My Spirit is reaching into the caves. My wind will originate in the caves and begin to draw out what has been hidden. Many of you have been in the cave, but this is a time where I am blowing you out into a place that you've not been before. So even if you've been hidden, you must set your sail, for I will find and re-align My people this hour. There are great winds that will be coming through the lands.
"Through this September, record where the great winds start blowing! For it is from those places that I am now beginning to push out what has been hidden. I'll blow many out of office, and blow others into office. This is a day of My blowing!
"You need to know when to brace yourself and when to let go and ride the wind. Cry out for the grace to know the difference, so you follow when you need to let go and brace yourself when you need to stand.
"You are in the midst of contrary winds. But do not back down from those winds but lean into that resistance. In your quiet and in your still times My breath will nudge you forward in the path you're supposed to take. And when you encounter doors that are closed, My breath will increase and I will blow open those doors before you. And when you come to fortified gates, even as gates that surrounded Babylon were many feet thick, My breath becomes a whirlwind that will smash those gates wide open. They will even come off the hinges and never close up against you again. So walk in faith and believe that I have set a path before you and will make a way for you with My breath.
There Will Be a Big Shaking
"Know that there will be big shaking in these next few weeks in world structures. Watch for big shakings! There will be much financial rearrangement. There are huge shakings coming, but the minute you go through the shaking you will begin to say 'I know how to find my footing in this new place!' There is a resistance! There is a resistance rising up in My people against those things that are weakening them. Let your resistance arise! Many would say that the earth is a great dynamic, great dimension, great demonstration, the sphere. But in that day you will recognize and say it is a small world after all.
"The storm winds are coming, and floods are rising. Many of you would prefer to sing the song, 'Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream ... life is but a dream.' And yet many are still trying to row, row, row the same way they have always rowed.
"You must learn to adjust to the wind, adjust to the shaking, and allow yourself to be moved in a different way. Now is your time to row in a different way! Some of you need to get a new motor. Some of you have the capacity to turn the direction. Some of you need to let your sail up and quit trying to control when you put it up, and when you bring it down! Some of you need to kick into high gear and move on in. Now just grab the wind.
"When My disciples were in the boat rowing all night in the midst of the storm, a time came for them to stop rowing and to stop contending with the storm! When they stopped their rowing, I could bring them to their point of destination. This is a time to learn how to row differently. This is a rowing of rest! This is not a rowing of sweat, nor a time to do more! The more reports you listen to ... won't solve your problems or cross you into your next place. Rather, My rest will position you where you need to go!
Everyone Is Not Receiving the Rain I'm Sending
"Everyone is not receiving the rain that I'm sending. You have cried out for more, but you don't know your own capacity. I'm causing you to know your own capacity even though it seems like a flood. I'm giving you that which you can contain. You've limited and capped it off in seasons past, but now is the time for the river to arise in you!
"I have said to watch the places that flood since that would be where Holy Spirit would begin to move. [This was prophesied during the Feast of Tabernacles in 2006]. Is it a surprise that Texas has received so much in rain in May that it would cover the entire state to a depth of eight inches? Now is your time to declare a new beginning of the Holy Spirit in Texas!
"So be still and enter into the supernatural dimension that I am in. Be still, oh, be still—it's supernatural. Even the earth will respond and answer heaven; the earth will answer heaven—it's supernatural. So get ready for the ride, and throw your hands up high; throw your hands up high, and get ready for the ride! It's supernatural—you can't control it ... you can just go with it. You can't control—you can just go with. So throw your hands up, throw your hands up high, throw your hands up in the air and enjoy the ride.
"It's not the mystery of lawlessness, not the mystery of iniquity, but the mystery and the hope of Christ in you. It's not the mystery of lawlessness, not the mystery of iniquity, it's the mystery of Christ in you. This is our hope, this is our song; this is our hope, and we sing it all the day long. This is our hope, this is our song; oh, the mystery of Christ in you, we sing it all day long. There's more of God than your hands can hold! There's more of God than your mind can know! There's more of God than your heart can apprehend! So reach out and seek more of Him.
Windows Are Opening Up Even Now
"As you are praising, arise out of the depth of your hearts. My windows are opening up even now in a greater way than you've ever experienced. So prepare your house for the multiplication of people, the multiplication of resources, the multiplication of success, the multiplication of My presence. For I have glorious benefits that you know not of. Prepare yourself for the glorious benefits that I will be sending your way!
"Port cities, prepare yourselves! For even now I will rearrange the trade structures that are being brought in. I will rearrange the way you are doing things, and I will bring some new ships in. There will be an uncovering of what is being brought into this nation. I am re-aligning the trade routes. Watch the hurricanes this year as they form. For as the hurricanes are now beginning to form in heaven during this 'whirlwind' year, you will now see the movement of these hurricanes come into earth by August. And you'll see a movement and new routes and alignments begin to form."

Sharing Love From Sweden - HEART FOR THE POOR - Eva Haglund

HEART FOR THE POOR
Eva Haglund

Today there are many people who are poor. There are many who do not have food. Some do not care about the poor and we can find egoism and lack of love. Some look down at the poor. This happens also in some churches.

This is not what God wants. Jesus identifies with the poor. He came as newborn baby unto a stable.  He did not come to a castle or a palace but to a simple stable. He did not just think about Himself. He was a giver and He gave everything, including His life for us at the cross because of His love for us. Jesus has love and compassion.

Jesus took the two bread and the seven fish as the boy gave Him and blessed them. It multiplied and it was a help for many. People were listening to His teaching and then they needed to eat.  We can see here that Jesus also thought about the poor.

He taught a parable in Luke 10 that a man was robbed and was wounded and did not have money, but the Samaritan by showing compassion in his big trouble. Jesus wants us to show compassion and help people. In Philippians 4:10 -14 we read when Paul had lack and Christians helped him. We also read in Acts 3:6 "Silver and gold I do not have but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." He did not have any money here either.

In James 2:1 is written "My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ , the Lord of glory with partiality. For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel and there should also come in a man in filthy clothes, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, "You sit here in a good place" and say to the poor man, "You stand here or sit at my footstool," have you not shown partiality among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?"

Sometimes people who are begging and other people who are poor are looked down at. The value of a human being is not in the clothes. Jesus did not look down at the poor. He said in Matt 25:40, "Assuredly I say unto you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren you did it to Me." Here we see that He cares about the poor, too.

Sometimes among Christians there is little care about the poor . Some are not interested in helping them. There can be people sometimes who hardly have any food and people do not think it is important to help. There are other Christians who have a warm heart and have a heart of caring for the poor. In Acts we can see how they cared about each other when some did not have food. We read in Acts 2:44, "Now all who believed were together and had all things in common and sold their possessions and goods and divided them among all as anyone had need."

I do not think we all need to sell our possessions and divide them but I think that you can understand the heart they had for each other. When anyone was in a need, lacking food, they helped each other. When Christians live closer to each with more fellowship and friendship, it is easier to see if anybody is poor. We read in Acts 2:46 that they had fellowship in houses and shared the bread. It needs to be restored more of this fellowship among Christians. The Bible also teach us to show hospitality. In 1 Peter 4:9 "Be hospitable to each other without grumbling."

To care about the poor we read James 2:15 where it is written, "If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food and one says them "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled, but you not give them the things which are needed for the body what does it profit?" Our faith ought to be shown in works. Love is to show practical care and love is greatest.

When Jesus was with His disciples near the sea in John 21 He made bread and gave to His friends. He gave them fish as He had prepared and fixed a warm fire when they came from the sea. It could be cold and He talked with them. He showed care and love and shared His bread with others.

Sometimes today there are Christian conferences which cost money but the poor cannot come because they cannot afford it. I think that these conferences ought to be for all, also for the poor. Church is also meant for the poor - not just for them who have enough money. If the poor are welcome to conferences it is also a testimony to relatives around.

This is agape love and is a testimony to the world. The Gospel is also for the poor and church ought to be a welcoming church for the poor.

I  think about Jesus who had to stay in a stable and was not welcome into a house. There are also prophets who are left out from meetings because they are poor. The heavenly Daddy has a heart of love and compassion and we see in the parable of the lost son His heart of caring and He rushed towards the son. He cares for all people and He cares about the poor.

We read in Matt:14:14, "And when Jesus went out He saw a  great great multitude and He was moved with compassion for them. "He took the five loaves and the two fish as He got from the boy and blessed them, broke the bread and gave them and the fish to the disciples to give it to people. I think He also thought of the poor among the people here. He had a heart for them and cared about them.

There are people who are poor around us and we cannot help all but we can help some if we have anything to give who we meet in our way. We need to share our bread and in Isaiah 58:6 - 8 we read, "Is this not the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every joke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out, when you see the naked that you cover him, and not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then you light shall break forth like the morning. Your healing shall spring forth speedily. And your righteousness shall go before you and. The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard."

God also gives back when we help the poor. We can bless also Jews who are poor. Sometimes there also poor Jews in Body of Christ - Messianic Jews. Anyone who blesses Israel God will bless. We read in Genesis 12:3 it is good to bless Israel and the Jewish people.

We need to share our bread and Jesus shared His bread. Jesus also showed the greatest love to us at Calvary.

In  John 3:16 is written "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

Yeshua/Jesus gave His Bread. He gave His life for us because of His love.

The Cost of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

The Cost of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Tuesday, June 16, 2015 |  Aviel Schneider  ISRAEL TODAY
The American research institute Rand Corporation has released a study showing that a two-state solution would benefit Israel to the tune of USD $120 billion over ten years, while the Palestinians would rake in USD $50 billion over the same time.
But with both sides plunging repeatedly into violent conflict, they are forfeiting the enormous sum of USD $250 billion, considering the costs of conflict in addition to the lost economic growth.
According to Rand, Israel would be even more of a money magnet than it is today following a comprehensive peace agreement, but it must first agree to the division of the Holy Land. The same is true for the Palestinians.
In the study, the Rand researchers expressed confidence that the international community would foot the bill for implementing the two-state solution.
“We hope our analysis and tools can help Israelis, Palestinians and the international community understand more clearly how present trends are evolving and recognize the costs and benefits of alternatives to the current destructive cycle of action, reaction and inaction,” said C. Ross Anthony, co-leader of the study and director of RAND’s Israeli-Palestinian Initiative.
Of course, there are also other ways forward besides a comprehensive peace agreement, such as a unilateral Israeli withdrawal coordinated with the Palestinian Authority, an Israeli withdrawal minus such coordination (much like the Gaza pullout of 2005), and Palestinian non-violent resistance against the status quo.
But in the case of a unilateral Israeli withdrawal, the Jewish state would be crushed under an almost unbearable financial burden as some 500,000 Jews are uprooted from their homes (and that’t not counting the parts of Jerusalem that the Palestinians claim).
Palestinian non-violent resistance would increase economic pressure on Israel, as can already be seen in the international boycott campaign. As a result of current efforts on that front, Israel loses about USD $80 billion, while the Palestinians are out USD $12 billion, a far larger percentage of their GDP.
At the same time, the outcome sought by the Rand researchers looks like wishful thinking.
Israel could never relinquish Jerusalem without plunging itself into an intractable political-spiritual dilemma. Religiously-minded Jews would never sell their eternal capital even for the princely sum of USD $120 billion.
And the Palestinian Authority won’t end its incitement against the Jewish state without recovering all of what it deems “occupied territory.” Nor would the Palestinians consider letting the Jews have Jerusalem in order to get their payday.

Chinese Gov't Destroys Church Worth Millions

Chinese Gov't Destroys Church Worth Millions

The Chinese government is tearing down a multi-million dollar church, leaving the congregation high and dry.
China Aid reports that officials had approved the Three-Self Patriotic Church in the city of Wenling.
Now it's being destroyed on government orders. The church will be allowed to relocate, but it's only receiving compensation for one-sixth of what the building was worth.
China's government has also been tearing down crosses from church buildings and arresting Christians who oppose the destruction of the crosses.

Today's Israel Inspiration

The Torah is infused with word patterns which reveal incredible hidden connections between the Bible stories. Ready for a cool example? The word "voice" (קול) appears seven times in the story of Rebecca, Isaac, Jacob and Esau, and seven times in the narrative of the revelation at Sinai in Deuteronomy. Rebecca used a similar style of language to command Jacob to hearken to her voice as Moses used to command the children of Israel to hearken to the voice of God. Can you guess the connection between choosing Jacob over Esau, and the giving of the Torah at Sinai? Find out in a book that will literally astound you with awesome word patterns throughout the Torah, proving that the Torah is a Divine work which no man could have created.

Elisabeth Elliot, Influential Author and Missionary, Dies

Elisabeth Elliot, Influential Author and Missionary, Dies

Famed Christian author, speaker and missionary Elisabeth Elliot passed away Sunday morning. She was 88 years old.

Elliot's husband, Lars Gren, said his late wife had been battling dementia. He added that she handled her mental decline with the same aplomb as the deaths of her first two spouses.

"She accepted those things, [knowing] they were no surprise to God," Gren said. "It was something she would rather not have experienced, but she received it."

Elliot authored numerous books but perhaps her most famous were those she penned about the martyrdom of her first husband, Jim Elliot. He was killed in 1956 by Waorani tribal members while he and four other missionaries attempted to reach them with the Gospel. At the time, the Waorani (also called the Aucas) was one of eastern Ecuador's unreached tribes.

"Our daughter Valerie was 10 months old when Jim was killed," she said. "Since then, my life has been one of writing and speaking."

For almost 13 years, Elisabeth Elliot recorded a 15-minute radio program, "Gateway to Joy," aimed at women. Her former producer, Jan Wismer, spoke with CBN News about her life and influence.

Steve Saint, son of the famous missionary pilot Nate Saint who was one of the five killed, shared similar sentiments regarding the woman he knew as "Aunt Betty."

"To the rest of us mortals she was an incredibly talented and gifted woman who trusted God in life's greatest calamities, even the loss of her mind to dementia, and who allowed God to use her. He did use her," Saint wrote on his Facebook page.

"I'm very sure she would not want to be remembered as a great writer, as a great speaker. She would want to be remembered as a girl, a woman who trusted God to use her and he did, powerfully," he told CBN News.

***Read more of Steve Saint's tribute to Elisabeth Elliot here.

In 1969, Elliot married Gordon-Conwell Seminary professor Addison Leitch. He passed away four years later from cancer.

"After his death I had two lodgers in my home," she wrote. "One of them married my daughter; the other one, Lars Gren, married me."

Elliot, a Wheaton College graduate and the daughter of missionaries, later went on to launch the radio program called, "Gateway to Joy."

"Elisabeth Elliot never set out to be a radio personality. She set out to do the will of God -- something we don't hear much about these days," her cohost, Jan Wismer, wrote in a 2013 tribute.

"Elisabeth believed in asking this foundational question: Is this God's will for me, right now, in this place? … Unapologetically, Elisabeth espoused such truths as: give to get, lose to find, and die to live," Wismer continued.

"Setting her sights "on things above" (Colossians 3:1), Elisabeth ministered among three indigenous groups in Ecuador before helping listeners and readers find joy in the ordinary affairs of life--like cooking meals and cleaning toilets--on her globally syndicated radio program," she said.

"She called it living sacramentally, and her rock-solid principles shaped my life," she concluded.

Elliot leaves behind her husband, daughter Valerie Elliot Shepard, son in-law Walt, and eight grandchildren.

Elisabeth Elliot, widow of martyred Jim Elliot and author of Through the Gates of Splendor, has died, according to the Gospel Coalition.
Born in 1926 to missionaries in Belgium, Elliot spent her life pursuing God into the deepest and darkest of jungles.
She married Jim Elliot, who was later martyred while trying to reach the Quichua Indians of Ecuador.
Elisabeth was known for her service and submitting to God's will, even when she didn't understand.
"I realized that the deepest spiritual lessons are not learned by His letting us have our way in the end, but by His making us wait, bearing with us in love and patience until we are able to honestly pray what He taught His disciples to pray: Thy will be done," she wrote in Passion and Purity
Please lift the Elliot family up in prayer during this time.
