Economics, According to King David - Orien Johnson, Young Life

A depiction of King David being crowned king of Israel.

Economics, According to King David

King David was one of the most popular and powerful kings of ancient Israel. During his reign of 40 years, he brought unity to a divided nation and established Jerusalem as the mightiest capital of the ancient world. He was a soldier king who made his coffers rich by conquest as was the custom of oriental potentates of that day. Yet, we have a hint in his 144th psalm that he disliked the ways of battle and longed for the sound economy of a healthy agricultural prosperity.
"Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies and whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood. May our sons in their youth be like plants full grown, and our daughters like cornerstones, cut in the similitude of a palace, that our granaries may be full, providing all manner of produce, that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields, and may our cattle be strong in labor. May there be no breaking in or going out, and no wailing in our streets. Blessed are the people who have such things; indeed, blessed are the people whose God is the Lord" (Ps. 144:11-15).
In spite of the riches he accumulated, we see a healthy lack of the materialistic philosophy that delights in things that money can buy. Psalm 62:10 gives this advice: "If riches increase, set not your heart on them."
But it is in Psalm 128:2 that we discover a rare gem. I call it a "gem" because, like so many truths in the Bible, you have to pick them up, polish them, and give them a proper setting before they become valuable to you.
Here is the quotation: "For you shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you will be happy, and it shall be well with you."
Shall we begin the polishing process?
To labor with "your hands" is a figure of speech, for we know that it is possible to work with our feet, our tongues, our brains, or with other parts of our body. But "hands" are personal things. The words show that it is our own labor that is intended and not another's.
"Labor" is work—accomplishment as a result of energy expended. This must mean constructive, creative or helpful work. It is unthinkable that the Bible would advocate work that is detrimental to one's fellow man. Therefore, any work that one is able to do that does not injure society is acceptable. We realize that it is possible to accumulate energy in the form of capital or tools that enable one to work more effectively than he could otherwise. But it is still the labor of our "hands" in that it took creative energy on our part to administer it or to put it to use after it was stored up. The gem is beginning to shine.
The next facet we work on is that word "fruit." The fruit of our labor is the net result of the labor of our hands. If I am a farmer, the fruit may be literal fruit that is good to eat. But what difference is it if I eat it or trade it for another kind of fruit? Or perhaps I might sell it and buy another kind of fruit from my neighbor, a kind that I might not have the ability to grow and yet a kind that I need and want very much.
These other fruits that I might want could be pieces of art, the fruit of labor of the artist; or instruction, the fruit of labor of the teacher; or administration, the fruit of those with organizational and leadership ability. These fruits could be listed ad infinitum, a tremendous storehouse or granary to hold the many fruits of labor of mankind—a lovely facet of our jewel.
The word "eat" is the next facet to tackle.
It is necessary for me to eat in order to live. The plan in the quotation unfolds: work, reap fruit, eat and live. It is a workable circle that perpetuates itself. It is life itself in its barest outline. If I don't work, I will not reap, I will not eat and soon I will not live. On the other hand, I may work a lot, reap a lot, eat a lot and have some left over to give away, and some to sell or to store up in order that more work may be done.
It is this possibility of putting more energy to work to produce more fruit that makes an efficient system of economics possible. There are some who cannot work because of sickness, either mental or physical. Their fruit will not sustain them. Therefore, it will be the privilege of those who can and do produce more than they need to put another Bible precept into practice: "Happy is he who is kind to the poor," (Proverbs 14:21) and also, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35) There is no law involved here—no law voted in by men, that is. But shall we call it a higher principle? It is the principle which says, "Do this, if you wish, and you will receive the reward that goes with it." This is much stronger than man-made laws which say, "Do this or else."
Now look at our shining jewel. It is a valuable one because it teaches valuable lessons in economics, and they are principles, by the way, which have stood the test of time.
First of all, it utterly outshines the socialistic imitation which says, "The state shall take the fruit of your labor and administer it equally to all men." It outshines it because of one important element. It is the element of happiness which is missing in all socialistic paste imitations. In every one of the verses cited in this study, happiness is the result. And I am not referring to the emotion that comes from having your physical needs met. This is satisfaction for the moment, but happiness is deeper and more valuable. It comes as a result of freedom. Here's how it works. If I am free to work as much as I please, to reap as much as I please, to dispense with my fruit as I please, to enjoy the fruit of my own labors, to give to my neighbor in want, then I will enjoy the result: a happy life.
A happy life, then, will be a giving life. This meets the needs of my unfortunate neighbor and makes my own life overflow with the warm kind of joy that is the product of such giving. Will you pardon me if I cannot become enthusiastic over socialistic programs that involve compulsory "giving" in the form of high taxes to pressure groups that never fully meet the wants of those who cry for help? Thank you, but I have found a better plan.
This plan, which I learn from King David, and believe to be God's plan, is vibrant with the heart-warming values of the good life He is trying to teach. Of course, I have to fight greed and selfishness, but that puts iron in the soul and makes life worth the living when we taste a bit of victory now and then. May I look for the injured traveler along life's road. May I stop, bind up his wounds, care for his needs, and pay the bill out of the surplus I have been able to accumulate as the result of the labor of my own hands. Then only will I feel the glow of satisfaction that results from learning God's lessons in economics which form for me a pattern of life that gives me an incentive to labor that much the harder.

Blood Moons - They were signs and wonders. (Post by Warren Marcus from Facebook.)

Blood Moons
- They were signs and wonders.

Warren Marcus Sept. 28, 2015 Facebook post
Charlotte, NC

The BLOOD MOON appeared yesterday as a sign and wonder. the FACT is that the nation to the NORTH - RUSSIA is now in the MIDDLE EAST. They didn't come with their armies - YET - but to fight ISIS. They have become the diplomatic heroes - not AMERICA (our President Abdicated that) - but frankly I don't trust him. Some in the church are scoffing or mocking Rabbi Jonathan Cahn and his warning of the SHEMITAH. They are saying so what is the big deal concerning the BLOOD MOONS?

The truth is AMERICA is under judgment warning NOW. Our economy is fragile with CHINA being heavily invested in our economy. The bottom has dropped out on their economy. There is great instability in the entire world economy. The socialistic policies of BIG GOVERNMENT that America has adopted through OBAMA and the LEFT leaves us with a PIPER who will be coming to be paid for the PARTY we have been celebrating.
The MIDDLE EAST is highly unstable - ISIS and other ISLAMIC SECTS are in war and political positioning against one another. BUT all of ISLAM is against ISRAEL and all other nations who do not embrace their FALSE RELIEGION and false god of allah. YHWH and allah are not the same. YHWH - the GOD of ISRAEL is the ONE TRUE GOD - the rte is no other. And YESHUA is His only begotten SON - the true MESSIAH, ADONAI and HIGH PRIEST.

The RUAH HaKODESH (the Holy Spirit) is the third person of the ELOHIM. SHEMA ISREAL ADONAI (YEHOVAH) ELOHEYNU ADONAI (YEHAOVAH) ECHOD. It means: "Hear oh Israel YHWH is ELOHIM (plural name of GOD - Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and YHWH is ONE (ECHOD meaning - the three persons being ONE.
The only HOPE is in our embracing YESHUA (Jesus) as our Messiah, LORD and High Priest. Our only hope is in HIS return and the establishment of YHWH's KINGDOM on the earth. The Appointed Times - the Fall Hebrew Feasts which are YHWH's Appointed Times will be literally fulfilled and speak forth of YESHUA's return with the FATHER. The church is SPLIT sharply between two basic different END TIME VIEWS.

Those who understand that YESHUA (Jesus) hasn't yet fulfilled all of the PROPHECIES contained in the Holy Scriptures (the Old Testament) and those who are replacement theology proponents who embrace either FULL or PARTIAL PRETERISM. The Preterists believe that either all opt a major part of the Book of Revelation has been already fulfilled. In other words this is it FOLKS the KINGDOM of GOD is here - Jesus has come - not in the FLESH but in the BODY of MESSIAH (His Church).

So enjoy GOD'S KINGDOM on earth because this is IT - aren't things marvelous. WHAT HERESY. There were those who denied the MESSIAH YESHUA (Jesus the Messiah) came in the flesh but rather came as a spiritual being. the BIBLE clearly tells us that this is the spirit of anti-christ.

1 John 4:2-3.... "Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world."

To deny that YESHUA (Jesus) came literally in the flesh - not in some spiritual way or as an apparition is the premise here. NOW I SHARE A TRUTH from HEAVEN that YHWH is revealing to us today. THOSE WHO DENY THAT YESHUA WILL COME BACK AGAIN IN THE FLESH (not in some spiritual way - or as an apparition) THOSE PEOPLE ALSO HAVE THE "SPIRIT OF ANTI CHRIST.

The disciples stood on the Mount of Olives and watched YESHUA as he ascended bodily into the clouds. And they were told clearly that HE will come again in the exact same manner as HE went up.

ACTS 1:9-11.... "Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “'Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.'”

The religious leaders of my people Israel (the Jewish people) rejected YESHUA as Messiah because HE didn't come as KING MESSIAH and HE didn't bring to pass the prophetic scripture that will be fulfilled when HE returns as KING of KINGS. How will we know? The prophetic scriptures speak of a CHANGE in the very atmosphere where thew GLORY of YHWH will literally bring about a restoration of the Atmosphere that existed before the FALL of MAN in the Garden of Eden. This is something no MAN or any of us corporately as the Body of Messiah could usher in ourselves.

The beasts of the field will no longer kill one another - they will be transforms into eating vegetation. Poisonous snakes will not bite children as they play with them. There will be perfect peace on the earth, no more sickness, murder, death, tears or pain. I'm sorry, we in the Body of Messiah are to proclaim that we can spiritually be a part of YHWH's Spirtual Kingdom on earth now but we will also be a part of when YESHUA (Jesus) brings the Kingdom of YHWH on the earth - Heaven literally ascending with the GLORy of the FATHER HIMSELF bringing a change in the Atmosphere and then ALL THINGS will become NEW.

Isaiah 2:4N

He shall judge between the nations,
And rebuke many people;
They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
And their spears into pruning hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore. ------------------

And there is more...... REVELATION 21:2-8 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me,[b] “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”

And He said to me, “It is done, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things,[d] and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Isaac is warned that despite the famine in the Land of Israel, he is not to escape the tough economic times by going down to Egypt. Though Abraham went down to Egypt when there was a plague in Israel and Jacob likewise descended to Egypt towards the end of his life, God told Isaac not to leave the Land. Due to his unique spiritual status, Isaac remained the only forefather to have never stepped foot outside of the Holy Land. The Letters of Jonathan Netanyahu

On July 4, 1976, a team of Israeli commandos stormed Entebbe airport. Their leader was thirty-year-old Lieutenant-Colonel Jonathan (Yoni) Netanyahu, brother of Israel's current Prime Minister. Their mission was to free 106 hostages held by international terrorists. An hour later, the hostages were safely on their way home, and Yoni had fallen in the battle for their lives. His legend was born that day. This book, containing his eloquent, passionate, revealing letters, gives a glimpse into the mind of a modern-day Israeli warrior and honors his sacrifice for the Land of Israel.

Charismatic Catholics Find Ally in Pope Francis

John Jessup, CBN News

Charismatic Catholics Find Ally in
Pope Francis

PHILADELPHIA-- In the same arena where the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers play on ice, thousands of worshippers met to pray for the fire of the Holy Spirit.
On the surface, it appeared to be a typical charismatic worship service. But this gathering was entirely unique. It consisted wholly of charismatic Catholics.
"We need the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is here," said Mary Cruz, who traveled 13 hours from Toronto, Canada for Mass at the Gathering of the Renewal. "Charismatics are here to set the world on fire."
Once seen as peculiar, even among fellow Catholics, charismatic Catholics have found an ally in Pope Francis. He has even invited them to the Vatican to celebrate Pentecost in 2017, which also marks the 50th anniversary of this spirit-filled movement, called the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
However, traditional Catholics have criticized the pope's work among Evangelicals. Some have even accused him of apostasy for allowing a group of Pentecostal pastors to pray for him at a prayer gathering in Buenos Aires not long before he was elected pontiff.
Spirit-filled church leaders say his aim is to build bridges with a movement that "bears good fruit" -- at a time when the family and traditional values are under attack.
"When the Pentecostals laid hands on him, that wasn't anything to do with what we think of as sacrilegious, it was just a fraternal brotherly gesture," explained Michelle Moran, president of the International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services. "I think it's part of his prophetic nature that he challenges the boundaries with us because he always gets us to think outside the box. It's one of the gifts of his pontificate."
Christine de Vollmer is a leader in the Catholic Church whose work promoting families has led her to build strong ties with evangelicals across Latin America and the United States. She views the intersection of their Christian faith and work as a supernatural alliance.
"We're all brothers and sisters in this fight," de Vollmer told CBN News. "To see the Catholic Church really understand that these are our allies, that [is] beautiful."
The reach across denominational lines includes CBN, which was invited by Vatican officials to share Superbook at an exhibit at the World Meeting of Families.
Justin Murff, who serves as an envoy to the Vatican for CBN, believes the burgeoning interest is opening new doors to work with the Catholic Church by providing Superbook as a tool for religious education for young Catholic children.
So far, it appears to be a hit. Murff and his team handed out a thousand free DVD's of "The Last Supper" to attendees within 20 minutes.
"These were priests, these were nuns, these were religious education teachers, teachers in public schools who said I want to give them to my kids and took five, ten, fifteen of them. So, it's amazing to see the impact that [Superbook] had."
It is that kind of impact Catholics and Christian charismatics hope will strengthen families and change the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

3 Ways God May Be Speaking to You Right Now by Becky Dvorak

3 Ways God May Be Speaking to You Right Now by Becky Dvorak

Identity Network

Faith hears into the realm of the supernatural. A well-trained spiritual ear will hear and know the voice of the Lord. Jesus says in John 10:27, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." Notice He says that His sheep, not the lambs, hear His voice and follow Him.
What is the difference between sheep and lambs? Maturity. And it is mature faith that hears and recognizes the voice of the Shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord, and will follow Him.
Spiritually speaking, maturity doesn't necessarily come with time or age. There are many in Christ who have been redeemed for many years, but yet they can only handle the milk and not the meat of the Word. They have to be bottle-fed, and are unable or unwilling to feed their own faith. Why? Carnality.  Unless we die to our sinful nature and selfish desires we cannot develop spiritually, and our spiritual senses, such as our ability to hear His voice, are stunted.
How can We hear the Lord?
There are several ways that we hear the Lord speak to us.
  • Through His Word.
  • Through the inner voice.
  • Through an audible voice.
When we move out of religious duty and into actual relationship with the Lord, He will communicate with us while we fellowship with Him in His Word. It says in Psalm 119:105,"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
The inner voice is another way the Spirit speaks with us and is found in Isaiah 30:21: "Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, 'This is the way, walk in it,' whenever you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left." This is one of the more common ways that He speaks to us.
I was traveling with a friend on a train in a foreign country and as we were chatting I heard the Lord say to me through the inner voice, "The man sitting across from you is following you." My friend was unaware what the Lord has just spoken to me. As she continued to speak, I looked up and sure enough this man had been following us.
He also will speak to us at times with an audible voice as He spoke to Moses in the burning bush (see Ex. 3:4). On different occasions the Lord has awakened me from my sleep by audibly whispering my name, "Becky." I can physically feel the breath of His voice in my ear, giving me clear instruction on what I am to do at that moment or revealing to me in the supernatural realm things that are taking place.
Recognizing the Voice of the Lord
In 1 Samuel 3 we read about a young boy named Samuel who can hear a voice calling out to him, but he does not recognize the voice speaking to him. It takes the maturity of Eli to teach him who is calling out to him and how to respond to the voice of the Lord.
It is of utmost importance that we train our spiritual ears to hear and recognize the voice of the Lord. To do so we must know the Word of God. The more we know the Word, the more we understand Him and His ways and we can protect ourselves from voices that would mislead us. The Lord will never compromise His Word. This is important when we learn to recognize His voice. Jesus says in Matthew 13:9, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"
There are three sources of voice that could possibly speak to our spiritu al ears.
  • The voice of God
  • The voice of Satan
  • The voice of human reasoning
The voice of God is always honorable and faithful to the Word of God. It releases freedom to the hearer and never compromises the Word. In Hebrews 4:12 it says, "For the word of God is alive, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intents of the heart."
In John 8:32 Jesus says, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free."
The voice of Satan is deceiving; it twists the Word of God just enough to make it sound appealing and accepting to the human flesh. In John 8:44b Jesus says concerning Satan: "He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies."
The voice of our human reasoning is based upon our five senses and our emotions and is limited to human intellect. It says in Proverbs 28:26a, "He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but whoever walks wisely will be delivered."
A mature spiritual ear hears and knows the voice of our Lord; it protects us from misguiding voices and is trained to follow after the will of the Spirit of God in all situations.
To learn more about the senses of our faith read my book Greater Than Magic.
