A growing number of young Arabic-speaking Christians are volunteering to serve in the Israeli army. Some even want their service to be mandatory, as it is for Jews. But there are some elements in Arab Christian society that remain hostile to this phenomenon.

That was the experience of a young Arabic-speaking Christian who spoke to Israel’s Mako news portal. Identified only as “Y” for his own safety, the young man recounted how his family and friends urged him not to join the IDF, and how his insistence on doing so earned him death threats and a physical beating.

“I knew I was going to pay a heavy price. Most of my friends cut off contact with me,” said Y, who signed up to serve in the Bedouin Reconnaissance Battalion, and has since started a course to become a combat medic.

“The few times I got home, I received death threats from various people who live and work in my neighborhood,” he continued. “They were outraged that I was walking around in uniform and serve in a combat unit.”

During a recent visit to his hometown of Haifa, Y was physically assaulted by a passerby. “He punched me just because I was wearing a uniform. He told me, ‘You and your friends are traitors.’ It’s scary. Next time it could end in murder,” said the shaken young man.

Due to the situation, Y has petitioned the army to allow him to travel in civilian clothing. But until permission is granted, he is forced to spend most weekends at a soldiers’ boarding house to avoid physical violence, or worse.

June 23, 2016: The Brexit Vote Could Change EVERYTHING And Plunge Europe Into Financial Chaos

On June 23rd, a vote will be held in the United Kingdom to determine if Britain will stay in the European Union or not. This is most commonly known as the “Brexit” vote, and that term was created by combining the words “Britain” and “exit”. If the UK votes to stay in the European Union, things over in Europe will continue on pretty much as they have been. But if the UK votes to leave, it will likely throw the entire continent into a state of economic and financial chaos. And considering how bad the European economy is already, this could be the trigger that plunges Europe into a full-blown depression.

So if things will likely be much worse in the short-term if Britain leaves the EU, then it makes sense for everyone to vote to stay, right?

Unfortunately, it isn’t that simple. Because this choice is not about short-term economics. Rather, the choice is about long-term freedom.

The EU is a horribly anti-democratic bureaucratic monstrosity that is suffocating the life out of most of Europe a little bit more with each passing year. So if I was British, I would most definitely be voting to leave the EU.

And in recent days, the campaign to leave has been rapidly picking up steam. In fact, two of the latest major surveys show that “leave” has taken the lead…

An ORB poll for the Telegraph showed 48 percent of Britons would vote to remain in the European Union, while 49 percent would vote to leave.
A YouGov poll for the Times of London showed 46 percent preferred to leave, while 39 percent wanted to remain.

Two other recent polls have “leave” ahead by 10 points, and there is another that actually has “leave” winning by 19 points.

The “leave” movement got a big boost just recently when the Sun officially endorsed that position. The following is an excerpt from the editorial that announced this decision…

WE are about to make the biggest political decision of our lives. The Sun urges everyone to vote LEAVE.
We must set ourselves free from dictatorial Brussels.
Throughout our 43-year membership of the European Union it has proved increasingly greedy, wasteful, bullying and breathtakingly incompetent in a crisis.
Next Thursday, at the ballot box, we can correct this huge and historic mistake.
It is our last chance. Because, be in no doubt, our future looks far bleaker if we stay in.

I must say that I agree entirely with the Sun. However, everyone needs to understand that a Brexit would be incredibly painful for the UK and for the rest of Europe in the short-term. I think that Ambrose Evans-Pritchard of the Telegraph made this point very well in his recent column…

Let there be no illusion about the trauma of Brexit. Anybody who claims that Britain can lightly disengage after 43 years enmeshed in EU affairs is a charlatan or a dreamer, or has little contact with the realities of global finance and geopolitics.

So what could we potentially see happen?

Well, for one thing big banks like Morgan Stanley are warning that the euro and the British pound could take big hits…

The pound and the euro will be hit on a Leave vote, but even if Britain decides to stay in the EU, there will be only “modest gains.” Morgan Stanley expects the pound “to weaken immediately on a vote to Leave, but by year-end we think Euro could weaken even more.”

Secondly, there is a very strong probability that financial markets all over Europe could horribly crash, and the European Central Bank and the Bank of England are already promising to provide artificial support for the markets if that happens. The following comes from Reuters…

The European Central Bank would publicly pledge to backstop financial markets in tandem with the Bank of England should Britain vote to leave the European Union, officials with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.
The preparations illustrate the heightened state of alert ahead of the June 23 referendum, which will help determine Britain’s future in trade and world affairs and also shape the EU. The pound and euro have lost value on fears a Brexit could tip the 28-member bloc into recession.
Such an announcement from the ECB would come on June 24 if an early-morning result showed that British voters had chosen to leave the EU, according to the sources.

But no matter what the consequences are, British voters should do what is right for their future and for the future of their children.

If that means leaving the EU, then so be it.

Needless to say, the prospect of “leave” winning has many among the European elite in full-blown panic mode. For instance, just consider what the current chairman of the Bilderberg Group is saying…

Just day after their mysterious annual meeting in Dresden, it appears The Bilderberg Group’s gravest concern is Brexit. While everything from The Middle East to Donald Trump was on the agenda, the remarks this week from AXA CEO (and Chairman of The Bilderberg Group) Henri de Castries that there is an “extremely high” probability that the U.K. will vote to leave the European Union and investors will face “a true landscape of uncertainties,” suggest the establishment is concerned.

If you are not familiar with the Bilderberg Group, please see my recent article on them. Certainly the potential of a coming “Brexit” was high on the list of priorities during their recent conference, and it has been documented that the Bilderberg Group played a key role in the creation of the European Union in the first place. So of course they are not exactly pleased that their grand experiment may now be unraveling right in front of their eyes.

Meanwhile, even without taking into account a potential “Brexit” things just continue to steadily get worse over in Europe. On Tuesday, European stocks hit their lowest levels since the stock market crash that ended in February, and the stocks of both Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse hit all-time record lows…

The truth is that those extremely prominent European banks are headed for a collapse even without a “Brexit”. But if there is a “leave” vote, that will just accelerate the process.
And let us not forget that major stock indexes all over Europe are already in a bear market…

Meanwhile, German stocks are in a bear-market, with the DAX down 23.2% from its April 2015 peak. The French CAC 40 is down 21.8%. The Spanish Ibex 35 and the Italian MIB are down 31.4% and 32.6% respectively.

Here in the United States, the smart money is dumping stocks like crazy right now, and major investors such as George Soros are feverishly buying gold.

So why are these things happening?

Do those “in the know” have some information regarding what is about to happen over in Europe?

For a long time, I have been sounding the alarm about Europe. If the British people vote to stay in the European Union on June 23rd, the crisis in Europe will certainly continue to escalate, it will just be at a slower pace. But if the British people vote to leave (which they should) that could be the trigger that changes everything.

I don’t know exactly what is going to happen on the 23rd, but without a doubt we should all be watching the outcome very, very closely…

Although I've never done this before, I am ready to come clean on this year's politics. In my entire life I've never witnessed such an interesting presidential campaign. I favor Donald Trump for our next president. Yes, I'm an evangelical Christian and I was encouraged to see that in the South Carolina primary, Trump took the evangelical vote. So I'm not the only one.

We are dealing with the office of the president of the USA. OK, what about the USA? I have logged 85 years as a citizen of the USA, and I have never been so discouraged about our nation. We are in dire straights. I believe that much of America's malady has been caused over the years by the establishment politics of both parties in Washington, D.C. How do we get out of this quagmire? We elect another establishment politician who will deliver business as usual? Or by trying someone whose life has been business before politics, who finances his own campaign, and who is beholden to no one in Washington? That would be Donald Trump.

Some say that Trump is not an evangelical Christian, so how could an evangelical like me vote for him? I wish he didn't have a history of multiple marriages. I wish he knew the Bible better. I wish he would go to church more regularly. I wish he would tone down his profanity. But none of those qualities would make or break a president who could make or break our country. Many evangelicals voted for Sunday school teacher Jimmy Carter because of his spirituality only to end up with a disaster. God is not limited to using Christians to accomplish His purposes. We need only to recall Cyrus, the idolatrous king of Persia, whom God used to help get His people back to Jerusalem.

Let me point out that influence is related to spirituality in the Religion Mountain, but this is not true in any of the other six mountains that are the molders of culture. The chief producer of influence in the six non-Religion mountains is not spirituality but success. The most successful people are the most influential. Success? In the Business Mountain and the Media Mountain Trump has accumulated $8-10 billion. He knows how to influence. I want to vote for a commander-in-chief, not a bishop-in-chief.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I believe that Trump has the qualities necessary to "make America great once again," as he would say. Voting for him is a calculated risk, but at this junction of history it is a risk well-taken. Nothing will change if we vote for the status quo. Let's step out. Let's put someone different in the White House.

In my daily Bible reading I have been appreciating the life of David, and how there is so much for us to be encouraged by how he did it. Even in those times when David was being chased by King Saul, who was out to kill him, David was learning to communicate with the Lord. Getting the basics down would be instrumental in his entire walk, as he himself went on to become the anointed king of Israel.

When I consider my own walk with the Lord, I appreciate the times when I myself inquire of the Lord, to ask Him what His plan is, what He would want me to do, or how I should consider that situation before me. When I do seek Him, He does respond. In His time and place, which all the time is at the exact time needed.

Even a simple ask, like “What now Lord?” will bring a response from Him. It may come in the form of a word from a friend or family member. He may choose to give us a dream. A specific word can come through the prophetic gift being exercised, speaking into our need through another that we may not even know. Or He may direct you to a Bible passage, enlightening a written Scripture in your own daily reading that speaks to your spirit.

Having that relationship with the Lord, of simple communication, shouldn’t be an odd thing. Nor should communicating with Him be an occasional thought, or only when we get in desperate situations. If we make it one of our foundational stones, to know His voice, it will be a natural thing to ask, listen, hear and respond accordingly. The Holy Spirit after all was promised to us to be as our Helper, given to abide with us always.

I can recall times when I felt I didn’t need to inquire of the Lord. After all, I was old enough to know what to do, right? And yes, at a later point, it could have saved me a lot of trouble if I had. Lesson learned.

“Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand all.” (Proverbs 28:5, NKJV)

In these times of trouble, it is vital that we are comfortable in asking the Lord His thoughts on subjects, and what His heart is. The voices we hear of the many others giving their opinions can drown out the truth, so we need to be able to discern His voice, and abide in His presence.

Have you inquired of the Lord lately? Now may be as good a time as any.

Israel has made history at the United Nations.

For the first time since its inception into the organization in 1949, Israel was elected on Monday to head a UN Legal Committee. Specifically, the Sixth Committee, which manages such issues as legal questions and fighting global terrorism. As Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon will chair the committee for the upcoming UN General Assembly (GA), reported The Times of Israel.

“I am proud to be the first Israeli elected to this position,” said Ambassador Danon upon his win. “Israel is a world leader in international law and in fighting terrorism. We are pleased to have the opportunity to share our knowledge with the countries of the world.”

The Western European and Others Group (WEOG) in the UN, whose turn it was to pick a chairman for the committee, nominated Danon for the job. Among the WEOG’s pro-Israel countries are Australia, Canada, and the United States. In 2000, Israel became a temporary member of the WEOG and joined permanently in December 2013.

According to The Times of Israel, the chair positions of the GA’s main committees are appropriated on a rotational basis and are typically confirmed without need for a vote. But in this particular case, Yemen, on behalf of the Arab Group, challenged Israel’s nomination and demanded a vote be held.

Despite months of behind-the-scenes diplomatic struggles and ferocious anti-Israel campaigning, however, 109 nations voted in favor of Danon’s appointment. (The election process only included votes that were cast for the particular candidate and did not include ‘nay’ votes.) The election was held via secret ballot in which all 193 members of the UN could vote.

“We will not allow dictatorships and anti-Israel countries to harm our standing in the international community,” said Danon. “We are a full member of the UN and any attempt to deny us of our legal rights in this organization will be met with uncompromising rejection.”

Ambassador Danon’s election received widespread support among many of the UN’s member states, led by the US and European countries, according to Ynet. Some of his supporters even took to social media to wish the Ambassador congratulations.

How Will the Holy Spirit Prompt Christians to Respond to the Orlando Massacre?

All of America, and especially those of us who live in Orlando, are reeling from the massacre at the nightclub on Saturday night.

When I moved here 43 years ago, I never envisioned this growing, family-oriented city would be the scene of the worst mass shooting in our nation's history.

I came here as a reporter with the Orlando Sentinel. When I awoke last Sunday morning and saw some of the reports from the Sentinel, I thought about how if I still had been covering the police beat as I did years ago, it would have been my job to cover this story in the middle of the night.

On Monday, I learned that the daughter of one of my staff and couple of her friends had been at the nightclub and left about 1:30 a.m., shortly before the carnage began. That brings it close to home!

I talked to a pastor who had five people in his church who knew someone in the club. A young man who had been in the club and escaped came to the altar Sunday morning.

By phone, I talked to another pastor who was literally in the hospital with the families of some of the victims as they were told what had happened to their loved ones. He and others from his church prayed with those who wanted prayer and tried to minister however they could. This included forming a human shield in order to avoid the media when the family members had to go to their cars.

Media are crawling all over Orlando looking for a story. The main north-south street in Orlando, Orange Ave, is blocked off. Earlier today, I could not drive down Orange Avenue when I was in that part of town. I could see the huge satellite dishes down the street as I turned at the detour.

When my wife and I were first married, we lived about a mile from where the carnage too place.

Several of the city's Christian leaders met Monday morning to talk about the proper Christian response to the tragedy. I discovered plans were already in place, including a memorial service this morning at Rollins College and a prayer gathering at First Baptist Church of Orlando Tuesday night. Christians are only now beginning to figure out what's going on and asking themselves the question, "how do we respond?"

In a way, it reminds me of when Trayvon Martin was killed in nearby Sanford in 2012. After that made national news, it took the Christian community a week or so to determine how to respond. Today, I reminded the group of the way Christian leaders came together in Sanford to help provide healing as well as avert what could have been a very sad and volatile situation.

Of course, the circumstances here are entirely different. The controversial Sanford incident was the tragic death of one young man. The Orlando shooting was a massacre carried out by an Islamic extremist who reportedly called 911 shortly before the shooting began to let everyone know of his allegiance to ISIS so that there would no confusion as to why he did this or what he was trying to achieve.

We are at war with extreme Islamic terrorists. Yet our president and others on the left try to make these terror acts sound as if they are the actions of "lone wolf," misguided and mentally disturbed extremists who aren't a part of a bigger plot. And they try to say it has to do with gun control. But France has very strict gun control, and look what happened there. This is a debate that will go on for a long time. We have to wonder how often terrorism has to occur and how many have to die before our nation wakes up to what's truly happening.

Many Muslims are peaceful, including a couple of families who live on my street. They are basically liberal Muslims who don't adhere to a strict understanding of Islam's doctrine, which includes world domination and the establishment of a Caliphate. I saw news today that Omar Mateen was a "soldier of the Caliphate in America."

While the politicians mull over policies on how to contain ISIS and how to protect our citizens, the Christian community has to respond in love.

Our city and segments of the nation are grieving and have to process this and understand exactly what it means. And we must do as the Bible says, " ... to grieve with those who grieve" (Rom. 12:15).

I ask that you pray for the families and friends who lost loved ones.

Pray for me and other leaders as we discern what the Holy Spirit is saying about how to respond.
