Tearing Down the Obstacles Blocking Your God-Given Dream by Teresa Shields Parker - Identity Network

Tearing Down the Obstacles Blocking Your God-Given Dream by Teresa Shields Parker

Identity Network Aug. 25, 2017
God has amazing dreams for us, but many of us live our entire lives not coming close to reaching those. As I think about this, I see we fall into three categories:
Those who are just afraid to dream.

Those who understand their dreams but they seem unreachable.
Those who reach their dreams.
I have fallen in all three categories, but without a doubt, the third category is the most satisfying. What we really want is to be satisfied, but that comes with its own challenges, doesn't it?
Scaredy-Cats
An icebreaker question I use in get-acquainted sessions is to share one dream you'd like to see fulfilled in your lifetime. I'm always amazed at how many people can't come up with even one.
When they get down to the bottom line, they usually say, "The truth is I'm afraid to dream, because it might not come true, and then I'd be devastated. I'd rather just be comfortable where I am."
Satisfaction, in this case, is settling for what life deals us. That means we choose to be comfortable living without making a difference. We have allowed the evil one to fulfill his mission of stealing, killing or destroying our God-given influence in the world (John 10:10).
This group usually has dreams, but they don't see them as being something God wants for them. The truth is, God saw us before we were born. Every day of our lives was recorded in His book. Every moment was laid out before a single day of our lives came to pass (Ps. 139:16).
Rocket-to-Mars Guys
I heard about a think-tank type who has a dream of building a rocket to Mars and colonizing the planet. We may not have such lofty dreams, but this man, who is head of a company, actually has resources to at least begin planning a way to make it happen.
Your dream may not be that lofty, but let's just suppose he begins to plan and never makes the dream happen. Has he failed? Not if he's left careful research notes for others to follow.
The dream God put inside you may not be reachable in your lifetime, but it may still be a dream that God has placed in your heart. We should not dismiss those ideas that flit across our mind. They may be God-dreams to fulfill something in the lifetime of one who comes after us.
"God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams. He does it not by pushing us around, but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us" (Eph. 3:20a, MSG).
The Diligent Workers
We see in the parable of the talents that a company owner who was going on a trip gave some talents or money to three of his employees (Matt. 25:14-20). To one he gave $5000, the other $2,000 and the third $1,000.
The first two doubled their money, but the third hid the money and returned it to the owner. We all know the owner gave the third employee's money to the one who risked the most and basically fired the third employee.
Did the first employee reach his dream? Maybe or maybe not. But what the owner did was reward that one's diligence, his ability to see beyond the current situation and reach further. In doing so, God said, "OK, now do it again with this money."
How to Reach Your Dream
Reaching a God-given dream seems hard, but it's really simple. God put dreams inside of us. We just need to realize that and cooperate with Him to make them come to pass. The worst thing we can do is dismiss them because someone tells us we can never do them or if we do we can never make a living working at them.
I was told by several adults when I was growing up that I could never make money writing books. I remembered that this April when I had to tally up what I'd made in books sales to give to my tax accountant. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a consistent income. Not yet enough to live on, but enough to debunk the lie that was told to me when I was deciding on a career.
Being an author was a dream God placed in my heart long before there was a real way for me to accomplish that dream. I clearly see how He led me to get to the place where I finally made the leap into God's dreamland.
There are three simple steps to reach a dream. I say simple because they are no-brainer practical ways to go step-by-step and allow God to bring your dream into fruition. These are the same steps many whom we see as dream-reachers began with. By the way, these came from my mentor.
Do what you love.
Find a way to make money doing that.
Live within that budget.
What's the Problem?
Simple, right? So why isn't everyone doing it? It has to do with that pesky word satisfied. We think we won't be satisfied living within that budget.
However, if we start there, things will only blossom and increase when and if we are doing what we love. What do we love? We love the dream that God put in our hearts.
So how do we do it? How do we reach the impossible dream? Learn the secret of contentment."I have learned in whatever state I am to be content. I know both how to face humble circumstances and how to have abundance. Everywhere and in all things I have learned the secret, both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things because of Christ who strengthens me" (Phil. 4:11-13, MEV).
We have to learn that we will never be satisfied with things, especially comfort foods. (You knew I had to get that in there somewhere.)  We will only be satisfied with the true abundance God brings into our lives.
What is your dream? What obstacles are in your way of fulfilling your dream? What is one step you can take today towards that dream?

The Prophetic Impact of This Year's Teshuvah Season—Part 2 - KELLY MCDONALD JR. CHARISMA NEWS

The Hebrew word translated as "return" in Jeremiah 30:3 (above) is "shuv." (Wikimedia Commons)
As reviewed in Part 1 of this series, we are entering into the season of Teshuvah. It is the season of turning unto the Lord to seek His perfect will for our lives. It also has a powerful prophetic meaning!
One of the signs of the end times is the return of Israel and Judah to the promised land. "For surely the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will restore the fortunes of My people Israel and Judah. The Lord says, I also will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it" (Jer. 30:3, emphasis mine).
The season of Teshuvah prophetically corresponds to the rest of God's people returning back to the land! The Hebrew word translated as "return" in Jeremiah 30:3 (above) is shuv. This shuv began in the late 1940s with the establishment of the state of Israel. This past week, the chief rabbi of Barcelona declared that Europe was lost! He is calling for Jewish people in Europe to return to Israel. This current event is a reminder of God's promise.
The return or teshuvah of God's people to the promised land will come to completion just before Jesus returns. Our Messiah left earth, but He is going to shuv or return to win the battle of Armageddon. Teshuvah has a prophetic meaning that we cannot overlook. Jesus is going to gather all the children of Israel and Judah, whereever they may be scattered on the face of the earth.
"At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back (shuv) your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord" (Zeph. 3:20, KJV).
"Thus saith the Lord; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the Lord; and they shall come again (shuv) from the land of the enemy." (Jer. 31:16)
"Thus saith the Lord; I am returned (shuv) unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the Lord of hosts the holy mountain." (Zech. 8:3)
As we honor the season of Teshuvah, let us also look forward to God's people returning back to the land promised to Abraham!

When the Fig Tree Blossoms - Charles Gardner ISRAEL TODAY

When the Fig Tree Blossoms

Friday, August 25, 2017 |  Charles Gardner  ISRAEL TODAY
While spending time in north London looking after my mum again this summer, I was once again inspired by the verdant overhanging fig tree almost blocking my path as I walked (and ran) around Hampstead.
Laden with ripening fruit, it was another reminder of one of the most significant events of our time, largely missed by most people – including Christians – I’m afraid.
In speaking to his disciples about Israel’s restoration and of his coming back to reign on earth, Jesus indicated that one of the signs of his imminent return was “when the fig tree blossoms…” (Matthew 24.32f) The fig tree is a biblical symbol of Israel.
There is a lot of talk in church circles these days of a coming revival of fervent Christianity. There is certainly a need for one, and I pray it will happen. In fact my understanding is that, along with much trouble and strife, there will be revival in the last days because Joel prophesied of how the Spirit would be poured out on all flesh (Joel 2.28). That was partly fulfilled at Pentecost of course, but its final fulfillment is yet to come, although Asia, Africa, the Far East and South America have already witnessed great outpourings of heavenly rain in recent decades.
But who in the church is preparing for the great revival prophesied for Israel? God has not forgotten them, nor has he replaced them with the Church as some preachers suggest. He has made an everlasting covenant with Israel – with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their descendants.  Covenants are not meant to be broken; a disciple of Christ who expects God to go back on his word has completely misunderstood his character! If Israel is cut off from God because of unfaithfulness, what chance has the Church with all her backsliding over the centuries – especially in terms of persecution of the Jewish people? No, God will never reject his chosen ones. “Only if the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done,” declares the Lord. (Jer 31.37)
Even the New Covenant spoken of by Jeremiah is not addressed particularly to the Church, as you might think from the context in which it is used over Christmas. No, it is with Israel that the Lord promised a new covenant, when he will put his law in their minds and write it on their hearts – and they will all know him. (Jer 31.31-34) Earlier in the same chapter, he declares his “everlasting love” with his chosen people whom he vows to restore – to their land, which would once more become fruitful, and to their Lord, who says: “I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.” (v13)
If only the Church would take a closer look at Israel, they would be so much better informed and live with much greater hope, for the Jewish state is a mighty testament to our God’s great faithfulness and love. He entrusted the Jews with his word so that they could be a light to the Gentiles (Isaiah 49.6), but they broke his covenant, forsook his laws and turned to idols instead. Yet, just as the prophet Hosea kept faith with his adulterous wife, he never stopped loving them.
He brought them back to the Promised Land from every corner of the globe in perfect fulfilment of his word. Now almost half of world Jewry lives in re-born Israel, and more keep coming as anti-Semitism rears its ugly head once more in the nations to which they were dispersed for so long.
The Lord didn’t wait until they put things right. He honoured his promise and now waits patiently for the time when “they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest” (v34). As St Paul put it, the day will come when “all Israel shall be saved” (Romans 11.26), echoing the word of Zechariah speaking of the time when they will look on him whom they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only child (Zech 12.10).
Perhaps you look at the 200,000 people who marched through the streets of Tel Aviv in support of Gay Pride, and the fact that most of Israel’s population are secular in outlook. But don’t be blinded by that. See how the fig tree is blossoming: a nation has been rebuilt from a barren wasteland, now supplying the world with fruit and a global leader in technology, using their agricultural genius to help African and other countries, and even using their medical expertise to heal their ‘enemies’ as they tend to the wounds of Syrian soldiers wounded in the civil war that has been raging on their northern border.
But the real clue to their coming restoration is evidenced by the growing number of Messianic Jews – those who have recognised that Jesus (Yeshua in Hebrew) is indeed their Messiah. Despite the high price paid by Jewish believers in Jesus (being cut off from their families in many cases), they keep ‘coming home’, like the Prodigal Son – not only in Israel but throughout the world.
Yet the fig tree is still only a bud, a blossom. But it will soon be laden with fruit, like the one in Hampstead’s Spring Path.
The Church really does need to ‘watch’ Israel, especially the growth of Messianic Judaism, for it is key to the unfolding events leading up to the second coming of Christ. It is also key to understanding the lovingkindness, forbearance and longsuffering of our God, who watches over his word to see it fulfilled (Jer 1.12).
Sadly, many Christians can’t see what Israel has to do with them; they seem to forget they worship the God of Israel, which means in fact that it has everything to do with them. But if they only knew, for example, how Jews and Arabs are being reconciled through the cross (in accordance with Ephesians 2.14) and are worshipping together in many parts of Israel, their faith would be encouraged no end. For this surely underscores the truth that Jesus holds the answer to world peace.
Even on the war front, there are lessons to be learnt. The ongoing tension on the Temple Mount, for instance, needs to be understood more as a spiritual battle than a political conflict, representing on a grand scale what Christians are taught to expect in their individual lives.
Ignorance of Israel will leave your faith weakened while knowledge of Israel, even it its present largely unrepentant state, will edify your soul as you realise afresh that you can trust in the one and only Saviour of the world, for whom the Jewish people remain the apple of his eye (Deut 32.10, Zech 2.8).
Some date the budding of the fig tree from the year 1967, fifty years ago, when Israel recaptured the Old City of Jerusalem for the first time in 2,000 years, thereby ending (in the understanding of some) the ‘trampling down of Jerusalem by the Gentiles’ spoken of by our Lord (Luke 21.24). It’s an interesting point that 1967 is generally also regarded as the year the Messianic movement began in earnest, coinciding (as it happens) with the breakthrough of the Charismatic movement that brought a restoration of the gifts of the Holy Spirit to the old historic churches. The feast of Pentecost (known to Jews as Shavuot) is still seen in Israel as a celebration of the Law received by Moses, which of course is now ‘written on our hearts’ through the work of the Spirit in accordance with Ezekiel 36.26f. It seems that there is a ‘golden’ thread holding together this trinitarian truth.
So in this golden year of celebrations, make sure that ‘Jerusalem the Golden’ lightens up your understanding of the Scriptures and of God’s wonderful – though sometimes mysterious – ways.
