Why a Million Muslims Filled the Streets to Hear About Jesus, Right in the Heart of Radical Islam

DENVER, Colo. -- In an era where terrorists often target Christians and radical Islam is tainting peace-loving Muslims, one brave Christian evangelist is building bridges in places so dangerous, most travelers have written them off.

Well-known Bible teacher and evangelist Marilyn Hickey believes those dangerous places are fertile territory for planting seeds of love.

The founder of Marilyn Hickey Ministries recently told CBN News about her trip to Karachi, Pakistan.

"I love Muslims and they love me," Hickey said. "It's beyond my imagination that we would have one million in one meeting!"

But that's just what happened. A million Muslims filled the streets of Karachi to hear this 85-year-old grandmother share the good news about Jesus.

"People may not know your name but Jesus does," Hickey told the crowd.

We asked her how the people reacted to her message.

"They clap and they get excited. Oh, yes, He knows your name, where you are, who you are, has a plan and destiny for your life. I have my Bible, Psalm 139, 'He put you together' and He has a divine appointment and destiny for every human being," she said.

Dr. Hickey began her preaching in a small Denver church, which evolved into an international television ministry that is now reaching out to the Muslim world.

"Before all of this was such a mess, God spoke to me to pray for Muslim countries. I memorized 40 countries and prayed every day for four years or more. Then God started sending me there," she told us.

"I don't think we should watch the news but change the news," she added.

Hickey gives all the glory to Jesus, and through him she says her mass gatherings have seen countless miracles.

"This is a positive: the Koran says Jesus heals, so when you advertise and say come and be healed, they come to be healed," she said.

"Don't ask me why, they call me Mom. The Muslims call me the mother of Pakistan," Hickey said.

"That's God's favor, but I don't compromise. I tell how Jesus died for your sins, rose from dead. If you repent and believe that He will come into your heart. It is not a compromising message but a healing message for spirit, soul and body," she added.

Terrorists Burn Down Gospel TV Station

World Impact Ministries (WIM) received devastating news five days ago that terrorists had entered The Gawahi television channel in Karachi, Pakistan, and burned down offices. The team in Karachi had just finished filming the Christmas program and had left the studio at one in the morning. According to police, terrorists entered the building around 3 a.m., poured chemicals and set the building on fire.
William Sarfraz, WIM's representative and the director of Gawahi television, reported that he and all the staff were devastated beyond words, but grateful that no one had been hurt. Initially, it appeared that production and transmission would have to stop.
In the midst of the tragedy, God's favor can be seen, as Pakistan's largest television channel, GEO TV, has come to the aid. Production and transmission continues unabated through rented equipment. William continues, "the staff, myself and my family are more committed than ever to give the gospel to millions through media."
Here is the good news five days after the act of terror: Gawahi TV is still broadcasting 24/7 in the world's largest Muslim city. Terrorists burned down furniture, equipment, cameras and offices—but the fire for the gospel remains intact.
Peter Youngren responded immediately with a proposal that offices be moved to a more secure building, possibly a bank or hotel complex, with 24/7 security guards on duty. The local team in Karachi is now moving forward with this plan.
"At times like this we must remind ourselves that God is our source. We are in the middle of campaigns in Indonesia and West Africa, so this challenge comes at the worst of times, but our God is El Shaddai—more than enough. We are going forward and know that God will touch people's hearts to provide the necessary finances," Youngren commented.
World Impact Ministries carries 100 percent responsibility for the financing of this historical gospel television breakthrough in Karachi. Gawahi television is carried on basic cable reaching more than 23 million people in Pakistan. In spite of very poor circumstances where many believers are suffering, about 25 percent of the finances come from local Pakistani believers and the rest through supporters of World Impact Ministries.

Cross Rises in Pakistan City Hostile to Christians

Cross Rises in Pakistan City

Hostile to Christians

A giant cross is rising in a place where Christians often suffer persecution for their faith: Karachi, Pakistan.

The 140-foot cross stands at the entrance of a Christian cemetery in the center of the city. It's being built by Parvez Henry Gill, a Pakistani businessman who said the idea came to him in a dream.

"I want to show the world the Christian community in Pakistan has religious freedom," Gill said.

While some have criticized the cross, Gill said he "leaves that to God."

Pakistani Christians have faced church bombings and other attacks by Islamic terrorists.

In March, Taliban suicide bombers killed 15 people and injured nearly 80 others in the city of Lahore in eastern Pakistan. The group's spokesman vowed bombing attacks would continue until the government implements Sharia law.

In 2013, 80 people died when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives cache at the All Saints Church in the northern city of Peshwar.
