Is the Current State of Israel the Fulfillment of Biblical Prophecy? - SAM NADLER CHARISMA NEWS

Is the evolution of modern-day Israel the fulfillment of biblical prophecy?

Standing With Israel
Recently I was asked to be a guest on Dr. Michael Brown's radio show, "The Line of Fire," for "Thoroughly Jewish Thursday." As we discussed the topic of the day, "Why Support Israel?", one of the listeners, a Hasidic Rabbi, called in with some concerns.
Though surprising to some, Rabbi Benjamin's* viewpoint on the modern nation of Israel is one that is commonly held by many in the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish community. As I addressed this rabbi's concerns from the perspective of Scripture, I sought to point him to Israel's only hope in both the present and future: Yeshua the Messiah!
Our discussion went as follows:
Q: Hi Sam, my name is Benjamin* and I'm a Hasidic rabbi. From my understanding of a biblical perspective, today's state of Israel is a bastion of evil; a country filled with immorality. Also, Scripture also tells us not to awaken or arouse love before God desires. I don't believe in Jesus, but I'm waiting for Messiah to come. Until this happens, I see the existence of the state of Israel as being against what the Bible teaches. God sent us into exile to be a light to the nations, not to go and hide in one little part of the world. Israel is the Holy Land, but today it's filled with heresy and wickedness. And even if it wasn't, according to Scripture, it's just not the time yet for this return to the land.
A: Shalom, Rabbi Benjamin. I can certainly understand the point you make. Of course, the critical issue here is going to be Mashiach (Messiah); if what He tells us is true, and if how He interprets Torah is the way it is to be interpreted. In light of this, we see in Scripture that there is a twofold return of Israel: first, to the land (Ezek. 37), and second, to the Lord.
According to the prophet Daniel, we see that the Jewish people have to return to the land and make a bad deal with the anti-Messiah, a deceiver. Nonetheless, according to prophecy, the Jewish people return to the land prior to their national return to the Lord. Today, we see this falling into place according to prophetic Scripture.
I've been to Israel many times, and I see that the people there are simply sinful people, just like any of us. Certainly, these are ordinary people needing to hear about the extraordinary atonement in the Messiah that makes people right with God. We need to understand the simplicity and purity of faith in what God has done for us in the atonement that Messiah has made for us.
This is how we get right with God so we can then live a life to His honor; not merely a life that reflects the beautiful traditions of our people, but a life that brings God honor through our teshuvah (repentance), meekness, kindness and mercy. The very forgiveness we have received in Messiah, this is what we are called to share with the nations.
In other words, the message that our people were to bring to the nations was the message of Mashiach, the Good News of who Yeshua is and what He has done for us. This is vital for each one of us to deal with! We see the nation of Israel today with its failings and flaws, but none of us can throw the first stone.
All of us need to have sympathy and compassion, realizing that we each need to trust in Messiah individually and then pray for the peace of Jerusalem!

Tilt Your Head Up - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Tilt Your Head Up

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills — from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2 NKJV)

“Tilt your head up”, I heard the Voice softly say as I prayed.

As one normally does, I had my head bowed during my morning prayers, as I sat in my prayer chair in the corner of our home’s front room. I don’t recall that I was praying for anything real heavy at the time. But when He spoke, I also had the sensation of a father touching the chin of their child with their fingers, to lift their head in order to see into their eyes.

The Lord was telling me to look up; to see Him; to know that He was in full control.

“He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.” (Psalm 121:3-8 NKJV)

The Lord’s loving-kindness and compassion to us are new every morning, as Scripture tells us. His faithfulness, to hear every prayer, and to speak to our heart, is a promise for those who take the time to seek Him. Therefore we can have hope and trust in Him.

“The Lord's lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. "The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I have hope in Him." The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him. It is good that he waits silently for the salvation of the Lord.” (Lam 3:22-26, NASU)

We can easily get weighted down with the daily cares of the world. The day in, day out routine, which can be a grind at times, fills our soul with anxiety. We simply get worn out. That is one of the strategies of the enemy that opposes us. If we don’t stop and let the Lord Jesus’ yoke become ours, we will be overcome by it all.

Daily prayer, with reading of the Bible, isn’t an option we can pick or chose when we want to, or feel like it. It has to be so normal in our normal lives that when we miss the time with Him, we know that we have missed it. May it be that our day will not be the same without time with Him.

I encourage you to make prayer and the reading of His Word a priority in your life. If it means going to bed a little earlier, so you can have that quiet time in the morning before the rush is on, then do it. Or if you are better at night, after things quiet down, then spend this time with the Lord then. Let Him know that He is a priority in your life. And as for you, you will be more aware of how you are a priority in His.

He wants to tilt your head up to Him, to look into His eyes, and know that He is in control.

Soft & Tender - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Soft & Tender

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its inhabitants, and because you humbled yourself before Me, tore your clothes and wept before Me, I truly have heard you," declares the Lord.”
(2 Chronicles 34:27-28 NASU)

When I heard the Lord speak the word “soft” while I slept, I knew it was from Him. But then that was it. Just the word “soft”. What did that mean, and what would He have me write about it?

When I got out of bed about two hours later, I remembered the word I had heard. As I normally do in times when I am given a word, I asked the Lord to further explain what it meant. So I prayed in tongues, read some Scripture, and did a concordance search for the word “soft”. Surprisingly, when I went to my Bible software program on my computer, I realized the name of it was PC Study Bible V5, by BibleSoft. I have used this program for over six years, and had never really thought about the developer’s name. But I was getting somewhere.

The Lord Jesus (Yeshua) likes to do that. He gives you something, whether it is just a word, a picture in your mind, or what you might think of as just another “random thought”, which can typically be from the Holy Spirit, to see what you will do with it. He is wanting you to seek Him further, to dig deeper into your relationship with Him. As we pursue the Lord and His kingdom, He will show Himself more to us, and what are the plans and purposes in His heart, for you and the nations.

“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” (Proverbs 25:2, NASU)

So what did I find in my “gold digging” treasure hunt?

After doing a search on just the word “soft” in the Bible program, the verses that came up with that word in them didn’t really speak anything that I would think He was wanting to say. So I asked the Holy Spirit to further bring clarity, and the word “tender” came to mind. So I did a search on that word.

And this was one Scripture that did stand out above the others.

"But to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the Lord, thus you will say to him, 'Thus says the Lord God of Israel regarding the words which you have heard, "Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its inhabitants, and because you humbled yourself before Me, tore your clothes and wept before Me, I truly have heard you," declares the Lord.” (2 Chronicles 34:26-28 NASU)

In these dark times we are living in, when evil seems to be encroaching in every sacred area we have held dear, our own hearts can become hardened to people. Rather than praying for mercy and grace in their lives for repentance, I know personally sometimes for me my request to the Lord is to just send judgment and get it all over with. Enough already with the filth and wickedness.

But to know the Father’s heart in these times, I am the one who needs to humble myself before the Lord and continue to cry out for mercy for them and our nation. His heart is not for me to call down fire and brimstone, but to intercede on their behalf. That isn’t always easy to do. But it is the right thing to do, while leaving the judgment times in the Lord’s hands.

Because the Lord is a holy God, the days are coming when He will judge the nations for their wickedness and ungodly acts. That is truly written in His word. But until that day comes, my attitude and heart is to keep praying for my co-workers and neighbors who’d rather seek pleasure and wealth than the living God of Israel, to order to walk in His ways.

“Keep my heart soft and tender for Your ways O Lord” must be among my prayers. “Let me not give up in seeking Your face for the nations, until the time comes when You act according to Your Word.”

Together we can have the heart of the loving Father, and see more of the unsaved come into the salvation found only in His Son Jesus. His Kingdom will come when we do according to His will.

Hollywood Finally Tells a Great Bible Story - TODD STARNES CHARISMA NEWS

Joseph Fiennes in "Risen."

Hollywood Finally Tells a Great Bible Story

Photo above: Joseph Fiennes in "Risen." (Courtesy/Sony/Affirm Films)

Let's be honest. Hollywood does not exactly have the best track record when it comes to producing accurate faith-based movies. Remember the giant rock creatures from Noah?
So when I heard that Sony Pictures was about to release a faith-based film called Risen, I was a bit skeptical. Typically faith-based movies are faith-bashing movies.
And when Risen earned three-and-a-half stars from the left wingers at the Seattle Times, I was incredulous.
But when I saw the film's trailer, I was astonished—Hollywood got it right.
Risen is a powerful telling of the aftermath of the resurrection of Jesus told from the perspective of a non-believer—a Roman military officer.
Joseph Fiennes plays Clavius, assigned to investigate the disappearance of Jesus' body. It's like an old-school detective noir story—think C.S.I. Jerusalem.
"It's a movie that sees the resurrection through the eyes of a nonbeliever," Fiennes told me. "It's a wonderful, fresh way in seeing the story of Christ unfold through the eyes of a skeptic."
Fiennes is well-aware of Hollywood's past attempts to bring Bible stories to the big screen. Anybody choke on their popcorn during Noah and EXODUS: God and Kings?
The ever-diplomatic Fiennes did not name names, but he did refer to "revisionist films" that "polarized a lot of people." On the other hand, there are the cinephiles who took issue with "preachy and conservative and low-production value Christian films" that did not speak to them.
That's why Affirm Films and Sony Pictures went the extra mile to make sure they got Risen right.
"We strived very hard in getting the balance between cinema and Scripture," Fiennes said. "Working with the church communities in the process of making the film has allowed us to stay as true as possible to Scripture."
At the same time, they were also tasked with producing a solid work of art.
"It's a film, and we want people to have a great cinematic experience," Fiennes told me.
In other words—it's a night at the movies—not a Sunday morning church service.
"We are not selling religion or pushing religion," he said. "We are pushing for great cinema and great storytelling and I believe we got the balance right."
And so do many evangelical Christian leaders—most notably revered media critic Ted Baehr, chairman of the Christian Film and Television Commission.
"It is a very powerful dramatic movie," Baehr said in a video posted on his website. "It's a powerful heart-rending story. I recommend it for every Christian to take their friends to see Risen."
The film was also endorsed by a group of prominent Christian leaders and ministers.
"It's a movie that makes you think," said Chris Williamson, pastor of Strong Tower Bible Church. "It's not your typical Christian-themed movie—even though it's dominated with Christian themes. If you are an atheist, a new believer, an unbeliever—I think you can find yourself in this film."
Renowned Christian leader Rick White attended a screening of the film in Tennessee. He said the film demonstrates that "it's OK to ask the hard questions" on your spiritual journey.
Mr. Fiennes and Affirm Films and Sony Pictures have demonstrated a deep respect for the Christian faith. And in doing, so they have produced a film that will encourage and challenge and entertain a very diverse audience.
So as a fellow believer, I'd like to share these words with Sony Pictures—thank you.
He is risen. He is risen indeed!

Today's Israel Inspiration

Throughout Scripture we meet biblical figures who prayed to the Almighty for all of their needs. Jewish tradition explains that prayer, however, is not meant to "change the mind" of the Almighty. What changes through prayer is us. By recognizing the Source of all of the blessings in our lives, we bring ourselves closer to God and elevate ourselves. This in turn brings down God's mercy upon us. Meir Panim is an Israeli nonprofit bringing blessings to Israeli homes facing poverty with numerous food and social service programs. Enjoy their gift to you of a home blessing with a beautiful, traditional prayer. May this “Blessing for the Home” enhance the blessings in your life for health, prosperity, kindness, and all good.

Let the Dead Bury the Dead - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Let the Dead Bury the Dead

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Yeshua said, “Let the dead bury their own dead; you, go and proclaim the Kingdom of God!”
(Luke 9:60-61 Complete Jewish Bible)

For years I had thought this was a rather harsh response Jesus (Yeshua) gave to the one who said he wanted to follow Him and be His disciple. Jesus didn’t say, “Great! Just come along, do what you want when you want, and I will be sure to accommodate how you live so it won’t cramp your style.” It even seems in some circles that our response nowadays would be, “Wow! Someone who wants to be a Christian! Let’s not make it too hard on them so they won’t start the walk and then later quit. We need all the ones we can get.”

No, Jesus gave the man the one choice he had. Follow Him by letting go of his current life, and live the one I (Jesus) would direct him in. My way is the only way.

Jesus clearly told the one the way it would be, as Luke recounted for us in this historical report.
“As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, "I will follow You wherever You go." And Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have  nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."  And He said to another, " Follow Me." But he said, "Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father." But He said to him, "Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God."

Another also said, "I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home." But Jesus said to him, "No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." (Luke 9:57-62 NASU)

I like how The Message words it in a similar, but unique way.

“On the road someone asked if he could go along. "I'll go with you, wherever," he said. Jesus was curt: "Are you ready to rough it? We're not staying in the best inns, you know." Jesus said to another, "Follow me." He said, "Certainly, but first excuse me for a couple of days, please. I have to make arrangements for my father's funeral." Jesus refused. "First things first. Your business is life, not death. And life is urgent: Announce God's kingdom!"

Then another said, "I'm ready to follow you, Master, but first excuse me while I get things straightened out at home." Jesus said, "No procrastination. No backward looks. You can't put God's kingdom off till tomorrow. Seize the day." (Luke 9:57-62 THE MESSAGE)

(Just one minor side thought to point out before moving on. Jesus said, “We're not staying in the best inns, you know." I wonder how many leaders in the church today would still follow Jesus if they lived as He did? Or walked as He walked? I am sure the numbers would be reduced if such were the case. Maybe they missed it somewhere? And what example are they giving to those who follow them? It doesn’t appear to be Yeshua’s.)

So my thoughts on this now, to let the dead bury the dead?

I think it is time that we quit sugar-coating the Gospel message, trying to make it fit in today’s world, so as not to put too much inconvenience on those needing to hear the Gospel, and repent from living the sinful life. Jesus didn’t make it a convenient choice to become His disciple. He spoke right up front to let them know, “This will change your life. What you did yesterday you will no longer do today. The life you led then, it needs to be gone. Repent, take up your cross and follow Me.”

Maybe it is time we quit making our Sunday morning a nice place to bring people to, hoping they will receive a “helpful message so you can get saved today”, but rather use it as the time to really train Christians to get out into the world to take the Gospel to the dying. For as you may have already realized, they aren’t coming to us. We have to go to them. And when we do, we need to tell it the way it is to be.

Let the truth be known. You want to follow Jesus? It will cost you everything you have. You can’t have it both ways – to continue living the way you have been six days a week and then “be the Christian” one hour on Sunday. Jesus is requiring a complete lifestyle change. He calls it “repentance”. We should too.

Rather then offering a Gospel that allows one to keep doing that which was leading to death anyway, it is time we offered the “radical” Gospel that Jesus did. To all those He came in contact with, He said come, repent, and He would then give eternal life in exchange. There cannot be any other way. There has to be a life change through repentance.

“From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." (Matthew 4:17 NASU)

He also made it clear that if there was no repentance, there would be no salvation. They would perish in their sin.

“There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answered and said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.  Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem?  I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." (Luke 13:1-5 NKJV)

We are called as believers to demonstrate the Kingdom of God in the world around us, by living a life of repentance. We have been called to leave the old life behind, and walk in the new one that Jesus gives us as we do so. And then, the Gospel message is to tell others to do the same. Repent, believe, and follow Jesus. And in that following, they won’t be doing the same thing they were doing, with just a slight change. They will be letting go of the old in order to receive the new.

They too will be leaving the dead to bury their own dead. They too will no longer be participating with the things in life that are here today and gone tomorrow. They too will be living the way of the cross, which will eternally bring life.

Just like you and I should be doing ourselves.

Now think on this,
