Miracles From Heaven: The Christian Film That Does Everything Right - DEWAYNE HAMBY CHARISMA NEWS

Kylie Rogers as Annabel Beam and Jennifer Garner as Christy Beam in 'Miracles From Heaven.'

Miracles From Heaven: The Christian Film That Does Everything Right

In the Bible, Christians are instructed to testify about the great things God has done, because they give Him glory while providing hope to those encountering similar circumstances. With that in mind, the newest faith-based film releasing during this Easter season shines bright at a time when so many in the world need that hope the most.
Miracles From Heaven is the latest release from producers T.D. Jakes and DeVon Franklin (Heaven Is For Real), along with Joe Roth, telling the story of Christy Beam, the mother of pre-teen Anna who suffers from a seemingly-incurable stomach disorder. The true account, chronicled in a previously-released book, is skillfully brought to the big screen by director Patricia Riggen (The 33).
Jennifer Garner (Alias, 13 Going On 30, Daredevil, Elektra) gives a career-defining performance as Beam, a woman at the end of her rope both spiritually and emotionally. She explores every medical option to alleviate her daughter's pain, even traveling to Boston and tenaciously securing an appointment with a top children's doctor, Dr. Nurko, played by Eugenio Derbez.
Along the way, Beam and Anna (Kylie Rogers) are befriended by Angela (Queen Latifah), who shows them around the city and provides some comic relief from the emotionally-charged film.
Miracles provides an insider's view of a mother pulled between her longstanding dedication to God and the illness ravaging her daughter's body. Beam prays for faith, even in the middle of intense doubt and despair. Things do not immediately get better, but even seem to get much worse, leaving her feeling even further removed from God, her church community and even her husband (played by Martin Henderson). Many viewers will feel and sympathize with Beam's situation, having faced their own spiritual valleys.
It's not a spoiler to report that God does indeed have a plan and it's fully revealed before the end credits roll. Beam's journey is astounding, even more when considering the true story it is based on. The takeaway is simple and inspiring—God is always at work, whether or not His actions are easily recognized.
Miracles From Heaven is being hailed by critics across the board as a Christian film that does everything right. As it attracts a national audience this week, the hope of Jesus Christ has an opportunity to penetrate millions of hearts outside the walls of church buildings.
Miracles From Heaven, written by Randy Brown and also starring John Carrol Lynch, releases Wednesday, March 16, from Affirm Films, Roth Films and Franklin Entertainment distributed by Columbia Pictures.

Why Are Christians Throwing Stones at Bishop Juanita Bynum? - JENNIFER LECLAIRE CHARISMA NEWS

Why Are Christians Throwing Stones at Bishop Juanita Bynum?

Watchman on the Wall, by Jennifer LeClaire
Jennifer LeClaire is now sharing her reflections and revelations through Walking in the Spirit. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

Juanita Bynum has been through hell and back—and now Global United Fellowship (GUF) is promoting the controversial prophetess to full-blown bishop status.
It's no great surprise that her spiritual elevation is stirring a Christian hornet's nest, but are believers being mean-spirited or just discerning?
In case you're not familiar with GUF, it's a Christian fellowship that embraces churches, ministries, fellowships and pastors who acknowledge, accept and submit to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. GUF believes there is more that unites Christians than divides them.
Ironically, Bynum's appointment is already driving division. Although the group's mission statement is to "foster biblical unity among believers as one body in Christ," some onlookers are gravely concerned about the appointment, given her history and what Paul wrote in 1 Tim. 3:2-5:
"An overseer then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, sober, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach; not given to drunkenness, not violent, not greedy for money, but patient, not argumentative, not covetous; and one who manages his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence. For if a man does not know how to manage his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?"

"Is there any doubt we are in the last days? The great falling away is happening before our eyes," one commenter wrote on a Christian news site. "Homosexuality has infiltrated the church. Between 50 to 90% of Christians (sic) men are watching porn. The wheat is being separated from the chaff."
Many of the comments were too harsh, accusatory or unhelpful to republish. Suffice it to say that a peppered history that includes homosexual encounters with women, speaking at an ordination service for a gay minister, alleged breaches of contract and divorce has some second-guessing Bynum's appointment as bishop.
Bynum divorced her second husband, Bishop Thomas Weeks, in 2008, about a month before their sixth wedding anniversary. It seems, though, she had good reason. Weeks earlier that year pled guilty to aggravated assault for pushing and kicking Bynum in the parking lot of an Atlanta hotel.
Bynum has taken plenty of flak over the years. She's also been the subject of rap songs calling out prosperity preachers, along with Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, T.D. Jakes, Benny Hinn, Paula White, Fred Price, Kenneth Copeland, Robert Tilton, and Eddie Long.
"Jesus is not a means to an end," Shai Linne raps in his song "Fal$e Teacher$". "The gospel is He came to redeem us from sin, and that is the message forever I'll yell. If you're living your best life now, you're heading for hell."
In 2013, Bynum—who was once a regular on TBN and has had gospel music hits and best-selling books—was arrested. I wrote about that in my column, Why Do So Many Televangelists Land Themselves in Jail?.
The case involved a judgment that ordered her to shell out $140,000 to ALW Entertainment. Apparently, she did not follow through on a commitment to perform in a play ALW was producing. She later said she was "wrongfully detained" and her accuser backed down.
Bynum has lived a stormy life, with ups and downs and downs and ups. Many will not let her live it down, but the GUF has embraced her.
How do we apply the truth in 1 Tim. 3:2-5 to situations like this? Is the blood of Jesus sufficient for a peppered past and all the scandals that went along with it? How do you judge true repentance? Is there a double standard for recovering from scandals for women in ministry? Should Christians really be throwing stones at Bynum?

Producer Mark Burnett predicts that "a billion" people will see his new film "Son of God," which opens in theaters today.
Burnett, who co-produced the film with his wife Roma Downey, told The Wrap in a recent interview that he is confident in the film's long-term success. "This movie is going to be seen by a billion people over the next three or four years, so a big opening would be great, but this is very much a long-term proposition."
Burnett and his wife have visited numerous churches across the U.S. in an effort to sell out movie theaters for screenings ahead of the film's official release on Friday. Their efforts seem to have worked, as influential evangelical leaders including Mark Driscoll, T.D. Jakes and Rick Warren have bought out entire theaters to prescreen the film.
"There's been nothing conventional about this," Burnett, who has produced such successful reality television shows as "Survivor" and "Shark Tank," told TheWrap. "It's more like networking with all these church leaders, who have become our friends, since we've been consulting and working with them on this project for years."
Mark Driscoll's Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Wash., recently gave out 3,500 tickets for the film's pre-screening on Thursday. As the church stated on its website, the purpose of giving away so many free tickets was to encourage nonbelievers to watch the film.
"This isn't just a pass to a free movie; this is an opportunity to bring a friend, a few friends, who would never otherwise hear the story of Jesus. What we don't want are theaters packed with people who attend Mars Hill. We want theaters packed full of people from Mars Hill with their un-churched friends," the church said on its website.

In addition to Driscoll, other major evangelical leaders like Rick Warren have purchased tickets for the movie; Warren reportedly bought out at least eight theaters near his Saddleback Church in Orange County, Calif., for screenings. T.D. Jakes, Miles McPherson, and Joel Osteen, to name a few, have also purchased tickets ahead of the film's release.
"We're very excited that the community is mobilizing to support Son of God," Burnett and Downey said in a released statement. "The grassroots support is so important and the faith community is amazing when it mobilizes. Our hope is that the story and message of Jesus Christ will reach tens of millions of people nationwide."
The "Son of God" film plays off of footage from the highly successful History Channel miniseries "The Bible." The film follows the life of Jesus from birth to his resurrection.

You Are a Prize to be WonYou Are a Prize to be Won!

Wendy Griffith had often preached to other women about being a prize to be won, but did not practice it. She did not realize her true value in Christ, and became the "beggar" in a year-long romance, begging for a few scraps of love. When her romance ended, she was devastated. Through her tears, God showed her that she had settled for emotional "crumbs." She learned that God had so much more for her, (Eph. 3:20) and that she was a pearl of great price!

Now she shares her past heartache and experiences, defining what real love is and showing you how to: Guard your heart; Avoid the counterfeit; Not look back and enjoy being sensationally single until the right one comes along. You'll learn why God's love for you is extravagant and you shouldn't settle for emotional crumbs. You are a prize to be won!

Pat Robertson and Wendy GriffithIn You Are a Prize to Be Won! CBN news anchor Wendy Griffith shares her personal story of falling in love, and then watching her happily-ever-after dreams disappear. In the aftermath of heartbreak, Wendy discovered the truth about who she is in God's eyes...and she invites you to make the same discovery about yourself--not just in your head--but deep down in your heart. (Photo: Pat Robertson with Wendy Griffith)

In her warm, storytelling style, Wendy shares the heartbreaking experiences that have helped her define real love. You will learn—as she did—to:

• Guard your heart
• Avoid counterfeits
• ...and enjoy being sensationally single until the right one comes along.

God's love for you is extravagant and you shouldn't settle for emotional crumbs. You Are a Prize to Be Won! is for every woman who has ever doubted her incalculable value.

In her new book You Are a Prize to Be Won!, Wendy Griffith shares:

Ladies, the Lord wants you to know that you are a pearl of great price, a treasure worth pursuing and protecting. You are worth fighting for and, like the pearl in the parable in Matthew 13:45-46, worth everything it might cost a guy to obtain you.

You are worth someone sacrificing his time, his routine, his comfort, his money, his whatever in order to have you. You are worth it!

You are a prize to be won. Don't settle for crumbs!
