Love Sports and Israel? ✡ "My Heart Shall Rejoice" - ISRAEL365

But as for me, in Thy mercy do I trust; my heart shall rejoice in Thy salvation. I will sing unto the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me.

Today's Israel Inspiration

King David serves as a model of unwavering belief in the Lord and His salvation, because no matter what he goes through he never gives up hope. In the '70s, the young State of Israel was struggling in the wake of several tragedies, attacks and all-out war from its surrounding enemies. It took a historic sports victory to bring "rejoicing" to the beleaguered nation. An awe-inspiring new documentary "On the Map" recounts the story of the underdog ’76-’77 Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team who toppled the four-time defending Soviet Union team (!), and put Israel firmly "on the map." Israel then defeated Italy in the finals, and won the European Cup! For the first time, an award-winning Israeli filmmaker is sharing this positive, action-packed story of Israel winning against all odds.

You Are The One - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

You Are The One
- Now Think On This
by Steve Martin

“I keep running hard toward the finish line to get the prize that is mine, because God has called me through Christ Jesus to life up there in heaven.” (Philippians 3:14 ERV)

Hanging in our former car garage, which is still attached to our house, though not used for the original purpose intended, is what some would call a “man cave”. (No, there is not a husky man with furry fur on his body and meatless bones sticking out of his mouth living there.) And within this cozy dwelling hangs an NFL football jersey. This specific piece of clothing sticks out among the other shirts I have hanging from one of the also former garage door rails. (It is still a rail, but now serves with a different purpose, as noted.)

This specific blue, orange and white team shirt, with the number 15 sewn onto it, also bears the name of Tim Tebow. Because I admired the courage and skill Tim had while playing for the Denver Broncos (and for another undisclosed reason), I purchased it in April of 2014 on eBay. It was a bit cheaper at that time, being he no longer played with the Broncos.

Going back to his Heisman Trophy winning days while a Florida Gator, Tim Tebow exemplified someone I wanted to imitate, in the realm of using what you have been given by your Creator to do. Even though some would say his playing style didn’t fit the traditional drop-back quarterback mold, he was faithful to use the talent, discipline and heart that God had given him. He was the one his teams needed to win the games and a championship.

There is not another Tim Tebow. Our good Lord only created one of him. Our Father put within Tim his unique spirit, soul and body. With that came desire, commitment and connection to the Lord, giving Tim the ability to accomplish his purpose at that moment in his football life. He achieved the goal because of the grace given to him, and his acceptance of that fact, to faithfully use that grace. Thus the college team, and later the big boys’ team, achieved spectacular heights. In that world of sports, as a team they together made it to the top of their game.

Now the percentage of us who have played sports, and then who later filled a role at the professional level, is very, very small. My guess would say that probably 99.99% of you reading this have never qualified for the starting position of a sports team. But being that is beside the point, you and I have been called to a higher calling, to fill a position that no one else but you can fill.

We are each unique. We have each been created in such a way that if we don’t do what we have been called to do, not only will we ourselves be hurting in our spirit, soul and body, but our families, friends, co-workers, and even the people of the world will be missing out.
No one else can be the person you and I have each been called to be. You have to be you. You are the one the good Lord has created to fill a specific plan and purpose in His eternal plan and purpose. Yes, you are the one.

The Lord isn’t expecting you to be another Tim Tebow. There already is one. He isn’t expecting you to be another “high profile” person who gets a lot of news coverage, unless He has intended  that you were created for that purpose. But He is expecting you to use the gifts, talents and every created cell in your being, beginning with the day you were conceived in your mother’s womb, to be what you are to be.

The nations are desperately in need of people who know who they are and are simply, but obediently, walking in His plan, which has been carefully crafted for His creation. These are ones like you and I, who are willing to give themselves in obedience to His calling.

As Christians, seeking and  keeping our eyes on Jesus (Yeshua), who have been chosen along with our friends the Messianic Jews, we will rise up in Messiah’s power and strength, fulfilling our purpose as the Lord’s Body of believers. We will, as One New Man doing our part together as a team,  manifest His glory on the earth. We will be the light to the nations.

And each of you are the one to help do it.

Now think on this,

Steve Martin

This Heisman Trophy Winner Is All in for Jesus Christ - Marcus Mariota

This Heisman Trophy Winner Is All in for Jesus Christ - Marcus Mariota

Before his Heisman Award-winning season, The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) had a chance to sit down with Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota, the Oregon Ducks quarterback who has been a Heisman favorite all season long.
Mariota, who was introduced to FCA while in high school and became more involved in college, said that he strives to go "all in" for Christ and his team.
"All of us at FCA couldn't be happier for Marcus Mariota," said Les Steckel, President and CEO for FCA, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. "Marcus is a force on the football field and a force for Jesus Christ. His passion for the game matches his passion for his convictions, and it is wonderful to see him live out his faith both on and off the field. He is certainly an inspiration for many young athletes."
It's been a memorable month for Mariota. Earlier this month, he graduated from the University of Oregon with a general science degree, and on Dec. 13, he won the Heisman. Mariota is the first Oregon Duck and Hawaii-born athlete to win the Heisman, and he captured more than 88 percent of the first-place votes, receiving the second-highest percentage of possible points (90.92) in Heisman history, according to ESPN.
Mariota and his teammates are gearing up to make their Rose Bowl appearance on New Year's Day against the Florida State Seminoles in Pasadena, California, at 5 p.m. on ESPN. But Mariota says it's not the numbers or the big games that dictate his play on the field, but his Savior—Jesus Christ.
"Being a football player, faith plays a huge role," Mariota told FCA Magazine. "When things start to get rough, you find comfort in your faith. Knowing that no matter what, you can dust yourself off and be OK. And you know you do it for [God's] glory. You do it for your teammates, your family, but also for His glory and to represent His name.
"Going 'all in' for God is glorifying Him with the abilities He's given us and shining our light for Him," he said. "I think as an athlete when you're able to go out there and have the abilities that the Lord has blessed you with, you want to glorify Him. You want to go out there to represent Him in the right light. To represent your family in the right light and to do that through His power."
And he added that his belief and trust in God helped him persevere through the tough times.
"Going through the challenges of the season, my faith has been the steadying force that's pushed me, along with my family, my friends and my teammates," Mariota said. "Losing—especially here [at Oregon]—is tough. We have high expectations as a program to go and win national championships. It's a huge pressure, but you learn a lot about yourself through it. Coach [Scott] Frost has helped me learn that football doesn't define me. It's just what I do. That was a huge life lesson for me. I really took that and ran with it. My faith is what keeps me going and I can always grow in that.
"I've learned that no matter what, my faith will guide me," Mariota continued. "However I play on the field, I know my faith will guide me. After sports, my faith will guide me. As I've grown in my faith, that's something that's given me comfort. God has taught me that I can trust in Him. No matter what—whether things are good or bad—I know I can always trust in Him. And that has really allowed me to go 'all in' for Him."

A Sick Development Coming Out of Europe, ‘disgusting’ Nazi-like salute

 ‘disgusting’ Nazi-like salute

The French sports minister accused top French soccer
player Nicolas Anelka of anti-Semitism and “disgusting”
behavior on Saturday night, hours after Anelka made
what is regarded as a neo-Nazi-style, anti-Semitic
salute to celebrate scoring a goal in the English Premier
League.

The “quenelle” signal is rapidly spreading
among anti-Semites in Europe and is being used by
individuals to fly under the radar of strict anti-hate
speech laws in parts of the continent.

The signal, extending one’s right hand toward the ground while
the left hand grasps the shoulder, was devised by Dieudonné
M’bala M’bala, a controversial French comedian who has been
condemned in court several times for anti-Semitic remarks.
“Anelka’s gesture is a shocking, disgusting provocation.
There’s no place for anti-Semitism and incitement to hatred
on the soccer field,” said the French sports minister, Valerie
Fourneyron, in a tweet.

Over the past two months, the “quenelle” trend has gained
popularity, prompting hundreds of Europeans to post pictures
of themselves online performing the heil-like salute. Many of
the images were taken at sensitive sites such as in the
Auschwitz concentration camp, the Anne Frank House and
even the Western Wall.

Dr. Moshe Kantor, president of the European Jewish Congress,
said it was “sickening that such a well-known footballer would
make such an abusive and hateful gesture in front of tens of
thousands of spectators.”

“This salute is merely a lesser-known Nazi salute and we
expect the same kind of punishment to be handed down by
the authorities as if Anelka had made the infamous outstretched
arm salute.

“This salute was created by a well-known extreme
anti-Semite who has displayed his hatred of Jews, mocked
the Holocaust and Jewish suffering.” Use of the “quenelle” is
“gaining more and more momentum, is very pervasive on the
internet and social networks, and is increasingly becoming a
symbol of the Nazi regime, and does not look like a passing
phenomenon,” Yaakov Hagouel, the Head of the World Zionist
Organization’s Department for Combating Antisemitism, told
Hebrew website Ynet earlier this month.
