Another School Shooting: America Reaps What It Has Sown - CHARISMANEWS

Another School Shooting: America Reaps What It Has Sown

R. Loren Sandford
R. Loren Sandford
I cannot remain silent. Call me legalistic for calling out sin. Call me harsh for pointing out the destruction that comes from it. But I’m not proclaiming God’s active judgment or pronouncing any kind of condemnation. I’m talking about the inevitable reaping of what we have sown as a culture, and I grieve for the resulting tragedies I see unfolding in so many lives every day.

Once more we have seen a school shooting, and once more it has happened in the Denver metro, my city, this time at Arapahoe High School, not far from Columbine High School, where another and more devastating shooting happened in 1999. It wasn’t long ago that a shooter opened up in a theater in my city and destroyed dozens of lives. My heart is broken. My chest aches, and my eyes are wet with tears for the trauma these students have experienced, for the injured ones and for the shooter himself, so emotionally disturbed and in so much pain that he not only had to harm others but took his own life. This is destiny and promise stolen and destroyed by the enemy of our soul.

Why? These things never happened a generation ago, when, whether or not we really lived it, our nation at least acknowledged God and our families for the most part remained whole. I want to scream, “America! Wake up!” I have unhappily prophesied in writing that we are witnessing the catastrophic collapse of a once-great culture and our children are paying the price. I warned in my annual prophetic word just a few weeks ago of the rising tide of hatred around us that will surface in many arenas of life. This shooting is a manifestation of that hatred which inevitably results when a nation forgets its rightful Lawgiver and turns from His principles that were given to ensure the well-being of all God’s creation.

This generation of young people is lost! Our self-centeredness as a culture has led to the breakup of our families and the abandonment of our children. We’ve failed to pass them stability. We’ve not imparted a faith in God and His absolute laws and principles, substituting instead a mushy postmodernism that eliminates the concept of a higher power who created us and who rules over us with love, wisdom and holy intent. When God’s morality is abandoned, love is lost and lives are destroyed.

Unless you listen—really listen—to the young, you cannot know how much destruction has been visited upon them or the depth to which it goes. We, as an older generation, must bear the responsibility for this. Guns are not the cause. We are the cause, and our sin is the root. Our broken covenants have left us naked and vulnerable to the ravages of the one who hates us.

New laws will accomplish nothing in the long run. The violence and destruction will simply leave the campus to find another location where young people gather. Put security guards at the doors of our schools and workplaces and the violence will simply move to the street and even the homes. Nothing short of a strong move of national repentance can turn this around, but in convincing us that we’re all victims and not sinners, that law and morality are relative to the feelings of the individual, our enemy has effectively eliminated repentance from the conceptual realm for those who have not been reached for Jesus, and even from the hearts of many who call themselves Christian.

Can we who really understand plumb now the depths of the cross and the blood and the selflessness of our Lord imparted into us? Can we recover the joy and beauty of repentance as an essential and ongoing element of the Christian life? Can we finally conform to the image of the Son (Rom. 8:29) and begin to shine as lights in a dark place, as we have been called and destined to do?

Lord, forgive us. We have fallen so far.

Ahava Love Letter (#62) - "Hidden"

                   “Hidden”

“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field.
A man found it, hid it again, then in great joy went and sold
everything he owned, and bought that field.”
Matt 13:44 Complete Jewish Bible

Dear family of friends,

As the verse above says, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden. Hidden from whom? Hidden for what purpose? What does it have to say about you?

The Lord had the apostle Matthew, or emissary as the CJB version would say, add these spoken words of Yeshua (Jesus) as a parable telling of the value of finding the Kingdom of Heaven, and then selling all to obtain it. So it must be possible to obtain the Kingdom of Heaven for ourselves. But it will cost dearly of ourselves to have it. It will cost everything we have.

How many of us are willing to sell all – our current life, our job situation, our hopes and dreams – to get all that the Lord has for us? There used to be a time when that seemed common. Sell all you had, join the Jesus People or the charismatic movement, and live in the commune. I know I did in the late 1970’s.

You don’t hear too much of this generation wanting to become missionaries and “go to Africa”, or young ones leaving home to give their heart and soul to what Jesus has called them to do. There are the summer short-term mission trips, the Saturday youth group team outing to help needy church members, but rarely anymore do I hear of young people, college age young adults in church wanting to serve the Lord lifetime on the mission field, or join YWAM (Youth With A Mission.)

Or maybe I just am not seeing it, and the Lord is preparing a group of young people, future leaders, who are now “hidden” from my view, and many others.

I have hope in my heart that there are right now being prepared these who are going to give their all to serve His purposes. It seems like every generation has some.

Maybe you are in your late teens or early twenties; maybe you are “thirtysomething”, and longing for the Lord to move in your life. You want Him to respond to that stirring He put in your heart when you were ten, or 15. I promise you, He will. I am living proof of it.

It may take 10 or 20 years to happen, but His promises are true. While you may seem hidden, unnoticed, cast aside and somewhat useless in your own eyes and others, I tend to think that is because you are the Kingdom of Heaven material that He has sought for. When the Lord goes out in His field, looking for buried treasure that He already knows is there, He will already have paid the price, as He did on the cross, and take you as His own. The hidden treasure in the field this time is you.

Don’t grow weary in your current situation, struggling without hope and vision. Know that His plan for you is good. Hang in there, and you will see Him open doors that no man can shut. You will step out and walk in your calling. The world needs you, and He will be the one to complete His purposes for you.

Be encouraged young one.

Young People to 'Engage' with Israel

Group Brings People to 'Engage' with Israel

JERUSALEM, Israel -- For decades, Christians from around the world have supported Israel and helped Jewish people return to the Land. But will the next generation continue the vision?

One group is trying to keep that vision alive.

(Editor's Note: Make that two! See our message below for our Love For His People "Ahava Adventures"!)

In the early 1990s, Ebenezer Operation Exodus began bringing immigrants from the Former Soviet Union back to Israel by ship.

Now, they're bringing young people on a unique trip called Engage Israel to give them a chance to experience Israel and God's plan for the Jewish people and the Land.

International Young Adults Program Coordinator of Ebenezer-Operation Exodus International Andy Ernst says 'Engage' is intended to help people 18 to 35 years old understand Israel, prophecy and aliyah -- Jewish immigration to the Land of Israel.

"My passion is to see young people getting trained and equipped here in Israel and being sent back to the nations and them asking God in their nation 'what can I do? How can I stand up for Israel? What will you give me as a task?'" Ernst told CBN News.

"We kind of pack their spiritual backpack with a solid understanding of Israel as of today, from the past and in the future and to go home with that understanding of the Bible is alive," Ernst said.

"Moni," 30, is from an Asian nation and did not want to be identified by his real name.

"I heard about Israel, I read about Israel," said Moni, adding that it's a different experience to actually be here.

"You know getting to see the people, getting to hear from the people their story and going to different places, seeing things, seeing things for myself," Moni explained.

The two-week trip to Israel is billed as an "adventure of a lifetime."  The participants hike the Golan Heights; slap mud on and float in the Dead Sea, ride camels in the desert and learn about the Holocaust.

Jonathan Sheard, 27, from the United Kingdom, said they're tired but there is so much to see and do.

"It's been a brilliant time of study as well as reflection as well as site-seeing as well as relaxation," Sheard said. "But it really has opened my eyes to a lot of things I didn't know and helped me to learn a lot more about myself and especially about the Lord."

Besides all the touring, the group takes on service projects like cleaning up a churchyard or the streets of one of the oldest cities in the world, Jericho, where they also meet with local Arab believers.

They also spend time with young Messianic Israelis and last summer helped out at a summer camp for Israeli children and played with Ethiopian children at an absorption center for new immigrants.

They spend time getting to know what it's like to be a soldier in today's Israel.

"Meeting the soldiers was impressive because they were really, really young," said Mikela Monachon, 17, from Switzerland. "We gave them presents and it was just [incredible]."

CBN News caught up with an Engage Israel tour at Ein Harod where the Bible says Gideon chose his army.

According to Melissa McCray, 21, from Arkansas in the U.S., prayer also plays a role in their time here.
"It's not really just here to have fun. We're here with a purpose," McCray said.

"One thing that we've been doing, which I've never done before is we have a prayer chain every night. And so we take turns praying throughout the night for Israel."

Last summer about 100 people from 20 nations participated in the two-week Engage Israel tour.

"The idea is not as many as possible but from as many different nations as possible so the Word would go back to those nations and young people would take it to other young people and multiply the understanding of Israel, of Bible prophecy, of our call as Christians to stand with Israel and to help them home," Ernst said.
Katie Stucken, 31, is the Engage Representative for South East Asia Oceania.

"I love this Land, love this country and understanding of what the Lord is doing here in Israel and amongst His people is very much on my heart and I really want to see in my generation raised up to understand that also," Stucken said.

"One of the fundamental parts of that is coming to the Land and putting your feet on the ground and that changes something in your heart and it shifts something in your walk with Jesus and I believe that's really important," she added.

One focus of the trip is on facilitating aliyah.

Edgar Deleon, 26, from Monterey, Mexico, says the most important part of the trip for him was the teachings and seeing how Bible prophecies like aliyah are being fulfilled.

"And how blessed we are that we can get to see that with our eyes…
how the people of Israel [are] coming back to the land that the Lord has promised," Deleon said.

And what will they tell others when they go home?

"I will tell others how great it was just because it's amazing," said Monachon.

"To stand up for Israel," said Deleon.

"Come themselves. Experience God in the Holy Land," said McCray.

Editor's Note: Love For His People, Inc. also desires to take young people to Israel, to spend time with our Israeli friends and meet new ones.

Our trip this year takes place from Nov. 2, 2013 - Nov. 11, 2013, leaving from Charlotte, NC.
